The two night stay was absolutely brilliant, the hotel was lovely the owners could not do enough to make your stay as good as possible.
The room we had was large and very comfortable and the food was second to none, breakfast and evening meals. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone whose interested in visiting Dunster.

We were very happy staying at Dunster Castle Hotel with Lisa and John. Very welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was delicious as was the roast dinner. Good portions and very tasty. It was great that we could take our dog. Room was spotless and very comfortable. We will stay again.

Disappointing on arrival as expecting a pretty hotel with hanging baskets of flowers. The hotel looked very tired & dull. Parking was good, yes the entrance is narrow but take it slow & it’s fine.
Check in was quick & the gentleman was friendly.
We booked a superior room including breakfast. Room was large & ok for a night but also looked tired, windows would not open & was very stuffy with poor lighting. Wardrobe door kept springing open in front of exit door. Toiletries not as advertised. Netflix did not work. No fridge in room had to use a communal fridge in a different one. Breakfast was just ok, coffee was good. Lisa was very friendly & gave us some local information which was helpful. Would we stay again or recommend - no as felt very overpriced & probably living off previous great reviews. Hotel appears to be up for sale so this may explain why sadly things have slipped. A real shame as a lovely old grade II listed building.

Incredibly helpful service

I've stayed in many hotels and can't think of one where the owners went out of their way to help as much as here. At check in was greated with a very friendly host, without asking was offered a room upgrade. Extra's in the room such as a glass of sherry was a nice touch.

Nothing was too much trouble and whilst breakfast was a pre-order menu, the rules were tick exactly what you want and it will be made fresh for you.

When my wife woke up poorly, Lisa couldnt have done more to help, even blocking the room from other bookings incase we needed to stay.

Highly recommend, we will definately be back when in the area next

An old and characterful property on the high street of Dunster so everything is walkable. Car park entrance is narrow and not suitable for anything other than a small saloon. I recommend parking in the pay and display 1/4 mile away. Worth the £6.10

Lovely Dunster hotel

We had a very enjoyable stay. Staff really lovely and made us very welcome. The main restaurant is closed most nights except Sunday and Monday but don’t let this stop you as they recommend lovely places around and all walkable
I’d try and reserve a table at one just to stop any dissapointment if you arrive late.
Only reason I put 4 instead of 5 was because the hot water tap wouldn’t go on but I had a lovely shower instead. It’s the onky thing I could fault.

Great breakfast choice!

We had a 2 night stay to visit local National Trust properties. The owners are friendly and helpful and provide an excellent range of choices for breakfast. The only slight downside is that the rooms are on the small side. Although they don't serve other meals, they do allow you to bring in your own food and drink, or they will serve you drinks from the bar on demand. Most of the restaurants in the village are quite pricey, but the Foresters at the bottom of the village is better value and, although it's largely standard pub grub, it's very well cooked.

Excellent experience. The couple who run the hotel (sorry, I can't remember their name) were so welcoming and engaging, and really coukdnt do enough for you.
The room was compact, but absolutely perfect for me as a lone traveller. Very clean, tidy and comfortable.

Really friendly hosts, we turned up soaked nearly four hours early due to a recent storm (traveling by motorcycle).
They didn't bat an eyelid and booked us in streight away.
You can even take your own drinks into the bar (at the moment) as well.

Wonderful lodging in a small market village

On a month-long trip to England and Wales, we stayed in a number of older or historic properties. This was by far the best one we experienced. Hosts were accommodating in so many ways - local travel advice, public transportation, dining, historic sites and more. Breakfasts were delicious, room was wonderful, location was a short walk from bus stop and quick connections to trains. We've learned that quaint or historic lodgings are nice, but the services at many of them can be unpredictable. We were very pleased and happy to discover the Dunster Castle Hotel.

2 night stay at The Dunster Castle Hotel

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dunster Castle Hotel. The owners are really friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The Bar/restaurant area was closed during our stay, which we were pre-informed of, and we were encouraged to bring our own food and drinks into the hotel and utilise their plates/cups etc. We found this perfect for our needs and a nice touch that meant we could take our evenings at our own pace.
The hotel room we had was on the small side, but seen as we were not in there that much this was fine.
The breakfast both mornings was delicious and cooked with local produce.
The onsite car parking was a huge plus too.
We'll certainly stay here again when in the area.

Breakfast is superb - make sure you have the fresh fruit
Only negative was the mattress was rather unsupportive but this is the best hotel in Dunster due to the attention to detail of the hosts

We were given full use of hotel facilities. Some parts of the room need some TLC and the bathroom is very small. The room would benefit from blackout curtains on the window facing the road.

Breakfast is preordered and is swiftly brought to you once you arrived down for breakfasts. You can order on the day but will take a little longer as all cooked from fresh.

Stayed in this hotel for the location. We really enjoyed the hotel finding it a relaxing environment. The couple who own it were especially friendly and informative. Although not running as a complete hotel the service was brilliant. Never before have we had an upgrade that came with so many extras. Breakfast in the morning was really enjoyable and extensive in quality and quantity. Care to be taken if parking at the rear of the hotel. I drive a Leon and it was tight, how the DB9 got there I have no idea. All in all we will be back at some time in the future

We stayed in the Dovecoat room. It was quite unique as it was adjacent to the hotel, therefore we had our own access. The owners were a lovely couple and very helpful. They supplied us with cold fresh milk in a flask everyday for our room teas & coffees. There was a welcome a bottle of cold sparkling water in the room plus Chocolates. A lovely touch.

Warm and friendly welcome from the owners. It was a shame that Covid has restricted the catering to breakfast only as this was superb and suggested that dining would have been equally excellent. Although not able to book in until 3 pm I was able to park in the hotel car park from early morning so as to enjoy the delights the village has to offer. Similarly I was offered the use of the car park for the whole of the day of my departure.

Arrived well before 3pm and was told to come back at 3pm for checkin, as door was locked, but we were able to park our car in their car park. On check in we were told the bar was closed due to staff shortages, and the restaurant was closed too! We could bring in our own drinks to drink in the bar, as the restaurant was closed, we booked into a nice local pub for our dinner. Our room was a bit cramped room 7, WiFi wasn’t working at all. The shower head kept dropping down on our heads whilst using it.

Really enjoyed our 1 night stay at this pretty hotel in the centre of Dunster Village. It was very clean and tastefully decorated in relaxing colours, with some attractive art work. The restaurant and bar were not open because of COVID 19. However, despite this the owners (husband and wife - lovely couple) invited us to use the dining room if we wished to get a take away and use the lounge area. They had an organised and straight forward system for dealing with social distancing which made us feel protected. We didn't feel we could score 'Excellent' as we did not eat there. We did speak to some fellow guests who said the breakfasts were very good with Smoked Salmon and Eggs Benedict as part of the breakfast offering. We would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it. It was good value too which is always a bonus.
