Great stay at Castillo Ines Maria

We enjoyed a short stay at Castillo Ines Maria. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Our room was clean and comfortable and the breakfasts (which change daily) were delicious and filling.
The hotel is small and away from the main tourist sights, so pleasingly quiet and peaceful at night. It is a short walk to the walled city/centro historico, but be aware it can be difficult to cross the busy arterial road which passes between the street the hotel is on and the walled city.

We loved our stay at this adorable boutique hotel. It is well-run, safe, and has great amenities. The breakfast is outstanding, staff are extremely polite and helpful, and the room was perfect. It's a very quick walk to the old walled city of Cartagena, and it is actually nice to stay outside of that area to get a break from the constant bombardment of people trying to sell you something. The pool is beautiful, and the water appears to be ionizer-conditioned, which means it has less chlorine needed to keep it clean. It's nice to not smell like chlorine after swimming. The hotel also facilitated us getting some laundry done through a contract service and even stored our clean clothes when it hadn't arrived on time for our 2-day trip to the Rosario Islands.

We stayed at this hotel twice on our trip to Colombia. Overall the experience was pleasant. The location of the hotel is great — quiet neighborhood and a short walking distance to the walled city. The staff was friendly.

Unfortunately, my partner fell sick and had a rough night before our last day in Colombia. He spent almost the whole morning sleeping. So I requested a late checkout at noon, instead of at 11am. I was told we would pay 100,000 pesos (~$25) for the extra hour in the room. I also read on a card that storing luggages at the hotel would accumulate fees daily too.

We decided to just pack up and leave instead of paying $25. I can’t say if their policy on extra fees was right or wrong. It’s just something other travelers need to be aware of.

Best Vacay Spot in the Country!!!

HOLY MOLY!!!! We found a diamond in the rough, or should I say, a Diamond in plain view!!! This place is hands down the most comfortable, accommodating, enjoyable, and did I mention scenic hotel/inn that you can find in Cartagena. The staff and the view from the second and third floors are too die for!!! To begin the vacation Juan David and Andres welcomed myself and my fiance with open arms and the hospitality never ceased to stop. They constantly checked-in with us, they were never a stone's throw away when we needed help or advice on where to go, visit, eat or party. Elvis and Elmer were angels that saved us time and time again. They always made sure that we were well taken care of and always made sure that where ever we went, we were safe and not in harms way. The entire staff and property is like a HEAVEN OASIS! Our breaths' were constantly taken with every morning that passed. To say that we will return, IS AN UNDERSTATeMENT! The care, compassion, and family atmosphere that the entire property consistently provided is barn none. Can't wait to celebrate with OUR Cartagena family in the near future. Juan David, Andres, Elvis, and Elmer are the mainstays that will always have a special place in our hearts with how they made us feel welcomed and consistently comfortable with whatever request, question, and accommodation that we had. THIS IS OUR SECOND HOME AND WE ARE FOREVER GRATEFUL FOR EVERYTHING THAT THE STAFF AND HOTEL DID.

I spent just one night here and it was very comfortable. The staff was very helpful when I arrived very late from the airport. It's a pretty older house in an accessible neighborhood (although the immediate surrounding streets aren't very charming.) Breakfast in the courtyard (included) was very pleasant. One small complaint: there is no way to adjust the temperature of the water in the shower. It was hot -- it's the tropics! -- so I didn't mind. But it would be helpful to get that fixed. Overall -- good value for money.

The staff treated me as I was part of their Family member. I wish to express my gratitude to a few of the staff members as follows; Miguel, Elmer, Gregoria and Nichol. On my last day, a couple of staff members were on their day off for rest and were filled by new staff with the same atmosphere of Family Oriented members. Don't Stay Here!

My daughter and I checked in on Christmas Eve. We took a quick shower and quickly found out there was no hot water and the attached to the wall hair dryer didn't work. We told the front desk and someone came up and looked at our shower and sure enough, the water heater was broken as well as the hair dryer. They told us it would be fixed but they didn't know when because it was Christmas. Well, it was also Christmas for us. In the hospitality business, there are no holidays in my opinion. And, why wasn't this checked before? We stayed that night and found out that there were no blankets in the room either. There were only 5 guests in the hotel, yet there was no time to help us. However, the staff did manage to put on a Christmas Eve dinner complete with loud music until around 11 PM. We went out on Christmas for a walk and returned at 3 PM - our room had not been cleaned, and of course the hot water was not fixed, no blankets, no hair dryer, no hangers. And one more thing - although advertised as having a bar/lounge, there wasn't one. We decided to check out and find a better place. We agreed to pay for two nights and to cancel the other 5 nights. They did not refund any money and to the credit of Hotels.com, a representative advocated for us but the hotel refused to refund the 5 nights. Don't stay here and I suggest you read reviews on other sites. This hotel should be removed from Hotels.com.

Well, this boutique hotel exceeded our expectation mainly because of the attentiveness of the owner and her staff. Thank you so much Inez, Cindy, Julio, Juliana, Junior, Gregoria and anyone else whose name I didn't know. Kindness begets kindness. If you are looking for perfection and standards of the high end hotel chains, this is not the one for you. But if you are a global traveler and want to experience the flavor of Cartagenian colonial charm in a quiet, safe barrio close to the walled city, this is the place for you. The hotel is within a five min walk from a Hop on Hop Off bus stop which you can buy tickets for at the hotel and we highly recommend. Also,a private tour with Enrique, our guide, to Baru was a memorable day. A simple breakfast entree changed daily but you must like eggs, great fruit, good coffee; my favorites were the pancakes and the crepes.

The staff is unique, the location is unique, the owner is unique. This is perhaps one of the best b & b I have ever stayed in. The sea breeze is so refreshing. Our room was the Brisas (breeze) and it lived up to its name. A place where u can simply relax and feel at home. I will come back to Cartagena and will not stay anywhere else.

The owner of this hotel is an amazing woman. Sra. Ines and her staff were simply awesome. The place is gorgeous, the location is gorgeous, breakfast is different every day. This place was exactly what I was looking for. A relatively small hotel, nothing overly fancy, clean, very nice and quiet at night (found this hard to find most places in Colombia), helpful staff, decent breakfast, good internet. The hot water isn't the best, like many places but the rooms are big, clean and the shower is warm enough.

A gem just outside the walled city.

Charming old home with 7 rooms and a friendly staff. Very safe (you ring to be let in) and in a residential neighborhood with a couple of good restaurants nearby. At first we thought it a bit of a hot walk to get to the centro, but then we realized that there were cabs going by all the time and they take you there for 7000 ($2.50 USD). No haggling on fares here. Small pool, excellent and varied (included) breakfast served by the pool. Great tv service and good internet reception. Very quiet at night. Ocean view from upper patios. 1 block from a beach. Very recommended!

Loved the architecture and decor!

Beautiful historic home transformed into a hotel hundreds of feet from the ocean, and only a few minutes walk from the Rafael Nunez house and the old city. I really loved the architecture of the home, and tasteful decor. Really enjoyed the seclusion and quiet of the pool and patio area, which was where i spent most of my time during my working holiday. While i was there, they upgraded the internet connectivity with multiple providers and greater coverage throughout. As with any hotel, maintenance happened, but it was only a minimal inconvenience, and much appreciated. The AC unit stopped working, so they switched my room, and had a repairman there the next day to replace it. The staff was friendly, and dealt quite well with my incessant use of google translator. Being former military, i appreciated it when the staff reminded me about drinking unfiltered local water, and walking to and from the city at night in dimly lit areas, they even kept the front gate locked adding the seclusion and safety. The breakfasts were on par with most basic US hotel continental breakfasts. There are a few restaurants on the same street if that doesn't suffice.

I would highly recommend this hotel to others, and have!

Not a great experience, staff is not attentive

The actual hotel premises is nice, but not as advertised. First, it needs to be better maintained and cleaner. The tub was dirty and the towels were worn. We stayed in the suite, and it's really nice, high ceilings, nice big bathroom, just kind of worn and shoddy.

The staff is really the problem. They always had friends and their kids there, so if you need something, they make you feel uncomfortable, like you are inconveniencing them. You actually need a staff member to let you into and out of the front gate every time you are coming or going, so to track down a staff member and get them to actually assist you each time is kind of a pain. It was like they were enjoying themselves and we were intruding, so it wasn't pleasant to be on the terrace area or near the pool because that's where they always hang out.

On another note, it's close to the walled city, just a few minutes walk, but to get to the part of the walled city where things are happening, it's probably a 15-20 minute walk. This wasn't a problem for us because we don't mind walking, but they encourage you to take a taxi because they said it's not safe at night. We didn't take taxis and we were fine, but that's not exactly reassuring.

If, like us, you're not fluent in Spanish, I wouldn't recommend this place. It was difficult trying to communicate with the staff because of the language barrier.

Our stay was great. The staff really went out of their way to accomodate us. We felt like we had the house to ourselves. The room was small but very clean and organized. The only negative is the bed was noisy and needs to be upgraded. Otherwise, we enjoyed the stay and the location. I would stay there again and recommend it.

My Home away from Home

Hotel Boutique Castillo Ines Maria is an eloquent old home in a quite residential neighborhood a couple of blocks walk from outside of the Old Town Wall. It is an easy walk during the day, however I recommend a quick taxi ride after dark. The hotel was very clean and well maintained, the air units were new and cooled quickly, which was very necessary during the time of year we were there. All of the staff were friendly and extremely helpful in every way, we felt like family before we left. We enjoyed a great breakfast that was a choice of eggs or Arepas and fresh fruit daily. We will be back again and again.

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Ines. Our hosts were very friendly and welcoming even offering is towels for the beach. The location is a short 7-10 minute walk into the walled city and while the neighborhood is decent I would just take care after ours. The location felt super safe as the hosts need to buzz you in and then come to the gate to let you in. The best parts were the A/C and the breakfast which is made for you and served on a beautiful patio next to the pool. I would highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Cartagena!

First two nights in Cartagena

Great boutique hotel. Only 4 rooms - we were in two because we each booked a night separately. One was grander than the next. Staff incredibly friendly but not a word of english so communicating in our limited spanish was quite difficult and led to a number of misunderstandings. And although it is located a couple blocks outside the walled city, we felt safe walking around (with the exception of late at night which one shouldn't do anywhere). There's also the Rafael Nunez house/museum on the same street one can visit and a great restaurant as well next door. When we left a couple items of clothing, they called the next hotel we were at as well as emailed. Overall, very positive experience and would stay again (with a spanish dictionary though!)

Quality Boutique Hotel in Cartagena.

After an initial mix up regarding the type of room requested, this was a very pleasant stay in a hotel with a family atmosphere, great service and very pleasant surroundings. Would we book this hotel again? Yes, we felt it was great value for money and much better than the 'anonymous' chain type hotels. Well done to everyone at Hotel Castillo Ines Maria!

Excellent place!

The service was superb, the cook even prepared "arepas" which were not in the menu. The place is very nice and cosy. We forgot some stuff which was found and returned to us. The only "minus" is that to get to the city center you have to walk along a quite lonely street befor crossing the wall and there is no access to taxis as often as in a more central place.

Great hotel and truly great value

Amazing customer service, beautiful historic building (full of marble) and good location - highly recommended.

We stayed for for 4 nights in March 2014 and weren't disappointed.

It's a 5 min walk from the old town (you can see the walls from the house), but that means it's near the beach, the rooms are better and there's a pool.

The neighbourhood it's in is totally safe, it's full of other old colonial buildings and modern penthouses.

Facilities are excellent, clean + well maintained, and the scrambled eggs for breakfast are really good!

Bottom-line, for the price (Cartagena is more expensive than most of Colombia) and the care that the staff afforded us, I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Abbiamo prenotato in questo hotel due notti spinti dalle ottime recensioni che ha sui vari siti.
L’hotel è a poche centinaia di metri dalle mura di Cartagena ed il centro si raggiunge facilmente.
Il personale è molto gentile e disponibile, sempre sorridente. Purtroppo però la struttura necessiterebbe di una rinnovo completo: i mobili sono vecchi (ovviamente è un’opinione personale ma non incontravano minimamente i nostri gusti), la stanza era pulita ma con pareti scrostate, tra la zona lavandino e il letto c’erano al massimo due metri privi di porta. Inoltre la zona wc e quella doccia erano in comunicazione con la zona letto poiché la loro porta non raggiunge il soffitto.
Non abbiamo usufruito della piscina poiché anche quella si presenta male ed al nostro arrivo uno dei due lettini giaceva rotto.
Per la colazione non si ha scelta: uova. Anche questa decisamente squallida, viene servita nella zona comune adiacente alla piscina dove si muore di caldo e con gli uccelli che beccano sul tavolo.
Sicuramente ha prezzi inferiori rispetto agli hotel nelle mura ma questo non giustifica lo stato di decadenza in cui vengono accolti gli ospiti.

Muy mal rato pasé. Hubo un problema con mi reserva y hotel me recibió mal y Hotels tampoco me ayudó. Cuando llegas te obligan a firmar tres paginas con todas las prohibiciones. Pareciera que te estuvieran recibiendo de caridad. La relación calidad precio no es óptima. No me dieron factura por mi pago, me dijeron que la enviarían por correo y no lo hicieron. Cobran 3% adicional por pagar con tarjeta, que el último día me regresaron y me hicieron firmar carta. No me parecen transparentes.

For et fantastisk hotell!! Så deilig å bo på et lite hotell og slipp disse gigablokkene. Vi følte nesten at vi bodde i et hus, tipp topp tommel opp for kjempe service. Gode råd om hvor vi kunne spise og hva vi kunne gjøre, tok seg tid til å snakke med oss og var vennlige alle sammen. Vi hadde et stort rom med både takvifte og aircondition som er utrolig godt å ha i varmen! Stranda ligger like ved så vi sto opp tidlig kasta på badetøy og inntok stranda fra morgenen av og kveldene brukte vi i gamlebyen. En utrolig vakker by fylt med mennesker, lukter, musikk, opplevelser og mat! Hotellet gjorde oppholdet vårt komplett og jeg garanterer at vi skal tilbake til samme hotell til neste år!

Espectacular, la atención, diligencia del personal para orientarte, la habitación hermosa y muy limpia, el desayuno en el balcón un detalle único... volveré con toda seguridad, recomiendo preguntar por el taxi (que en realidad es una camioneta) del hotel, el Sr Enrique.. de lo mejor, un guía turístico honesto, amable y con un servicio de lujo.. nos hizo el recorrido del Castillo de San Felipe a la popa y el resto de sitios interesantes de Cartagena la tarde del domingo antes de llevarnos al aeropuerto.. Het personeel is erg behulpzaam.
