The staff member at the front desk was very kind on the day we checked in, as well as the day we checked out. There’s no breakfast served during the winter but there is coffee/tea and some biscuits and spreads laid out for travellers which was very nice! We were also able to see the northern lights from the hot tub out back! An amazing bonus!

This hotel was nothing short of magical. From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded expectations. The room itself was beautiful—spacious, impeccably clean, and thoughtfully designed to be both cozy and luxurious after long days of exploring Iceland.

But the real showstopper? Sitting in the hot tub while watching the northern lights dance across the sky. It’s hard to put into words just how surreal and unforgettable that experience was—truly a once-in-a-lifetime moment that I’ll carry with me forever.

On top of that, the staff was exceptional. Warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive, they went out of their way to make sure every detail of our stay was perfect. You could feel how much they cared about creating an incredible experience for their guests.

If you’re looking for a place in Iceland that combines comfort, breathtaking scenery, and outstanding service, this is it. I can’t recommend it highly enough—and I would return in a heartbeat.

I stayed for two nights in a modern cabin close to the beach, which I think they refer to as a \"luxury cottage\". Friendly staff, clean & comfortable room with kitchenette including a microwave and mini fridge. A simple but filling breakfast each morning at the main building was included in the price. Brilliant! I would stay here again.

First I would like to mention that we stayed in the cottage, so my review is about it.
Easy check in. The property is 5 minutes from town on a beach area, so there nothing around. We loved it. The cottage was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable EXCEPT the pillows which were triable- flat and old- NEED NEW Pillows!! Also recommend to have a mat by the front door and kitchen towel.
We enjoyed our stay for one night and definitely will recommend this glance. Breakfast was good as well. There a hot tub, dry sauna and small relaxation room. We used it and enjoyed it!

We stayed in one of the cabins which was well set up and was comfortable. There is a beautiful mountain view from the front windows, but the ambiance of the cabins could be improved with a bit of landscaping.

We stayed for one night. Our room was renovated and the bed was comfy. The hotel has a sauna and a hot tub whose water is geothermal from the nearby mountain. The beach is in walking distance and the town is a few minutes drive across the bridge. Overall, a nice and relaxing stay!

Staffs are great, checkin was smooth, and it also included breakfast.

The building is bit old so you can hear other rooms easily. In addition, the second floor has very low ceiling, so you can even bump to it when sit up on the bed. Hot water has a extremely strong sulphur smells.

Considering the price, I would give it 3*.

The hotel Hafnarfjall was just terrible. The condition of both rooms (Rooms 4 & 5) was not clean, the bedding was worn, and the bathroom needed a major cleaning and upgrade. This hotel was the worst hotel on our 17-day trip to Iceland. I woke up with many bite marks on my body staying in Room 4 near the twin bed by the window which I have documented, most likely from this hotel. In the morning, coffee was instant coffee and not made fresh.

A great experience in a private cabin, access to hot tub, with wonderful views, close to amenities, restaurants, etc. It was pretty windy when we stayed at Hafnarfjall so we stayed in but heard others rave about the shoreline walk, too.

Unless the room in main building, otherwise , I stay in a cabin , not good, have to drive through unpave road for 3mins, there is no curtain in the room, others can see us sleeping, wifi is not as good as main building, but when I booked this place, I wasn’t told I would not stay main building.

You have the best of both worlds at this hotel. One side you have a view of the ocean and can walk to the beach. On the other side you have majestic mountain views. It was quiet and very cozy. A continental breakfast was included and provided a nice start to each day. The staff was always friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Room was great as long as you don’t mind bumping your head. The room we had had a severely sloped roof. My friend had to pull the bed over to make sure she wouldn’t bonk her head in the middle of the night. But you did get great views of the mountain that way. My friend did also get a bed that rocked a bit. It was weird. But the location is great and the atmosphere of the building was super nice.

The photos on the site were extremely misleading, as the rooms there look exceptional and clean, whereas the room we were given (private bathroom) was more like a Motel 6 room, with carpeted floors. Nothing like what we expected based on the advertisement.

We stayed at one of the cabins by the lake. They are super small, but they have everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. The bathroom sink is very small, and not practical. But, overall, this was one of our favorite places to stay in Iceland.

I made the mistake of booking a shared bathroom. check carefully if you prefer an ensuite. the room was small roof at a sharp angle and could only stand in 1/2 the room. It was clean. Owner friendly. Hotel is over the bridge out of town

The location of this property is picturesque with lovely water views. The beds are very comfortable and the room and bathroom were very clean. The property is dated and could use some sprucing up. The hot water is from hot springs and smells quite strongly of sulfur. Those with respiratory disorders should avoid!

Ok...worst room we stayed in during the 8 day trip

Adequate. Breakfast was great but room was old and in need of a facelift. According to online pictures there were updated rooms but I wasn't in one. Common area was nice and the owner let us stay up and play cards after typical closing. Our room smelled a bit (stale) and water has a \"distinct\" sulfur small. There was an outdoor tub but it was small and crowded when we were there. There is not much in the near area, but towns close by.

This property is located on the other side of the water from Borgarnes, important to know since, for some unknown reason, it does not show up on a GPS system for the area. Approaching from the south on Rte 1, there is very clear signage directing guests to a turn off on the left side, immediately before crossing the bridge into the town. The building looks to be an older facility that has probably seen a better day – – sort of the Motel 6 of Borgarnes. The rooms appear to be a bit dated and tired looking, but clean enough and comfortable enough to choose the place for an overnight. Check in and check out went very quickly and efficiently. A restaurant is on site but only serves breakfast in the dining room. The room was on the small but adequate side, with no equipment by way of TV, mini fridge, or microwave. The hot water had a slight smell of sulfur to it, which was a bit of a surprise (an unpleasant one for my wife). The area was very quiet, with great views over the water from the rear. Breakfast was more than adequate, iffering cereals, and a variety of meats and cheeses, as well as the usual beverages.. Would we stay here again if we were in the area? Yes.

This is an older property.
While there was coffee and sugar in the room, there was no creamer.
No TV in the room. There was a TV in the common hall.
The view of Hafnarfjall was great. Proximity to Borgarnes is also helpful.

Lovely peaceful hotel. Rooms very clean and comfortable although rather small. We stayed for 6 nights which we realised was unusual for this hotel as there were no facilities for hanging or storing clothes. Perfect for a 1 or 2 night stay when you don't mind living from the suitcase. No tea or coffee making facilities in room but is readily available in hotel reception. We were upgraded to one of the cabins for our last 3 nights which was like a mini apartment. It had a hob, microvave, fridge, kettle, crockery and utensils however still no storage space. There is a small hot tub on site but it could have done with having a path or decking leading to it to save walking in the mud. Nice cold buffet breakfast. Gilvey and his staff were extremely helpful giving advice on weather and road conditions. There is no wake up call for the northern lights though which was disappointing as we missed them one morning outside the hotel however we were lucky enough to catch them 2 nights during our trip whilst out and about in the evenings despite the full moon.

Located just a stone throw's away from Bogarnes, the large town nearby. Just secluded enough to be clear of light pollution. And surrounded by the sea and mountain ranges. Room was cosy though a little small. Bathroom was clean and maintained well. Breakfast spread was the usual on par with many establishments. Ample parking around.

Wir waren in einer der neueren Cabins und die war richtig neu und sauber. Tolle Aussicht aufs Wasser und die Stadt Borgarnes. Das Wetter war ziemlich windig und nass aber wir haben gemütlich im Hot Pot gesessen. Die Anlage liegt Nahe zur Ringstraße, was natürlich sehr verkehrsgünstig ist, dadurch hört man aber auch bei offenem Fenster ab morgens den Verkehr, was uns jetzt allerdings nicht sonderlich gestört hat. Mal gucken, ob die Cabins die nächsten Jahre so ordentlich und gepflegt bleiben. Es wäre zu wünschen.

Endroit calme avec la montagne d'un côté et la mer de l'autre.

Les photos sont trompeuses. Lhotel est moins bien que les photos. Nous avions une chambre petite et mansardé. Il faisait très chaud à l'intérieur. La douche était pas très propre et l'eau chaude sentait énorme t le souffre car elle provient des sources d'eau chaude. Le petit déjeuner est également peu varier des gâteaux du supermarché, peu de choix. Encore une fois la photo ne represente pas le réel
