The hotel grounds and spa were beautiful
However, the room: decor, comfort and usability let’s down the hotel and thus the experience

The WiFi in the room was patchy and the tv only had Italian speaking programs and no option for subtitles in a chosen language. This coupled with the poor WiFi meant that on the 3 rainy days of our trip you are limited for things to do sadly

We had a wonderful stay here for 8 nights while visiting family members local to Erba. The property is beautiful and well maintained. The staff was very helpful and courteous. We especially loved the pool and spa, the breakfast and the memory foam pillows. We would stay here again!

We chose the hotel for the charming Castle atmosphere, to relax at the pool and sleep well.
The pool was closed for renovation (stupid idea to renovate a pool end of June!), there was EVERY NIGHT of our stay a super loud wedding taking place just literally meters away from our room. We couldn't sleep at night. We went crazy with the loud music.
Last but not least, when we booked the hotel, seeing the great outdoor area it has we were expecting that breakfast would be outdoor in the garden. Well, no. It is down in a small cave and the breakfast was horrible. The Management is really doing everything against logic.
As it is a very expensive hotel, it is clearly not worth it.
I wouldn't recommend it

This was one of the most beautiful, unique, and extraordinary places I have stayed and I travel a lot. Built as an armory in the 1300s.. then a private residence with a pink palazzo. Just stunning. Lovely, clean and unique rooms. Beautiful grounds. Excellent accommodating staff.

When we arrived they gave us room 207 which was a box room at the top of stairs with no window to see out--depressing. I showed them pics on Hotels.com of room we had booked--which was nothing like the one given-and they then found us a much better room. Staff were helpful and apologetic but it took us some time to settle down!!

Lovely stay with my family

Beautiful room, grounds and pool. We stayed with our daughter for one night and it was really lovely for children too. Drinks at the bar were unnecessarily expensive with the usual Tuscan bottles and prices in the restaurant. Restaurant was nice not outstanding but lovely location and outdoors which in current times is reassuring. We would definitely stay again, super close to Como too.

Very nice hotel, friendly staff and a pretty setting. The pillows are on the firm side, but I slept just fine, it's a fortress so you could fight a small Calvary and not hear a thing in the room next door.

Great historical architecture and story

Pretentious and indifferent staff. Very little English spoken. Restaurant food quality good, but a bit expensive and not as good as the almost comically stuffy wait staff think it is.

I went in December, so the pool area wasn't open. Other than enjoying the castle architecture and wondering how they did all that, and thinking about the history, don't expect much to do without getting in a car.

Rooms, hallways, not up to USA safety standards - poorly (or not) lit hallways. Easily missed steps in dark areas. Broken light in bedroom hanging by hot wires.

Still, the castle itself is really something to see and stay in despite all of the above. Toss up whether I'd stay there again.

Alright hotel, nice grounds, not the best location

The hotel grounds are lovely, the room was shabby, the receptionist was rude on the first day, the rest of the staff were nice. We asked could we have a room with a bath, and despite the booking saying bath/shower we were told we hadn't booked at \"that level\". Which seemed odd - they potentially don't like bookings from hotels.com because we used rewards points. The outdoor pool is nicely located but probably not swept out very often.
It's quite a far drive from the scenic parts of Lake Como.

Just as good as the first visit.

This was my second visit to the Castello di Casiglio and I was not disapppointed. They staff were just as friendly as last time and the breakfast just as good. I was given a lovely large room but due to it's size and the position on the corner of the building it was a little cold for my comfort, although others would probably have not found it so. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed due to a special function but we were directed to a very nice little pizzeria only a couple of hundred metres down the road.
My only regret was that I left my favourite headband in the room and it is too far to return to collect it. Maybe next year!

good hotel close to Lakes

we chose to stay here to be close to the Lakes and Milan as were flying from Malpensa. With GPS help in the car we managed to find OK. the hotel is in beautiful settings and has lovely views. can't see the Lakes but it is only a 20min drive to Como and to other areas around the Lakes. Driving around the Lakes is an experience with very narrow, windy roads. we were very glad to be staying in a relatively easy driving to and from hotel with parking.
the twin room isn't as nice as a double room- the beds were too close together so not a lot of space. the bathroom was spacious. Breakfast was lovely with freshly made omelettes. Staff were helpful

Wonderful castle vacation

We loved the hotel which was conveniently close to the wedding venue of our friends and it is conveniently close to Como Lake. The hotel is cosy and gives a relaxing and holiday feeling. The staff is nice and helpful so big thank you to the staff.

Beautiful castle hotel.

Beautiful castle hotel. A bit far from the go-to places of Como and the lake towns, so a car is mandatory, but good place for a romantic, get-away for a few days. Buildings are old, so lacking some of the top-quality amenities found in newer spots, like HVAC system in bedrooms could use an upgrade. But overall very nice place and stay.

Beautiful countryside gem!

Not so easy to find, particularly if relying on Google maps or the posted signs, which take you down a dirt path! But a lovely hotel, perfectly sited for wedding receptions in a gorgeous country setting. Our room was in the back building, which was a maze to get to through basement hallway/tunnels. Included breakfast was delicious with custom-made omelets. Elevator to the lobby wasn't working as we tried to check out, but that was the only major issue. About a 10 mile drive to Como. Would definitely stay here again!

A great find!

This was well worth the splurge for us. We loved this place and would highly recommend it. This is a very unique place. We found that the pool was a great place to hang out and the extensive grounds were wonderful to wander. We'd stay here again in a minute. We also appreciated the staff and their helpfulness.

wonderful place, Stay very helpful especially Irene. Food in restaurant was outstanding and I'm usually very critical of preparation and taste (I send foodback often).

Good Location, checkout the Italian super Walmart (Bennet Store) its an adventure in itself. also if you have a car check out Como and take the drive along Lake Como to Bellagio , if you dare. good food in region we ate at random places and all were good . Would definitely stay here again.

Amazing Hotel, very poor service.

I have stayed in many hotels around the world and this would be the best. If some staff have had manners and had customer service training.
The location, setting, building, gardens are all first class. However the staff were more than poor. In fact very rude. Also the menu was very limited. We had no option outside of the 8-11 eating times to get any snacks or lunch/ room service.

good location, beautiful setting

looking at other reviews before i arrived i was pleased to see that the hotel and grounds and staff were above expectations. The location is good if you want to visit lake como, it has good links to both sides of the lake. On the down side the resturant was too expensive for our taste, but there are plenty of places to eat in and around Erba.
The only concern i would of had was if there was a wedding i can see why the hotel may not of been as pleasant to stay in. so i would check before you book.
a lot of comments about eating breakfeast in the basement.... it was good quality and choice, eating without windows is not a show stopper, the structure and look of the room is very pleasent
Overall i would stay again, all staff were very helpful, pool was good and clean.

what a disappointment.

The hotel building is interesting and the grounds very pleasant but the Receptionist did not show us to our room or offer us help with our bags on arrival. The room was very sparse, dark and not very welcoming or comfortable, although bathroom ok. Problem was there was a loud \"tecno music\" party on around the pool that went on all afternoon and evening with an incessant noise that could not be avoided any where in the hotel. So dinner outside, although pretty good with nice waiting staff, was ruined by the loud awful music. Breakfast was absolutely dire, worst on any trip to Italy, tinned fruit, processed orange juice, horrible rolls, nasty coffee etc, etc.

a beautiful place to stay if a little remote

It is a very beautiful place to stay, it was our honeymoon so we wanted somewhere remote not too touristy to relax and the grounds are lovely. It was a trek from Milan Malpensa though. Not sure we would have booked if we had known it was tricky to get to in the evening! Beware of no buses from Erba in the evening after a certain time. Call the hotel before booking - make them check what time your last bus is or you will pay 25-40 euros for a cab from there, or from Mariano. The hotel is beautiful and ideal for a couple who want to get away and willing to pay 40 euros to go to Como and then get the ferry for Bellagio's stunning views. Also the hotel has a lovely pool and good service, though you need the english speakers to be on if you are going to get a cab booked, if you get stuck in Como late, like we did! They were helpful then, especially Stacey. The hotel room service is very dear and so is the restaurant, but that may be expected. Ask for well done if you have the beef, as Italy gives you meat much rawer than you are used to. Also, get a fixed price for taxis each time - check that they are coming as one was meant to be 20 mins, and it was an hour! The local tourist cabs are called radio taxis at the stands and they can charge a lot more than calling one from hotel. So in conclusion a beautiful place to stay if you don't mind being remote and a little cut off but want to relax by the pool etc. Get an early flight from Malpensa so that you can get there easier!

Stayed at this hotel before so expected the same standards. The hotel and surrounds, pool etc were excellent with a good pool service & clean towels supplied for swimming. The hotel was very clean our beds were very comfortable but the bathroom was tired & needed a facelift, Our breakfasts were more than adequate with plenty of choice. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to my friends.

Lots of weddings and was very noisy with music one night going on to 01330 hours. Breakfast was good with nice staff. However, lunch and dinner menu was limited for children and expensive for the amounts they ate. Grounds of hotel were very nice. The first night we got one of the old rooms. It was really terrible. The refurbished rooms are aw better. Consumption at the hotel is expensive. Drinks are expensive and so is dinner. Quality of Mel's is good but you can eat with the same quality, or even more, at Lecco or Como. If coming back to the region, I'd evaluate other options closer to Como.

There were four people staying here that night, and the other three went out for dinner, so I was in the vaulted dining room alone with five waiters. Everybody was friendly and the wine was good. The food was pretty good. The Scotch in the bar was very good. My bill was one third room and two thirds food and drink.
I recommend this place as a slightly off-beat hotel out of season. It is beautiful on the outside and slightly out of control on the inside - broken chairs in corridors, a strange collection of wires and plugs on my desk to make the ADSL line work, a huge shower in a small bathroom, a scantily furnished bedroom.
I imagine it is entirely different during the summer - swimming pool, outside bars, etc etc.
Don't go if you want impeccable service and surroundings, but go if you like somewhere interesting, friendly and just strangely nice. I would go again.

Took us a bit of time to find it,so maybe a more detailed \"how to get there\" would have been better.
But once there,very impressive hotel. It fit all the genuine ticks for \"original castle hotel\". The room was good and cool with the thick walls.
The breakfast was also very good and varied.
We used the outside restaurant on one of the nights which was lovely,although obviously more expensive than eating in an outside restaurant.
The pool area was great and very inviting.
Over all a great hotel in a very good location (as long as you have a car) Easy access to Bergamo,Como and Milan (Erba itself is a traditional Italian town with godd facilities and a free car park at the station)

Charming rustic country hotel

On a 9 day trip to the area and stayed here the first and last night renting an apartment for the middle 7 days. The hotel appearance and grounds are stunning so it is very popular for weddings which were held both nights we were there. Being in Italy the guests were very stylish and no problem with noise at all. The bedrooms were large and clean, probably 3.5 star rating. The bathrooms were large with quality fittings (marble). Spent one afternoon by the pool where they will bring you food and drink to you at a price. Would definitely stay here again if in the area. I normally say at 4 or 5 star hotels.

Beautiful Hotel, Overpriced Restaurant

We were impressed with the staff, and we think we got a good price. Lovely, quiet, comfortable room.

I know it is typical for luxury hotels to charge for internet, but I am not sure why...you should be getting more, not less.

Also, we found the restaurant to be overpriced for what you get, even though I enjoyed the complimentary glass of prosecco.

On the night we got engaged we dined in a different Italian castle, ate better, more and spent less.

Nevertheless, great stay.

Very small room. Staff could not speak English very well at all. After a 16 hour car journey, we wanted to grab a snack and go to bed. Unfortunately, the only place we could get any food was the restaurant. there were two weddings parties, which we could hear from our room. the TV didn't work. There was a banging noise from the window.

A beautiful hotel that lost its charms

The hotel location is really beautifull, but the rooms we've got were in very bad shap... The lamps were broken (certainly since several weeks) and the heating broke down. So the temperatures in the room were too hot and we were able to open any windows (in May)
The hotel staff at the reception were so unfriendly and wanted to charge an extra for baby bed of 20 euros/day.

Terrible stay

After a great deal of research on hotels in the Lake Como area we selected this one on the basis of the fact that the photos looked beautiful and that it was close enough to drive to Bellagio, Como etc. From the moment we arrived we were extremely disappointed. The grounds of the hotel are beautiful but the reception area is very tired looking and the rooms were not nice at all. We had to get to our room via a basement past the kitchen and when we got there we immediately wanted to check out. We are accustomed to travelling in Europe and had no problem with the room not being fancy but it was very old and everything (shower etc) was poor quality. It also did not look very clean. Worst of all, there was a wedding going on that was EXTREMELY loud. It was as though we were in the middle of the party and there it was impossible to get any sleep. The wedding went on until at least 2am (I stopped looking at the clock). Then at 7am some (very) loud church bells started and did not stop. It was the worst night of our vacation - we checked out after one night (having paid for 2). I would not recommend this hotel at all. The grounds are very nice - I can see why people get married here but I would not recommend the hotel - there are much nicer hotels at similar prices in Bellagio, Como, Varenna etc.

This hotel is one of our favorite during our travel through Switzerland and Northern Italy. A fantastic setting, extremely manicured and clean, unique structure and close to several quaint small towns. The staff were all very attentive and helpful, especially Ilaria, who has a gift of outstanding customer service.

Be sure to visit Trattoria La Bugiana in Proserpio, about a 10 minute drive from the hotel, and walk around the villiage.

As Americans living in Europe we are quite used to the difference between American standards and European standards. This hotel was absolutely gorgeous on the outside and had a fabulous restaurant, but the room was not acceptable. It was dark, the bed was very uncomfortable and the furnishings were sparse and unsightly. This is not a four star hotel, this is a two star hotel.

Great Find in a Perfect Location

This was truly a great find. The hotel was charming, room was large and spacious, and the grounds and pool magnificent. Plenty of parking was a plus. The location puts you in the center of the lakes region with Bellagio and Como only 25 minutes away. My wife and I had a wonderful meal at the hotel restaurant. Highly recommended.

Hotel Castillo Castiglio - great !

Hotel in an excellent setting & lovely grounds . Quite easily found from main road even without SAT NAV only using a real map ! Staff very helpful & welcoming. Restuarant only used once but good food & good service. Buffet breakfast really, really good! Coffee was found a bit pricey compared to smaller bars/ cafes but it is what is expected at a hotel of this standard . Although there are weddings at the hotel it did not detract from our stay & posed no issues to us at all. Rooms very comfortable. Grounds & facilities (pool) very nice, well maintained & very photogenic especially at night when grounds & castle are floodlit.

The grounds of the castle are very nice. It must be noted however, that the interior of the building has been neglected. The hotel is very far from Como. We could not find any restaurants and bars near the hotel - tried walking to one which is very dangerous due to no pedestrian walkways. We therefore were forced to have dinner at the hotel's one and only restaurant. The quality of the food is below any standard, the service is terrible and it is totally overpriced (20 Euros on average for a meal). The only place to have a drink during the day is by the pool (above 6 Euros for any alcoholic beverage) (bar near the lobby was closed - reason, that the bar man is at the bar by the pool???).

Distinctive,idiosyncratic hotel

We found the Expedia directions a bit confusing. On the road out of Como follow the signs for Lecco and Bergamo. After the Bergamo road goes off to the right, its then 4.5K to a set of traffic lights where you turn right and the hotel is 100 yards on the left ,just past a church. There is a petrol station on the main road on the right just before the traffic lights The hotel is good value--- excellent,if expensive,food, fabulous setting with attractive pool and grounds. Although the rooms in the castle are atmospheric, our experience was they were too small . After 2 nights we switched to a villa room which was much larger. Hotel staff were variably helpful and the staffing of the bar was eccentric--2 bars, 1 barman and,when we were there, using only the outdoor poolside bar,which was not convenient for late evening drinks But overall good value and a convenient location for visits to the Lake Como towns (Bellagio and Varenna were our favourites) and also for the old town in Bergamo.

Lovely hotel but rooms could be better!

Nice hotel in a lovely location and easy access to lake Como if you have a car. The room needed an update and view would have been nice (most rooms do but week booked late and cheap so I guess you get what you pay for). Good pool with a bar and free nibbles in the evening. Food was nice with a good outdoor location to eat and an extensiver wine list.

beautiful building but tired rooms

castle and grounds are stunning, pool was lovely. fortunately we were allowed to stay past the closing time of 6 pm at the pool (with children this was essential). lots of terrific areas on grounds including soccer pitch and little places to sit. staff quite helpful. breakfast ok. rooms were quite large as were the bathrooms. we had a triple and it still felt spacious. tub drain did not work well at all. with a little bright paint and better beds this would be a terrific establishment. definitely need a car and beware that bells from nearby church go off starting around 6 am, ask for room on far side of building.

Hotel in a beautiful position, pool was clean, service excellent, we were in Villa Elena which was old but clean, the bathroom could do with an upgrade.

Good hotel

the only downside is, as mentioned by others, that the hotel seems to specialise in weddings etc. Accordingly, the hotel is very busy indeed during the day/evening and can be very noisy though it wasn't a big problem at night. If you wanted to relax in the hotel during the day it certainly would be. We stayed 3 nights: big weddings on day 1 and 2; christening party day 3!

Ausgezeichneter Hotel

Wir haben unser Wochenende in diesem Hotel sehr genossen. Super Spa Bereich, auch schöner Garten und das Hotel sieht so wunderschön aus. Im alten Castello haben sie wunderbare Zimmer eingerichtet. Alle Mitarbeiter im Hotel sind überaus freundlich.
Wir werden sicher dort wieder unsere Ferien verbringen.

Das Hotel war wunderschön und der Garten auch sehr schön.
Wir waren sehr zu Frieden bis das wir kein warmes wasser hatten um zu duschen und mit der sauberkeit des zimmer waren wir auch nich seh zu Frieden da die Wc bürste dreckig war von vorgängern.
Ansonsten sehr schönes hotel, freundliches personal und gutes Frühstück

An sich eine tolle Location, leider haben wir uns nicht willkommen gefühlt. Bei Ankunft wollten wir einen Drink an der Sonne geniessen (im Schatten, wo es Tische gab, war es doch schon etwas kühl). Man hat uns keine Alternative zur Schattenterrasse angeboten und das mit einer doch sehr eindrücklichen und schönen Parkanlage! Unglaublich! Wir fanden dann selber ein sonniges Plätzchen auf einer Gartenbank... Sitzgelegenheiten gabe es auf dieser Seite des Castellos zu genüge, nur waren keine Sitzkissen aufgelegt.

Bo på et slott

Et veldig flott hotell hvor du fikk følelse av å bo i et slott. Flott opparbeidet park og uteområde som de fleste kan misunne. Rommet var stort og moderne. I tilknytting til hotellet var der en restaurant. Maten var dessverre langt under hva man kunne forvente av det hotellet presenterte i stil.

Tolles Hotel bei Como mit unglaublich er Aussicht

Das Hotel ist in einem alten Castel untergebracht aber modern ausgestattet mit Aufzug und Klimaanlage. Es gibt ein wirklich tolles Restaurant und auch das Frühstück ist sehr gut. Hier gibt es nix zu meckern und es lohnt sich von Como hier Rauf zu fahren

Une merveilleuse adresse à retenir

Trop court séjour dans un endroit idyllique avec une qualité d'aménagement et d'équipement absolument incroyable. Les équipements et finitions de l'hotel et des chambres sont d'une qualité jamais vue en 50 ans de voyages (exemple : chambre et salle de bais en stucco veneziano !)
A ceci il faut ajouter un service charmant et souriant qui compense parfois mais largement un peu d'amateurisme.
Un seul mauvais point : un service de petit déjeuner à la fois médiocre et désagréable, sourire totalement inexistant.

Château conforme aux photos, très bien entretenu, piscine très grande et très agréable. Le restaurant gastronomique est très bon. Nous avons décidé de prolonger notre séjour d’une journée afin de pouvoir faire tout ce que nous souhaitions. Nous étions dans une suite junior, très agréable et au cadre médiéval. Nous avons adoré notre séjour pour pouvoir faire nos via ferrata, canyoning, visite de Côme, rafting. Le cadre est vraiment dépaysant.

Hotel molto bello ma stanza rumorosa

Hotel molto caratteristico in un castello. Essendo andato in inverno non ho potuto apprezzare l'esterno che presenta un bellissimo giardino. Stanza grande pulita, letto piuttosto rigido ma comodo. Colazione essenziale ma buona: soprattutto dolce, ma anche formaggi e affettati, mancano i piatti caldi salati. Unica pecca la rumorosità della camera, si sente molto ed è fastidioso il traffico della statale adiacente la struttura.

Virkeligt flot istandsat gammelt slot.... Omgivelser vildt smukke - sjældent set pænere end her.
Rene rum - seng ikke alt for god - ellers pæne og store rum.
Sødt og hjælpsomt personale.
God morgenmad - serveret i middelalder kælderen.
Restaurenten placeret udenfor i virkeligt smukke omgivelser - laver rigtigt god mad her.
Obs på at der foregår en del bryllupper - hvorfor der på nogle værelser er en del støj

Sterk verouderde staat. De ramen zo vuil dat je niet naar buiten kon kijken. Grote scheur in een raam, geplakt met tape. Bed met wollen dekens !! Zo ouderwets. Welk hotel gebruikt nog dekens.... Ontbijt was inbegrepen, maar zo beperkt. Koffie uit een automaat. Brood en toast voorverpakt in plastic. Een doodse stilte in de ontbijtzaal, geen daglicht. Je had het gevoel in een grot te zitten. De 135 euro per nacht zeker niet waard. Pluspunt, ze waren vriendelijk en de locatie t.o.v. Como
