A beautiful heritage hotel in the heart of Salzburg’s Old Town, with an unbeatable location that makes it easy to explore all the attractions of this incredibly historic and picturesque city.

Our room was very clean and comfortable, although it felt a little cramped. As an older property, the hotel lacks some of the amenities found in more modern luxury hotels, such as a fitness center, pool, bar, and smart TV.

The staff were polite and professional, but we found they offered limited local insight and few recommendations for discovering some of the town’s lesser-known or more unique experiences.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciated the charm, character, and exceptional location of the Goldener Hirsch. A wonderful choice for those seeking an authentic Salzburg experience, though at this price point we had expected a somewhat higher level of amenities and personalized service.

Convenient to shops, food, and activities. We parked in a parking garage close to the hotel, but after checking in, we found that there was another garage that gave discounts to the guests. It was not mentioned before our visit, so it was a hassle. Our Expedia reservation wasn't showing when we arrived, so that was also a hassle. After some time, everything worked out, and we were free to explore the beautiful city. It is a gorgeous, well-cared-for old building with a cool layout and decor. There is a restaurant, bar, and outside dining. The room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was great. The building was going through exterior renovations, so the windows could not open. The a/c was woefully worthless (the temp was set and unmovable), and bc there wasn't a fan, the air sat still in the room and bathroom. Towels were available in a wardrobe in the hallway (this was great)! Would we stay again? Probably, but we will bring a fan. :)

Gorgeous hotel with the friendliest staff who are very helpful and accommodating. Built in music/speakers in the bathroom was cool, bed very cozy, a little too much furniture stuffed into the room so had to move around to accommodate our luggage, but overall a lovely place to stay over Christmas 🎄excellent location, restaurant on site was superb as was the breakfast each morning.

Mine is clearly a minority view. The friends I'm traveling with were very satisfied with their room and many people call this their favorite hotel in the world. I tried to catalogue what was wrong with my experience and ran out of Characters; so let me just telegraph it--1) arrived at 3pm; thirty minute wait to \"find\" me a clean room. 2) Room was still being cleaned when I was brought to it. 3) Room crammed with furniture dying to be tripped over. I moved some against the walls after a few bruised shins. 4) Room was hot and stuffy, but housekeeping thoughtfully turned the air conditioning off during \"turndown\" and raised the thermostat as high as it would go. It took two hours to make the room bearable again. 5) Internet didn't work. Problem could only be solved by checking me out and then back in. 6) Bar lady rude. 7) Breakfast either 49E for a tired buffet or 30E for \"continental.\" For 30E I got one cup of coffee (I was charged for the 2nd one), a useless (to me) plate of ham and cheese, and a stale roll and tasteless croissant. I'm sure this all sounds petty, but this is a \"luxury\" hotel charging $750/night. You kind of expect better. My favorite hotel in the world is the Sacher in Vienna. Not ostentatious, not fancy, just utterly impeccable in every way. I never think about the money at the Sacher; at this place that was all I could think about.

The service was excellent! From front desk, bell hops, room service attendants and even the person who oversees the breakfast hours are all incredibly superb.

The room was clean and well thought out.

The only thing I can think of is you may need to request a roll away if you have a party of three and staying in the junior suite. I mistakenly thought there was a pull out sofa but the bed was big enough for us family of 3.

We also had our breakfast included during our stay and it was delish!

The hotel is close to everything. I was sad to leave because we were treated so kindly and they really went above and beyond.

Thank you Hotel GH team for making us feel so welcome!! A across the board.

I have stayed at the Goldener Hirsch for the past 30 years The hotel and its staff never fail. Charming and comfortable, it is located in the midst of an active tourist area but absolutely quiet inside and completely safe outside. The staff listen carefully and exceed every request. Our room was beautiful, we received a complimentary upgrade and fresh fruit bowl, there was turn down service each night with chocolates and bottled water. The linens were divine. Tradition with a modern touch. Excellent service from arrival to departure all staff were amazing. We do travel a lot around the world and have been to many fantastic locations, but this hotel easily qualifies for us in the top 20.
The hotel just reopened after a long rebuild and I was impressed on how they kept traditional elements through and through but high-tech when it comes to the technical functionalities.
The room service was in exact in time as promised and the whole menu very delicious. You don’t get a better Wiener Schnitzel anywhere in town. All in all definitely 5 stars.

This historic hotel is in a great location in the old town of Salzburg. That being said, there are many other more reasonably price hotels that offer more to their customers and are close to town. Hotel accommodations and staff were fine, but I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to friends, and wouldn’t stay again myself.

I can't fault the Goldener Hirsch

We had four wonderful days here mainly due to the excellence of the Goldenere Hirsch. We ate two meals in the Herzl restaurant and two room service meals because we were not too well. Each experience was impeccable. Above all the staff were very helpful and found us a chemist's prescription the middle of the night. We felt always in good hands and the hotel was as cosy as it would be staying with friends.

We booked the Goldener Hirsch for a long weekend in Salzburg. The location is superb - in the middle of the old town. The staff were delightful - unfailingly helpful from start to finish. We arrived well before the check in time, but were shown straight to our upgraded room. The building is old, but the rooms were very comfortable, the bathroom well enough equipped, and all was spotless. Air con and WiFi both worked well. The only lack was the ability to make coffee! Breakfast was very good, but pricey, and we opted to breakfast at one of the many cafes. When it came to check out, we were allowed to check out late, with no questions asked...
So, if you want a minimalist modern hotel experience this is not the place for you. If however you want to experience old fashioned hospitality in the centre of Salzburg, the Goldener Hirsch is guaranteed to deliver.

Right on the main shopping street, but still quiet. Excellent variety of coffee houses and places to eat close by. Salzburg is a small city, so most things are less than a 10 minute walk. The Salzburg Card is worth the money. Euros 33 for 48 hours of attractions.

We were warmly welcomed in this quaint and very old building - 16th C. - and were immediately taken aback by the lovely lounges and other public spaces. Our room was spacious and with all the modern amenities. The staff was very attentive and from day 1 remembering our small desires and preferences. We had arranged already quite a few things ahead by email with the concierge and it went all very smoothly.

A very happy vacation

My experience with the hotel was wonderful. I had never been there before but I loved all of it, from the decor to the service to the food to the location. I recommend it highly and I’m sad that it will not be open next year at this same time. I wouldn’t consider going anywhere else. My only complaint is that my room was very hot but I solved that issue by opening the windows. This would not hold me back from going there again.

If you are visiting Salzburg- This hotel is the place to stay! The location is probably the best part. If you are accustomed to high end hotels, bare in mind this is a very old hotel. The facade dates back to the 12th century and it is just magical in a very Hansel and Gretel kind of way. The service is impeccable and the Austrians are very welcoming.
Also- great for families! We tracel with 3 children and the family rooms are perfect! Inquire about rooms 47 and 48 - they connect and are huge!

The accommodations were fabulous. Right down in the middle of Old Salzburg and the staff was spectacular! Make sure to have the Concierge help coordinate a private tour. It wasn't that much more expensive than the public ones and we probably saved money by doing 3 tours in one day!

Character hotel in the midst of atmospheric city

The hotel is in an excellent position, right in the middle of a main shopping street and minutes from Mozart's birthplace but this does make it a little difficult for the taxis to reach the front entrance as it is really a pedestrianised street. The hotel is in a listed building and the style is cosy and old but the bathrooms are updated and the service is excellent. We arrived just before midday and our room was ready. The breakfast was great - plenty of choice. The staff were extremely helpful with all our requests.

Lovely Hotel in the Old Town

The Hotel Goldener Hirch is a pretty old hotel in the old town. We had a lovely welcome and the staff were very friendly and informative. The room was large with a very comfortable large bed and sitting area. The room was very clean and had all toiletries and hairdryer and everything else that you would require. Our room was at the front of the hotel so was a little noisy early in the morning when they were cleaning the street outside.

Lovely Old-Fashioned Hotel

The hotel is in a renovated historical building and full of old-time charm: the tiny elevator feels like a trunk (by the way, it does not reach the very top floor and we walked up), the zigzagging stairs make the building almost a maze, the distress looking furniture and old style wood door/lock all brings people back centuries. All these made our nine-year daughter very excited. Our room (exclusive room) was spacious even the sofa bed opened for our daughter. There was A LOT storage space. The staff there were professional and enthusiastic as well. Everything was smooth and the entire stay was very pleasant.

I really enjoy the hotel. They charge €20 for a dog in the room. Large bedroom for Europe. Close to everything.

Four days in Salzburg

We stayed at this hotel en route to a ski holiday, everything's about it was first class...surroundings, ambience, food, and especially the helpful staff. I highly recommend Hotel Goldener Hirsch.
