Utter garbage and shocking treatment

Shocking treatment by both the hotel and hotels.com

We were treated with utter contempt by the venue who after much complaining refunded some of our money, very small percentage.

Hotels.com also refused to refund the rewards used even though they mis sold the services and standard of the hotel.

Hotels.com service even worse than the hotel, as a loyal customer with in excess of 1000 booking over 10 years I am disgusted.

Both should be ashamed of themselves

Excellent Hotel in Santander

Our ferry was late in and we didn’t get to the Hotel until about 11pm, we had booked a meal in the restaurant in advance and the staff waited for us a cooked us a meal, which was excellent and the staff were fantastic they couldn’t do enough for us.
The room was roomy and set out well and a comphy bed, when we put the TV there was no English speaking channels a bit disappointing but not the end of the world.
The breakfast was excellent and value for money, this Hotel was very nice and would stay again and spend a few days in Santander in the future, we would recommend this hotel excellent.

Hotel Sercotel Suite Palacio Del Mar

The location of the hotel was excellent with s short walk to the bus station and the beach.
However, the hotel is a bit tired looking especially the bar and dining area. Also the staff in the bar were often very difficult to find and breakfast was very overpriced and very basic.
Overall we would certainly return to Santander as it is a beautiful city but would definitely give this hotel a wide berth.

Huge room, great value

We decided to get away for a weekend and booked this hotel in Santander. The room was much bigger than we expected for what we paid and the bathroom had a sizeable shower and bathtub. We didn't have breakfast there but there are a few nice cafes around. The staff were great and we felt very welcome! Would definitely recommend this hotel ... We went in February but it must be great in the summer!

Santander is lovely city to stay in.

Lovely 6 days. Beautiful beaches and walks. City of Santander very interesting and very Spanish, not much spoken English which was a bit of a problem. Tourist office only dealt with Santander and not surrounding coast or area which was a bit of a problem, until we worked out where we thought we wanted to go to and found the appropropriate bus timetable at the bus station. We had no car. We found visiting Bilbao for the Guggenheim ok, but you needed to book the bus a day or so ahead, as all the early buses (9.00 am.) were full and the next one with some spaces, not many, was at 11.00 a.m. a bit later than we wanted to go, but it worked out ok and was a great museum to visit.

We stayed in a junior suite and it was excellent the space was fab the only downside is the room was a little tired nothing a coat of paint wouldn't sort

The balcony could do with a sweep n clean the room would benefit from air conditioning

Hotel in desperate need of revitalisation.

The hotel is very dated and dull. It definitely needs renovated and brought into 2015.
Room had mould on the ceiling and all over the curtains, the bed was uncomfortable and the hallway stank of cigarette smoke even though it was supposedly non smoking.
We tried to use the bar once but waited 20mins on a member of staff before giving up.
Staff we encounterd were pleasant and hotel is close to Santander centre.
Wouldn't stay again.

Night after the ferry trip

Great size room

Hotel was simple enough to find after a delayed overnight crossing. Staff really helpful and allowed us to squeeze 3 motorbikes into one parking space. Breakfast was everything we needed and the scrambled eggs renewed as soon as we asked. Room was really spacious and perfect for us. Overall great value.

The hotel is in a fairly nice location, as it is only a few minutes away from the beach. It is also about a 20 minute walk away from the center. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The room was nice and spacious (separate living room area with couch, table and tv). There is also another tv in the bedroom. There is a wonderful gym located nearby. As a guest of the hotel, you can go to the gym for free. The only negative about this hotel is that the buffet breakfast was extremely overpriced and did not offer many food options.

Hotel in el Sardinero district of Santander

We specifically booked this hotel as we were attending a game in the stadium just down the road so, for us, it was ideally located. Others may wish to stay more centrally as we have in the past. The area is very nice with the beaches very close and in Summer would be ideal. The centre is easy to reach via bus and the walk along the coastal path into the centre is very pleasant.

Fantastic Rooms

We booked this Hotel as a result of the Comments and found that when we arrived it appeared from the outside in need a bit of a clean but on going into the reception we found that it was very nice indeed. Our Junior Suite was huge and is really worth a visit. The buses into the centre are a couple of minutes walk and run frequently.

Hotel is a bit dated and ready for a revamp. We booked two rooms and were initially given one on 1st floor and one on 5th floor -would have been nicer to be allocated closer rooms. Door lock broken on one room so one room was subsequently reallocated so we ended up closer together after all. Second room was a suite so probably an upgrade -this room had a strange smell and wasn't spotless. Receptionist on check in pompous and rude -my daughter speaks Spanish and he interupted her mid sentence and started speaking in English. Option for eating out of the hotel quite limited in this area. Walking distance to beach but not city centre

Not what was advertised.

Therooms are large suites -- but very poorly designed so that the bathroom was cramped and the sofa and TV were separated by thirty feet and a table and chairs -- totally lacking in any charm or character. The hallways carpets were tattered and stained,

The front office staff had only rudimentary command of English.

The public rooms are -- well \"African kitch\" would be a generous characterization. The lobby was filled with toreador suit displays and graphics of wild animals; The bar/ lounge walls were filled with taxidermy that included elephant heads and zebra skins and antelope heads; And the dining room had a solid wall of mirrors and truly ugly LED starburst chandileers.

The breakfast had minimal selection compared to other hotels we stayed in with four star ratings.

Both elevators broke down during the course of our two day stay, at one point leaving no operating elevator service.

The location is ten minutes by taxi from the downtown and a ten minute walk to the northern end of the beach - not particularly convenient.

This is by no means a four star hotel. Three stars would be generous.

This was a super hotel - the rooms were so spacious! The furniture is a bit outdated but very comfortable and clean. The lobby smelled of smoke but NOT the rooms. Parking was tight but managed a spot on the street next to hotel. Would stay here again.

Sercotel Palacio del Mar - our stay

Although not too close to the town centre for shopping, the football stadium is only 2 minutes walk. We were amazed that for almost the same cost of staying at an Ibis Hotel we were provided with such a large deluxe room.

The staff although not fluent in English were very helpful and friendly. The restaurant was closed for the evening but the menu for the day and bar food was all freshly cooked and very good. We would definitely stay there again if visiting or passing through Santander.

Most important as we were trying to sort out our business at the same time - free WIFI and no hassle

Poor Service for a 4-star Hotel

Pros: Good size room, beautiful, spacious bathroom; menu of the day in dining room an excellent value, reception desk staff very helpful with touring arrangements, etc.
Cons: No English-speaking channel on TV; no iron or ironing board available; bathroom amenities never replenished (ie one bottle of bath gel for my 4 day stay); no coffee-maker or teapot available in hotel room; although hotel offered a free drink in its hotel bar at check-in, I never could use it because it would appear the bartender didn't \"notice\" a single woman in the bar; \"pool\" offered was not one where you could lounge around, just a pool at a gymnasium off the property; could not seem to ever reach reception after 10:00 for a wake-up call; neighborhood has very few restaurants within walking distance (and the one I did patronize was over-priced and served the worst meal I had on my 1-month trip); location is very far from central and historical city

Downtime at the beach

We had a short, three night stay here for our honeymoon. We wanted to stay at a nice hotel near a nice beach, so overall we were pleased. I would recommend this hotel as I thought it was a good value overall. The only bad things were that the air conditioning wasn't very cool, and that the breakfast wasn't very good for the money. For the price, this is a good place to stay as it is clean and as it's staff offers good service.

We arrived realizing that we had definitely booked the wrong hotel as no nearby restaurants and having had fantastic cuisine in Nazare, Coimbra, Oporto, Vigo and Corunia, this was a total let down until we managed to get some great recommendations on the last night, need a taxi though!
The Bar & Restaurant Service was appalling, 30 minutes to wait for drink and dinner in the restaurant with one member of staff was ridiculous charges for small dinner, do not even mention the € 13.00 a day for parking and € 11.00 per person for continental breakfast-expect to pay € 22.00 for full breakfast, forget it, not the Reid´s Palace Hotel!!!
Would never ever stay here again, no free water in the room-compared to AC Hotels which offer daily complimentary soft drinks, his place is overcharging and out of here, living on their past reputation and family members running the hotel, so no proper Management. Do not recommend at all-Sorry!

Great place to stay in santander

Location of this hotel is great. It's within a few minutes walk to the beach and is near one of the main bus stops that will take you into the city center. The cafeteria/bar below the hotel is very convenient and the staff was very helpful. My room had a large patio with views of the sea. I would stay here again the next time I am in Santander.

We stayed in Palacio del Mar in early September 2009. Our room was not ready when we arrived at 11am. We were told by a friendly receptionist that the room would be ready by 1pm so we went to the beach, which is only about 300m away. the room was not ready on our return so we had to wait additional half hour during which we checked Santander's attractions using a Google machine in the reception area-very convenient. Because we had to wait for the room, the hotel granted us free access to Internet during our 2 day stay. The wait was worth it though. The room was huge, stylish and very clean, so was the bathroom. The only bad point (not major though)-there is not a single English tv station. We had Eurosport in other hotels we stayed in during our holiday in Northern Spain. Overall an excellent stay!

Huge rooms, good location for the beach

If you are loking for a hotel close to sardinero beach, then this is great. Large rooms - with separate lounge area. A bit of a walk into the town - but some bars and restaurants close by. Balconies didn't have any views (or any furniture!) - but large sitting area inside made up for that. Can't comment on the food - as booked room only and went out to a local cafe for breakfast.

Great, comfortable hotel convenient for the ferry

Was really surprised at the size of the rooms - the room we got was HUGE, with table, chairs, sofa, space to run around and a great balcony. Really clean and comfortable. It's a good job I love purple, because the decor is pretty much lilac all the way through, and slightly seaside-themed which was interesting. ^_^ Breakfast was OK - not a massive choice, mainly because the hotel seemed quite empty when we were there, but what we had was fresh and there was plenty to be had. I'd definitely visit this hotel again on another trip driving through Spain. It's a nice starting off/finishing place, and just down the road from the ferry port. Good value.

El hotel está muy viejo y además me pareció horrible su decoración. Un montón de cabezas de animales muertos disecados, tapicería de los sofás he ha de piel de animales como cebras, panteras, etc... y un montón de trajes de toreros en la parte de recepción. Se ve que no sienten ningún amor por los animales. Muy sadico, yo no vuelvo en mi vida.
