A lovely character hotel with a lovely feel about it . A great room . Lovely friendly staff. The breakfast was good and a great location to Lake Geneva and only an 8 minute walk from the main train station. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you want to come to Montreux.

Convenient Stay With Some Hidden Surprises

The hotel has a lot going for it, but also some drawbacks that left us with mixed feelings.
The Good: The location is excellent, right in the center of Montreux and close to both the bus stop and train station, which made getting around very convenient. Guests also receive a Riviera Card that provides free local transport and discounts, which was a great benefit. Our room and bathroom were clean and well-maintained, which we truly appreciated.
The Not-So-Good: Our room wasn’t ready at check-in, which was inconvenient after a long journey. Another disappointment was related to breakfast. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, there’s a lively street market by the lake with plenty of food options. However, the hotel staff encouraged us to purchase the hotel breakfast without mentioning the market. We were told it would be CHF 18 per adult and that it included everything, even cooked-to-order eggs such as omelets or fried eggs. But when we went down to eat, we found that cooked eggs cost an extra CHF 7. While the breakfast was decent and convenient, the lack of transparency about the real cost felt misleading. To make matters worse, at checkout an additional CHF 6 per adult was charged for city tax, bringing the actual total to CHF 24 per person- quite expensive compared to the quality and variety available at the street fair.
Overall: Great location and comfortable stay, but the lack of transparency around breakfast and extra charges left a negative impression.

Easily accessible from the main station walking or by bus. The hotel is located in front of the bus stop. Walkable to the lake and near various shops and restaurants. Great location. However, the facility is old. The room had a strange smell, with squeaky doors. The bathroom area was not thoroughly cleaned.

Enjoyed our two night stay. Excellent location, not too far from the railway station and close to the lake/promenade There were features of an 'old grandeur', many of which I quite appreciated. We had a very nice large room with a view of the lake and the casino. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom could have done with a bit of updating, but was o.k. One receptionist was really nice and helpful, the second was perhaps a bit 'off hand', but nothing to complain about. On arrival we were provided with a pass for free public transport in the local area. The restaurant staff were very friendly and welcoming at breakfast. The breakfasts themselves were a little basic, but I still enjoyed the experience.

I realised they do not provide a kettle in the room, so I took our own, only to find that you need a special Swiss adapter and none of those I had taken used previously in other European countries, Canada, New Zealand etc. worked there. They will provide you with a flask of hot water though at reception if you ask. Need to take your own tea bags, coffee etc.

We really enjoyed our stay, it really was in the perfect location. We had a beautiful corner room with two balconies that had spectacular views of the mountains. The only details we would add is that the pillows were a little uncomfortable and that the shower wasn’t the best. Other than that, great stay!

Old and tatty. Grateful for lift up to reception. Room tiny and old. Missing tiles on bathroom floor. Shower is antiquated. Pre booked breakfast CHF 18 or 20 at the door. Not worth the money. Nothing hot, 2 types of sliced meat andv2 cheese. Some bread, pastries, yoghurt, fruit. Staff i encountered were nice. Beware when you check out that they hit you with city tax, which I knew nothing about.

Great location close to the train station, the lake and many bars and restaurants. Room was very neat and clean. Staff was super friendly and helpful. No air conditioning, which is not uncommon for hotels in Europe, but just be warned. There was a fan provided that kept us cool. The pillows were really soft and floppy so we requested extras.

I spent a great couple of days at this hotel - a very easy, convenient location in Montreux at an affordable price.
The staff were always warm and welcoming, and the room was comfortable for me as a single traveller. The bathroom could do with being updated but overall I was very happy with the convenience of the location (right across from the Casino with the lake just behind it), the cost, and a wonderful time in Montreux.
If you go, get the Montreux Riviera pass for free from the hotel - gives you some discounts on train travel (especially if you go up to the Rochers de Naye - the card offers a big discount) and free use of the buses.
The casino has a public pool (just a few minutes from the hotel) which is available to use at a decent price, and the walks on the lake are wonderful.
I would recommend Montreux and the surrounding area for a wonderful time in Switzerland! And this hotel was a great affordable base to explore from.

It’s an old hotel. You won’t find modern conveniences there. My room didn’t have a telephone or refrigerator. You won’t be wowed by the lobby or bedrooms, but it is clean and functional. If you are a minimalist and love only the basics. This is the place for you. The staff was nice too, especially the night manager.

The hotel is located within a 10 minute walk from the train station. There are two flights of stairs to get up to the main office, but there is an elevator, once inside the hotel the decor is aged, but very pleasantly done. The rooms are large. The bathroom in our particular room had been completely redone and it was beautiful,tile floors, tile walls, walk-in shower very nicely done. The hotel staff was very helpful and recommendations for what to see and where to go and dining options as well. I would say from our perspective it was a pleasant surprise.

Beautiful property!! The room was awesome. Much bigger than I expected for the price with beautiful windows and a very modern bathroom. The hotel itself is very charming. Location couldn’t be better - it’s just a few minutes from the water. We got free drinks on arrival and loved the bar that is there. The only drawback was that there was no A/C which would be fine with the windows open (plus the hotel provided two fans), but I did run into issues because the windows were so large. To have the windows open, you have to have the curtains open as well and we just happened to have a window where lights from other rooms would shine through. So it was quite bright at 1 or even 2 in the morning.

This hotel is not what I typically consider three star for this area, for Switzerland, or really for any first world country. Two basic issues: property is dilapidated and room 247 smells like sewage. It was either destroyed by rockstars in the 70s and never cleaned or I’m thinking pee party of some kind… Like Steele dosiers type stuff. Staff are professional and courteous and breakfast is decent. Feel need to be cleansed by both a firehose and perhaps a shaman after staying here though.

Excellent hospitality from the hotel staff! Not only did they have a safe area to keep our bags but the front desk staff helped with recommendations on what to do/where to go. Everyone was also super friendly! We also got free drink vouchers for the restaurant below (same ownership). The breakfast was amazing! Very easy to locate this hotel by taking bus 204 from the Montreux railway station and it stops right in front of the hotel. The hotel counter staff is very friendly. Room is clean, big and spacious. Just that room light is a little dim and room floor gives off creaking sound when walking on it.

Most horrible hotel . I understand most hotels in Switzerland does not have A.C. Unless it’s a 5 star. But this hotel had only two plug point in the entire room one of which had a small freezer and another one table lamp. We had to unplug both to charge our phone . They couldn’t provide us a extra fan because apparently light goes off if two appliances works together .customer set was also horrible and rooms were in a run down condition windows broken . Only thing good is the area and outside appearance . I just came from my visit 2 Nd July 2019

Firstly, I’m not happy and comfortable with
my stay at the J5 Hotel, it has no air conditioner in the room and throughout all my stay the weather was extremely hot due to heat-wave

Secondly, the room rates are very expensive for not having an air conditioner in the room.

I will check out of the hotel tomorrow morning at 9am Date: 04/07/2019 but I’ve already paid till the 05/07/2019 as per my proposed date of checking out.

Nice stay better when done remodeling

Great location. View of the lake and nice big room although very dated with green bathroom tiles. Only complaint is they didn’t tell us it was being renovated. Everything was under cover and being painted or redone. I have no doubt the hotel will be beautiful when finished as they are keeping most of the beautiful wood and tile intact

The hotel was built in 1865 and one still gets a feeling of how grand it must have been back in the days as it has maintained some of the style from back then.
Our family room/suite was very spacious and the bathroom must have been newly renovated. Breakfast was superiour to most 3 star hotels with a large variety of (cold) choices. Something with our hotel.com booking was not correct as we arrived, but the very friendly woman at the check-in helped us sort it out. The beds were comfortable, the rooms clean so all in all an ok stay.

Great location@ a renovated historical building

I stayed at the 4th floor with a small balcony overseeing a bit of Lake Geneva. The staff at the front desk was welcoming and helpful. The room is spacious with a clean and comfortable double bed and a big flat screen TV. The staff recommended different restaurants nearby and I chose La Brasserie J5 at the hotel and it was good. The waitress kindly recommended a white wine for me to compliment with my linguine with shrimp. I was satisfied with the meal and drink! Improvement is needed for the heater, it was old and couldn't heat up the room; and carpet looks old with dirt marks. There was a mini portable heater fan which I used it to heat up the shower. Shower was small but clean. The hotel is in a very old building but had done some renovation. It keeps the old fashion lift which gives the hotel an 60s centuries vibe but mixed with some modern arts in the room.

The hotel is easily reachable via bus from Montreux's main station, just a few steps from bus station to the hotel. Restaurants are available near the hotel so it is easy for those who opt to eat outside.
