The grounds of the Mae’s Manor are beautiful. The staff were friendly. The hotel itself is very dated and in need of new paint and furniture. Our shower had no pressure and some mold. The towels and sheets were nice and clean though.

On arrival the receptionist was rude to one of us. We had 2 rooms, one had no cold water to the basin, the mattress was soft you tended to fall through it and the shower mixer was faulty so that you had water flowing from shower head and from the tap.
The other room had no hot water to the basin.
Breakfast was reasonable but every morning we had to ask for condiments. Generally the standard of service was poor. We all felt that hotel and our rooms in particular looked tired,needing freshening up.
Finally, when checking out we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay.

What a lovely place, we had a really late check-in and was handed keys from a lovely friendly night porter. The room was very clean and comfortable and after a much needed sleep I had a lovely breakfast. I should mention that I hadn't booked for the breakfast which I should have done the night before and the receptionist went above and beyond to get me in. I had very low blood sugar that morning and needed to eat which I didn't mention so was very grateful for her efforts. I would definitely stay again if in Wales and explore the beautiful grounds

Old tired hotel with poor service

Waited 20 mins at an empty reception desk whilst the receptionist did a pitch to potential wedding guests.

The room, number 30 in the coach house was terrible. Cigarette burns all over the carper the bed was older than me its was a terribly hot day and the room had no fan or air con.

When asked about dinner plans all they had to offer was a roast dinner on a 30 degrees day. So ended up going out to a local restaurant for dinner

The coach house resembles a haunted house. The venue is old tired and need renovation even the electrics are done to a cheap standard with trunking all over the walls, worst hotel ive stayed in 10 years

No staff on reception desk when we arrived, waited 20-30 minutes before getting room keys.

Booked the ‘midweek roast’ for Wednesday evening to be told that they had an apron that evening too. Staff checked with the chef and we were told that we could have the roast between 6pm and 7.30pm, we booked the 6.30 slot - then on the Wednesday evening (6.20pm) we were informed that the chef wasn’t doing the roast due to the prom.
Leaving us to find last minute alternative eating arrangements.
Also every time we tried to use the bar in the evenings, there were no staff present causing a 20 minute wait o be served.
Will not be going back!

Hot day of 28c so room was red hot on arrival. No air con or fan so very stuffy as windows closed also.
Windows left open all nighttoctry to cool down
No restaurant also open due to a function so ate at pub at bottom of the hill . Very good food and.welcome .

Cooked breakfast however was excellent quality and variation.

Pleasant staff but rooms arent great

The hotel is very basic, the corridors in the coach house smell fusty and its quite run down, but lacking character. The rooms are basic but the beds are incredibly uncomfortable and really difficult to sleep on. Staff were welcoming and polite but the hotel needs modernising and looking after. Not great value for money.

The staff were lovely and very helpful but the Manor itself was very dated, the wallpaper was peeling, carpet coming up. Could feel the springs in the bed.
Also, there was a leak in the shower so we were asked not to use it.
Lastly, the breakfast was not great, the bread was mouldy so could not have toast.

Beautiful location, we had booked room 19 however this needs a total refurbishment. Paint peeling, holes in floor tiles, dirty running water in the bath, basin taps moved if you turned them, TV crooked on the wall. The Breakfast was poor. Food had been left out for a long time so was cold. Not much choice although the the staff did replace what you wanted. The hotel and it's lawn/garden areas needs to be revamped as could be a stunning location for weddings, staff were helpful but the condition of the hotel was disappointing.

Very disappointing for at cost

When I arrived no one on reception took me ten mins to find a member of staff who only worked on tge bar and couldn’t help me locate tge recption team member I then had to spend yet another ten minutes wandering tge tge ground floor of hotel to finally bump into another bar member at a different bar who new where tge person was and went to get him the it took 10 mins to fill in the documents and received key after having to pay for extras. I was now in a rush to get to my job on time which put extra stress and pressure on me. Then when got back after work got to room it was like a boiler room far too hot uncomfortable. Opened windows but then was too noisy from the stranglers of the wedding guests still outside. The bed and pillows well if you could call them pillow s that is awesome bed felt ok sleeping on a rock. Got woken up at 645 due to loud fans I presumed from the kitchen extractors. Shower barley worked was like a trickle of water. The best bit of the whole stay way the breakfast which I had to pay extra for

We stayed 2 nights for a funeral. The first room we were given was filthy and the shower didn't work. Reception promptly gave us the keys to another room to see if that would suit us better, no apologies given, but obvious acceptance. 2nd room still dirty but not as dirty as the first and it had a shower that actually turned on (a trickle - but better than nothing!), we had just driven over 7 hours to get here to accepted the room.
The whole manor and coach house is dated but holds great potential, all serving and bar staff were fabulous and friendly, and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. A huge positive was the food at dinner. IT. WAS. FANTASTIC! Well done to the chef for dinner Sunday 25th September 2022.

The only thing that was up to standard was the breakfast
Room shabby out dated and neither of the radiators worked in my room and it was freezing !! Very small TV with a bad signal meaning the television kept going on and off and the shower had very weak water pressure so overall wasn’t up to the standard expected .. but you learn your lessons in life so won’t be using that hotel again and definitely won’t recommend it to friends

Great location great staff but poor hotel interior

This may once have been a lovely hotel but the only thing that saves it now is the lovely staff who try very hard. My room was very 'tired', had been revamped at some point with a cheap wooden floor but it just made it feel cold and so many things were wrong that were too many to list. It all just felt grubby and cheap. Went down to breakfast in the morning which was booked and paid for, spent 10 minutes waiting then had to leave as no one came and I had a work appointment. The staff on reception were really helpful and kind bringing me things that were missing, hairdryer, toilet rolls!!! but I'm afraid I would not stay here again. Beautiful grounds and the food was ok but I did not enjoy being sat on my own facing into a 50th birthday party. (awkward!).

Perfect for budget one night sight seeing stay!

Sadly there was a gas problem so no meals were available. They did offer continental breakfast though. We had 2 loft rooms, bathrooms need a bit of work, weather was about 19 and room was not too hot. The windows were open on arrival everything clean. Price reasonable for a one night stay and see some sights in the area it is perfect.

The hotel from the outside very nice
Bar and restaurant very nice
But my room, the top of the house ,lacking in space, no hangers (but it was rectified after 3days)pillows that have seen better days and lacking of furniture in the bathroom
Management was apologetic and did offer achange of room but I declined as I was 3 days into a 4 day stay
But the bar and restaurant staff were friendly
I can't judge all the rooms compared to my own , as that would be unfair, but I would say overnight and not a week

Charming old hotel

Attended a Motown night so stayed over 2 nights.
Had room 20 which is normally let as one of the 3 “bridal” rooms. It was very nice with a big shower & big white towels. There’s two sofas and two chairs in the room which is huge. This is an old building with led windows which are droughty but this room is so big with window shutters and heavy drapes it didn’t bother us. Pillows & mattress needs upgrading but the new staff are trying hard to breathe new life into this charming old hotel.
The decor needs upgrading but it was clean. For the price with breakfast it’s pretty cheap.
Breakfast was spot on. Hugh the chef knows what he’s doing. They catered for my husbands 60th birthday the day after & it was great! Chef & staff did a fabulous job. Chef went the extra mile by putting on food in the day as several guests had arrived really early.
We had a hog roast at the party which everyone thought was superb! Chef had done 3 variants of pork, the “best pork crackling”, huge bread rolls, apple sauce, rice, stuffing, potatoes & chips. Kids coujons.
Becca the coordinator knows her stuff. Everyone had a good time- it was a perfect night.

Breakfast needed two waitresses on as we’d practically booked out the hotel-well over 30 hungry guests.It’s no reflection on the serving staff that people had to wait for food & crockery but it’s for management to get staffing right. Having said that the receptionist & housekeeping came to the rescue.
Still a way to go but getting there!

The welcome to the hotel on checking was very nice which is the only positive feedback I can give.
The bar area is so unwelcoming and old, tired and without any character or atmosphere, no good tables and chairs to eat at, I ordered a steak and ale pie, what I got was a bowl of old stew with grey peas and carrots in it, a frozen pastry lid which was hardly cooked, I hate chefs (cooks) and places like this who think this is acceptable, the bed was uncomfortable and the bedding cheap quality, whoever owns this hotel does not care about their business or has no hospitality experience.
I stayed at another hotel the following night and it was so incredibly different with great food, atmosphere and comfortable rooms.

Booked a 2 night stay in a family room. Room had extension leads left causing a trip hazard. Internal electric wires visible on extension cable, every electrical PAT test on the items in the room were nearly 2.5 years out of date (should be done yearly). Mould on the ceilings, scrapes on the walls and chips to all of the furniture as well as broken windows taped up. Despite advertised the room was not made up.

On top of this (not the hotels fault) but others guests at the hotel for a wedding started a fight during the early hours waking everyone else up, and the next morning a strong smell of cannabis in the hallways. Not happy.

This hotel has such potential. Set in beautiful surroundings but sadly needs upgrading. There was a broken window in pur room just taped up and the decor is a bit dreary. It was very difficult to find staff but when someone did appear they were friendly and welcoming. The food was good. Drinks expensive. Overall it was an ok stay.

hotel in amazing location, building looks great. Bedroom we stayed in was tired but clean, shower shampoo dispenser empty, WIFI was slow, bed was comfy, bar food was great, staff were good but need to be a bit more attentive, we stood in an empty bar for 10 minutes before we found somebody to serve us. Overall a nice stay and would go back if guaranteed a nicer room. TV small.

The hotel was in poor condition and looked like it could do with a good clean throughout.
On arrival which was just before 9 pm I had to go searching for a member of staff to book me in and was advised that the kitchen had closed luckily I had already eaten.
The staff were very young and inexperienced. Plus points are the views from the garden are fantastic and the breakfast was good.
