A former manor house dating back to the 18th century, this ivy-clad residence has been totally refurbished to provide the warmth of a country home with the style of a luxury hotel. Located in the centre of the attractive medieval town of Ennis, the hotel provides an ideal starting point from which to explore the famous attractions of Ireland's west coast.

The Burren, Cliffs of Moher, Ailwee Caves and Bunratty Folk Park are all within easy reach, whilst Connemara and the Aran Islands provide some spectacular options for day trips. Shannon International airport is just 20 minutes by car and both Limerick and Galway city are within 1 hour's drive.

The hotel has an atmospheric bar that is popular with locals and guests alike and often has live music at weekends. A wide range of drinks are served as well as an extensive and good value bar menu.

The hotel has two other dining options: the atmospheric Town Hall Restaurant serves delicious morning and afternoon teas with home-baked scones and cakes and then transforms into a highly-rated creative dining restaurant in the evening. The O'Brien Room dining room offers a fabulous menu of locally sourced, seasonal produce.

Staff excellent well trained and attentive. Breakfast was good and food in dining room lovely and well presented in a beautiful room. Bedroom was large but poorly lit. The windows had curtains but no nets so you had to close the curtains so no one could see in.Nowhere to put makeup on as poor light and bathroom although lovely had nowhere to put makeup down. Nowhere to put soap bag.

Only down side was the TV, they seem to have some system that dose not allow you to watch all the channels that are listed , ie i picked Film 4 and it would revert back to some rubbish channel and the same for other channels

The hotel itself is quite a historic building and I do like the atmosphere. The bathroom was modern and shower very good. However, no toilet roll holder and soap/shampoo dispensers not working.

Food was ok, nothing spectacular. Though my server was really pleasant and friendly.

Down side was the lift was broken and i had to haul baggage up stairs with no offer of help from reception. The heating in the room was not working and windows were not closing, which meant it was cold (even with a portable heater)

Had a wonderful stay at the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis. From the moment we arrived, everything felt welcoming and well looked after. The hotel is full of character, beautifully maintained, and the service was warm, professional, and attentive throughout.

The absolute highlight of our stay was the resident cat—incredibly friendly and affectionate, always ready for a cuddle. It added such a special, heart-warming touch to an already lovely experience.

A charming hotel with exceptional hospitality (and the sweetest furry host!). Would happily return and highly recommend it.

The Old Ground Hotel for service and comfort.

The staff at The Old Ground Hotel were simply amazing. The most wonderful hospitality was granted to us and it stands out in my experience across any hotel I’ve stayed in, in a long time. In fact I picked The Old Ground as I had stayed here for a family reunion exactly ten years ago. We arrived late and then could not drive through Ennis due to diversions. The desk staff not only guided us in through the town to their car park in real time, but managed to get us a very last minute and late evening table for 4 in their bistro, accommodating a tired and hungry family who were making a pit stop before flying from SNN the next am. The team made check in easy. Made sure we got all we needed at dinner including off menu options and then made sure we got checked in and up to our rooms. Similarly the next morning, a delicious breakfast, warm greetings and wonderful service! Outstanding staff and experience. We can’t stop talking about it. Thank you.

Based on reviews, and compared to other properties on our trip, I expected a bit more. There was no help with bags at reception and no elevator to help manage suitcases, so we had to navigate some steep stairs.

Dinner was delicious but breakfast was just ok. Service staff was hit or miss with some very delightful people and others that were almost dismissive.

The bathroom shower was downright hazardous as it required standing in a slippery bathtub - there was a runner mat but it slid around and was worse than nothing.

This property is centrally located with pedestrian only streets directly out the back door (the pub door is on the main road!) The beds were comfy and room was clean. We loved being greeted by OG, the cat! Staff were excellent. All in all, a great stay and base for exploring county clare!

I travel a lot and this is one of the nicer hotels I've stayed in. The bed was very comfortable, the room spacious. The breakfast was quite good and worth the money. If I had to nitpick I did try to get coffee separate from breakfast and it took three staff members and 20 minutes. The hotel is right by a lot of pubs, food, and other options. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

This cozy historical hotel took me back in time. The attention to detail and the attentive staff truly was a magical experience. The restaurant and pub on site was an added bonus.

The only negative which I assume has to do with the age of the hotel is the water pressure in the shower. One doesn’t need to wash their hair everyday— so no real problem. If you want to be treated with supreme kindness and feel like you are transported back in time, you must stay here.

The entire experience was excellent.... it was my first time in Ireland and I love being immersed in the old world charm, accommodating staff, excellent food in pub, convenience to everything in town and the well designed and comfortable rooms that had all of the comforts of home.....the lobby and surrounding areas were always filled with guests to either talk with or listen to music their !!. Hotel is beautiful, very old world, it’s everything an upscale, traditional Irish hotel should be. Staff were amazing, Veronica at the reception was especially professional, friendly and helpful. I’ve been visiting Ireland for over 2 weeks now and this hotel bar is the very first place with a proper barman. One that engages and has the Irish banter all the while serving you drinks in good time. Between Jason and Damian the couple of hours we were there flew. Thanks, it’s been a pleasure.
