Lovely hotel

Lovely hotel well placed for access to the town.
I managed to make use of the pool and had it to myself.
Room was clean and comfortable.
Breakfast had a good choice of food but like many German hotels, no options for those with dietary requirements.
We made the mistake of eating our evening meal here and it's fair to say it was basic. A set menu with no option for dietary needs.

Excellent welcome and outstanding service from Ayaub at Reception, who went beyond the call of duty after his shift had ended, by walking with me to find my car which I had previously abandoned after misdirection by satnav on arrival in Monschau. Good value accommodation in a well-appointed hotel.

A very no frills room in need of a good cleaning and some updating. The elevator wasnt working, which seems to be a common occurance according to reviews. We stayed on the 5th floor, which was a bit of a trek with luggage. The location was convenient if taking transit, just a couple mins from the stop, and a short walk to the town centre. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was pretty good.

Little old and tired, needs a refurb, good staff

I have stayed here many times in the past, but it hasnt updated for about 14 years, so old furniture, bathrooms etc. The staff try hard, buts the hotel needs updating. Bar is open limited hours (opens at 8pm), after restaurant closes, and thr restaurant is buffet only, with a very limited choice.

This hotel is a large standard hotel in a fabulous position to explore Monschau and the surrounding area. Car park is a huge bonus.
Our room was on the 5th floor. A reasonable size, clean, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was good.
Staff were helpful and friendly.
Would return if in the area.

Queued 30 minutes for check in and expect a long wait for any typ of bar service, due to them only having 1 staff member that covers reception and the bar!

Breakfast wasnt much better as again only 2 staff members running the whole of the breakfast for the entire hotel! The breakfast selection though was very good and a lot to choose from.

The little staff members they did have were friendly and helpful though.

The rooms were tiny and cramped and very hot due to no aircon

We were on the 6th floor and the only lift they had was broken and unable to use, so humping a heavy suitcase up 6 flights of stairs was fun. A few other guests said that the staff memebers were seen still using the lift.

Good Stay But Bring Your Own Pillows

Room was spacious for standard double to include two sitting chairs. Furniture minimalistic with ok comfort. Might have well been no pillows for what pillows there were. Bathroom was nice and roomy. Room rug old but whole room was very clean. Check-in was quite slow. First could not find reservation because of name spelling even though we spelled out name. Then they were going to re-charge for room although we had prepaid. While none of this caused issue obtaining room just made process slow after having to wait a while to even check-in. But location is good, easy walk to town and Senfmule, which is why we came.
Stayed one night and ate in town so did not try hotel restaurant which was a dinner buffet for 19 euros with limited choice. Wifi strong enough to stream, not through VPN. Dogs allowed which will be a bonus for us for next time. Parking available in front of hotel for 7 euros per night. It is very tight. Worked for us for short stay.

Not as good as it once was

I have been staying here fairly regularly since 2009, and the standards have certainly dropped. Insufficient parking, check in can take time, lift is not working, bar is closed until 8pm, you have only buffet dinner which you need to book in advance, WiFi is too slow for working via VPN, no longer any bottled water in room..... Positives? Breakfast is good. It is a shame, I used to really like this hotel, but now it is a shadow of its former self.

On arrival in mid afternoon all the parking was occupied. However, there was many (chargeable) spaces on the roadside.

Hotel is large with some coach parties. Busy.

Room was excellent.

Dinner was a buffet (ca Eur 24). The ambience of the huge dining hall reminded me of a school canteen - but with smart table cloths. Good choice of food but some cold.

Food appears to be prepared in large batches and remains on offer until all gone. Inevitably, food goes cold and/or degrades in quality. Not helped by only having unheated plates available.

Very slow bar service at outside tables. Waited 15mins+ to be served then gave up.

Loved This Place

Went for the Christmas market. It was within walking distance. There is a lobby bar and there was a DJ. Every night there was a lot of people down at the bar partying it up! Very nice atmosphere. We also really like the pool, sauna, tanning bed available for the hotel guests.

Very cool Eurpoean hotel in a very neat Old German town.
Nestled in a valley overlooked by a castle. I only wish I had more time to explore.
Only downside was the waiters and bartenders did not seem to care much, buffet food never replenished for two hours. Bartender only seemed to want to go home.

Calm and Comfortable hotel

Stopped by for a two day business trip, hotel is in a lovely small picturesque town and general feel of the hotel is calm, reflecting its more rural location. Room was comfortable, although I don't like the pillows on the beds this may just be personal taste. WiFi was strong, which was a good job as the TV is limited (unless you want to pay for Movies). Bar and food were good, particularly enjoyed the 'Jaeger Schnitzel' and local beer. Breakfast buffet was excellent.

This is a 3 star hotel and not worth the money I paid. No spaces in hotel carpark so I had to park on main road leading to hotel and buy a ticket for 7 euro. The reception area is nice enough. Whilst checking in and speaking in English, the receptionist then took a phone call leaving us standing for several minutes before explaining where to go in German to me clearly forgetting I was English. My rooms were on the 6th floor in the eaves of the building. They were very basic and in need of modernisation but clean enough.
The swimming pool is small and cold. The sauna was a waste of time as it was mildly warm at best.
Breakfast was nice with good choice of cold food although only hot food were sausage and scrambled egg.
The hotel is located on a hill with about 5 minute walk downhill to the town centre.

Great for a short break

We stayed for two days on our tour of Germany, Monschau is a beautiful old town to visit the hotel situated about 5 to 10 minute walk from the town centre .Our room at the hotel was in the new block and was similar to what you find in a Holiday Inn , the staff were very accommodating in every way the breakfast was one of the best we have had we did not have a evening meal at the but tried one of the many quaint restaurants in the town

Average hotel in a beautiful village

We stayed at this hotel for our weekend at the Belgium grand prix. The hotel was pretty average. The location is great for the grand prix, an easy 40 min drive away from Spa and the village of Monshau is stunning. The breakfast was very good. The hotel staff weren't very friendly though and there was no wifi in our room.

A nice hotel in a stunning area. The hotel is a European 4* but would probably rate as a 3* in Britain. The reception staff were limited in their customer services training but the restaurant, bar staff and cleaners more than make up for any of the front counter short comings.

Gem of a town in the Eifel region of Germany

Arrived later than expected due to hold ups on Belgian motorways and a road closure from Eupen to Monschau. The requested car space by hotel (one passenger incapacitated) no longer available so had to park in adjacent parking area which had free parking overnight until 10am. Luckily able to unload baggage in the road close to hotel. Receptionist friendly, lift to room, rear facing room a little dowdy as it faced a steep bank with lots of vegetation. Dinner was buffet style but extensive as was breakfast next day. Well positioned just outside the historic town centre but difficult to locate from outskirts as most of the town centre's roads are out of bounds to cars during the main part of the day. The directions to the hotel on the website do not make that clear nor are there obvious signs on which road to take on the outskirts to access specific hotels.

+ We arrived quite late one evening and had a meal in the bar which was good value and very well cooked and served till 9pm which was really useful as most of the restaurants in Monschau seemed to shut at 8ish at this time of year ! Our room was bright, clean and cheerful. The free breakfast was delicious and I ate far too much ! The staff were helpful and pleasant. Overall Monschau is fascinating and there are some lovely walks around.
- I'd hoped for a swim before dinner one evening but the pool was unavailable because of two hours of swimming lessons. I wish they'd mentioned this as I could have been more flexible had I known. Parking could have been a problem as we arrived late and I feel it should be included in the price. It was quite difficult to find.

We used this as a one night stopover whilst travelling back to England but really wish we could have stayed for a couple of days. The hotel was clean, comfortable and in a lovely little town that we will at some point go back to explore. The hotel is large with many facilities and is in a nature park so the surroundings are green and leafy and tranquil. Considering this is a four star hotel I found the rates very reasonable. The staff were lovely and very welcoming and the room was clean and comfortable. As the hotel is very large and is used for conferences there is not always enough space in the car park but there is metered parking on the road outside the hotel. The breakfasts are fantastic, more of less everything you could want in the way of food or drink for breakfast. All in all I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, it is a hidden gem and I hope to go back there again in the near future.

Carat Hotel Monschau

We stayed at this hotel as it was in a good location for the Belgian Grand Prix. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The staff were efficient and friendly. There was great choice at the breakfast buffet.The food in the bar was of good quality and the staff there were excellent. The hotel is in an excellent location to explore the beautiful village of Monschau. The car park was quite small for the number of guests staying and on one of the evenings we had to park in a public carpark. Also the wi-fi in the lobby is a ridiculous price but this seems quite common in German hotels. Overall we had a great stay and would definately stay again.

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights, came over on motorbikes. What a wonderful find, the hotel was only 5 mins walk from the town centre, the staff were friendly and more than helpful. Each day they displayed the local weather which was very handy. Breakfast buffett pletniful with good selection. Rooms very clean and comfortable.
Swimming pool very clean, and warm
The town was amazing,set in a valley with a castle overlooking the town, lots of little streets to explore, worth taking train trip around the town. Plenty of cafes and resturants to eat in.
Only down side was that very lttle is translated into English, take your phrase book.
Have found out they hold a Chritmas market, I will be returning to do that .

Wer dem Hotel 4 Sterne gegeben hat, war nicht in der 5. Etage. Fleckiger Teppich im Zimmer, Waschbecken mit Sprüngen im Porzellan, Duschvorrichtung alt und locker in der Wand. Frühstücksraum schön gestaltet, Lebensmittelangebot entsprach nur bei sehr oberflächlicher Betrachtung der 4 Sterne, sondern war weit eher 3 Sterne wert.

Leider war der Pool nicht in Betrieb. Sauberkeit war okay ,geht aber besser. Das Frühstück war nicht besonders was die Auswahl angeht. Es gab bei den zwei Frühstücken exakt das gleiche. Identische Wurst , Käse gleicher Kuchen, Obstsalat, da habe ich mehr erwartet. Qualität war in Ordnung

Slechte hygiëne, kamer pas om 20:30 uur klaar. Er zou een bed bij geplaatst worden, was gewoon een bedbank. Slechte bedden. Wc lekte en stonk. In het algemeen trappenhuis deuren kapot, lift zat vast.

Wochenende in Monschau und Umgebung

Der Aufenthalt mit unseren Motorrädern im Achat-Hotel war ganz gut. Die Zimmer waren sauber, das Personal war sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Auch das Frühstück war sehr umfangreich und lecker. Das, was mich gestört hat, waren die Nasszellen. Es gab dort keine Absauganlage oder ein Fenster, sodass nach einem Toilettengang oder dem Duschen ein Durchzug durch ganze Zimmer organisiert werden muss. Leider waren in unseren Duschen nur eine Badewanne mit Brause und nach dem Duschen stand das ganze Bad Unterwasser. Das Zimmer zu zweit zu nutzen muss Organisiert werden.
Ich habe dann auch das Hallenbad genutzt, dass war nach jeder Tour sehr erfrischen und das kann ich auf jeden Fall empfelen.

Leider war unser Aufenthalt in diesem Hotel insgesamt enttäuschend. Der Service ließ stark zu wünschen übrig: Teilweise mussten wir 30 bis 45 Minuten warten, bis überhaupt jemand an unseren Tisch kam, um nach Getränkewünschen zu fragen. Selbst wenn das Personal in den Biergarten kam, wurden die übrigen Gäste komplett ignoriert – ein kurzer Blickkontakt oder eine Nachfrage: Fehlanzeige. Meist war nur ein Mitarbeiter (wohl von der Rezeption) gleichzeitig auch für die Bar zuständig und bediente alle Gäste allein. Insgesamt haben wir während unseres dreitägigen Aufenthalts lediglich drei verschiedene Angestellte gesehen – für ein Hotel deutlich zu wenig.

Auch die Zimmer waren leider nicht in gutem Zustand. Die Dusche quietschte laut beim Einschalten, im Zimmer roch es muffig, im Bad lagen lange schwarze Haare, und das Bett war voller dunkler Flusen – ein unhygienischer Eindruck, der leider den Gesamteindruck zusätzlich verschlechtert hat.

Hinzu kam, dass der Aufzug weder die zweite noch die dritte Etage angefahren hat. Unser Zimmer befand sich im zweiten Stock, sodass wir gezwungen waren, die Treppe zu benutzen – was extrem schwierig war, da eine Person in unserer Gruppe eine Gehbehinderung hat und auf einen Rollstuhl angewiesen ist.

We did not book breakfast or dinner. While checking in, we were informed that breakfast or diner was not available! We had dinner at a closeby (150 mtr) restaurant. Real home cooking style and very good. Breakfast was taken at a backery. The hotel rooms were convenient and clean. The hotel bar was open until midnight. It was a more like a pop-up bar… tables & chairs… nothing else. Besides drinks there is nothing else, no snacks, no peanuts or chips. However the beers and wines are good and reasonable priced. Would stay there again anyway but will book breakfast upfront.

Prima hotel om Monschau en omgeving te ontdekken

Perfecte locatie als je het gezellige plaatsje Monschau wilt bezoeken. Je kunt bij het hotel voor 9€ de hele dag parkeren. Het is er rustig en de kamer is basic met fijne bedden en een goede douche (in bad). Wij hebben niet ontbeten maar wel gezien dat het er goed uitzag. Prijs kwaliteit is in orde. Wifi is gratis. Kamers zijn wel gehorig. Vooral als er gedoucht wordt bij de buren hoor je dit wel.

Wir würden dort nicht nochmal buchen. Es war ok, aber eher eine Unterkunft, um Busladungen mit Reisegruppen zu versorgen. Lieblos.

Aan renovatie toe

Zeer vriendelijke ontvangst. Kamer zeer gedateerd en nodig aan renovatie toe. Raam had overdag open gestaan en daardoor waren er veel ongedierte in de kamer (rups, motten, muggen). Wel zeer goed geslapen; goed schoon bed en goede temperatuur.

Goed hotel. Konden eerder op de kamer zonder extra kosten. Alleen veel lawaai van de airco en de koelkast op de kamer. Airco begon om 04:30 een hard tikkend geluid te maken. Personeel erg vriendelijk en de kamers schoon.
