Located in a really nice area, with just the river in front of the hotel.

Food was excellent, the fish was so fresh, and the manager who served us, explained the dishes and cheese platter very well.

We really enjoyed ourselves and will recommend to our family and friends.

Beautiful lochside setting with a range of seating areas and fire pit available. Very dog friendly with towels, toys and biscuits provided. All public areas are spacious which means social distancing is possible without everyone resorting to masks. Management are very friendly and keen to make your stay enjoyable.

This is an amazing 300 year old hunting accommodation. A gorgeous property tucked away just outside Taynuilt. There is a dinner option available which is bit pricey. Breakfast is provided again with menu choices and a cereal bar. A very nice hotel with country charm.

Good night's sleep

We received a good welcome. Our rooms were very comfortable and we particularly appreciated the blackout curtains. This hotel has wonderful potential - just needs some more refurbishment in some areas (e.g. bathroom suite was tired). Staff we met were dedicated to making our stay good. Oh, and the view over the Loch was amazing! PS the croquet was fun too!

Outstanding Location

Absolutely outstanding location, glorious - would return for this alone.
However our experience was a little mixed. Dinner excellent, but expensive, as were the drinks.Breakfast good, but nothing special. Staff delightful, very friendly but over-stretched at times.
Our room was a little tired and disappointing, as was the bathroom. There was no plug for the bath and the shower ran hot and would not cool. Reported this on departure and was assured this would be rectified.
This hotel has the potential to be somewhere very special indeed and it is such a shame that with a little more care an attention to detail this is not the case.

A beautiful and peaceful inn on a lovely property on a beautiful loch. It’s off the beaten track on a single track road. The staff are helpful and willing. The facilities are up to date for the most part. Our shower didn’t work, but everything else was fine. The food is absolutely wonderful. I had the best lamb dish I have ever eaten. Everything we ate was excellent. Will return for a 3rd visit.

Beautiful scenery on loch awe. The structure is charming and the staff was kind. Unfortunately, the interior seemed neglected, offputting smells throughout (strong cleaners and even some sewage odor outside) and there did not seem to be enough people around to tend to ambience. Fireplaces never lit, glassware and empty bottles in the social areas for entire days. Probably needs more staff and attention to detail. Again, staff was very kind. I suppose we just expected more from such a highly regarded hotel.

Stunning aspect but in need of a renovation.

Stunning location on the edge of Loch Awe. The hotel is comfortable but it is old and tired and in desperate need of some renovation. The staff were pleasant but not overly helpful. We arrived to check in only to be greeted by the receptionist and her colleague sitting around drinking wine and they were not particularly attentive to us. Breakfast was really good. The situation and the aspect of the property would take us back there, the service and the state of the property would not.

How is this hotel AA rated?

I was asked to move my car, just as I entered the dining room. They could have asked me earlier, rather than waiting until we had an audience, two of whom applauded when I moved my car!
The menu was very limited. 1 Fish, 1 meat and 1 vegetarian option. I chose the lamb - very fatty, very tough and undercooked.
After dinner drinks were served without ice. When I asked for ice, I was told it was in short supply. Needless to say, we did not have a second round.
I suffered from the runs during the night. Draw your own conclusion!
Receptionist suggested that it took 24 hours for food poisoning to kick in. I always though it was 7 to 8.
Overall, a huge disappointment.

Very disappointed returners

We had stayed at Taychreggan quite a few years ago and were really looking forward to our return but we were really disappointed. The bar was extremely badly stocked. On our second night the service in the restaurant was very slow and the meal was cold. We complained at the time to be told it had just been cooked. Many parts of the approach Road were in extremely poor condition. The staff were very pleasant and helpful but I’mafraid we won’t be returning.

Didn't live up to expectation

Billed as the most romantic hotel in Scotland, but the shower didn't work. When we advised the staff, no one came and the shower still wasn't working after two nights, luckily the room had a bath.
Our room also had a noisy electrical motor drone, when asked what could be done about it the manager stated it turns off at 9pm which was ok as we had dinner till after that time. He didn't declare that it comes back on at 6.30 to 7am as they prepare breakfast.
Wifi only worked in the communal areas and as we're from Australia business communication was early in the morning but all the lights were turned off and the switches hidden in a cupboard with no staff on till after 7am

Needs some work to improve its image.

The hotel is situated at the end of a 7 mile, often single track road, and not everybody drives at a suitable speed, so be careful getting to the hotel. The old part of the building was nice and cosy with views out to the loch. The new part was soulless, it needed something to make it welcoming. The resteurant view down the loch was very good, but agan the room needed something to make it more inviting. The food at £28 for two courses and £35 for three, was well cooked and tasty but very expensive for what it was. I had lamb and my wife the fish dish, we both had the \"Scottish cheese\" for desert. Four oat cakes, a spoon of pickle, a small slice of brie and a smaller cube of smoked cheese. Crying out for a piece of Scottish chedder and a piece of blue. A small amount of thought and a couple of extras, like iced water and a tea or coffee included in the price would have improved the experience no end. Our room was OK with a very, very soft bed, not to our liking at all. We also had constant noise all night and were told in the morning that we were by the tumble dryers and they had been left on all night. No TV available. We were on a special deal for the night so consider the experience just about OK. The staff were very good but at times had to be looked for.
Considering its position it would be a very good hotel to have as a base for exploring the countryside, but it needs to a look at what and how it presents itself. As it is, B&B is the best choice for the traveller.

Wonderful Seclusion

Amazing location, beautiful views, and quality accommodation.
Only negative is the understaffing at the weekend. The receptionist = bar staff = waitress.
Guests trying to check out during busy breakfast serving time were left frustrated. At least one additional staff member needed at the weekend.

Average Experience for an Above Average Price

Average experience overall. The single track public road from which the property is accessed is several miles long and used by locals who drive faster than the road allows really so great care has to be taken. Positives were location, right on the loch side, breakfast menu was reasonably diverse and staff were friendly. Negatives were room, we booked a superior room which was tired - some bathroom floor tiles were loose (junior suites have been refurbished and have loch views), bathroom supplies were not replenished over the three days we were there and we had no shampoo or body wash for our last day, internet is only available in the sitting room and is quite slow.

Dress nice, be treated well...

Wifi is terrible, only available downstairs. Room service didn't even turn the bed, and the clean towels were left on the cupboard somewhat folded and stacked. The owner and regular guests were stuffy and we felt in the way for having t shirts on. Dinner is only smart casual, as you don't want to ruin other's dining experiences. The radiators hardly get hot, the room has no air circulation and expect to be treated differently based on your apparent social class. My wife and I were wearing casual dress code and were treated inferior to another couple dressed in near formal wear. While I come to expect this at upscale hotels and while in the city, I did not expect this from a country retreat where midges swarm around the property.

Quiet and secluded

Access - practice your reversing as the hotel is at the end of 7.2 miles of a twisting single-track road (with passing places).
Hotel condition is good, bedrooms very comfortable, clean, decent size. Our ensuite bathroom was particularly good, very well fitted out.I think we were upgraded as we had a room with a view of the loch, our friends had a standard room with a duller view but its condition was similar to ours and size not much less. We did not pay extra for the upgrade.
There is however a lack of staff, friendly but service can be slow, especially evening in bar and restaurant. Bar food is not readily available despite their claims. Dinner is a set menu with little choice, must be selected 24 hours in advance and is £50 per head. The food is probably excellent (looked and smelled ok) but we never took dinner there. Overall ambience quiet and laidback but a bit like Fawlty Towers - although in a good way.

We stumbled on this place looking for somewhere to stay near Oban which was completely booked it due to a music festival. Couldn't have chosen better! Stayed for dinner which was delightful, wines also very good and well matched recommendations. Staff absolutely lovely and very friendly and courteous. We stayed in a basic room which was clean and comfortable with a simple and clean bathroom. Some fittings starting to show signs of wear but really don't detract from how lovely the overall space is. Wonderful and would love to come back!

A absolutely brilliant hotel

Stayed here on the night of my engagement. The hotel manager and the chef helped me put together a special menu and the service was brilliant for our whole stay. A great hotel in a great location. Highly recommended!

Lovely country house hotel

We were there for 2 nights and enjoyed the '5 course tasting menu' on both evenings, which we thought was lovely - both meals were beautifully balanced and excellently prepared. A very thoughtful and reasonably priced wine list to compliment. Nice relaxed atmosphere in the hotel and the grounds have several strategically placed benches to enjoy a quiet contemplative drink while gazing across Loch Awe. We'll be back.

\nLocation outstanding

I do not want any of this report published.

If you think it benefits the owner of the premises you can give him a copy.

My wife and I met the owners without realising it at the time we enjoyed their company and had a very pleasant night.

Having stayed in the hotel for 2 nights a number of years ago we enjoyed it so much we looked forward to a relaxing break on our 50th wedding anniversary before our party.

Before retirement I was a consultant within the food/catering and cleaning industry within the UK and overseas, the hotel is set in one of the most edilic situations in Scotland and has the potential to be a very profitable business.

Number of people booked in on 6th October15 was 4. (Atmosphere : ?)

If having the cheaper menu you were asked to sit in the bar this makes people feel as if they are second class citizens. (People should be offered the choice where they want to eat not based on price)

The price of both menus are to expensive if you want to fill your hotel on a regular basis.

Your £50.00 should be £30.00 your bar menu should be half.

Marketing your hotel is something you should think about very carfully as money can disappear without seeing a return for it.

You must have people talking about your hotel as the place to go.

That will not happen if you continue trading the way you are at present.

Fixed overheads + variable =. Turnover = I don't think the balance sheet will look all that great.

I really hope you and your wife are successful. Don

We would definitley stay here again. Fab food!

The hotel was perfect for a quiet night away, but the highlight was definitely the food, we had a fabulous set meal and the suggested wine was both reasonable and delicious. The hotel was spotlessly clean but needing a little TLC in places, however, this didn't detract from the service, views and welcome. The staff were all very polite, friendly and helpful.
A slight disappointment was that there were no loch-side walks which we would have loved as we had our dog with us.
Our 1 complaint is really with Hotels.com which listed the hotel as being 9 miles from Inverary, where we were looking to stay, this must be as the crow flies, having to go around the magnificent Loch Awe made it 32 miles!

Beautiful hôtel but horrible service

The hotel is hard to get to but well worth it. It's beautiful and rooms are amazing. The only down side is that the staff had a bad attitude.
