We stayed at the Menger during our grandson's graduation from Air Force Basic Training. Our check in was smooth, the staff welcoming. Valet parking was almost seamless. Our room was very spacious, but the view was not good-- rooftops of nearby buildings. We had to request bars of soap as we found none in the bathroom. We also had to request a light bulb as one of the lamps didn't have one. We were told at check in there was no maid service, but if we needed anything to call the from desk. On our second morning, we asked to have some of our used towels replaced, but when we returned to the room that evening it hadn't been done. They did send someone up with towels once I called again. In the hallway near the elevator, a couple of used drink glasses sat on a sideboard for three days-- no one came to clean them up. The location is next door to the Alamo and a 1 minute walk from the River Walk-- couldn't ask for better! All this being said-- I would stay there again-- reasonable rates, easy parking, excellent location and friendly staff.

You have to do Valet you don’t have a choice $54.00 plus tip, a day. Bad coffee maker no creamer. Not happy with accommodations at all.

The Perfect spot downtown I believe.
Beautiful hotel, rooms are a little dated but that’s what makes the experience very cool. Since it is one of the oldest hotels in Texas. Our kids loved the pool as well.
The bar was awesome.
No ghost sightings but we will be back! Lol

Hotel is beautiful. I was there to witness the arrival of the Immortal 32. Had a wonderful time, staff was good. Vallet was GREAT!!
Only issue I had was the shower dripped ALL Night and it was the hot water that wouldn't stop dripping so it created a lot of steam in the room, even with the bathroom door closed. NO I did not report it, it was late when I got in and all I wanted to do was sleep.

The Menger Hotel is a good overnight stay for us on our journey to Arizona. It’s nice to walk over to the Riverwalk with its ambience. The beds were extremely comfortable. Oh, and Joel who valet parked our car was absolutely delightful! His welcome and pleasant personality was a wonderful welcome to the hotel.

Room was small! Couldn’t tell from photos-it’s an old hotel that’s been redone-but had some weird things were difficult! No outlets close to bed and we needed a three prong adapter a no go for front desk! No USB ports at all! We we ordered room we weren’t told our room had a step up to the bathroom!! Very strange (old building) the building is very beautiful though and close to river walk.
Want to mention our Valet Joel very nice and helpful

Npne of the front desk people ever smiled to make us feel welcome. We were given a room that looked like servant quarters. The bathroom door did not lock, there were rust marks on the bottom of the bathroom door. We had a double bed and on the bed that I slept, the vent kept on blowing cold air. On night of 21st the temperatures in San Antonio were going to be in the 40s overnight. When we came in the room, the room temperature was 67 and we selected Heat on thermostat to 75degree. After an hour the temperature dropeed to 66 so we called the front desk and the so called manager said because the hotel was old they had central air conditioning on and we could not run Heat. He said he would send a room heater which did not come. We gave up and went to bed. In the morning we woke up to temperature of 61 and I called front desk. No apology or anything and he blamed maintenance staff who brought a coil heater which did not warm the room but if we stood next to it, gave some warmth. Several small issues were never taken care of.
I even asked if the interaction was different due to booking with expedia as people in front of us were treated differently.
I wish I had not booked this stay

The shower was leaking. I brought it to the tension of the front desk. Nothing was done about it. It was very difficult to enjoy the stay listening to the water constantly dripping day and night. I requested fresh towels. They did not bring them. The water would go from hot to cold in the shower, which was very annoying. You could not regulate the temperature.I was not impressed. I will never return and I'm disappointed in Expedia that they did not do their homework.

This is a nice older hotel and it's right in the middle of downtown San Antonio. My one warning would be beware of the parking fees. If you are driving a car, this hotel will cost you an extra $50/day for parking. It's Valet only, so you can also add that to your total.

The room was clean and equipped. The staff were slightly lacking on friendliness and service. There was a food service tray at the room next to ours that remained in the hallway over 48 hours. The was also large clumps of dirt ( or animal feces ) outside our floors elevator doors. The rodeo was in town.
The valet staff were great.
I was a little surprised to see a 2 1/2% credi card recovery fee on the bill

Nothing was said about the construction and street blockage. Very confusing and hard to park and that was very expensive. The walls are so thin we could here snoring in the room next to us. The staff was nice hard to understand but nice. The hotel was clean and the antiques in the lobby were very nice. Biggest problem was getting to the hotel.

The history of the hotel is great. But, means old, small bathrooms. The room was dated and the bed was just ok. No luxury there. The staff was not friendly or helpful. Long lines for valet and the front desk. The drinks in the historic bar were horrible. Cheap wine and terrible margaritas ( which is bad for being in Texas). No waitstaff in bar.

Our room was next to construction being done on the Alamo. Very noisy. Bathrooms need updating. The room air conditioner would not stop running. We could not control it. The hotel said they controlled the air. We were freezing. Had too just shut unit off. They were supposed to bring a portable heater but I had to call three times and wait a while for it to arrive. When checking out they said they would email my receipt. After two calls back to hotel asking for and emailed receipt I still have not received one. Disappointed!

We book two rooms. When we got to our room, we found leftover food in the fridge. We reported it to room service, they said they would send someone to throw it out. No one came. When we went for ice, green and black gunk came out. It was nauseating! When we returned to the room at night, our room smelled like they were cooking in our room. We reported all of these things and they gave no confidence in their services. It was not a comfortable stay.

Wonderful staff and the best of locations. The rooms were lovely and the Menger Bar was terrific. The only issue was the bathroom, which had no stable water temperature control and a bizarre pipe in the ceiling above the shower which dripped cold water into the bathtub. This made for a somewhat challenging showering experience.

The dining hall was only open for breakfast. During our stay the front desk gave key cards to our room to another couple while we were occupying it. Not a pleasant surprise when strangers enter your room without your knowledge or permission. No apologies for their error. Water in bath tub dripped constantly and couldn’t be stopped. $300.00+ a night you would expect better.

They canceled our reservation before we even got there. They didn’t even call us or let us know. We dressed up for Valentine’s Day, packed, and drove there and then they told us our reservation has been canceled. They said that my credit card had been declined so they canceled the reservation. The reservation specifically said. “Pay at property”. I booked it with my corporate card, and was going to pay with my personal card when I got there to check in. I got no alerts saying that transaction had been declined or any information to support it. They didn’t try to do anything, but just turned us away. It basically ruined all of Valentine’s Day.

The amenities weren’t that great, we forgot shampoo, conditioner, and wash……every other hotel we stay at has big bottles attached to the bathroom walls, they had expired tiny bottles we had to call down for 10 more. We stayed for four nights. Also they don’t have a snack corner in the lobby for late night munchies 😩

Though we did not experience the paranormal, it would have been great fun to have a cigar with the ghost of Teddy Roosevelt!

Hotel was cool but room was hot! 79 degrees. Asked the front desk and they said the air was ambient. I guess that means no heat and no AC. Needless to say, 79 degrees you need AC. We received a box fan to use. So other than that, it’s an old hotel with old accommodations on air.

I love staying at the Menger!! I was there for the Teddy Roosevelt Show, which I highly recommend! The staff, as always, was excellent! The ONLY reason I didn't give 5 stars was that the bathroom could've gotten a little more attention before I checked in. The sink was dirty and there were a few hairs in the tub. That being said, I will continue to stay at The Menger!

This is not the place to stay if you need to accomplish any work. The WiFi signal was barely there in the room, and even if you try to work from the lobby, the WiFi goes out multiple times. Also since it is an older building, they can only turn on either the AC or the heat. Since it was cold at night, they opted for heat which meant it was boiling during the day. On the other hand, the staff was fantastic and the building and rooms are absolutely gorgeous. The beds were comfy and the water strong and hot. With some updates, this could be a real gem.

The hotel was not updated. I was given three different rooms due to malfunction in the amenities. Decided to stay in the last one because I did not want to move again. No heat was primarily the problem because the system that they had was only a two-way system, either AC or heat. I will never recommend that hotel to anybody.

Running water in the bathtub shower area, where it could not be turned off and so cold that I had to have two portable heaters brought in so I could sleep at night.
