Fantastic location and the view of the ocean from our room. Breakfast was super good, the best one during our trip in Greece. The property is not new and there was some smell of old wood in the room. I hoped to use the fireplace as it was cold outside but they didn’t have wood, so it was disappointing.

An amazing experience

We hired the family room that sleeps 5. Good bathroom and comfortable living area. The kids loved living within the walls of the Castro which was an amazing experience. The views are breathtaking. The staff were super friendly and accommodating and looked after us well. Highly recommend.

This is a very nice hotel with lots of character right in the fortified town. However, if you have any mobility problems the hotel’s location and rooms may be a challenge. Lots of uneven walking and stairs and our room had some steep stairs in it and was a little difficult to get around in. Parking is on the road and you’ll have to walk about 300 metres to get to the hotel inside the old town.

Monemvasia is really an interesting, beautiful location. Be aware that this is not convenient - there's a long walk into any hotel there and lots of stairs.

We loved our stay here. It really is like staying in a castle. Definitely go for the view rooms if one is available. The breakfast was plentiful and full of choices unique to Greece. Plan to have a drink at the bar. Don’t stay here if you have difficulty with climbing. Lots of steep stone stairs.

We loved our time there, even though we had bad coughs and colds the whole time! We had finished a 2-week trip with friends in Turkey and Greece, and this was our special \"couple time\" to celebrate a big anniversary - but we had gotten sick the week before. Still, Jimmy and the staff at the hotel did a WONDERFUL job providing and caring for us, and it was such a special time. I couldn't recommend a hotel higher! And if you're going to be stuck in bed, this is the place to be. :-)

It's a nice hotel but not accessible. There are many stairs to get around the hotel with no lift and the walkways inside the town consist of slippery stones and many stairs as well. The staff were friendly and the room was clean and comfortable. The WiFi didn't work most of the three days we stayed there and nobody at the hotel knew why it wouldn't work. Parking is a bit of a hassle because you can't drive to the hotel so you have to find parking along the road outside the castle walls or park in a parking lot on the other side of the bridge and it's about a 20 walk uphill unless you can find a shuttle for 2 euros per person or find a taxi which there were not many of. Expedia also provided a receipt saying my hotel was prepaid and the only money owning was 9 euros for taxes, however Expedia did not charge my card (which was originally quoted in CAD) so I had to pay the hotel in Euros so the cost ended up being quite a bit more since it wasn't at the originally exchange rate that I had booked at. Apparently the hotel is aware of this problem and it happens to all their bookings with Expedia so I want overly impressed that it's a known issue that they aren't working to correct. Overall it was a nice stay even though there were a few hiccups.

Jimmy at the front was very friend as was Dousa (sp?) who made a wonderful breakfast wvery morning. The gentleman in the snack/coffee bar also makes wonderful smoothies. The views from the hotel are incredible. Staying inside the castle walls is definitely memorable -I will be back.

Magical! Stay in the castle. It is an experience like no other. Great breakfast with eggs, sausage, yogurt and baked treats. Everyone was so cheerful and helpful. Only downside was the parking. Even off season, it was quite a distance and you carry your luggage over cobblestones inside castle. There re numerous steps to navigate BUT. We’ll worth the effort.

Infested with Woodlice!

I appreciate the location of this hotel but to have over 200 dead and alive woodlouse in your room is not acceptable. It was infested! Upon arrival we were shown our room and the man just kicked the dead ones aside and shrugged his shoulders. It was like the room had never been swept. They were in the bed, towels EVERYWHERE!
The breakfast was poor, worse than any I have experienced in my 30 years of travelling to Greece.
There was a slight confusion at check out and the way it was dealt with was atrocious. The man at reception was nothing short obnoxious. Location is great but I would avoid at all costs.

Bastione Malvasia is a good hotel in Monemvasia. The property is at the end of township and has lots of character, but is a little tired. The included breakfast was great. The only thing lacking was tea/coffee facilities in the room.

Room needs reifurbishment in all furniture beds and for sure the bathroom. The bathroom is unaceptable in this price. Black mold , spiders , and other crawling insects.

This hotel is part of the Monemvasia castle. We had the room at the top, it was small but very comfortable with a master bedroom and two kids beds in an attic. It was cozy, safe, clean and a lifetime experience. Wonderful !

The hotel is perched on the side of the cliff overlooking the ocean which is just idyllic. The room was a good size and very comfortable, with a small fridge, air conditioning and small but ample bathroom. Didn’t have the breakfast. All staff were lovely and helpful. There’s a bar adjoining with tables and chairs outside overlooking the ocean.

Good choice for romantic and unique stay

The hotel is built from renovated stone buildings within the old Byzantine city. The rooms are small but comfortable, with modern conveniences like A/C. Breakfast was good with a variety of hot and cold options. Only negative was a strange smell in the bathroom, which was fine when we kept the door closed, but we didn’t feel comfortable drinking the water and had to buy bottles from the room downstairs.

end of the road and worth the walk!

Bastione Malvasia is an amazing property in a magical place. Beautiful pristine rooms have architectural elements of the historic town, comfortable beds, international TV and all the little comforts that make a stay nice. Breakfast is delicious with many options, and service is always top-notch. The hotel is the very last property on the east end of the rock, right up next to the far eastern wall of Lower Town, making a stay here private and quiet. While this makes the walk from the gate to the hotel the longest, it really isn't far and the walk is too charming to dislike. However we did not realize that our car would be not only outside the town's gate but almost back to the causeway in single file day tripper parking along the side of the road. While this is free (provided someone is leaving and opens up a space) we were leaving almost all of our belongings (for a month in Greece) in our car to make a light load to the hotel, and we were concerned about the lack of security and convenient access. The hotel has no play in parking, as all hotels have the same situation, but we didn't realize it at booking and want to pass a cautionary note to anyone who needs access to their car. There was no issue when we returned at the end of our stay, and the narrow road and constant traffic may be security features in themselves. We were thrilled to have so thoroughly enjoyed Monemvasia and our wonderful stay and have no issue in departing. Definitely recommend!

The location at the far end of Monemvasia was quiet, though of course took longer to get to. The hotel itself is nice. Our room was comfortable. There were a lot of stairs up and down and through passages to get to it, but that's part of the charm. The breakfast was varied and tasty. The bathroom layout was odd and difficult to use, and the toilet seat cracked (ouch!). The hotel was as expected, and Monemvasia itself exceeded our expectations, so we were happy with our choice. Parking is impossible so take the shuttle.

Breath taking property. We would have stayed an extra night if they had the availability. This hotel is located behind the medieval castle walls of Monemvasia. All properties behind the castle walls blend beautifully with the original architecture of the castle. The hotel is steps away from key restaurants and shops. Like all hotels in the castle there is no parking. Parking is available about 500 m away from the castle area. It is worth the 12 to 15 minute walk to the hotel. You are able to drop off your baggage in front of the castle walls and drive back to the parking. Rooms were a good size and very clean. Great for family. Be sure to work comfortable shoes to make your way through the cobblestone roads especially if you plan on making the hike up to the main castle… It is very steep but one of the most picturesque spots in the country

Great hotel in an incredible location

Fabulous hotel, hospitable proprietors, incredible location. Great breakfast, too.
I stayed for four nights and didn't want to leave. This is the perfect place to unwind from modern life, to get into the rhythm of Greece, and to enjoy a UNESCO World Heritage site from the inside. I'll be back!
One tip: this hotel is at the far end of town, so pack lightly and be prepared to huff your bags though about half a mile of cobblestone streets. And bring a swimsuit: there are two places to swim in Monemvasia itself.

Great choice for spending nights in Monemvasia

Bastione Malvasia is a picturesque, nice hotel at the end of the main pathway in Monemvasia, overlooking a good portion of the surrounding walls and houses. Monemvasia in general is not that big and doesn't take a lot of time to visit all the attractions. There are various little shops to see, as well as some restaurants and bars. Going to the castle at the top takes a good 10-minute uphill walk to reach and is not for the faint-hearted due to the height. Visiting by car can be problematic as you can only park outside of the \"city\" along the 1km-long road; it's usually occupied and you'll be struggling to find a spot, especially in high-season in August. The driver can drop off people at the gate, but then might be forced to park at the beginning the road and walk all the way back.

All in all, if you wish to spend 2-3 nights in Monemvasia then Bastione Malvasia is a great choice.

We commenced our greek experience in Athens, from there we started driving visiting different cities. First Delphi, Olympia. Kalamata,kardamyli and when we arrived to Monemvassia our jaws dropped.... wow wow wow. Let me just share this when the own greeks say “ it is the most beautiful town” then you know it is. Good for the health and soul, if you ever go make sure you climb ti the castle... enjoy

Located at the far end of town, up the hill and away from the waterfront. Lovely views overlooking Lower town, facing the sea. Nice balcony in our room. Unfortunately, Wi-Fi was malfunctioning when we stayed, and we could only obtain Wi-Fi service at the reception area and in the breakfast room. A good breakfast is served in a nice setting overlooking the town.

We had a \"Superior Triple With Sea View\". Our room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was spectacular in that it was in cave-like room. The beds were comfortable and there were many restaurants within easy walking distance. My wife and I had backpacks, but my son was traveling heavy and had to carry a heavy bag quite a distance from the entry gate to Monemvasia. I might have booked something closer to the gate had I known that bags had to be carried the entire way. Although I really liked our room, the \"sea view\" wasn't worth it (no balcony or large windows - just a couple of small ones that were a bit pointless). The staff were all very friendly.

Adorable hotel at the far end of the main street in Monemvasia. Rooms vary in size, so if you are big or tall, make sure to get a room where you will be comfortable. Wonderful views from the patio where you can get coffee or drinks. Excellent buffet breakfast included in room price. Pack light since you will have to carry your bags a long way. Best bet is parking on the mainland and taking the shuttle bus to the main gates of the town. Then proceed on foot to the hotel. Follow signs for Malvasia Hotel, not Bastione.

Great views, pleasant hotel

This is a fantastic hotel. The only thing is that it is quite far from the entrance. I wish someone had recommended not to bring the entire suitcase but only pack an overnight bag. The staff was nice and the breakfast good. The views are phenomenal. I stayed in a triple room because I wanted more space for my son and myself. The beds were a bit hard for me.
