The room was exceptionally spacious and full of character. Many hotels are a bit soulless but this is far from the case here. The staff were professional, friendly and always with a smile. I've seen a few reviews have commented on 'hidden charges' - breakfast isn't included but this is clear from the very start and there's no pressure to eat here in the morning. If you do, however, the food is excellent (we had dinner) and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Anniversary present
Our overnight stay was an anniversary gift from our 3 sons, along with dinner on the Steam Train from Sheringham to Holt. Disabled access and nearby car parking were very useful and breakfast was excellent. Staff were helpful and the location was peaceful with beautiful grounds.

Hidden Gem in Upper Sheringham
We booked a long bank holiday weekend at the very last minute and were not disappointed. Very tranquil location so the town isn't really walkable unless you are super fit although only minutes from town in a car. But the hotel more than made up for that. Very traditional which made you feel like you were stepping back in time. The staff were all super friendly and made us feel very welcome. We couldn't fault the room. Very comfortable Super kingsize bed in quite a large room, which also had a fabulous bathroom. We only had breakfast one morning but they had a great selection of hot and cold options. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we were out exploring but the meals we saw others enjoying looked amazing. If we are ever in that neck of the woods again, we would most certainly stay here again.

Really lovely hotel and good value for money. The beds are really big and comfortable. Free toiletries in the room. Kettle with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits. The rooms were big. We had a ground floor superior room and it had a little terrace outside with patio doors and a chair and table. The grounds of the hotel are so lovely and beautiful. It is a 5 minute drive from Sheringham and was the perfect base for a Norfolk trip.

The food was excellent, but not always consistent - I had sea bass on one day which was so delicious (and as described in the menu) that I decided to have it again on my last night, but it was no where near as good - missing the chives in the mash, the dill sauce on the fish and not served with peas all as described in the menu. I’m guessing it was a different chef on duty.
I was disappointed with a mix up/misunderstanding about my room - but I think that was because of Expedia, not the fault of the hotel. And the hotel did try to resolve it.
I will definitely return and will know which room to request next time!

Our room was located (room12) within the attic. As a consequence the room was unbearably hot. Despite using 2 cooling fans for the whole duration of our stay we couldn’t cool the room sufficiently to feel comfortable and struggled to sleep.

A lovely old house in expansive parkland. Good food with great staff throughout. I can see why many guests return time and time again, very relaxing.

The old lift needs caution notices warning of the sudden stopping at floor levels. This could cause injury to joints/spine etc.
We only had one half used toilet roll in the bathroom.
No kettle/cups/tea and coffee in bedroom.
One point which disappointed us in particular was we were charged 80p for a splash of soda water in my wife’s glass of wine. This was not a spritzer it was a splash.

This lovely big house had character and was nestled in a tiny little village with an amazing national trust park next to it. You coukd walk from the garden into the park. Also good for walking to seaside (Sheringham), about 1.5 miles and also to train station (about the same). The staff were very friendly and helpful and had the knowledge of the local area.

Great location in quiet countryside, I had a sea view, hotel felt luxurious, food was good, breakfast very good, staff helpfull and polite, would recommend this hotel to single travellers or couples.

Laundry had failed to obliterate bottom sheet stains on the first night. After complaint sheet was replaced with a single just covering top of mattress . It rumpled and caused discomfort but was not replaced for third night. The only compensation offered was two free breakfast costing £30 final morning. The room was advertised as de luxe and cost £230 a night.

The location is such that whilst the hotel is in the heart of the countryside, it is also close to many Norfolk attractions and holiday spots. The staff were professional, attentive and personable. This hotel could be absolutely lovely. It's in a great location, with beautiful gardens, easy access to Sheringham Country Park/the coastal paths and welcoming staff. Unfortunately, the very uncomfortable bed and dated room/en-suite, along with the dead flowers left on the dining tables all weekend, really let it down. Otherwise, I would very happily return.

We were made very welcome at this beautiful country hotel by wonderful friendly staff. Our room was clean, comfortable and had direct access to the beautiful gardens, via a patio door, which was ideal, as we took our dog with us. The gardens border Sheringham Country Park. The food was amazing and well presented. We were able to eat in several areas of the hotel and our needs were always accommodated. My elderly mother, my beloved dog and I were patiently catered for by a wonderful team of staff and we were very grateful. This made our stay such a happy, memorable one. We will definitely return to this wonderful hotel and recommend to others seeking a peaceful country retreat, just outside Sheringham and so convenient for touring North Norfolk and all it has to offer. Fabulous!

I stayed a while back and it seemed tired, in many ways. It felt much improved, my ( dog) room had been refurbished in the shower room. The staff were more on the ball and the outside seemed better kept. The chef likes to cram lots on a plate, the lobster, salad and fries were literally heaped up, less is more, or put fries separately, but tasted good.

The hotel is quiet and surrounded by trees and fields. Walking or cycling would be quite hazardous as there are no footpaths and the roads are narrow. It is also necessary to have some transport if you are planning on looking at the nearby villages and towns as the property is not on a main bus route.
Having said that the hotel booked a reliable taxi for me on Friday evening, which turned up on time for both getting to West Runcton and back.

Although the bar meals were cooked and served very quickly, the first was slightly over cooked and the second could have been cooked a little more as not piping hot. Staff were friendly and attentive - overall a good weekend and I'd consider returning.

Country House in beautiful surroundings only a mile from the sea. We stayed on the ground floor and as we have a very old dog that suited us perfectly. Furnishings are rather dated and outside on the patio small dead xmas trees were not removed and broken flagstones, maintenance probably needs sorting very large tree had fell and not been removed despite looking as though it had been there of an age. Our room was large but on entering I noticed a very large spider in the corner of the ceiling with its prey and cobwebs so had been there awhile. The toilet was disgusting and appeared not to have been cleaned with at least three dark hairs around the lid called Reception and they offered to change our room but these standards were really not acceptable for the price of one nights stay.

Looking a bit tired now. The lift is reliable but the jolt on arriving to the desired floor is not a good sign. My parachute training was helpful in resisting the shock.

We loved the hotel and the room was amazing with a four poster bed and balcony over looking the gardens which was beautiful. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We had complimentary coffee and biscuits once we had checked in, the weather was amazing so we had this in the garden area. The location was great just a couple of minutes walk through the garden and we were in Sheringham Park.
I do feel that at the price charged per night breakfast should be included but that is the only negative thing. I would stay again though as it really was a wonderful place for a weekend away.

The fabric of the hotel is gorgeous and the grounds are stunning.
Our biggest disappointment was breakfast. We had a full English and the bacon was awful. It was over cooked and had then kept in a warming drawer for too long. The result was cardboard that we couldn’t eat. Also the white toast was so dry that it was like a crisp. So disappointing as we always look forward to breakfast when we’re away for the weekend.

Be aware that Breakfast is not included as I didn't feel it was transparent and expected it would be at the rate paid.

I was greatly disappointed, Having seen pictures it quotes of an upgrade I was hopeful, sadly old scratched furniture cannot be an upgrade the only new looking bit was the carpet and curtains. A tiered old corner shower and bathroom with dirty grout on the floor made me want to wear flip-flops in the small corner shower. may I add I paid a premium to get the quoted benefits of a Supreme double, I got a scratched old four-poster bed with a winter duvet in Late humid July, the room was pretty stuffy when I entered so clearly holds the heat. the be and other furniture are pretty outdated and really scratched!! I also booked on behalf of my brother for him a standard double which would mean a double bed. I thought a twin is 2 singles correct? As a fully grown over 6ft man he was presented with 2 singles, when I commented to reception I was told he could have said something and they would have moved him, but that was not really the point I booked in good faith a double. Fawlty Towers could be a good name for The Dales! Sad to place such a bad review but you asked!

This is the most pet-friendly hotel that I have ever experienced, which took away any stress of having our cocker spaniel with us. The room was large and well equipped; the bed was very comfortable; the dinner was excellent (which the staff served especially for us in the gazebo on the lawn outside our room); and the grounds were scenic. We will stay here again.

We have visited The Dales many times before and had Sunday lunches and afternoon teas. This time we decided to treat ourselves to an overnight stay. We had a lovely room with garden views. It was a very sunny day so we enjoyed a relaxed afternoon sitting in the beautiful peaceful tranquil gardens. The staff were very friendly and polite and the food was good also. Just marked one point down due to very soft pillows which are not to our liking. However we enjoyed our stay so much we have already booked again for later in the year. Would highly recommend this hotel.
