The location was great. We felt like royals staying in a castle. We were treated like royals as well. The dining experience was great. Breakfast was delicious as we ate at sunrise over the loch. The Christmas decorations were very special. Overall would recommend over and over

Rooms need updating. Standard rooms have small beds and things that need fixing. Radiator didn’t work, window wouldn’t open, bathroom vent broken. All reported to reception but not fixed. Grounds and location lovely. Food not brilliant.

Lovely old country hotel

Lovely friendly hotel with great staff and best described as having \"old world charm\". If you want a slick, shiny, city hotel this may not be for you. Its an old victorian country house and yes there are bits that are clearly old, but thats part of the attraction for me. Overall its a lovely, relaxing, place in a beautiful setting.

We stayed for one night, and overall it was a pleasant stay. Our room was clean & spacious, the staff was friendly, the public rooms were nice (drawing room, bar, etc), and the grounds surrounding the castle were gorgeous. Only complaint is that dinner was a disappointment with underwhelming food and very slow service/inattentive servers. Breakfast the following morning however was very enjoyable with attentive staff and delicious food! So it's possible we just caught an off night, but it did put a level of disappointment for an otherwise an enjoyable experience.

Rooms show some evidence of age (if you are picky about stuff like that), but it's an old Scottish Castle hotel... You want it to feel like an old Scottish Castle, don't you, and it absolutely does.

The scenery is the real highlight of this hotel. The grounds are absolutely stunning. Staff service was also excellent. The room was comfortable with decent amenities (e.g. bath and body products) but it was also lacking in some ways (e.g. no fridge, tissues or AC). The restaurant food was average. I slept well and would stay again.

Last visit was our sixth visit to stonefield castle, we love this place because the dogs are so welcome and all the staff over the years have been great, we decided to go with the principle rooms this time as treat for family, nice rooms, well over priced for what you get, but that is the hotels story over the years its needed huge investment, rather than do that they have taken away the snooker room so its a bedroom, everywhere you go you see it still needs a huge investment, i guess its shareholders want their profit rather than spend to save a great building and gardens. However we will be back, stick to cheapest rooms we can get and will enjoy the wonderful food, accept the WiFi crashes the TV loses signal and just enjoy the wonderful tired old hotel and gardens with stunning views. If you rate the hotel as a 3 star then you wont be disappointed

Having been brought up in the area I have driven past Stonefield on numerous occasions. This year on a trip from Canada I decided to give it a try. A beautiful location easily accessible from the main road. I was impressed with the staff courtesy and helpfulness, the comfortable bar lounge and sea views. I would definitely stay there again.

elegant and classic stay in an old manor.

we were only there for a short period of time roughly 13 hours, but we were able to enjoy the property. We had a lovely walk around the island. Very interesting architecture. my room was quiet and comfortable with a wonderful shower, with a lovely view of the water. While we did not have time to have dinner there, a number of people were and we didn’t hear any noise from the dining room or any of the other guest. So truly a lovely experience and I wish we’d had more time to enjoy more of it.

A two night stay with breakfast and we did dinner too. Unfortunately the weather was quite humid and the room was very stuffy. In the absence of air conditioning, we opened the windows with little relief. This made it very difficult to sleep. It is probably more comfortable in the cooler weather. The staff were excellent. The room, bed, bathroom etc was very comfortable. The breakfast was ok; the evening meals were a bit better, but in my opinion not great value for money. Give the langoustines a miss - not worth the bother or the money. The kitchen was situated below our room and the staff played loud music from early in the morning which acted as a very early alarm. Maybe an idea to turn it down. Also, the TV offerings were about the worst I’ve come across in a hotel. Free to air was a mystery to find - all we wanted was a news channel. Summary; an historic old building, perhaps relying too heavily on its character and ambience.

Staff and public areas were excellent and very comfortable. Unfortunately the grounds are in need of TLC which is a shame. The hire of a skip for a day to remove all the rubbish and fishing debris would help. The bedroom accommodation needs a lot of paintwork and updating. I've slept in more comfortable beds in Premier Inns! Housekeeping was a bit erratic. The quality of the food at breakfast was mediocre. However it's perfect for dogs and the staff were great.

Overall the hotel was nice. Big concern was the inability to sleep as it sounded as though there was a washing machine or tumble dryer cycle continuously vibrating under room 25 on a lower floor. This humming stopped for about five minutes and then the cycle started all over again. So no sleep at all throughout the night. Not impressed at all

My husband and I are traveling Scotland by bike. We picked this hotel, in part, because the description said that they had laundry facilities. They did not. When we showed them the description on Hotels.com they agreed that it did say they had laundry, but they offered no solution except us walking 45 minutes on a trail through the woods to visit a laundromat in a nearby town. I told them that this did not feel like any service recovery effort. I offered them a few solutions and they said they could not do any (driving us to the laundry, paying for a taxi, letting us use the machines on premises- which they had initially mentioned). It was a very frustrating and unsatisfying experience.

The hotel is located on the mainland at Tarbert. We thought it was on the Isle of Lewis where there is also a Tarbert, a ferry ride and 187 miles away. It would be helpful if this hotel mentioned that it is on the mainland not the Isle.

It was way too short! And based on last minute travel plans, it became even shorter. I wish we had more time to explore the grounds & to sit in the history of the building. The service was also amazing. The front desk staff were very helpful in getting us travel information, as well as offering us a sack lunch due to having to leave before breakfast. Everyone, from check in to the restaurant staff to the bartender were wonderful. We will be back!

I visited for two days with my partner and had a great stay. We had breakfast both days and was impressed by the choice. We also had an evening meal and was fortunate enough to get a window seat with great views over the loch. We enjoyed nearby Tarbert and even managed a day across at Arran. We throughly enjoyed our stay.

We chose this hotel due to its convenience to the Islay ferry and we had a late ferry arrival. I was excited for the stay as the photos were beautiful and it stated it was a 4star hotel. I’d say it is a 2.5 star in reality. Clean but very tired. I wouldn’t stay here on vacation again.

Just do it - you won't regret it!

We were looking for a castle stay in the area where our ancestors lived, and Stonefield delivers castle-quality hospitality.
The rooms are well appointed, clean and welcoming. The food is fantastic and we had no trouble accommodating our vegan and celiac.
The staff went way above and beyond to make our stay entertaining and comfortable.

The food was absolutely delicious. Being plant nerds we couldn’t get enough of the historical grounds. I cannot reccomend to stay here enough!!!
