Very pleasant stay. Food was great, vegetables cooked rather than just hot. Only bit that jarred was the noise echoing around the restaurant and breakfast room when busy. Modern minimalist styles with very little soft furnishings might suit some but we prefer not having to shout at each other during a meal.

The staff were nice. The room was nice however I would say the food is good but overpriced and the bar prices are extremely expensive for a rural bed-and-breakfast, almost 8 pounds for a pint of lager seems excessive.

A comfortable stay in a very pretty village
The Castle Inn Hotel is in a lovely quiet picturesque village. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Our room was small but clean and had an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe. There was one chair, a small table and two nightstands. The ensuite bathroom was clean with a good hot shower, but it took up the whole of what would have been quite a large bedroom window at that end of the room. There was one other small window in the bedroom area so the room was quite dark without the lights on. While it was great that the hotel is eco conscious, the problem with the bathroom light being movement reactive, meant that there was no way to switch it off before entering and closing the door, so my husband was woken up by a bright beam from the bathroom light in the middle of the night. Apart from that it was a pleasant stay and the restaurant was good except for the food being rather too salty for my taste.

We have stayed here a couple of times in the past. They have just finished a refurb and were also filming an episode of \"The Hotel Inspector\" so there were some restrictions but as ever the staff were great and the welcome was warm. The food was as good as on previous visits. However it was a little noisy at times and a few distractions for the staff. We will visit again, I'm sure

Nice location, decor lets it down
Great location, nice building and friendly staff. Booked a standard room as only there for 1 night. I was in the annex The room was compact, but not too small and clean.. Furnishings are dated, but bed was comfortable. The bathroom, if you can call it that was the smallest have ever seen. The sink was absolutely tiny and trying to use the toilet was a challenge due to lack of space.Walls are paper thin, could even hear the next room phone vibrate and doors banging. Not great sleep as ski light above the pillow end of the bed which needs better blind on there. Crammed 4 rooms into a space that isn’t big enough. The dining room decor doesn’t fit the building, way too modern. was very warm at breakfast as was most of the hotel, seemed to have air con in the dining room, but not on. Breakfast was ok as complimentary, would be very disappointed if had paid. Also a very odd conversation with another table being advising only 2 poached eggs left, but fried/scrambled fine which left most of the room slightly confused, how is that possible.

Enjoyable stay for a couple of nights. Great food, both dinner and breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. There isn't a single right angle or level floor in the inn but that just adds to its charm. Hot water takes an age to come through in the bathroom but there is sign to that effect. Would stay again.

But I had problems getting shower going and there was no heating on. Both problems were fixed but there could have been more info. Especially as the pub was closed the Sunday evening I arrived so no help available.

The Inn is in a lovely location. We were disappointed however on arrival when we were charged for a second night even though we were booked for one. Our room was in the eaves, very snall and the window was too high to look out from. The shower was terrible - either icy cold or scalding hot.
The food served at the hotel was delicious - no complaints there.
Overall though a disappointing stay for the price - over £200 for one nighy. It wasnt worth it.

Stayed for a wedding and since it was on a Friday night it was double the price of the night before. Seems extreme! Village is very picturesque. My room was in a building separate to the pub which was possibly quieter. It’s all old so sound proofing isn’t a thing. My double bed was very comfortable but the room was quite small. Bathroom showing signs of age. Good selection for tea/coffee in room.

Public area of The Castle Inn was better than the private. Food was very good. Room was acceptable but not very comfortable. Bed was past its sell by date. Noise from floor above was annoying. Squeaking floorboards late at night and early morning. Possibly staff? Shower took a long time to deliver hot water. Old building, so guess it’s a long way for it to travel! Not on my return list.

Really good value for money, nice room, excellent breakfast. My vegetarian breakfast was pipping hot and delicious, so really enjoyed it. Very pleased to see decaffeinated tea offered in the room. The only downside was noisy doors from neighbouring rooms in the Cottage, but this settled down by 10pm.

Really attractive carpark with motion sensor lights, really nice upkeep on outside of pub-village is gorgeous! Bedrooms up flight of stairs-not good for mobility issues. Beams above head,& my queen bed was 2 single pushed together-didn't love that, sheets were quality but quite hard mattresses. Sky tv free in room that was excellent. Thought dinner was overpriced (16 for pasta, 29 for steak,it's pub not michelin) I went nextdoor (curry house-avoid!) They took a creditcard on checkin but I paid upfront on hotels.com&I have no idea why they did that? You can tell it is a small personal family run place-I loved that. It was reasonably clean,I did find some hairs in bathroom, so they need to address with the cleaning team. What I LOVED: Sky tv&movies, they will give you milk in a jug instead of the annoying uht milk for your tea&coffee in room, WHICH IS GENIUS! they provide decaf teabags-genius,lovely cookies in room,there is desk in room, they provide decent hairdryer & ironing board,carpet was hoovered right up to the wall -I could see the lines. What I didn't love, I didn't get a really warm welcome,I would have liked to know the menu was on the website, only found that out at brekkie.My brekkie was overcooked(but was good quality) No1 said bye to me. The windows thin (road noise,but it's a really old place&prob listed laws apply BUT curtains let lots blue light from pub sign,I travel with earplugs&eyemask so I slept well despite that. Huge shower and bathroom in the garden room we had and a sky tv was a lovely touch for a sports mad man!

I stayed here for an overnight business trip. The room was great, very clean and very modern, particularly the shower room, which was very nice. Sky tv in the rooms is also a bonus. The rooms are separate to the pub itself so were quiet. Breakfast was excellent with a choice from the normal breakfast menu, plus toast, cereals, etc. I will stay again when in that area

Good location and very friendly staff but overall experience let down by poor quality of the bedroom. Dated furnishings and hard beds not of quality shown in photos on booking sites particulraly given that the room was described as superior.

Location, accommodation, food, atmosphere were all excellent. Only issue was not opening window in room (disabled) and as such, it was very warm. The fan helped, but air-con or an external flow of air woudl have helped through the night.

Hotel looked amazing. Room looked cheap. Nasty chipboard furniture. “Double” bed with a big dip in the middle. Paper thin walls so I heard every fart from the room next door. Useless shower with no power and wild temperature fluctuations. Place had an iron but not a steam iron.
To be fair to the owner he emailed asking why I didn’t enjoy my stay and I didn’t hold back. He replied that his hotel didn’t always suit everybody. Seems I was in that category.
So if you like a bad shower, thin walls and an uncomfortable bed with 1970s furniture, book a night here!

The staff were friendly, good humoured and professional. Stayed two nights in room 5 which was fine. Second visit (same week) I stayed two nights in room 15. The 'bathroom' was the width the toilet which had no toilet brush. The tiny shower was of equal width. The small sink (about 7 inches wide) looked like vegetables had been cleaned in it as the bowl and tap were muddy. The bowl was almost cleaned when I washed in it but the tap was still dirty next day even though the bed had been made up. There was a glass shelf above the sink which prevented bending over it to clean teeth. Disappointing as room 5 was good.

Great Medieval Street with Castle and this Inn was Great with Old Sloping Floors.Drove 150 for Concert in Brighton which was cancelled so we just stayed at Hotel had Great Food including Breakfast the next day.I want to compliment the Very Hard Working Staff I think There should have been More people to Help on this Sunday Morning.

First room in bew build basement room no wibdows very claustrophobic next room in old part pub toiiet broken moved twice more. Thatvroom comfortable stafc seemed overwhelmed trying to deal with a wedding as well .went for meal downstairs no tabkes wedding guests everywhere went next door to Indian restaurant .
On return management had left some champagne to say sorry and breakfast was very good next morning just think they couldn't cope with tge wedding too.
