Its a very old building full of character. The garden and flower boxes were amazing. The town is lovely and the area is beautiful with towering hills on both sides and the River Usk running past the town. Food and atmosphere very good.

Another great stay at The Bear. I love it because it has a lot of character and it’s interesting. The rooms and nice and comfortable and the restaurant serves really delicious food (I had the beef short rib). It’s also really conveniently located in Crickhowell with most other interesting places within walking distance.
Lastly, all the staff I spoke to were really friendly and accommodating.
Definitely worth a visit.

We regularly eat at The Bear, as we love the food, but this was our first time to stay. The room was beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and the bed was very comfortable. As always, the service in the restaurant was excellent and the food was delicious. Our waiter, Hi-Man was most attentive.

Perfect getaway spot

Very courteous and friendly staff. Check-in easy. We were phoned a few days earlier to ask if we would like to reserve a table for dinner as they were filling up fast; this was welcome and unexpected. Good food. Beautiful hanging floral displays outside. Spacious room with its own front door. Powerful shower, good welcome pack. The only gripe is the tv had some very odd channels on it. We were very impressed with this hotel and hope to return next year. Good location for exploring.

I love the Bear hHotel. Have stayed there many times over 25 years and have had friends and family stay there as well. Extremely professional staff: efficient, helpful and knowledgeable. Beautiful garden for drinks and meals. The Bear is Neat,, Clean, Tidy and full of character and historical interest.

Staff very friendly in a busy atmosphere, as the hotel is used as a public bar as well as hotel facilities. If we wished to use the front bar for meals as long as you tell the staff well in advance they will reserve a table of what ever size and location in the public area. Food excellent, Staff hotel wise excellent. Public bar wise, they must be the best bar in Crickhowell. Money well spent, Plus free, safe and secure car parking on site. Highly recommended

An excellent place to stay, staff were most welcoming and accommodating. Room was huge, warm, comfortable and in great condition. Great to have secure parking at the back of the hotel as well. Main building, bar area very characterful, lovely open fire dotted around and given the age of the place and its history the place is in fantastic condition clearly very well looked after by the owners. Bar and restaurant was great and food was excellent. Would definitely stay again when back in the area.

Great Dog-Friendly Hotel in the Brecons

This is a super place to stay in the heart of the Brecons. It's in a very attractive village with plenty to do around the place. It's a dog-friendly hotel - always a positive for me. I was travelling on my own with two dogs and everyone was very welcoming. The hotel has a lot of character, and my room was spacious, warm and comfortable. The restaurant is also very good.

We stayed at The Bear over New Years Eve for 2 nights. The hotel is in a great location - lovely town conveniently situated within the National Park.
I would rate staff that works there 5/5 - very friendly team that met all of our requests.
Food in the pub is also excellent and we dined there breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The room we stayed in unfortunately did not meet our expectations. We upgraded the stay to a 'Better' option that was advertised as more modern (room 25 to be exact). Unfortunately this particular room needs a lot of improvement to be classified as modern. Wall mounted hairdryer was about 20 years old, bath panel was coming away from the bath, bathroom had zero ventilation and even if we showered with the window fully open our room would get very steamy.
The bedding was also not hotel quality, pillows were not fluffy and the duvet wasn't much better.
The room was very clean and covid cleanliness guidlines in place.

Unfortunately because of the uncomfortable bed and dated bathroom we will not be visiting again. Overall the room had no character whatsoever for such a beautiful and old property.

Had a lovely weekend for a family get together. Staff were so helpful, service was excellent. Meal in the restaurant was amazing 10 meals all faultless. My only criticism was I booked 3 rooms for 3 couples, one couple was upgraded for with all the extras, slippers, bath robes, jacuzzi bath, it was a suite, it was beautiful. Other 2 rooms 1 good the other not so good but we paid the same price as the suite, not great really. When I questioned this on check I was told it’s a random selection of which guests get upgraded.

Charming Hotel Brecon Beacons

Wonderful night stay in this charming country hotel. The staff are very welcoming and friendly allowed us to leave our luggage with them in the morning before check in at 3pm so we could make the most of our stay. Check in very quick, lovely upgraded room with modern decor and very comfortable large double bed. Lots of hot water available and our dogs stayed with us too! It was great that the dogs could accompany us for dinner and breakfast. The food was delicious and arrived very promptly. Lovely desserts. Breakfast served in the bar was also very good. All the staff we met from reception, Bar and housekeeping were all very welcoming. Will definitely return.

This is a personal view but dogs should not be allowed in a restaurant such as this, particularly in the evening. One is bad enough but there were far too many with owners incapable of controlling them and I do not want a dog licking around my feet whilst I am eating or having to dodge them whilst carrying my drinks. And a dogs flatulence is enough to spoil anyone's evening meal.

Lovely cosy night. Very pleasing hotel to stay in - clean comfortable quiet rooms in the yard, very cosy in the bar for supper and a nice gin and tonic, and very dog friendly. Well-situated for a brisk morning walk to work off breakfast up out along the lane behind and up Table Mountain for spectacular views, and back down in time for mid morning coffee in Vamos. We had a fantastic stay at the Bear. Could not fault anything. Friendly, cheerful and accommodating staff, nothing was too much trouble. When we were running late they re-arranged our table for dinner. The room was recently refurbished and really well executed. Spotlessly clean. Very dog friendly. There is a lovely garden area and a profusion of hanging basket that looked stunning. The pub is centrally located with free parking. Local beer was excellent. Food was superb, well presented and great value. Character bar area that was well stocked. Thanks so much to the staff who made our stay so enjoyable.

Perfect place to stay with friends. Booked the hotel for myself and two friends so that we could fish locally. Rooms were slightly dated, but really clean. Let down slightly by uncomfortable mattress and pillows, however this might be personal preference. The food really impressed, we had two very enjoyable meals. Simple food done really well with excellent service. Everyone was very friendly.
