Warm Welcome & good parking

Our hosts give us a warm welcome and were attentive throughout the stay. The Inn had good parking and access was easy, cleanliness was good. The shower had plenty of hot water and good pressure. Bedroom warmth was good despite thick old solid stone walls.
The challenge in staying in these older properties is the room sizes which are small. The space was not helped by old fashioned beds with foot boards, though comfort was good. Our only negative was the bedroom lighting which was very poor with old incandescent low wattage bulbs. LED's would be better, cheaper and give more light.

Delightful weekend break

We had a wonderful time at the Notley Arms from a friendly welcome, high quality rooms and a very good evening meal. The staff were very friendly and accommodating regarding an elderly relative who wanted a meal in her room.
Our meal was high quality restaurant standard with a good wine list.
Monksilver is a picturesque Somerset village with good walking and access to the coast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this place and we will certainly return.

A lovely location, great room and ok service.
The downside was that we were charged a supplement for a cooked breakfast. This has never happened to me before at any B&B. It is penny pinching and not acceptable.

A lovely setting in a small village The room we had was spacious and well equipped, We ate at the pub both nights of our stay and can recommend the food it was very well cooked and presented with a good selection, only downfall was the service charge automatically added to the bill, me personally would have liked to show my appreciation voluntary NICE PLACE to visit

Perfect out of the way retreat.

Beautiful pub with clean and well appointed rooms. Very friendly staff and good food and beer at night. Fantastic home cooked breakfast in the morning.
This was a business trip and the super fast broadband was a real benefit both in the room and the bar area.
Just be aware there was no mobile service anywhere in the property or outside.
Also it is remote on small lanes and there were road closures on my visit with very poor diversion signs. Would be tricky to get to in bad weather, but I would certainly stop again as long as snow and ice were not forecast.

Lovely piece of rural England.

Lovely room, generally very quiet, but it is a farming area, so there is early morning traffic. Otherwise, a great place to spend a night. I have sampled many breakfasts in my time and this definitely rates amongst the top few. Evening meal also very good, sensibly priced and home cooked.

Fantastic country inn

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Notley. We arrived early and were warmly welcomed by the owner, who showed us to our room in the annexe, which was clean, quiet and comfortable. The pub is well decorated; there's a great choice of drinks and the food is excellent (we had breakfast and dinner each day) - everything we tried was very tasty. The whole place is dog-friendly, relaxed and informal, which we appreciated, and it's a great location for exploring Exmoor / South Somerset / North Devon. Would not hesitate to recommend and we will stay again if we are in the area.

Definitely a return visit on the cards ♥️.

Had a three day break at the Notley Arms Inn with two elderly relations. We all said how fantastic the place was. The staff were extremely helpful. The owners, Simon and Caroline were so welcoming and very friendly. The rooms were very nicely decorated and extremely clean. Our travelling companions are a bit fussy, not happy trying unknown dishes, but they were catered for without any fuss. The food was beautifully prepared and really tasty. The Scotch Eggs were to die for. The wifi was poor in our room, three foot thick walls, but this did not concern me, in fact it was a nice break. Wifi fine in the pub and outside room, so could do with a bench or two for this reason.
Overall, I nor my companions could fault the place in any way. No doubt we will return.

Excellent place to stay and eat

The hotel is immaculate the decor in our room the bar and dining area is first rate. The food was heavenly both dinner and breakfast and the owner and staff were very welcoming. The garden was also very pleasant to sit in for a beer or a cup of tea. Only problem was we only had one night definately one to go back to.

Thank you for a lovely stay

The service and attention to detail was superior to most boutique hotels we have stayed in.
We dined in the restaurant and was very impressed with the quality of food, the Somerset breakfast next morning was fab! I would recommend this lovely Inn to anyone.

Great place for a weekend.

The refurbishment of the Motley has been done well, keeping the traditional inn feel with modern twists. The rooms are comfortable with good facilities and a great shower. All nicely decorated with nice sheeting and towels. The pub is eclectic in style with a mix of old and new. The clouds hanging from the ceiling were fun. The food ranged from pub classics to fine dining. Everything perfectly cooked and well flavoured. Overall a great stay, we will be back.

Lovely Inn in Exmoor

This was our second stay here and we used it as a base to explore Exmoor National Park and surrounding areas. Close to lovely towns on coast and moors with the wild ponies. It is what I believe should be an example of an excellent English Inn. Cozy welcoming pub with excellent drinks and food. Nice garden area to sit in nice weather and a good breakfast to send you on your way in the morning:)

We only had time to stay one night which was a shame when we saw our room we wished we could have stayed longer.
We stayed in room 6 with the gorgeous four poster super comfy bed and beautiful decor.
Thank you to Simon and all the staff at The Notely Arms for truely making our stay so welcoming.

Comfortable stay - but would not go back

Pleasant rural location, and very comfortable room. Customer care was not great during our visit - poured tonic on gin and overflowed glass without apology, seated and forgotten at dinner - took 30 minutes before we had an opportunity to ask to order our meal (compensated with olives), forgot milk and sugar for tea and coffee for our table at breakfast.

Notley a fully quiet night!

Had to leave early. No one up to do breakfast at 07.00hrs. Otherwise a lovely place. Bedrooms are in the old coaching house next door. Good decoration. Downside that behind bedroom 3 wall is some unit that made a low hum all night. Possibly a boiler or extraction fan?

Lovely place, really warm welcome, great service, nice rooms and great food & drink.

A little too far off beaten track for business, poor phone signal (EE) and wifi didn't work in my room - but if that's not important this is a great place to stay. I'd definitely come back with my wife for a nice weekend away.

What a warn welcome.

Simon and Caroline are the most welcoming couple. They go out of their way to look after everyone. We had an excellent stay and we most certainly will go back. The restaurant food is first rate and very reasonably priced as is the excellent wine list. Just thinking of our stay makes me want to get back soonest.

Very nice hotel close to Exmoor/M5

One night stop en route elsewhere. Had read reviews about the Hotel and was intrigued by the position and it's history. Very nice accommodation in terms of the room size and facilities. Big walk in shower room. Bed very comfortable and linen superb. The hotel offered a very nice selection of Dinner options and breakfast was cooked to order ad delicious. hank you. I will be back with my wife next time.

A little bit of Exmoor heaven.

Everything about this accommodation is high quality. The listed buildings that make up the inn and the hotel rooms next to it have been renovated to a very high specification with lots of delightful touches. The welcome was very warm and the manager and his staff were friendly and courteous. The food was delicious, especially the bread baked on the premises and the morning coffee. There is a sense of being in the middle of nowhere, but in reality it's very accessible and only a few miles from major services. Thoroughly recommended.
