Upon checking in we learned that we had to pay for parking which was not noted on the website and which in our opinion should be free given the price of the room. You had to download an app on your phone to provide you payment information and pay for the parking. We did not wish to use the app so the check in desk person, Ruby, went to a different computer and completed the parking payment process and we then received a text that the parking time had begun. When we extended our stay one more night, that process had to be done again for the new night and we checked twice with the desk clerk and they said it had been done. However several hours after we checked out we received a link that "there was an issue with the payment process" and to update the information. Not knowing if the link was legitimate and given we did not put in the payment info, we did not click on the link. Obviously the hotel did not do it properly.
Much ado to park 50 ft. from the hotel entrance. Our room was clean but the carpet was ragged in places, the upholstery on the desk chair was peeling off, you could hear any activity beside or below you, whether talking or bathroom functions, the internet was constantly down and had to be rebooted, and coffee in the morning for guests was only there 1 morning out of the 3 we were there. With the exception of Ruby at the check in desk and the cleaning staff, this stay at Hawthorne was beyond disappointing and we would not recommend it.

Old historic property. Walls are very thin (at least in my room) and we could hear the girls next door giggling and carrying in and then thier alarm in the morning at 6am which woke us up. Staff is very friendly and nice. Bed was comfortable. Also, parking is not free as stated in thier website. It is $11 a day.

The location was great, the beds were comfy, the vibe was cool & it was clean... That's the extent of my positive review...
On site restaurant is very pricey, they didn't tell us until the last day that there was an ice machine on the floor (we kept going to the desk to get ice).. The carpet in the main areas - specifically on the 2nd floor where we were- is wrinkled & stained. They were out of coffee pods for the in room coffee makers (& 1 pod makes 1 small cup) & there's no other coffee available on site- unless you want to go to the restaurant & pay extra for it...
Basically, it's just a clean, convenient, dated place to sleep.

This is a historic hotel in a great location, however it is worn out and in need of a major upgrade. Interior units also need a total refit. The floors are not even close to level. Used the Elevator and noticed it has not been inspected and certified in a year.
Would not stay there again until they update it.

Disappointing. During our stay - 2 nights - we had to kill no fewer than 8 stink bugs in our room, which seemed to be infested with them.
No smart TV. Housekeeping was a disappointment. We received clean towels, but that was it. Coffee wasn’t replaced, coffee cups weren’t replaced…
We had to go in search of them.
For the price, we expected a much better experience than this!

The hotel is beautiful inside and very nicely decorated for the holidays. Front desk agent introduced us to the hotel as a first time guest. Expedia or hotel is miss advertising complimentary breakfast. It is not! Dissapointed. No adjustment on room bill. The bar and restaurant area is very nice and service is great. Hotel room is very spacious and bed is nice.

Super nice staff! Hotel parking is an issue, unless you don't mind climbing over a concrete partition. Our room was spacious and clean (except mirrors in bathroom had lots of hairspray buildup on them and some washcloths/towels had "grungy stains" on them). Worse part of our nightly stay was dealing with lots of traffic noise due to loud vehicles racing around downtown roadsways, alleyways & parking
garages.

This is my third stay in the last 9 years, and I was disappointed that the property is now charging for parking. It really is a unique hotel with character, and apparently, the parking fee is something the new owners have implemented. It frustrates me when a hotel attempts to nickel and dime its patrons. Not sure I'll be staying again.

This is the coolest hotel! We just needed a quick place to stay for a meeting in Rome the next morning, but this hotel was so much more than we expected! Absolutely gorgeous and unique and our room was huge! My husband said this morning: I think this is the most comfortable bed and bedding I've slept on in a long time! And we have travelled most of the last 5 months since he has retired. Amazing hotel that we will look forward to returning to when we are back in Rome! Highly recommend!

Room & property were clean and in the perfect location! There were so many things close by, just a 2-10 minute walk away as well as a nice little path by the river. My only complains would be that the pillows on the bed were SO uncomfortable, to the point where my neck was almost completely stiff by the end of our stay, the couch was very stiff & uncomfortable also, there were no silveware of any kind and we had a suite with a kitchenette so that would have been much appreciated. Aside from those things though, this was a great stay and very welcoming staff. I would stay were again, just with my own pillow! stuff,

Room 100 should not be a room for OVERPAYING CUSTOMERS. It looks out into a sitting room with the freeway within arms reach. Sou dedlike we weresleeping beside the interstate. Only room on that side on ground floor. I spoke others and no one paid the high price that I paid. I will not be back. Stayed there 6 years ago and loved it. Very unsatisfied with my stay. One couple stayed 4 night for the same price I paid for 2 nights.

I really enjoyed my stay here. The extended stay was clean, great area, lots of space, great restaurant and bar area. The only issues I had was the room was not soundproof, I could hear the people beside very clear in the bathroom, the pipes are exposed, and the sink took a long time getting hot.
Positives include: make-up face clothes, extra hanger provided as I asked, bathrobes, and friendly staff.

Noisy room #100.

The room we stayed in was #100. It was about 60 feet from a many lane road over the Oostanaula river. There was heavy traffic even throughout the night. It was hard to get any sleep. When mentioning it at checkout, the clerk said she couldn’t sleep in any of the rooms. The hotel may want to invest in ways to buffer some of the noise.

Great histoical gem

This hotel is a historical gem and so much a part of the city. Every corner opened up an opportunity to enjoy the building former self. Service was friendly, professional and accommodating. The bar/ restaurant was extremely enjoyable and obviously a hangout for locals.
I will definitely be back.

4. Skylight is horriblyplaced over the bed; the shade machine is so loud that if anyone uses it in the middle ofthe night it can be heard in other rooms and wakes you up

7. Hotel advertises breakfast but there isn't and there are no options given.
8. Everything close by doesn't open until after 9am so finding breakfast is hard

We came in for one evening to see a show. This was a convenient spot to stay as we could walk to the show and have dinner and drinks just a block over. Lots of variety to choose from. While we had high expectations based on a recommendation, we were disappointed in some areas. Staff was great! The place was clean and the bed was made lovely. The pillows were so uncomfortable I couldn't sleep - I knew now why so many were bringing their own! This was a cause for a restless night's sleep. Some areas that could easily be updated, rusting vent covers and throw away rusting hand mirrors. Having nothing would have been better. The mirror on the bathroom was so distorted I couldn't see myself. So while small, it makes for such a difference when someone is staying in an unfamiliar space. Overall the building is a lovely attempt to save and reuse an older property.

This property was very unique in that it is formerly an old warehouse. The brick
walls, original machinery and old furniture gave it an historical feel. The facility was very clean; however, the carpet and rooms need an ugrade.The restaurant had an inviting feel and resembled an old speak easy. We were disappointed that the greenery on the second and the third floors had not been maintained and was no longer in place. It one of the things that drew us to choose the Hawthorne. Overall, our stay was pleasant and there are several nice neeting rooms, lounge areas and a gym. Our biggest disappointment that there was no greenery as shown on the website pictures.

The building on the inside is incredibly beautiful, and had a lot of cool things to check out such as a restaurant and spa. When we checked in, the staff was super friendly and even gave us a free upgrade to a suite, just because there weren’t many guests at the time. You can walk around downtown Rome from this hotel, and it’s right by the river. I’d definitely come back to this hotel and stay again.
