It was great apart from room being next to main road would suggest triple glazing as I am a light sleeper a had an early rise for 7am ferry but kept getting woken up by passing trucks during the early hours, apart from that room was perfect.

An unusual B&B. Very little personal contact with the owners. No one to welcome us and we were let in on ringing the bell. No dining/breakfast room and breakfast was ordered via leaving a form and then delivered to the bedroom at the time requested. The breakfast was fine though and the hotel clean and comfortable. It was just rather odd and reminded us of going to a hotel at eh height of the Covid pandemic.

The Knap House is a clean and convenient little hotel in Tarbert which is a great place to stay if visiting the Isle of Islay & its distilleries. Its not fancy but has all the amenities. Having a refrigerator is a nice touch. Be ready to climb the stairs; most rooms are on the 3rd floor. The included breakfast was good.

What a cute suite! Right on the corner, we could see the bay and people watch. There is a corner store across the street and a great deli/takeaway downstairs. This was just what we needed after a long day in the car. We were lucky with the weather but I think it would be lovely no matter when you visit.

A perfectly pleasant stay. However it lacks the human touch. Everything is automated and seems organised to minimise interaction between host and guest. Breakfast - all three courses at the same time left at your door - eating cereal first meant cold bacon sandwich and cold toast. Run for the proprietor not the guest.

Nice and clean, cosy and bed was comfy.
Alan was a good host.
Loved the personal touch where the light breakfast is brought to your room at the time which suits.

Also, in case there are any folk out there who may want to know where they are staying is secure use this place. Nobody can gain access without an electronic key fob from the host. When you arrive there is a video doorbell which adds to the security. (Not that you would need it as Tarbert is a nice place)

We arrived around 8:45pm. It was contactless checkin but
It was very quick and easy and no problems at all. Property was always quick to respond to me and communication was great. We basically just slept there so we can not comment about much else. We left for the ferry at 5:50 am so I am not sure if breakfast is good or not. Very clean and the room was great!

The Grand Suite, now labeled as the Captain's Suite is very large and comfortable spread over 2 floors. We really enjoyed the space, with one major complaint! The bed is advertised as a queen, and I believe it was a double. Plus, it was avery short bed, with a head and footboard. It made for 2 very difficult nights of attempted sleeping! That being said, if you don't require a larger bed, I believe this is one of the best options available in Tarbert.

Great position and location. There are several stairs in the property. Quality and care were good.
Check in was easy, albeit with no contact with the staff.
Facilities were. Wifi and mobile phone reception were ok.
Breakfast was good and efficient, delivered on a tray at a specific time.
Check out was at 10am, which I feel in these days, is a bit early.
In my opinion it should be either 11am or 12pm.
All a bit rushed on the morning of check out.
Overall, had a great stay and would definitely return.

This was an exceptionally hot weekend and a fan would have been a great help. Met Alan in the morning, lovely and friendly man. Would strongly recommend as a good place to stay.

I only stayed one night but I couldn't fault the Knap B&B. The room was clean and tastfully decorated with a view towards the harbour.
I was leaving pretty early to catch a ferry, 06.00, but Alan made sure I had a roll and bacon to go.
The location is perfect as it's right in the centre of Tarbert. Plenty of on street parking is available along the harbour side.

Too Much Information - Would stay again!

Well appointed and relatively spacious room and bathroom were a great start.Tarbert seems, and probably is, a bit grimy ( don't look too closely at the water), but two quayside pubs were fine behind forbidding exterior. Breakfast delivered to room suited me but I guess it wouldn't suit all. Don't believe the wait they advise at the chip shop. Starfish restaurant very good.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Tarbert at the Knap guest house. Our room was comfortable and spacious with, I'm delighted to report, good soundproofing. Breakfast has changed because of Covid and is delivered to your room. We had a table with views of the harbour from which to enjoy it. Hot filled rolls instead of the usual options made for a refreshing change.

I would definitely recommend and can absolutely understand the high ratings which drew us here in the first place.

Alistair, is a fantastic host, met us for check in, made us an amazing breakfast, and was very nice. We enjoyed the breakfast conversation. The wifi was good, the bed comfortable and parking on the street was easy in November.

Alistair was very welcoming, helpful and friendly. Our room overlooked the harbour at Tarbert. The room was tastefully done and very comfortable.There were nice little touches eg fridge in room, sweets in a jar. The guest rooms were above shops. It was a doctors house with pharmacy underneath and surgery at the back. The parking was on the street but it was free and we got a space ok. The guest house is right in the middle of Tarbert at the harbour very convenient for the restaurants and shops. It is a beautiful little town and an ideal spot to stay to travel the Kintyre peninsula, which is also very beautiful. I would certainly return here if we travel to that region again.

Our one night stay was very comfortable, the Room had so many interesting pieces of Art, everywhere you look there is something to admire. The Room consisted of a very larger Lounge, two Settees, Armchair, Writing Desk, various Seats and Furniture, Log Fire, Fridge and more.

Alister greased us at the Door then showed us the communal Kitchen and Dinning area followed by our large Lounge and Bedroom, he had also provided us with two small Bottles of Wine (Red & White), Local Cheese and Biscuits.

Breakfast the following Morning was all cooked freshly and to perfection, Alister did it all while we were sat in the open plan Kitchen/ Dinning Room, a very skilful man.

Alister gave us some suggestions for our Evening dinning which was very helpful, we eventually choose Cafe Ca'Dora, it looks like a standard Seaside Cafe, however the Menu and very well prepared food was of a top end Restaurant, especially the Scollops, the best we have had for many years.

Spent 2 nights here. Alistair the owner was brilliant told us where to eat in the village and how to get to the ferry next morning tea and coffee in the room tv as well. Shower was excellent plenty of hot water and even though by the main road no noise at night breakfast on the day we left set us up for the day will definitely book again next yeat

Location: Excellent, right in centre of village, across the road from the CoOp store, 100m from Pub, on road into village and continues to the Kennacraig Ferry 5 miles away. 120 year old three story house, entrance on ground floor, stairs to first fl, rooms and breakfast rm. more stairs to 2 nd floor rooms (40stairs in total). Twin beds, robe, coffee & tea with fresh milk in mini fridge. Cable TV. Ensuite Bathroom adequate size, sloping ceiling. Comfortable beds. Windows can be opened 2 way. Small well appointed bathroom with good quality linen, inc face washers, toiletries supplied. Full Scottish breakfast, very good quality. Parking on street adjacent, fronting the harbour. Good free wifi.

Great B&B Guest House. Rooms are lovely and very comfortable. Cleanliness is top class and my breakfast was freshly cooked in front of me in an open plan kitchen, by the owner. Stayed there twice now on my way to Islay and cannot recommend it highly enough
