In this guide

The price to compare is the difference between otherwise equivalent room offers. A breakfast-included room is useful only when the entitlement fits your guests and you can use it. The decision is more precise than comparing a buffet's advertised walk-in price with an unrelated room rate.
Choose the same property, room type, dates, room count and occupancy first. Then read the breakfast entitlement, cancellation deadline and payment timing for each rate. A lower breakfast premium may come with a less flexible booking condition.
Calculate the premium for the whole stay
Consider an invented three-night example for two guests in one room. Offer A is EUR 100 per night without breakfast; adding breakfast costs EUR 15 per person each morning. Offer B is EUR 120 per night and includes breakfast for both guests.
| Offer | Room cost | Breakfast cost | Comparable total |
|---|---|---|---|
| A: room-only plus breakfast | EUR 300 | EUR 90 | EUR 390 |
| B: breakfast included | EUR 360 | Included for the stated guests | EUR 360 |
In that specific example, B is EUR 30 lower if both guests eat all three breakfasts. If neither plans to use the hotel breakfast, A's room-only expense is lower. These are illustrative inputs, not prices or conditions promised by a hotel.
Enter your own offers in the hotel total-price comparator. Set a breakfast charge to zero when it is genuinely included, and avoid adding taxes that the room quote already includes.
Count guests and usable mornings
- Does the entitlement cover every booked guest, or only a named number of adults?
- Are children included, charged separately or subject to age conditions?
- Does breakfast start before your tour pickup or airport departure?
- Will a late arrival change which mornings are covered?
- Is the meal served in a restaurant, lounge or another location?
- Is the entitlement a buffet, a fixed menu, a credit or a limited selection?
If you will miss one morning, compare the flexible alternative for the mornings you can actually use. Our comparator uses one breakfast charge across the entered nights; for an irregular schedule, enter the exact whole-stay breakfast amount under other charges and set the per-day breakfast field to zero.
Read the room-rate wording
Terms such as room-only, bed and breakfast, half board and full board describe meal arrangements, but the selected offer remains the source for its precise inclusions. The meal-plan guide explains the labels so this comparison can focus on value.
A property may sell breakfast at reception, but do not assume that buying it later will cost the same as the online rate difference. Ask for the applicable price, taxes, child conditions and service times if you need that alternative.
Keep other costs and flexibility visible
Compare excluded local charges, room upgrades and deposit requirements separately. A refundable incidentals hold can affect the funds you need at arrival without being a breakfast expense. A restrictive cancellation term can matter more than a small meal saving when your travel dates are uncertain.
For family travel, check occupancy and bed arrangements in the family hotel room guide. A breakfast offer for two adults does not settle whether a third guest can use the room.
Choose the offer that matches your mornings
Breakfast can be convenient for an early workday or a family that wants a predictable start. A room-only option can suit travellers who have an early flight or prefer to eat elsewhere. Use your real itinerary and equivalent rate conditions, then compare available hotel offers.
Common questions
Does a hotel's general “breakfast available” description mean it is included?
No. Read the selected room rate's inclusion.
Can I remove breakfast from an already booked package?
Ask about the actual rate conditions. Do not assume that an unused meal creates a partial refund.
