Friendly staff, maybe a little too overzealous at breakfast continuously bothering us to try things and order from the menu. Made it less relaxed. Also a couple of nights in the lobby there was around 9-15 men who work at the hotel lounging around, this made me uncomfortable.

The breakfast was great only thing to add is the hot food was cold every day.

Excellent hotel—we absolutely loved the style and atmosphere. The service was outstanding across the board, from the front desk to the restaurant and bar staff. The rooftop bar was a real highlight, with stunning views and a great vibe.

We also enjoyed an amazing massage during our stay. The gym was on the smaller side but perfectly sufficient for a workout. Our room (508) was spacious, well designed, and came with great amenities.

The breakfast buffet was relatively small but offered enough variety, and we really appreciated the option to order additional items from the à la carte menu. The restaurant’s à la carte dining was excellent as well. The hotel is also fairly well located, making it easy to get around.

A special mention goes to the team for making my birthday extra special—they surprised me with a cake and even wrote a lovely message on the bathroom mirror, which was such a thoughtful touch.

Overall, a fantastic stay. We would absolutely return and hope to be back again soon.

This location was once a Dutch company insurance/finance building. The hotel wing in recent construction build with the opulence of a Dutch colonial hotel. Closely resembles, and reminds us of the Singapore Raffles at the height of popularity...only smaller, with impeccably detailed service.

The breakfast menu covers western and continental tastes, but excells with delights from Indonesia. Outstanding.

Lunch and dinner menus ore more limited, but ample for those retreating. Other Indonesia venues are nearby. Don’t miss the bakery and amazing dark chocolate bars topped with fruit and nuts!

A stay here is highly recommended.

It is an old colonial building in a quiet neighborhood. But that puts it away from attractions to visit. Staff is attentive and courteous. Pool and fitness area needs improvement. Maintenance issues like hot water needs to be resolved: we never got hot water during our 3 nights stay (2 nights booked not they Expedia) despite staff promises to fix it

The hotel is a refurbished historic landmark. It has so many beautiful details. The breakfast is among the best selections I have ever had at a hotel. The staff is genuinely friendly and welcoming. The surrounding neighborhood is lovely and walkable. For those interested, the commuter train, which serves the old center of Jakarta all the way to Bogor, is two blocks away.

Our stay was pleasant. Staff were very accommodating, but on two separate occasions we made bookings with the staff, and the bookings weren’t actually made. They were very agreeable with us, but we later found out they didn’t actually understand us. We feel they needed more staff that could speak and understand English. Other than this, we did enjoy our stay and the hotel is beautiful.

This hotel is great for anyone who enjoys historical architecture and amazing service. All the staff were incredibly nice. The property was very safe and extremely quiet. The room was spacious and clean. The best part of this hotel was the breakfast every morning. New dishes to try both Western and Indonesian with friendly staff. The only downside was that the area around the hotel was not very walkable but not much of the Jakarta area is so keep this in mind when visiting.

Great 5 nights here, we booked a junior suite, it came with breakfast and club lounge access. Breakfast was great, not only a buffet but a decent cooked to order menu, ate amazing! The hotel was lovely, really well furnished colonial style - the room was great, with heavy sliding doors between rooms and a bath on the old balcony. There was a cake waiting for us on arrival, even though we were late at 1am, plus another cake after breakfast on day 1. Club lounge was a nice bonus, soft drinks if you were about in the day and then alcoholic drinks and food from 6-8pm. It describes it as a mini buffet, but you could eàsily have 3 courses and meant you didn't have to venture out.

All in all a great place, shame we didn't book longer!!

There were some minor issues and inconsistent level of service but hotel staff were prompt to rectify them. Nice heritage building with warm and helpful staff, especially F&B manager Bagus, and Nancy at the Club Lounge. Hotel is located in a quiet residential neighborhood and slightly off the shopping areas but very pleasant. Looking forward to return.

Service was impeccable, breakfast and dinner buffet had lots of variety and were delicious, room was extremely clean and well-kept, and the rooftop bar offers an extraordinary view of the city. Very secure, always several personnel outside. If I had to complain about anything, it would be that the location isn’t walkable to much, but it’s right on the train line, so easy to get to Gambir or Jakarta Kota in a matter of minutes.

This Hotel would have been very grand in its 'hey day'. Although it has character it is also a little tired in parts. The roof top terrace was nice for sunset - but not easily accessible fro older or less physically able people.

The hotel was very beautiful and the staff were really friendly. I also appreciate the level of security that hotel had as well the location which were major pluses for me. The room was beautiful and very classical in design and furniture, which gave it more of a colonial vibe which I absolutely love. The really only negative I have is the small gym room which was a bummer. Despite this, I enjoyed the hotel throughly and would like to stay again in the future if possible.

This is a great option in Jakarta. Feels much more personal than any of the branded chain hotels (yes its part of Marriott, but a soft brand), and the location is ideal in a quiet neighbourhood, that means you can get to most CBD locations avoiding much of the rush hour traffic.

Its a great hotel ,after the hustle bustle , mad traffic of Jakarta its a welcome get away.
Staff are super friendly n helpful , hotel is boutique feel but rooms are Spacious n quiet which is nice as 2 weddings were there on my weekend stay and you were not affected by them. Room service was fast and no charges for milk for your tea or coffee which is always nice! Breakfast was excellent.

Charming quiet colonial-style 1920s hotel

This hotel in the wealthy residential/suburban Menteng region of Jakarta was originally a University, then a post office, then converted to a luxury hotel four years ago.

It is a nice option to get away from the hustle and bustle of Jalan Sudirman etc., unless of course you want to be close to shopping malls.

Only downside is that there is not much of interest to walk to nearby, though there is the Antiques Market, which is great if you would like to collect wooden figurines and suchlike.

Boutique Hotel - 5 Star?

It looks great on the website and was recommended by a friend. I don't think they're getting it done though. Definitely not a 5-Star hotel. Rooms were clean and bedroom area well appointed but not sure if these are suites or rooms. A little disjointed and the sitting area oddly appointed and in general not very comfortable.

Room service ordered one night and they never came nor called. I just gave up. Then the power went out for two-three hours so they are excused except that there was no backup power as the GenSet kept tripping the breakers and went out again.

The front part of the hotel is unique and interesting. However about 50% of the meals I asked that the either the napkins, silverware of table cloth be replaced as they were dirty.

Gymn was small and not a great place to exercise.

They want to be a 5-star property but just aren't a 5-star property.

The hotel is nice, but there is nothing within an easy walk. Also, as for the drink prices, does management think we are at the Ritz Bar in Paris? Perhaps the Carlyle in London? Or Sky Bar in Bangkok? $5 ++ for a bottle of water? $15 for a cocktail? Really?

Not your typical hotel, it was another type of building at one time, hospital or business office, so makes a lot turns and corners, but still, very nice. Rooms were large and clean with nice furnishing. Locale is find, better part of the city and while we didn't get out too much locally, it felt like a very comfortable area.

No issues, I would stay there again. Only thing I would improve, a bit more variety to breakfast ever so often, it was a good breakfast, but almost exactly the same for several days in a row.

I very much enjoyed my two night stay at the Hermitage. The main building is an elegant, converted old Dutch colonial telephone building and the rooms are in a modern tower annex carefully constructed in the same elegant style. My room had many refined details, including ceiling and wall moldings, wallpaper, and marble floors (except for the bedroom which was carpeted). The room made a very favorable first (and lasting impression) -- I was struck by its beauty immediately upon entry. I had a separate marbled sitting room and hallway leading into the bedroom. The large bathroom was also marbled and was see-through into the bedroom, though you could lower blinds to add some privacy. It was all so very comfortable and pleasant. Everything worked great, including WiFi. Breakfasts were enormous and featured all sorts of cuisine -- loved the Dim Sum. The rooftop pool is refreshing and there is a stairway leading up to the true rooftop where you can grab a cocktail at night and (at anytime) enjoy really nice views across the city. I guess I wish that the rainfall shower were a bit more powerful, but that is my only complaint. This hotel oozes class and comfort and I very, very highly recommend it.

Absolutely the best hotel in Jakarta

This is a heaven of peace and relaxation in the busy city of Jakarta.
The hotel is a old telecommunications office from the colonial period.
It is beautifully restored with attention for the smallest details.
The rooms have all modern comfort but at the same time you feel going back in time.
Facilities are fantastic, a well gym, a stunning rooftop bar and pool.
The breakfast is excellent with great service.
All staff are friendly and attend-full.

A True Pleasure

This might very well be the absolute best hotel I've had the pleasure to stay at. The staff fully masters the difficult and crucial balance between being friendly and attentive. Our Executive room was well beyond our expectations -- which already were pretty high, after reading previous guests' reviews. The breakfast was nothing but excellent.

The only downside is the neighbourhood. The Hermitage is located in a residential area far from -- more or less -- anything of interest. That's however nothing the hotel can be blamed for…

Excellent Hotel

Excellent Service, beautiful building, very new condition and artistic design. Just around 15mins ride on taxi from major shopping malls/ commercial districts. A art and craft souvenir street just few mins walk away. Very happy stay and will surely come back.

Perfect Hotel, Oasis in Jakarta

Amazingly beautiful hotel with perfect service - best we've ever experienced, actually. It's in a relatively quiet part of Jakarta (quiet for Jakarta, that is!). Can easily walk to Jalan Surabaya, a street filled with handcraft and antique stores, and to the area where the embassies are as well as President Obama's school when he lived there. The food was great, massages were unbelievable. Awesome martinis on the roof deck, and the pool was awesome too. Can't say enough good things about it, it was really a fantastic hotel.

hermitage review

the hotel was really nice. we love it and really enjoy our stay. one minus point though I spent about 30 mins for check in. they said that my reservation that i made through hotel.com was not in their system yet. thankfully the manager came and helped to expedite the process. other than that it was great.

Old Colonial Elegance in Central Jakarta

I am a frequent visitor to Jakarta and recently tried The Hermitage for the first time. I am delighted to see a 1920s Art Deco colonial structure has been renovated to tasteful magnificence and is a handsome addition to the old Menteng neighborhood in which it is located. The staff are friendly and helpful (although this is generally true at hotels throughout Jakarta) -- but what makes the hotel unique in Jakarta is the attention to detail that has gone into the design and feel of the place. Original elements of the old Dutch telegraph office have been maintained and the lobby and lounges are filled with old photos from the Sukarno era. It's an ideal place for tea even if you are not staying at the hotel. In addition, the Hermitage is centrally located and only a short taxi ride to Jalan Sudirman and the Plaza Indonesia complex.
