The hotel is located overlooking Como and a short walk from the funicular into the city. It's comfortable and has an at home feeling. Raoul and his staff go out of their way to make this place feel at home. They've put their heart and soul into this place and I've never felt more welcome.

The owners of the hotel were extremely nice and accommodating to my daughter who was having trouble walking due to a bug bite that had swollen up her whole leg. The restaurant had delicious and fresh food, and the cook was also so kind.

Wonderful simple Italian inn high above Lake Como

It was the second time I have stayed at this hotel. I loved it seven years ago and it was equally good this time round. Locanda Milano 1872 is a three star family run in perched high on the hillside above Brunate. The family that run it are extremely friendly and the food is good and the bar buzzing with locals every night. The accommodation is simple but comfortable and the breakfast very good with fresh fruit, breads, meats and cheese and excellent coffee. If you are looking for somewhere flash or ultra comfortable, you would probably be better off in one of the lakeside 5 star establishments. However for me, the charms of Brunate and the welcome at this stunning little inn are more than any 5 star lakeside hotel can offer. I like to drive up the winding road to Brunate and then leave the car at the hotel and travel to Como by funicular and use the ferries to get around the lake.

Old building but look beyond for Italian soul

An excellent stay! The service was top notch. The restaurant was very good too - with a very good wine list (I recommend the San Felice). There is parking which is quite handy, and the drive up is definitely an adventure. A very short walk to the funicular and some great views of Como. The building itself is old, there is no getting around that - but the room was absolutely spotless. Their cleaner deserves a raise. Seems to be a local haunt and the bar downstairs can get quite lively - will definitely stay here again

Relaxing stay in Brunate

Nice, family run hotel and restaurant. Fantastic breakfast that offers something for everyone. Staying in Brunate was very relaxing and puts you close by to an area for trekking above Lake Como. Would stay there again or recommend it to others.

Hotter than hades!

The setting is great as you are up on the mountain top and the staff were friendly and largely helpful.

I would not recommend staying on the family rooms, except in the winter as the hot water pipes for the kitchen/hotel run right in the floor. It wouldn't be bad in the winter to keep you warm, but on the 80-90 degree days we had it was unbearably hot. The room came with a small fan, but I had to keep putting cold towels on me during the night. I asked if they could turn off the heat, but they explained about the pipes and offered a second larger fan. I took that but it was still sweltering in there. The room only had one window and it was at street level and there was no air flow. I really wanted to like this place but additionally, the shower head leaked and sprayed water all over the bathroom which I remedied by wrapping a bidet towel around the shower head. While my wife's mattress was good, mine and both the two for our kids on the wobbly bunk beds, had more than exceeded their lifespan and were lumpy or thin. Also as a note to those staying on the hill, the fenicular while close by is not necessarily a cheap endeavor - plan for one trip up and down to cost around 14 euro.

BRAVO!

When we arrived late at night to the hotel, the owner was waiting for us. He was very pleasant and kind. My family and I travel around the world but the dinner that we had at this hotel was so good that we will never forget. The last time I ate this kind of steak was in Argentina, years ago. But this steak was delicious. The employees at the hotel were all very nice and felt welcomed. We felt like we were visiting family friends. We will definitely return and visit once again!

Good for a short stay

Very basic room, but clean and good enough for one night. From Brunate you have a beautiful view over Como, and the funicular is just a 3 mins walk away from the hotel, so it's very convenient. Breakfast was good. If you have a small car, you can park right in front of the hotel, you just have to leave your keys, as they have to move around the cars since the space is not very big.

Another Hidden Jewel

The original hotel we were going to stay at was unacceptable, so we went to Hotels.com and booked this one, thinking it was close to Lake Como, and close to the city center within walking distance of restaurants and sights. When we began to make a steep climb up a mountain, we thought that our gps was on the blink. Once we got to the hotel and realized it was truly the one we booked, we were not less than delighted at the wonderful surprises that this hotel offered. Not only were the proprietor and staff wonderful, this boutique hotel was literally close to the top of the mountain, overlooking Lake Como. The view was wonderful and after we checked in, we took a walk even further up the mountain. It was stunning. We had a drink in the bar with the locals, and ate in the restaurant, which was wonderful. Breakfast was included the next day, and it offered a wide variety of items. Would definitely recommend to anyone going to that area.

Exceeded expectations and very pleasantly quaint

With a need to stay near the Swiss boarder and Como on business I had a quick search for a functional hotel. I had no idea the hotel was perched three quarters of the way up a mountain, overlooking Como, but was smiling all the way to the hotel. The location is very accessible to Como and absolutely idyllic. The hotel is a small privately run affair with a busy bar. My room was clean, comfortable and had doors opening on to a small veranda. The staff were very friendly and excused my poor Italian. Breakfast was excellent. I would certainly stay there again and would have to hesitation recommending the hotel at €50 a night.

Not for the faint of heart...

If you've got a carryon and some funicular money this is great little way to spice up your vaction...spend a couple of nights and unwind against the best view of Milianese smog you'll ever see. Old fashioned...no AC, loud old men in the parlor drinking all evening. I call those \"pluses\" but don't try this for a stopover. --And, by all means, don't drive!! Unless you're really comfortable with unmarked streets, hairpin turns on 20deg climbs and motos up your butt all the way up!

WE ENJOYED THE STAFF. THEY WERE VERY HELPFUL. THE ROOM WAS BADLY IN NEED OF A PAINT JOB (VERY TIRED FOR THIS PRICE) AND THE HALL CARPETS ARE CURLING UP AND ARE A HAZARD WHEN LEAVING THE ROOM. BUT OVERALL, OUR STAY WAS VERY PLEASANT. WE ALSO LIKED BEING UP ON THE MOUNTAIN, AWAY FROM ALL THE NOISE AND BUSINESS OF COMO. IT WAS SO EASY TO JUST TAKE THE FUNICULAR UP AND DOWN FOR DINNERS OUT OR CONNECTIONS TO THE FERRIES.

TV missing the remote control, took the staffs 2 days to get replacement. One plug beside the bed not working. Location is not closed to Metro. The heater in the room is too hot. Good breakfast! Room and bathroom is big, price is good!

Lake Como with a view

The Hotel staff are very helpful and friendly. All in all we had a great time. The main problem with the hotel is that it's on top of a mountain overlooking Como. This means if you don't want a precarious drive ,it is only access able via a mountain lift service at 5 euros each return per person ( this gets very expensive over a weeks stay) The rooms are small with no air con. Staff are brilliant friendly and very helpful.

This hotel is located up the hill from Como. It is a steep drive up, but once you get there you can just leave your car because the hotel is so close to the fanicular that goes down the hill into town. The view from up the hill is just spectacular. You can see down into Lake Como and the white cap mountains in the distance. Room was small but clean. Staff was nice.

Absolute gem above Como

As long as you don't mind either the windy drive up or taking the funicular up the hill, this hotel is perfect. We stayed in the summer and it not only was it cooler up there on the hill but there were hardly any bugs compared to being swarmed down in Como. Massimo, the manager, went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and was there whenever we had a question. Located less than a 5 min walk to the funicular, it was perfectly situated in quiet Brunate. Both my wife and I thought it was much better to stay there than in Como.

The staff where pleasant and the area was nice. Parking was available but cars needed to be moved around in order to get your car our. concidering your on a mountain, this is to be expected. Our room was the smallest in the hotel and was not that comfortable for a week long stay, might be ok for overnight.

Cozy and quiet

Very comfortable hotel and great value for the price. The restaurant on the ground floor is actually one of the best on the hill. Not much in terms of views from the room, but the streets around it are nice and quiet and its super close to the funicular. The only downside is relying on the funicular to get to and from Como and the lake, but the hill provides a welcome sanctuary from the streets of the town which can be crowded with tourists and chaotic at times.

Locandra Milano 1873 - put it on the Itinerary

Frederico and the wonderful staff made my 4 day visit to Locanda Milano such a memorable experience. The village atmosphere is amazing and there are lots of places to explore around the hotel and the trip to Como via the Funicular is such an easy and scenic way to get to Como and the Lake. An hours tour of the Lake is a good way to begin to see the vastness of it. then home via the funicular (cable Car) and then to a wonderful dinner at the Hotel - a prefect day...

Without a doubt I will be returning to spend more time exploring this special part of the world.

Locanda Milano 1873 - A View with a Room

This small family-run hotel in Brunate has much to offer for a short break on Lake Como. The hotel is reached by a seven minute almost vertical ride on the funicular from the lake to the village, which offers spectacular views from the viewing points over Lake Como. The owner Federico was happy to arrange a late check-in after 9.30pm. and was extremely helpful in many other ways, also setting up a special connection to watch some international sport in our room. He also offered advice about local places to visit in Como and in the area. He advised a day trip to lake Lugarno in Switzerland, a half-hour train journey from San Giovanni Station, and well worth the visit. The hotel offers a shuttle service to the two nearest train stations for which there is a fee. The alternative is a pleasant half-hour stroll to San Giovanni Station from the lower funicular station or a five minute stroll to the Como Lago Nord railway station which offers a handy connection to the Milan Malpensa Airport via Saronno. The walk from the upper funicular station to the hotel is well sign-written and can be done in two minutes (and the cobbled road is smooth enough to trundle your luggage).
The Lake Como ferry ticket office is within five minutes stroll from the lower funicular station, with a drop-off quay right in front of the funicular. Despite the shoulder season, there were sufficient ferry connections to see all the main visiting points. We would recommend a ferry trip to Bellagio, about two hours ride on the slow ferry, and spending at least two hours there.The rooms in the hotel appear to have been recently redecorated and the room we had was a fair size with twin beds joined together. The mattress was firm but comfortable enough for us. There are no coffee making facilities in the rooms but there was a stocked bar-fridge . There was new bathroom and shower en-suite to our room. The hot water was a bit temperamental at times, but useable. The windows are double-glazed and this helps with the early morning traffic noise from the roads on either side of the hotel. There are slatted shutters on all the windows. There is no air-conditioning in the hotel and this could be a problem in mid-summer. We were there in October and the weather was fine and warm. Couldn't get the wi-fi to work but didn't worry because there is a lap top computer in the bar area that can be used by clients. The locals frequent the bar and there is a bit of social noise until about 10.30pm, but this adds to the local flavour. The locals are friendly and helpful. The cold buffet breakfast was sufficient and had a variety of breads, cereals, fruit, cakes, cheeses, ham and hot drinks served. The breakfast times were user friendly and humane (from 7.30am to 10.30am.). The servicing of the room was done daily and we were impressed that everything was refreshed each day while we were out. The hotel restuarant offers good service and a fair variety of Italian dishes. The prices are fairly high, but not much more so than the other places we visited in Brunate. Both the house wines were very good and reasonably priced. We had a comfortable break, brilliant views, good Italian food, wine and ice cream. What more could a tourist want?

Bad side: small rooms with no AC, tiny shower, noise from the road if you sleep with window open.

Funicular to Como is close by which is nice, also great view if you go up the hill with car, there is a place to stop and enjoy the view.
I stayed for one night and it was pleasant and nice.

Our time was made most comfortable by Federico and Masimo as well as the restaurant staff. Location and views fantastic. Restuarant great quality with good wine. Nearby Polenta restaurant run by Dante was superb. Funiculare down to Como efficient and offers great views.

Autentisk hotel med behagelig betjening

Hotellet er af ældre dato og svært at komme til i bil på grund af de små smalle bjergveje. Men hotellet leverer hvad det lover og betjeningen er fremragende og yderst venlig. Vi havde en god overnatning i hjertet af Brunate, med en familie på fire. Forvent ikke fem stjerner men ægte norditaliensk autencitet.

Description sur hotels.com. Hotel 3 étoiles, parking, wifi, personnel polyglotte, vue sur le lac, chambre 20 m2. Rien de tout ceci n'est correct. Le parking gratuit est bien présent, mais façon tetris. Si votre véhicule est au fond, il faut retrouver le propriétaire des véhicules qui vous bloquent. Wifi présent mais lent et instable. Vue sur le lac était en fait vue sur la maison d'en face. La chambre (102) est située au dessus du bar : super bruyant. Le minibar indiqué dans la description est manquant. Taille de la chambre, grand max 15 m2 au lieu des 20. Salle de bain étriquée, assis sur les toilettes, il faut laisser la douche ouverte pour avoir de la place aux genoux. Le personnel parle italien, quelques mots de français ou d'anglais, mais insuffisamment pour établir une conversation. J'ai vécu 2 ans en Sicile, je connais les pizzas, la pizza diavola qui m'a été servie est la pire que j'ai pu goûter, moins bonne que les Sodebo en France (pâte trop épaisse, mal cuite, charcuterie + sauce pimentée au lieu du salami piquante. J'ai demandé de la sauce piquante, sans me demander quoique ce soit, le serveur me l'a retirée alors que je n'avais pas encore terminé. Je commande une petite bière, on me facture plus chère que le prix affiché pour une grande. Le coca est facturé 4 euros, pour ce tarif, il est juste posé sur la table.
Bref avons l'impression de nous être fait arnaquer par un établissement très moyen qui facture au tarif des prestations haut de gamme.

Einfach aber perfekte Lage

Sehr einfache ausgestattete Appartments. Die Anlage verfügt über drei gepflegte Pools die aber leider erst ab 8:30 öffnen und bereits um 19:00 schließen. Perfekte Lage in der Bucht von Manerba mit ausreichend Restaurants in der Umgebung. Service ist freundlich und schnell aber recht eingeschränkt.

Mi dispiace lasciare un commento negativo vista anche la cordialità dei gestori, ma purtroppo 84,00 € per una camera piccolissima in cui non c'era nemmeno il posto per una valigia, non c'era un frigo dove mettere in fresco qualcosa, il bagno anch'esso piccolo e sporco....mi sembrano un pochino troppo.
Purtroppo, non consiglierei questa struttura.

Nous avons dormi dans la voiture! Personnes pour nous accueillir malgré que nous avons prévenu notre arrivée tardive pour minuit. Le lendemain, j'ai pourtant aperçu ma réservation imprimée précisant notre heure d'arrivée. Nous avons demandés un remboursement pour la nuit, le patron cite qu'il ne peut rien faire. Malhonnête, je ne conseille pas cet hôtel!

Bon accueil. Nous devions avoir 4 lits simples mais nous avons eu un lit double et deux lits à étages. Comme les lits à étages étaient extrêmement bruyants (bruits des ressorts) nous avons demandé à changer. Le personnel l'a fait sans problème mais pour 3 lits simples et un petit lit d'appoint type lit de camp. Bref le confort est sommaire.
Très bon petit déjeuner en ce qui nous concerne.

Leider eine mühevolle, 8km lange, 30-minütige, enge Serpentinenstraße vom Tal bis zum Hotel.
Zum Glück gibt es eine Bergbahn runter in die Stadt.

ケーブルカーの頂上にある小さなホテル

コモはとても美しい街です。安全で清潔でお洒落で、とても良い場所でした。このホテルはコモの街の外れからケーブルカーに乗った頂上にあります。ケーブルカーは15～30分ごとに1本しかないので、わりと不便です。

このホテルからはコモ湖が見渡せることを期待したのですが、残念ながらホテルのレストランバーや私の客室からはコモ湖は見えませんでした。というか眺望があまりなかったです。

部屋は狭くて、荷物を広げる場所がないのが困りましたが、清潔だし、一泊するだけなら問題ありませんでした。

Gezellig knus.

Bij binnenkomst werden we hartelijk ontvangen. De kamer vonden we wat minder, want die was bloedheet (waarschijnlijk boven de keuken, want de vloer was om te smelten) en geen raam waar je lekker naar buiten kon kijken. Er zat wel een raam, maar die keek op de stoep met auto's ervoor. Maar goed, we waren daar maar voor 1 nachtje. Verder was het wel goed schoon. De ligging is prima. Je bent zo bij het treintje die je naar beneden (Como) brengt en weer naar boven. Ontbijt is prima geregeld en je kan van alles nemen van het buffetje.

Spannende Anreise verspricht Traumblick

Der Weg nach Brunate ist recht steil und kurvig, was die Anreise recht spannend gestaltete. Jedoch hat man von oben bei schönen Wetter einen Superausblick.
Die Zimmer waren mit einem Hochbett für die Kinder ausgestattet.
Leider funktionierte der Fernseher nicht und der Kühlschrank war recht laut.
Frühstück war in Ordnung, wenn auch recht einfach.

Hotel am Berg oberhalb des Comer See's.

Leider keine direkte Aussicht auf den See.
Das Hotelpersonal war sehr freundlich und wir konnten trotz später Ankunft (nach 21 Uhr) eine leckere warme Mahlzeit erhalten. Wir wurden sogar mit einem Willkommensdrink begrüßt, der uns für die lange staureiche Anfahrt entschädgte.
Leider war das Zimmer alles andere als ansprechend. Wir haben zu viert in einem überhitzten Raum übernachtet.Anscheinend wurden die Warmwasserleitungen durch den Boden geleitet, da die Fliesen sehr warm waren. Das Zimmer war nicht durch die direkte Sonneneinstrahlung so aufgeheizt sondern aufgrund der internen Haustechnik (warmwasser leitungen, Abluft aus der Küche) stark aufgeheizt; eine Abkühkung in der Nacht erfolgte leider nicht....
Das Zimmer ware eine Katastrophe und für den Preis von 152€ völlig überbezahlt... Jede Jugendherberge bietet mehr Komfort.

Kein längerer Aufenthalt

Das Hotel zur Zwischenübernachtung während einer Reise in die Toskana gebucht. Ziemlich abgelegen und abenteuerliche Anreise über enge Serpentinenstraße.

een ervaring in een oud bergdorp

gezellig oud traditioneel hotel/dorpscafe waar je lekker kan eten en buiten zitten in een prachtige omgeving op 1700m hoogte. wel jammer dat je geen panorama uitzicht hebt vanaf deze plaats
