We had a pleasent stay! our room was about a 100 ft away from the beach! ( the beach in th south east is not always nice, but they have two pools) The hotel could use some upgrades overall such as the beach & pool chairs are mostly ripped and dirty, the linen in the room are clean yet deteriorate it. The staff does a really good job with the resources they are provided and are very attentive of their guest!

Come for the beach, not the hotel

Very basic beach hotel that shows it age, many doors only close with excessive force and the breakfast buffet is covered every mornings with flies and wasps because it is open air. Very pricey transfer from and to the airport. But the beach is indeed fabulous!

Value for money

It is fantastic hotel to stay with family. Quite and peaceful location with friendly staff. A bit far from the ports and town and difficult to find transportation locally. Breakfast can be improved - with proper management or presentation. Staff/chef and management need to know the difference of being veterinarian - Veg meal can be contaminated by non-veg meal. The only hot meal during breakfast is mixed with non-veg, which is not friendly for Vegetarian customers.

Very disappointing. A hotel without A/C in the heat. No working internet connection and a manager/owner(?) who is defending himself like Basil Fawlty.
After staying here we went straight to the Hilton appreciating good quality and service.
The staff of the hotel was very friendly but the environment was not available for them to shine.

Friendly, clean and great staff

Extremely pleasant and friendly staff. Great selection of food and it changed at breakfast every day which was good. Excellent wifi even in room for me. Flowers on bed every day lovely touch. Activities well organised. Hotel am hour from stone town and quiet little village nearby but this is perfect if you're looking for a quiet getaway.

Only if you like seclusion

My stay was quite disappointing. If you don't mind drab, small windowed rooms and are looking for seclusion with no excursions then this hotel is an affordable option. The hotel is right on a little private beach although no windows face the beach and one can barely see out the little windows either way. The outside of the hotel looks quite renovated but the rooms are fairly depressing. The worst thing is that the hotel is so far away from anything that any excursion will include high taxi expenses, more than doubling the cost of an excursion if one is more centrally located. Staff were polite however a bit inexperienced. Wifi was very unstable and my room's air conditioner did not work. Food was quite good. Management was a mix between a lovely lady and a brusque man. I cannot recommend this hotel. Better to stay in Kizimkazi where you can find much better for the same price.

Not bad, could be better

La Madrugada Beach Hotel was a welcome getaway from the hustle and bustle of Stonetown. That said, it is quite isolated which is both good and bad. There was no one on the beach, constantly harassing us to purchase goods, but there was also no other real options for food, unless you got into a cab.

The food was between average and good and it is all you can eat. The breakfast fruits and breads always had flies on them, which made them inedible to me. The bar service was absolutely miserable one of the three days we were there. Apparently some sort of mis-scheduling of the staff. In addition, there was only one type of whisky on offer, and not a very good one. They were unable to replace this bottle for a day.

The pool and the beach area are kept clean and were very inviting, however there are not enough lounge chairs for all guests which made getting a chair quite competitive which I don't care for on holiday. Also the headrests are fixed, with no way to adjust the tilt.

All in all, it's not a bad place, but they do have some work to do.

A comfortable hotel on Zanzibar.

I liked the location. Would say it's one of the most southern hotels. The beach wasn't all that wonderful as it had to be cleared of coral and they have left a few sharp bits. The wind wasn't as fierce either as some of the northern beaches. The swimming pools made up for the beach though. They were excellent. The service was fine and the food was good and everyone tried to be helpful.

Incredible value for money

If you are looking for a cheap hotel in Zanzibar and are worried about how cheap this one is, don't be - you should go ahead and book. The views are incredible and the pools are perfect. We were totally relaxed and didn't have any real complaints. We were shocked by how nice the hotel was for the price...it's just so hard to find that kind of value!

Nice hotel by the beach in secluded area

I stayed at La Madrugada Beach Resort for ten nights including Christmas. On Christmas Eve they had local performers do an evening show with drumming, singing, dancing and other surprises.

Just a note for future visitors, prices are all in US dollars, the exchange rate for Tanzanian Shillings is fair. It is most economical to pay in cash with US dollars. Credit cards are accepted with a 5% surcharge.

Schwandts in Makunduchi, Zanzibar

The location, Makunduchi, is very calm. It's perfect for those who want some rest. The hotel facilities are simple but clean, organized and comfortable. I got impressed with the Wi-fi connection in the rooms. It's very good considering the location is far from Stone Town. Not the best connection but quite fast and reliable.
The food is very good, tasty and prices are fair.
Don't hire tours (Blue Safari, Stone Town, etc.) thru the local hotels because they are more expensive than if you negotiate with a local taxi driver. Most of the taxi drivers can make arrangements for the tours.
The swimming pool is excellent.

Firstly the hotel is 70kms away from the airport and the hotel taxi is so expensive.The hotel owner was not accommodating because the room he had given us was so bad.the walls were not even painted .The hotel had no food when we got there, they said they were out of stock, we had to eat chips on holiday.Only good thing about the hotel is that is the location on the beach. the site is very good just that the hotel is run down.

Velmi se nám líbila poloha hotelu, vzhledem k tomu, že je mimo další turistická letoviska, je zde klid a soukromí. Nejbližší supermarket byl vzdálený cca. 20 km, což pro nás nebyl s vypůjčeným autem problém. Jídlo v restauraci bylo opravdu výborné. Snídaně byly oproti tomu bohužel slabší. Pokoj byl uklízen každý den a ručníky měněny dle potřeby.

Hotelli kaukana kaikesta, hinnat sen mukaan korkeat,Huone haisi homeelta ja kylppärin hanat ruosteessa.Ulkoa hotelli hyvässä kunnossa ja siisti ympäristö. Vuoroveden vaihtelun vuoksi ranta siirtyi kilometrin päähän riutalle.

Fint hotell med oerhörda överpriser

Fint hotell men oerhört dyrt med mat, dryck, utfärder och prylar för den som rest runt en del i landet och lärt sig prisnivån. Många ovana turister blir lurade att betala mer än det dubbla jämfört med \"normala priser\". Underbetald dyster personal. Höga priser och låga löner gav en stark känsla av en hotellägare som utnyttjar alla!

Optimal für Gerringe ansprüche

Preis/Leistung ist soweit okay für die Unterkunft wobei der \"Meerblick\" nicht wirklich nachvollziehbar ist.
Leider wird man mit den Taxi Fahrten sehr abgezogen auch vom Hotel aus, jeder extra service Kostet viel Geld.

Worst hotel ever. Felt completely abandoned. We all got food poisoning every evening We ate at the hotel. We couldn't get our money back when we checked out earlier that first booked due to the poor quality of the place.

Ligging van hotel is top. Heerlijk die rust. Mooi strand. Personeel zeer vriendelijk maar niet altijd even snel en vlot van begrip. Maar het is vakantie dus zijn we geduldig en begripvol.
Kamers schoon maar primitief en achterstallig onderhoud.
Eten zeer matig. Dus nooit all inclusive nemen.
Prima restaurants in Jambiani.

Perfekte Strandlage

Ein perfektes Hotel für Reisende die Ruhe, Komfort und Sauberkeit zu schätzen wissen. Direkte Strandlage. Das Preis- / Leistungsverhältnis ist o.k.. Offizielle (europäische!) Sterne-Kategorie sind wohl 3*** - aber für afrikanische Verhältnisse wären durchaus 4**** angebracht. 2 saubere Pools. Poolbar. Tolles Essen. Frische Säfte. Folkloreabende.

Ausflüge, Hotels in Stonetown und Transfers werden direkt an der Rezeption gebucht.
WIFI ist relativ stabil und reicht bis in die Zimmer.

Tolles Hotel mit sehr freundlichen Mitarbeiter_innen. Abendbrot etwas teuer (16USD/Person) und keine anderen Essensmöglichkeiten in der Nähe. Zur Entspannung ideal. Liebevoll gestaltet.

高級ホテル群が立ち並ぶ東海岸のビーチから離れて立つホテル。小さなプールが２つ中庭にあり、遠浅の砂浜のすぐ近くにコテージ風の建物が10棟程度立っている小さなスケールのホテルである。プールサイドには、バーカウンターがあり、レセプション近くのライブラリーやラウンジでは、Free　WIFIが使える。

Wunderschöner Strand, absolut ruhig

Ich würde sofort wieder in das schöne Hotel in Makunduchi fahren. Service passt, mit dem Essen waren wir immer zufrieden. Man kann in der Preisklasse natürlich nicht 4 Sterne-Feinkost erwarten. Der Hotelchef und das Personal sind absolut nett und jederzeit super freundlich auch bei allen extra-Wünschen. Der Strand ist sehr schön, manchmal liegt etwas Seegras herum. Es ist total ruhig, neben dran gibt es nur ein weiteres Hotel etwas weg. Es ist ein eher schon einsamerer Strand. In Makunduchi ist eigentlich kein Tourismus, es gibt ein paar kleine Kioske und drei vier Läden, die aber eher für die Einheimischen sind. Man kann dort wunderschön ausspannen. Wenn man mehr Trubel will, kann man mit dem Taxi an die belebteren Strände nach Paje und Jambiani fahren. Ausflüge und (blue) safaris werden vom Hotel aus angeboten.

Amazing hotel at wrong destination

This is a really nice hotel, but it is on the south side of the island.
If you would like some peace and quiet, and I mean really quiet, this is the place to go.
Really nice staff, nice rooms, nice pool and very good price.
Would not stay again, but that's only because of the location

Perfekt hotell för lugn avkoppling

Rekommenderas den som vill ha det lugnt och avkopplande, över en mil till närmsta turisthotell och 1,5 km till lokalbyn.
Två bra saltvattenpooler och direkt vid havet. Fin strand att bada på vid högvatten och vandra på vid lågvatten.
Bra service, erbjuder bra utflykter till ok priser. Bra mat, men lite dyr om man jämför med andra restauranger i Tanzania.

Sanitär olägenhet som bör undvikas.

Hotellets restaurang bör undvikas. Stora råttor bor I halmtaket och springer emellanåt på takbjälkarna en bit over huvudhöjd. En grupp med Katter tillåts gå runt bland borden och högljutt be om mat. När de kommer åt hoppar de upp på gästernas stolar osv. Helt vidrigt om du frågar mig.
Receptionen utlovade en del som man inte stod för t ex att det var OK att betala för hotellets utflykter på plastkort vid utcheckningen. Då krävdes beloppet I US $, vilket kunde omräknas till landets egen valuta till oförmånlig kurs. Ingen bankomat finns på hela östkusten utan närmaste ATM finns I Small Town.

Calm and relaxing with excellent service

We, a family of 7, stayed here for 8 nights during december and it was a wonderful, relaxing vacation. The location is great right next to the beach and we really appreciated the fact that we were \"alone\". The two pools are nice and clean and we liked that they were filled with saltwater. The atmosphere is really relaxed and the staff is super friendly and they really make every effort to make you feel at home. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean and each room is equipped with a fan and AC, although the AC is a bit noisy so we chose to leave it off at night. The beds were big and comfortable and had mosquito nets.
The breakfast was great with omelet/scrambled/fried eggs, boiled eggs, pancakes, fresh fruits, sausages, juice etc. If you want to have a calm and relaxing vacation at the poolside and at a small beautiful beach with excellent service away from all the noise and crowds this is the place to be. Many thanks to the manager and the wonderful staff who made this stay unforgettable!

Bra för familjer som vill ta det lugnt

Superbra hotell för familjer och par. Avlägset från restauranger, men finns en restaurang på hotellet. Tidvattnet var ett problem så extra bra att det fanns pool. Hyr inte bil då polisen är korrupt. Vi gjorde det och kommer inte hända igen att vi hyr bil i Afrika.ta taxi, men det är inte billigt. Kostar skjortan. 1 timme = 50-70 dollar. Hotellet hade bra dusch viljet är viktigt om man inte vill hamna på något hotell där man Duschar utomhus i en balja vilket inträffar på flera hotell på zanzibar. Personal är trevlig men ned vissa språkbarriärer. Helt ok hotell och prisvänligt.

Hotelli on noin 2,5 tähden tasoa, ei siis lähelläkään sitä hintaa jonka neljästä yöstä maksoimme. Huone oli kuitenkin puhdas, siivooja tekikin pitkää päivää. Hotellin lähellä ei ole MITÄÄN. Ei muita hotelleja tai ravintoloita. Olimme pakotettuja nauttimaan lounaat ja illalliset hotellin ylihintaisessa ravintolassa. Hintataso ja jopa vaihtokurssi olivat korkeammat kuin missään muualla Zanzibarilla. Vastaanotossa palvelu toimi, samaa ei voi sanoa ravintolan ja baarin henkilökunnasta. Älyttömien fraasien toistelu ja 'ylipalvelu' alkoivat käymään aikalailla hermoon. Ilmeisesti myös henkilökunnalla, koska viimeisenä päivänä koko henkilökunta oli jo kyllästynyt omaan 'rooliinsa' ja tunnelma oli nihkeä aamupalalla. Hotellin lähellä ei tosiaan ole mitään. Makunduchin kylässä ei ole myöskään valitettavasti tarjolla ruokailumahdollisuutta. Alue itsessään on kaunis, unelias kalastajakylä. Hotellin asiakaskunta tuntui olevan pääasiallisesti pakettimatkalaisia ruotsista ja norjasta. Kenties viikon pelkkään lepäilyyn ja altaalla makailuun kohde on ok. Muutoin en suosittele. Ainut mahdollisuus kohteesta pakoon ovat monet maksulliset retket, tai taksi esim. Pajeen syömään, n. 17kem. Hotelli kaipaisi pikku remppaa, tai vaihtoehtoisesti kohtuullisempia hintoja.

Mooi gelegen en prettig resort

Wij zijn hier 4 dagen geweest met onze dochter van bijna twee. Het ligt prachtig en erg rustig; de lokale bevolking is elke ochtend bezig op het strand . Het personeel is erg vriendelijk en behulpzaam. De twee zwembaden zijn fijn en je kan er goed liggen, ook op het strand. Er zijn geen andere restaurants in de omgeeing, dus je bent genoodzaakt om in het resort te eten, het eten is prima, maar vrij simpel. De kamers zijn netjes en prima, maar de aircon en het muggennet zijn oud. het strand is goed voor kinderen en er zijn spelletjes en bijvoorbeeld een pingpong- en voetbaltafel.
