We got to this hotel and I had reserved a king size suite with kitchenette. When we got to our room it was 2 queen sized beds. The front desk told us there is a glitch and when it comes through to them it shows “2Q” or something and not the correct room. They didn’t have the correct room available to provide me unfortunately so we didn’t even stay and are supposed to be getting a refund. Very disappointing.

Room 105, door is broken, doesn’t close right, it smells very musty, others in the hotel on the 1st floor was loud, after 1am , breakfast wasn’t cooked and pancakes came out like white bread shape circles..scrambled eggs were slimy..the ham was deli ham fried..we have stayed in this hotel many of years but this will be our last time staying in this hotel..sad the owner let it go down to a 1 star hotel..

The good: Restructured entryway with beautiful large wooden doors with brass fittings & rings. Opulent main lobby, beautiful dark woodwork, museum like. Beautiful in its day but like a neglected child it’s telling and felt dingy & very dark. (ie a beautiful ceiling light fixture with shades crooked and tattered with a few burned out bulbs)Restaurant/bar on site. Beautiful 4 post king bed, comfortable, very high (I needed to use my suitcase as a step up to get in it but no big deal) Free 24/7 coffee in lobby. Large Superstore and lovely waterfront beach across the 4 lane road.
The bad: sketchy af neighbourhood behind an auto repair shop undergoing some major big digging and perhaps expansion?Directly across from the parking area looked to be an old motel converted into rundown apartments and above three older 3 story apartment buildings.Although free breakfast is advertised the kitchen was “closed this week”, no biggie to me as I typically don’t eat breakfast(maybe call ahead if you do.THE Ubeautiful 4 poster bed with a tattered, ripped, VERY discoloured & torn cheap netting from years of wear & tear wrapped very poorly and differently around each post-it’s dirty, ripped, discoloured from hand oils & dusty-just get rid of it & let the natural wood be beautiful on its own. King size pillow cases on regular pillows, tuck & fold the excess fabric inside not twisted like cellophane, homemade artwork from 50’s got to go, no breakfast kitchen was closed this week?

While this hotel is older, it has undergone some renos recently, but there is def more that can be done on finishes, doors, etc.
My biggest complaints would be how low the toilet was to the floor...for anyone who has mobility issues this will be a problem. There are also no grab handles anywhere in the bathroom. The beds were comfy, the food was great. The staff that we interacred with were friendly and helpful.

Theres a little restaurant and mini casino innthe lobby, staff was very pleasant food was great. Hot ordered breakfasts are complimentary when your a staying guests!!
Location of the restaurant is perfectly placed.
While it is older, its one of our favorites to stay at and the beds are soooo comfortable.

a terrible experience! The hotel owner and staff were having a party until 3:00 am. The music was so loud that the walls in our room were shaking. We tried to communicate with the front desk several times, but nothing was resolved. When we went to talk to them in person, they pushed us. They even cornered two 17-year-old girls against the wall, yelling at them, not allowing them to make phone calls or return to their room. The girls were only wearing pajamas and didn’t even have shoes on. We had to call the police to stop them. They even tried to lie, claiming they had done nothing wrong. This was the worst experience ever! If you want a good rest, if you care about your children’s safety, and if you want an enjoyable trip, do not choose this hotel.

Please do not visit this establishment. Between the first room with a piss covered toilet and the second room with a dried up dead cockroach on the heater with some live other types of bugs struggling for life, this place is a dump. The host at the desk was embarrassed and gratefully gave us our money back when we insisted we could not stay here. 9 PM that evening, we were sitting in the parking lot searching for other hotels. Thankfully, we found one. Stressful evening. The picture of the hearthstone online is not what it is in person. Shocker when you drive up to the front of the building. Do not stay here.

We had a great stay! The hotel was clean, the breakfast was delicious and the staff were incredibly friendly. It is in a good location, about a five-minute car ride to the Alderney Ferry Terminal. It is also very close to an Atlantic Superstore for our last minute needs. Would stay here again!

Has a lot of potential , wifi should be fixed , loved the candy machine on 2nd floor with tap. On 3rd floor is very quiet , had a good sleep. Overall good value , what’s the point paying for a very expensive hotel in area when you just need a good bed linens and quiet . It served it purpose well. If you are looking for a chic modern luxury place , this is not it. If you are looking for value , quirky , quiet sleep. This one is for you .

There was no hot water for the duration of the stay, even after reporting to the the front desk. The paint was visibly peeling from the walls due to moisture, and the mattresses were had massive indents. All the furniture was damaged and cheap

Parking isn't acceptable when hotel is full. We couldn't find a parking spot when returning on a Sat night at 8pm. The front desk guy acted like he didn’t care when asking for assistance. The outlets must be replaced, plugs fall out constantly ad very unsafe because of it.

The door to the room was not secure, it was not closing properly. The hotel was not very clean, our sheets had large reddish stains. There is very limited parking. The heat in the room was good, water pressure and temperature were good. The pictures on the website look like they were taken a long time ago.

I recommend avoiding this place all together! The elevator was broken and we were on the third floor. We were told that is was getting fixed but another guest told us it’s been broken for well over a year. The staff was not helpful at all, water pressure was a drizzle at best. The room had hardly any outlets including none in the bath room. The whole building was smoking hot even though they said there was no heat on. Amenities non existent. Save yourself the stress and stay somewhere else 😞

Room was basic. Staff lovely. No wheelchair accessible rooms despite request and being give the standard reply of 'may not be available'. They don't exist. No 'may' about it. Also, no breakfast at all. But it is very close to the Dartmouth hospital, beds are comfortable and clean, and if you are well enough the mall nearby is good shopping. There is also an Atlantic Superstore very close and a fridge and microwave in the room. A good budget hotel.

I am giving three stars because there is definitely some upkeep that needs to be done. We had some rain, and the window leaked, it was an obvious ongoing issue, as the plaster was falling from the ceiling, walls and frames also had quite a bit water damage.
The restaurant is only open weekends (fri/ sat/ sun)
coffee supplies not replaced in rooms daily either.

parking can be a bit difficult, but doable. I liked the location, and ease of getting into Halifax, and the surrounding areas.

the VLT rooms, hallways, stairwells, could use a deep clean.
It appeared the inn is undergoing renovations slowly.

Restaurant menu in rooms says it opens at 7:00 am but when we went down at 8:00 ish it was not open and there was some initial confusion about when it would open.

It was pouring rain when we arrived later at night and we couldn’t see a thing. Very weak shower and water pressure. Other guests came back at 2 am slamming doors and yelling at each other. We've stay here before and would stay again in a heart beat! The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was clean and well supplied. The bed was also very comfortable and the pillows were nice and fluffy. We had supper in the restaurant the fries were amazing! I had Nachos the meat was over cooked which was a bit disappointing. We also had breakast before we checked out. My scramble eggs were delicious! They were missing some items on the menu however and did not offer a substitution. Hotel 10/10 restaurant 6 out of 10. We had great service. Would we eat there again? Probably.

The lobby was beautiful but the location was so run down that it felt unsafe to park/leave the vehicle let alone walk outside at dark. Jokes with other guests that we all felt the same - funny but not funny. The room was clean except the room itself feels like it’s never been deep cleaned.

We all know the saying \"Never judge a book by its cover\". That applies to this hotel. From the outside you may be a little wary but keep an open mind. The rooms and hallways have been renovated and our room was very clean and comfortable. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. You will want a car to get around, but it is about a 20 minute drive to the bridge to Halifax and is close to the highways.

Although the staff was very friendly and check-in was quick, the hotel itself is a little dated. The restaurant was not open for breakfast, but again the staff quickly referred us to a cafe that was fine.
Our room, although quite large, was very dated and not as clean as one would hope. We had a microwave in the room, that we had to clean before we used it - old, dried food was inside the oven. There was popcorn on the floor by the bed and a large sticky spot on the floor that we needed to clean up instead of stepping around it.
Overall, we stay the one night - it was a reasonably convenient location, but I highly doubt that we would stay there again.

There was only one light source in the bedroom (one lamp). Drapes could not be opened without neighboring buildings looking in. The room was located on the second floor.

Difficult to find things in the room at night.

Breakfast not included.

There is a laundry facility (1 washer and 1 dryer) available in the basement. Coin operated ($1.75 per load). Bring your own detergent.
