Had a great stay this weekend. The facilities are great. The restaurant and bar staff are excellent and very helpful and efficient. The food was good. The night porter also assisted with pick up and drop off from the lodges to the restaurant on Friday as it was very wet so that was appreciated.
Only a couple of things that could be improved, the bed in the standard room is a small double so I felt like I was going to fall out. As a female who does a lot of solo travelling (though not on this occasion), the lack of lighting from the lodges to the restaurant/bar/spa is not great. Had I not been with my friend, I wouldn’t have gone up after dark.
Overall though, a lovely relaxing stay.

The whole stay was amazing. Staff were really friendly, the spa was incredibly relaxing, and the cabin accommodation was perfect and in a really scenic spot. The only fault was the outdoor pools were pretty cold, but the weather was chilly generally during our stay.

The staff made our trip!

We had a wonderful 3 night stay, the studio apartment, dog friendly was perfect for us.
Only couple of tiny maintenance issues.
The staff were all so friendly and helpful, they made our stay special.
Food was good for breakfast and dinner.
Our only disappointment was Tarbert was totally closed! Got the ferry over which was lovely, but not even a cafe open so came back in next ferry.

The Shepherd's hut wasclean and comfortable. The restaurant was fantastic. Over the whole weekend everything was delicious. The spa was great. The outdoor facility was great. The staff were friendly and really attentive and willing to engage in conversation.

The breakfast was good, however they would not deviate from the menu. I asked for an omelette, however I was told this was not possible as not on the menu - bit disappointed.
Spa was so relaxing, could have stayed longer than the 2 hours allotted. Infinite pool - perfect.
Dinner at night did not disappoint lots of choice and beautifully cooked.
The only down side was the room cleaning. The bed in the room would be made up however if there was a used mug it was not cleaned, it was just left. Again minor but disappointing.

We stayed in Lodge 5, the room carpet and bathroom floors were really dirty as was the kettle and some of the furniture. We mentioned to housekeeping staff member and was told someone would contact us. This never happened and by time we checked out we still had not had any contact.

Fantastic stay the shepherds hut, which was much larger than expected and beautifully appointed. The facilities in the hotel are excellent. The restaurant was great and the spa and outdoor pool was fantastic. The massage by the Spanish lady was one of the best I’ve had. We also took the ferry over to Tarbert one afternoon, which was 20 minutes away and just glorious. I’d go back in a heartbeat!

Lovely place but poor bedroom experience

Bedroom noise from corridor doors was horrendous. A mixture of people coming and going and the rattling of squeaky doors was really bad. Apart from this it was a nice place. Dinner and breakfast was good, and scenery was very nice.

We didnt get a single smile, and plenty of surliness. Owners clearly more interested in your money than your experience or the happiness of their staff. Felt like the most miserable holiday camp ever. Pool packed. Marina packed. Landscape exploited with all the money spent on plastic spa facilities and none on vegetation. A grey plastic hotel. If you live in a grey plastic house, with plastic grass and acres of block paved drive for your Evoque you'll likely love it.

The overall location and facilities were gorgeous and check in was extremely smooth. We used the spa facilities and had treatments however, felt that we were rushed towards the end of our treatment and the staff were mopping floors before we had even come out of our treatment. It made us feel that we had to get out and upon reflection, perhaps treatments shouldn’t have been made available at that time if staff were looking to get away. When we had dinner at the restaurant we weren’t advised of what wasn’t available to eat due to being sold out and while we were waiting to be seated, we weren’t offered a drink or a menu. We stayed in the lodge and there was zero soundproofing so could hear people coming in and out of the building and those in the room above. The mattress was also uncomfortable and there was only body wash available in the room which seemed strange for somewhere that promotes their spa - would have expected body lotion, shampoo/conditioner etc and for the body wash to be detailed of what it was.

Lodge room was very comfortable, clean. Bit of a walk to get to restaurant from it if you want to have a drink first or have mobility issues. But top marks to hotel reception they organised a pick up from room & back when finished by a very pleasant & helpful young man called Pete. Only issue was my steak at dinner, it wasn't good & don't think it was rump either as said on menu

Pleasant stay but not luxury.

Enjoyable stay at Portavadie. Lodge room was spacious and clean. It was chilly at times and there was no way to increase the room temperature. There was an out of service toilet adjacent to our room which was smelly and detracted from our experience. It was a fairly long walk (or drive) from the reception and the restaurant to our room and further still to the swimming pool and spa.
The restaurant was good for both dinner and breakfast and the staff were very pleasant.
I was not impressed by a member of staff at the reception desk at the spa/pool who ignored us for 2 minutes as they processed something on their PC. A ‘hello, I will be with you in a minute’ would have sufficed.
The heated outdoor infinity pool was lovely given the views it offers.
Overall a pleasant stay but not a luxury experience and not great value for money.

Sadly we were unable to enjoy the break as much as we would have liked. Absolutely nothing to do with the resort. Quite the opposite!
I unfortunately took unwell. Peter, the First Aider could not have been more attentive and dialled 999. He stayed with me until the Paramedics arrived. I was Blue lighted back down to Dunoon and kept in overnight.
Once I had seen the doctor again the following morning and released from hospital. Portavadie sent Josh, a duty manager the 1.5 hours down to pick up me and my wife and return us to the resort.
I don’t think I’ve ever experienced such care anywhere else in the past.

Fantastic stay in Portavadie for our anniversary. The lodge rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. Food in the Marina Restaurant was lovely and staff were warm and friendly. Spa facilities were an added bonus, we loved the outdoor infinity pool with stunning scenery.


There was a card and chocolates in our room wishing us a happy anniversary. We thought this was a lovely touch and we would recommend and stay again.

We loved our stay in Portavadie. The outdoor infinity pool is excellent. We sayed in the lodge. Our room was spacious but a little bit tired looking. The corridor carpet leading to our room looked as though it had seen better days as did the sofa in our room. None of this was bad enough to put us off potentially returning to this resort, which is located in a beautiful setting. The service in the restaurant was excellent.

The indoor and outdoor pool was nice. The view from the spa was lovely but you are not aloud to take photos of the view as no phones aloud.
Our room was nice enough but could probably do with updating.
Staff in the restaurant and the lifeguards were friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately I have to say that it was average and overpriced.

Portavadie - Lovely Spot

Overall our stay was really nice. The resort is v well kept, peaceful and the staff are friendly and helpful. It was a bit limiting that leisure facilities were only open 10 till 5.30 as people are often out for the day and would like to be able to access these earlier or when they return later as well. We fully appreciated however that recent circumstances may have been a factor and so perhaps this is something that could be looked at in the future.

The hotel is described as a 'Luxury hotel and spa' - the room was fine, but I wouldn't describe it as 'luxury'.

The bathroom and shower were quite small and the room just had one small window.

The breakfast food was very nice, but the coffee was instant - which I wouldn't expect in a 'luxury' hotel.

Absolutely BRILLIANT our stay was better than we could've imagined. Hotel and spa were fantastic. We had booked the spa for 4pm but got lost on our journey. I called the hotel and they said don't worry we will change it if possible for your arrival and they did. The restaurant was fully booked too but again the staff came good and managed to fit us in. Next day when we were leaving and I was short on petrol the staff came to the rescue again and we were able to buy fuel from the marina.Just to let you reviewers know I was riding a motorbike. The food was excellent both at dinner and next day breakfast. Only word of advice would be book early for the restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Really can't praise the staff highly enough. I will definitely be going back. Brilliant hotel in a fantastic setting and second to none staff.

Great stay- cottages cosier than ever

3rd time staying in the cottages- i think they might have added new windows to them or new heaters.. the cottages were wonderfully warm and cosy, making the experience even better than before. the pool is as magnificent as ever- lovely and warm. staff are very helpful indeed and fussed over every dog in the place. There's really nothing to fault here at all
