Welcoming Staff

The hotel staff were very welcoming! The meals offered and bar had excellent options, even for me when I have to eat gluten free. Hotel is a little dated but comfortable accommodations and nice size rooms and bathroom.

Second time at the Hotel Glymur for a romantic getaway. Beautiful & peaceful boutique hotel is perched on one of the largest Fjord's in Iceland. Amazing views from the main hotel, especially from the restaurant and seating area. Two wonderful hot pots overlooking the fjord at the main hotel with the larger cottages having their own hot pot. Breakfast is amazing with fresh fruits, cooked eggs, bacon, yogurts, cereals, & smoked salmon. Dinner was delicious. Hotel has a relaxed vibe and the customer service is spot on often with the staff going above and beyond. Comfy beds with cosy bedding ensure a restful night sleep. Close to Glymur falls the second tallest waterfall in Iceland.

The service was amazing. The food at the restaurant was excellent. The ONLY downside is the rooms have one large chair in the tv area and the rooms in the main lodge are three levels. The stairs to the bed (upstairs) have a metal piece that we kept hitting out feet on. Not a reason not to stay in this beautiful place but just beware.

This place deserves more stars

We had a really marvelous stay. We were there two days and had dinner and breakfasts there. We thought that the food was quite excellent. Maybe they have a new chef because this was the best we had in Iceland and we had some very good meals. Breakfasts had a very good variety and was fresh and well prepared (smoked salmon, eggs prepared in various way, variety of breads and juices, a wide choice of jams, fresh croissants etc. The view from the dining room was also awe inspiring. The staff were very friendly and supportive and they addressed any issues we had right away. We upgraded to one of the villas when we saw that hotels.com had a very good price. The villa had more space than we needed but it was great to have our own hot tub, fridge, microwave, dining table etc. Everything was in excellent condition. The bedroom had a very good set of blackout shades which is important in summer in Iceland (surprised that other hotels did not always have them). The villa also had excellent wifi. The area has some wonderful hikes and it is not too far to the Snaefellsnes peninsula which is a fantastic day trip. We couldn't have been happier - and we are recommending this place to our friends.

Beautiful and quiet

Views over the fjord are astonishing. Lovely and quiet this was our favourite place we stayed on our trip.

Cabin was huge and had everything we needed. Dinner in main hotel on both nights was gorgeous and staff extremely helpful.

Will definitely be staying here again on future trips

We stayed at this hotel in the summer of 2018. it's very secluded but with amazing view of the Fjords. The cabinet was very specious with huge balcony. The bed was very comfortable, however, the running water does small like egg. We did not mind it.

Wifi isn't working at our cabinet at all so we had to walk up to the main building to get some work done. Breakfast was delicious and full of things to choose from. we will be back there again.

Cozy hotel with private villas. Maids need to clean under beds and furniture. Some staff was very friendly, others seemed neutral and sometimes somewhat cold. Views of fjord and overall location were amazing. With some minor improvements this could be the best hotel in the area.

We got there in the dark and woke up to the most beautiful views! I had to rent 2 room villa because the hotel was full. Totally worth the money. Private hot tub! Lots of space in villa for 2 couples. (Just ask to have outdoor lights turned off. VERY bright.)

Love this place. Our second time visiting.

Hotel Glymur is comfortable and relaxing. I love the water and mountains. The restaurant is wonderful with excellent selections and a good wine list. We sat in the lounge afterward with a cocktail and conversation with new friends from the table next to us at dinner. Later the staff told us the northern lights were visible, so went outside and took several excellent pictures.

The breakfast buffet was fresh with many selections. It’s only 90 minutes to Keflavik airport, so perfect for the last night in Iceland if you have a rental car.

Solid hotel accommodations with personal service

We used this hotel as a convenient place to stay after a long day of sightseeing activities that would not be too far from the next day's activities. So we were not expecting greatness - only to be surprised by the personal quality of service in terms of politeness, flexibility, and willingness to help us. We were able to get upgrades, have the breakfast hour moved up by an entire hour, and get help with our bags. It is somewhat remote but the restaurant was very good and it appeared that many locals went there to eat. Rooms were clean but small. Bedrooms were in a loft where one had to climb up a narrow staircase to get to the bed. It was a bit inconvenient to have to negotiate one's way down to the bathroom on the first floor during the night but doable. There was ample parking and everything worked. I'd recommend the hotel.

Gorgeous Views at Charming Hotel

What a charming hotel! Lots of quirky decorations throughout the hotel and in rooms. The staff were absolutely lovely- happy to help with any and all questions. We had a loft room, which was small but more than sufficient, with a breathtaking view of the fjord. We made use of the two hot-spring fed hot tubs available to guests as well. Sitting and looking out over the mountains at sunset was a magical experience. Breakfast was generous and good!
P.S. If you drive to the hotel from Reykjavik, avoid a $10 toll by driving around the peninsula, rather than through the tunnel. It's an extra ~20min, and though the roads are winding the views are stunning.

Third stay here. Never disappoints. Located 1.5 hrs or so from Keflavik, overlooking a fjord. Hotel is cosy. A couple of hot tubs overlooking fjord. Breakfasts and dinners very good. Staff are attentive, friendly and efficient. Nice bar. Just a great place. A fourth visit is on the cards.

Loved this place and the hot tubs were AMAZING in the barely above freezing temps. Plus, how amazing is it to say that you saw the Northern Lights from your hotel room??? The rooms are fantastic. The only thing perhaps that I would change is the addition of a microwave. I would definitely stay here again given the chance.

Best hotel of our trip!

This is a review for the villas. We were blown away by the villas and the view! Everything was clean and well kept and well stocked. They had bath robes for our comfort and even coffee and creamers for the house. We were suprised by flowers and chocolates in the romantic villa. Perfect since we were celebrating our 12 year wedding anniversary. The hot tub was incredibly hot that we actually had to turn it down. But id prefer too hot over too cold, especially in Iceland. Breakfast was delcious and there was a good variety. The only thing i could recommend was that the coffee be warmer. We felt at home here and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Decor looks like it is from my grandmas house. Dining room was empty for dinner. Waitress was really nice. Lighting in the room was horrible. You were unable to read in bed. Light switches in the room didn’t turn lights on. Towels were old. Just a really strange place. Not impressed

Gorgeous View, Charming Hotel

Just ~50 miles from Reykjavik, but feels like you're way out in the country (in a good way). Gorgeous view of the lake and mountains, and friendly hotel staff. Probably a popular weekend getaway area for people who like in downtown Reykjavik, I'm guessing.

Worth the drive!

It is a longer drive to take Rt 47 to Glymur, but I wouldn't have traded some of the beautiful sights for the world, and certainly not the tunnel which you can take on the return. At the end of the drive is a sweet treat - the Hotel Glymur, with sweet attentive staff, delicious meals, fun rooms, and the feeling that you are at an exclusive lodge in the foothills. I loved my stay here.

So bad we paid $600 on other hotels to leave early

We were very excited for our stay at Hotel Glymur. The location was gorgeous and we were expecting a cute, rural get-away. Unfortunately, the room was uninhabitable. The sheets were dirty and stained. The water in the shower reeked of sulphur. The smell was horrific, and it made the rest of the (tiny) room smell for hours. Worst of all, we couldn't open the windows to let the smell out because the windows lacked screens and there were hundreds of insects trying to get in. On top of all that, the blinds were nearly see through, which was a problem with 23 hours of sunlight each day.

We ended up leaving after only one night and re-arranging the last few days of our trip just to get out of this place.

Avoid unless you have literally no other options in the area, and enter with low expectations.

AWFUL. The room (and hotel) are extremely dated so there was little comfort. Hotel was \"managed\" by a 25 year old and teenagers so needless to say service was terrible. To top it off the water smelled like sulfur so you get to take a rotten egg shower. I wouldn't give this review but for the price. At this expensive price point, the hotel and service are completely unacceptable. On a positive note, the view and food were good.

The pros:Great view from the soaking tubs and interesting decor throughout the hotel. Breakfast is delish!

The cons: Apparently a European double bed is 2 singles pushed together. Not ideal for a romantic getaway! Internet in the room didn't work. Apparently a router was broken. No concierge and no good knowledge about local tourist sites. Luckily I had lonely planet guide with me.

Hotel Glymur is an absolutely wonderful hotel in stunning scenery. With giant windows you can watch the sun rise and set over the water and mountains. The surrounding area is gorgeous and not far from reykjavik. The hotel itself is beautiful and charming, has a wonderful breakfast, friendly and helpful staff, spacious rooms and overall comfort that can't be beat at this price.

Nice staff, has coffee /tea spot always, hottub, robes, shower that does not flood the whole bathroom. Bed is upstairs in loft. Very large breakfast options included. Nicest lobby. Had 8 nights with 7 hotels and this was the best.

Wonderfull overnight spot away from it all

Really good use of the space to provide a split level room making it a small studio. Very pleasant indeed. The views from the room were outstanding and the bar and restaurant were top notch. The hot tub is perfectly situated to be sheltered and get the best view.

From the outside you would not think that the hotel would be so nice on the inside, but it is. The views are great, the food is wonderful, the rooms are small but comfortable.(You can splurge on a villa or suite- not currently available through the web site). The staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is well located for exploring western Iceland..

Expensive hotel but not as good as it could be. Curtain ripped, tv didn't work and no wifi in the room as advertised. Evening meal very expensive but fairly average. Whilst it was perfectly fine and the problems easily fixed, Iceland has nicer hotels for a lot less money. Not sure what is 'boutique' about it...

Beautiful place!

This hotel is in a very remote location but very scenic and special. Although within about 45-60 minutes from Reykjavik it feels entirely different. A great getaway with fabulous staff. A big bonus was the wake up call when the Northern Lights were visible. Really a wonderful experience!

Decent hotel. Kind of strangely laid out. When you walk into the room there's the bathroom and a little seating area - then you go up a flight of stairs to the beds. The beds upstairs are a little interesting. Picture attached below since I don't even know how to explain. Overall, you're staying here to see the Northern Lights - you should be successful.
