Historic Charm

Amazing location, unique rooms with historic charm. We stayed in an apartment style room located in the lower areas of Monemvasia, below the Stellaki Mansion. The best way to describe the room is - fancy wine cellar. We had access to an upper level courtyard which was very pretty with potted plants and seating, however no sea views from our room or courtyard. Though we grew to love the room I was originally disappointed to not have a sea view. This was probably an error made on my end. Based on photos of the rooms when booking I wrongly assumed that all the rooms had sea views/terraces. So if having a sea view is important to you make sure to read the room descriptions closely when booking. Even though we didn’t have the view in our room it really wasn’t a big deal and we were out exploring most of the time anyways! The staff was very friendly and the included breakfast was excellent and served in a beautiful building with outdoor terraces with garden and sea views. Overall we had an amazing experience and would highly recommend staying in any of the rooms available! Note: all of Monemvasia is walking only with very uneven stone streets and lots of stairs, consider that when packing bags. I would recommend backpack style carry-on size/overnight bags vs rolling suitcases; and definitely no heavy large bags.

Wow. What an experience staying in the Staliki Mansion with the balcony that we practically lived on. You need to come with an adventurous spirit and running shoes as you must do a lot of walking on cobblestones and staircases to go everywhere. This is an epic experience!

Wonderful stay

We loved everything about it. We had a room with a balcony overlooking Monemvasia and the ocean. Stunning. Parking is along the road that connects Monemvasia to the mainland. This is where EVERYONE parks. The reception is right inside the castle walls but it could be a bit of a walk from there on cobblestones depending where your room is. Breakfast is fantastic and everyone is so nice and helpful.

The hotel seems very nice. It’s pretty unique. The breakfast is excellent. The common areas are beautiful. The reason we didn’t have a great experience was because the room we got was tiny - barely enough space to move around with 2 pieces of luggage. Tiny bathroom. It looks like a staff room actually rather then tourist accommodations. I’m not sure whether we somehow overlooked the size of the room when we made a reservation. Usually, we pay attention to that. Unfortunately, there is no way to confirm whether the room we were given was the one we booked.

Unique and memorable stay.

Stayed here with a group and booked 2 rooms for 4 nights. The location is beautiful and unique, rooms were large and clean and had amazing views out to the sea. Host checking us in was great and breakfast was amazing. Because of it's uniqueness and location a couple things to be aware of are parking can be hard to find so might have to park near the mainland and walk for about 15 minutes to the castle and could be difficult carrying luggage to the rooms with the stone alleys and steps. Overall a great stay in the Castle with many things to do in the surrounding area. Would stay again.

Plusieurs hotels portent le meme nom. Nous avons cherché en tournant dans toutes les ruelles de la vieille ville. En fait il faut passer au bureau à l'entrée de la vieille ville et une hotesse vous accompagne a la chambre. Très décue de la chambre sans lumiere loin de ce que l'on voit sur les photos. Très bruyant si vous avez des locataires au dessus car tres vieux. Bref je ne recommande pas cet hotel.

Monemvasia is such a unique setting that it is hard to compare with any others. Beware because it is a lot of walking over cobblestone streets and steps with considerable elevations, depending on your unit. (Don't bring a wheeled suitcase. You'll quickly regret it. Pack a duffle for your stay) But for a property that dates back hundreds of years yet still offers modern conveniences this cannot be beat. And that's without talking about the sheer beauty of the setting itself. We loved it and would go back tomorrow if we could. It was part of an 11 day swing through the Pellopenese. If that's part of your plan, don't miss it and the Malvasia is the perfect option.

Loved it here!

My stay at Malvasia was wonderful. Since I stayed during the low season they upgraded my room to a sea view which was very nice. The breakfast spread is incredible. Definitely one of the best breakfasts while I had in Greece. The room itself was super nice and warm and the bed was very comfortable. My only complaint is that you stay inside a walled, castle city which is incredible, but that means you have to park your car outside of it and it can be quite a trek to bring your luggage in and they do not have a service for that. You would have to pay someone to do that for you. Otherwise it was great and Monemvasia in general was such a cool place to visit.

They can arrange help carrying your luggage to your room if desired. Free breakfast included was very delicious with lots of options. Highly recommend - We will be returning!

Unique medieval village with modern comforts

Wonderful weekend in Monemvasia. Reception for the Malvasia Hotel (housed in several different buildings) is on the main pathway after entering the walled village. I was shown to a very nice apartment close to the water, where swimming off the rocks proved a refreshing ending to a day of walking around the stony lanes and up to the fortress and Agia Sofia church. A large breakfast is served in a building and terrace overlooking the sea.
Although multiple locations sounds inconvenient, the walled town is very small and can be traversed in a few minutes on foot. Having said that, those with mobility problems will have difficulty with the uneven cobbles and steps. But it's a fascinating place to walk around. Plenty of nice places to enjoy the views and medieval atmosphere over a glass of local wine.

Nice cosy hotel. Our room had a balcony with sea view but unfortunately was on the ground floor next to the main street, so no privacy. The whole feel of Monemvasia including the hotel rooms is take you to the medieval ages in a good way, which is great experience! Good breakfast. Ok service without a smile. There is a cafe next door with great views!

Clean, comfy, beautiful room and fab breakfast

All health and safety regulations were being followed, with staff masked, rooms disinfected, hand sanitizer available everywhere, and a lot of procedures at breakfast to keep everything sanitary. But we never felt anxious—it made us feel reassured. Our room was number 15, which was large, lovely, clean and comfortable. It is a long-ish walk to the entrance from this particular room (the hotel owns several buildings within the fortress) but directly opposite the breakfast room. If you have any disabilities do let them know at booking, since at this centuries-old fortress it’s not always easily accessible. The one hitch was my husband is rather tall, and the room uses much of the original stone architecture including the door lintels. Upshot is he banged his head quite a few times! The breakfast was spectacular, with freshly pressed orange juice, eggs and bacon, a large dish of freshly baked pastries and a basket of bread, plus different treats for variety every day. We loved our stay and wished we could be there longer.

Very nice place. Of note, the bed was comfortable to the point where I actually slept through the night (first time in about 15 years for me), luxurious shower, great little patio off our room, fridge to store our food. Delicious breakfast in the AM. Would recommend. We did contemplate changing our reservation date last minute but could not get ahold the hotel by phone (would be my only criticism). In the end we kept the date and it worked out better actually.

It is a wonderful experience. We parked the car and unloaded our luggage at the gate. Then we parked the car at the end of road (about 0.3 mile). We had a studio with 1 double bed, 2 twin beds and a living room with a shared balcony (similar to the picture). The location is great. I would like to come back.

Nice hotel - totally unorganized

A nice hotel, with great location and views. Great room design and room materials, average size of rooms and good breakfast (breakfast time should be more than 2 hours).

On the other hand, the service was a disaster. Make sure that you look for a multi-property reception before the hotel, or you will have to go back and forth in order to check-in.

Nice, stand alone old town apartment

This is not a hotel but rather a partnership of rooms/apartments around town. Mine was about 40 steps down from the main alley, 2 minutes away from the reception shop, close to and down from the town gate, and must carry luggage down/up. Very quaint, old stone building, but on 2 levels with a tiny winding staircase to the bedroom with a minuscule shower/toilet room. All of lower town alleys are winding with steps. Good bed, WiFi and air con.

Peaceful stay in most unusual location

Superb location. Plenty of restaurants /cafes in locality. Room good and great breakfast provision. Great for stay within the walled city but cobbled pathways not for the elderly / those with mobility problems. Easy stroll to car park at bottom of hill if unable to park at roadside.

NB not for the unfit as the hotel is located at the far east of Monemvasia peninsular annd the walk from the town gate is atmospheric but on cobbles and inclines.

A beautiful getaway

My wife daughter and I enjoyed a magnificent 2 night stay here in May. The room was on the right side of quaint, with a generous amount of space, great furniture, and modern amenities (and the largest shower space in Greece) and a spectacular sea view from our \"partial sea-view\" room. Our greeting at check-in late in the day was flawless with much appreciated baggage assistance and a nice personal touch. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful with a good selection and some of the best coffee we had in our 3 weeks in Greece. The town of Monemvasia is spectacular in of itself, but our stay with the folks at Malvasia only enhanced the experience. Visit this beautiful (and under appreciated) part of Greece, stay at the Malvasia and you will NOT be disappointed.

We only stayed one night here whilst visiting the area. Monemvasia Is a must do if you are in the area. The cobbled streets, little shops, excellent tavernas and the climb to the church are all thoroughly recommended as is the hotel. The room had uninterrupted views of the sea and village. It was very clean and quiet and the breakfast was to die for. No negatives at all for our stay

The room service and warmth of the staff MUST be improved-we did not feel welcome despite we visited off season(and it was quiet) and this was consistent throughout our stay...staff and owners must change their attitude towards customers...beyond that, a good choice.

Best two days ever. Stay three!

The best stay ever. We stayed in the Stelaki mansion, which is a two bedroom building near the castle entrance. soooo much room. So much ambience. Our kids were in heaven. The view was unparalleled, and we've done a LOT of VRBOS around Europe. Breakfast great, reception amazing. Don't be put off by parking on the causeway and walking for five minutes. It'll be a life long memory. Also, my husband left 500 euros behind and staff was amazing at going back to find it and return it to us! Top notch.

Everything I hoped it would be.

We stayed here for my birthday and romantic getaway and it was the perfect hotel. Romantic, traditional style, amazing service, and delicious breakfast in the courtyard. Our \"standard double room - Sea view\" had four windows, two facing the sea (the other two with gorgeous city view), and was very large. It even had a small table and two chairs and a fireplace. The decor was a perfect mixture of modern and traditional. The hotel was very quiet and we didn't hear anything from our room. The owner lady was friendly, helpful and spoke English very well. This hotel and Monemvasia were definite highlights in our 3-week Greece trip!

Amazing, breathtaking room and location!!

Room couldn't have been more comfortable. Every detail is perfect, and our private terrace was to die for! Be sure to pack light or leave some items in your car trunk because you have to carry your luggage through the castle to your room. Wheels on suitcases can't handle the cobblestones. You could shoot Game of Thrones here!!

Amazing views and atmospheres and the best breakfast in Greece by far ! We stayed at many hotels and no-one came close to this hotel and its breakfast. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone. If you can have the room with private balcony it is best.

Beautiful hotel in a wonderful spot. Just be careful that all of the doorways seem to be different heights with stone lintels. It's very easy to crack your head on one in the dark.
