I have stayed here before and I use The Waterloo Arms every time I'm down this way . The room is always clean and fresh feeling. Stayed during the May heatwave, so I could of done with being supplied with a fan. Yes I should of asked but luckily I carry one with me. There is only recommendation I have for the establishment. When staying on the ground floor, all you can hear is the loose paving slabs as people walk over them. Because of the amount of noise, I would say all are loose. Food from the pub is excellent.

Extremely poor condition of the door to room 3, which was the room I was given on 11 March. My room was an external room of the Inn and therefore the security of the guest experience should be of a much higher level than if the guest was located within the actual main building. However, the door lock to my external room had clearly been breached with a screwdriver at some point in the past. Was this damage caused during a burglary, perhap?? It did not appear to be recent damage, as the exposed wood was not light in colour! This poor standard of room security falls too far below what is expected by any guest staying in a hotel or Inn. It was the member of staff that guided me to the room and opened the door which I why I initially did not see the damage to the door and door frame. It was only when I wanted to leave my room about an hour later to walk around the building to the entrance to the Inn to get an evening meal, that I noticed the damage. Only a fool would have then left all of their valuables in the room whilst they went and sat in the Inn for a couple of hours. I therefore had to stay in my room and order a takeaway to be delivered to me. To compound things, the inside door lock had no locking mechanism anymore, so I could not even lock myself in. I had to pile up a load of furniture against the door to give me some level of security against a possible intruder!! I did speak with a member of staff the next morning! NOT FAIR AT ALL!!

The only thing that let it down slightly was the bathroom which was in need of a refurbishment as wood has been used to trim the base of the shower and it was warped and blackened from the water/steam. Other than that it was a fantastic stay.

It has only been 2 months since my last stay here and it was as good as ever. Staff as always were really friendly and make you feel at home. I had a thoroughly enjoyable evening meal as well as a great breakfast. A decent night's sleep set me up for the day and I look forward to coming back here.

In the beginning it was family run, basic but good value and with good food. Marstons took it over and refurbished which was great and provided a much needed enhancement in the rooms.
My recent stay this year the rooms are tired. Only one bedside table where there would be two, the floor in the bathroom all lifting up and overall could be cleaner.
Also little things have been taken away such as the biscuits that used to be with the tea and coffee facilities in the room and small bottles of water.
The Breakfast although fine, the menus can be a little confusing with what is included, even for the staff as when I went to pay I was told Tea and Coffee was extra, until I pointed out on the menu that it was included.
Overall our stay met our needs for two nights, but for the cost I think there are better places to stay.

Conveniently situated only 5 minutes drive from my first appointment of the following day, I got checked in with a warm reception from the staff. I have stayed there twice before so had an idea of what to expect. I had one of the external ground floor rooms which made it easier to go back and forth to the car park. Having dines there previously, I did so again and was well looked after with some sumptious food provided for a very reasonable cost. The room itself was spacious, clean and provided everything I needed. The Wi-Fi was a little spotty which was the only drawback. The surrounding area allowed for an hour long walk with lovely scenery. The shower was very powerful and the bed comfy for a good night's sleep. Breakfast in the morning was amazing with some locally sourced ingredients to get the day started off right. Can't wait to be back here again.

Easy check in online before hand so went to the bar and got the key immediately and actually got shown to the room - a rare thing nowadays. We had a room on the outside which was great as was going to be rather late back in the evening. Room spacious, comfy bed and had all the amenities. Will go back if in the area

on arrival all was fine got in room seems to be ok, went for something to eat told by manager only 1 chef, 1 waitress, and herself food would be a while thats fine half hour wait not a problem. on going back to room there is dust hanging on the walls, dust covered bedside tablelamp bulbs, carpet was sticky by table, hole in skirting board in bathroom where shower door drips onto, cracks in walls and ceiling, front door looed like an interior hollow door very poor for security. outside our window paving slabs loose noise every time someone walked past, the smell from the sewers day and night was terrible. we also didnot have any one replenish anything or replace towels or bedding , 2 teabags 2 sugar sachets, after 3 days we left out of a 7 night stay we had a family issue at home if that was not a problem we would of left anyway it was just not a good stay.

For a last minute booking it was alright, I thought at first … bates motel, but when I got in the room, I was pleasantly surprised,there was tea/coffee, it was clean and comfortable… the bar manager who runs it was lovely , and the breakfast was alright too, and what’s better in these times of living is everything was reasonably priced… would I stay again … yeah why not

The room (5) was OK but not great. The bed was good and all linens nice and clean. The bathroom was a disappointment though. Flaking paint, rusty radiator and a sticky floor, plus the toilet cistern wasn't properly attached to the wall. Biggest issue was the creaking floor above the room. Really noisy at night whenever anyone moved around in the room above. Also, lots of road noise as the window doesn't seal well.
Overall, an OK experience. We'd visit again for the staff service and food but would certainly hope bathrooms had been improved.

Furthermore to this I overheard staff talking and saying the Area Manager was phoned about the issue and simply complained about taking a phone call on Saturday evening! Stayed here a few times. It’s pretty no nonsense and great value. A minor quibble this stay was intermittent water running from some kind of header tank in or above my room. This caused me to wake up a few times. The bed is very comfortable though and you don’t want to get out of it!! The location is ideal for access to the M5 and the property has a great sized car park for a large van. Had food which on all occasions has been well cooked, tasty and good value for money. Staff are very pleasant and helpful, you also get shown to your room and a few things get explained to you. Will definitely stay again when working in the area.

Waterloo Cross - not fab!
When we checked in the girl on reception was a little abrupt and not that friendly. she didn't advise of any breakfast times, wifi codes...nothing really.
The room itself was fairly clean...along with a few squashed bugs on the wall. It did smell rather damp, especially in the bathroom. The shower had no adjustment and you literally had to step into it no matter what the temperature, or having spraying water all over the floor. There wasn't a shower cap, but there was soap. I wouldn't choose to stay here again.

Great place to stay very reasonable price wise, if you don’t have your own transport it’s not the best for access to taxi’s etc but that’s not the fault of the venue just the remote location. There is a train station 10 mins drive away but not easy to access by foot.

Very convenient to M5 on our journey north. Good restaurant on site. Cheerful and effective service. BUT the inn is very close to a major road and our ground floor room faced the car park and was subject to all night traffic noise.

Had a fabulous 2 night stay, spotlessly clean & cosy room with the biggest, comfiest bed weve ever had .. most amazing sleep! Tea, coffee & biscuits all provided & beautiful white fluffy towels! Big bathroom with waterfall shower. Lovely atmosphere in bar area, gorgeous food and the warmest welcome from Val & her team. Cant wait to go back next summer.
