This stay five was out of this world. This is a historic castle that has amazing public areas and the private rooms are warm and inviting. Staff was helpful and hands off unless you needed assistance, the main dining room had French service and breakfast in the solarium was a great start to our day. They even had had a visit from Santa and an albino wallabe.

The hotel is amazing and beautiful. Just like the pictures. The staff is excellent and attentive. The dining experience was wonderful. Golf on property is a bit lacking with dirty carts, not enough rental clubs but the staff was nice and the course was lovely.

The waterford castle did not disappoint! Beautiful property, ferry ride over to the private island and a friendly staff ready to tell you all about the wallabies and deer that share the island! The castle is gorgeous and the food is fine dining at its best! It is a true old castle so expect authenticity and a minor reduction in modern day amenities, but also know it is absolutely worth it! This stay made our trip highly memorable!

Very beautiful castle hotel and property. It's on its own island and a free ferry brings you across the small river. Lovely. Food is fantastic. Extensive Breakfast is included (except my cappuccino). Staff is great. Romantic. There are large, modern \"cottages\" (like townhouses) for families or bigger groups.

The room was not as expected. Carpets were very dirty, a few walls showed water damage and the bathroom had no curtains for privacy had to do makeshift out of luggage and clothes. I was surprised by the overall lack of upkeep for our suite, expected more from a luxury hotel for the money. Staff was excellent though!

The castle was amazing. The service at the restaurant was poor. Out of several bottle of wine we ordered and slow service. Food was ok. The pigeon was the best part. We only ordered one desert, but we were charged for 2 three-course meals. We were undercharged due to a server hitting the wrong button on the machine, but then we were hounded later that night and the next day to pay the $70 difference. We left a £30 cash tip and the server pocketed that too. Extremely rude and unprofessional. Not how you treat guests when mistakes are made by the staff.

We stayed at the Waterford castle for 4 nights. Loved every minute of it. Gorgeous views and excellent service. Had breakfast daily in the gorgeous sun room where the meals were especially catered for us. The views from the castle were amazing, beautiful sunsets. Our favorite room was the Rose Suite. Spacious and such a comfortable bed. Staff would go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and to meet your needs. I would recommend staying at Waterford Castle.

The castle and the ground are magnificent and the rooms beautiful. I have traveled extensively over the last 40 years, and then that time I have had no finer meal, then was served at the castle for dinner. Clearly the work of one of the finest chefs imaginable.

We've been traveling in Italy for thirteen days and now in Ireland for another nine days. The Waterford Castle has been by far the best hotel we've stayed in regardless of price (Rome was more expensive). The dinner was perhaps the best meal, all things considered we've ever had and I've traveled all over the world. If you want a unique experience where you will be spoiled beyond your expectations, book the Waterford Castle.

Our room had an old style claw tub and the shower was an old style ring with a shower curtain that wrapped around you. Although very nostalgic, not practical. For such a luxurious hotel, in this day and age, the wifi was terrible. Beautiful hotel, beautiful grounds, and the staff are exceptional, but way too expensive for what you get.

This is a truly beautiful hotel in a stunning location. It’s a castle so don’t expect all the latest mod-cons. The Restaurant is very good and the food is really top notch. Be warned there is only a ferry to access the hotel, no bridge so don’t arrive too late

The hotel and grounds lovely and nothing to complain about cleanliness or physical condition of facilities. Our 5th hotel on Ireland tour and this one all the service seemed \"transactional\". Checkin and out confusing, last dinner served 7:30, sommelier suggestion for beef course was \"any of our red wines \".
The island location accessible by ferry only is both romantic and isolating.

Fantastic location on a private island on the river suir. Requires a short free car ferry ride which takes 5 mins. Rooms are old world what you'd expect from a castle. Interior very ornate. There's a fabulous fireplace in the reception. I could imagine sitting there on a cold winters night with a couple of hot whiskeys! Staff are very friendly. Afternoon tea and dinner in the dining room were amazing. Overall a great stay and a great old world experience. Will definitely visit again.

Such a beautiful place to stay the night. It’s an actual castle with beautiful grounds, a golf course and a very scenic walk. All the modern conveniences including good WiFi and a big bathroom. You take a ferry across onto the island and to the castle. Dinner was very good. We didn’t have breakfast because we couldn’t get anyone to wait on us so we left to have breakfast in town. That was the only issue with our stay.

The rooms were very nice and clean. The staff was nice until they learned we were staying in the \"villas\" and had an infant with us. Then they ACTUALLY lied by changing their response. They were exceedingly inattentive at dinner and wouldn't give us breakfast that came with room price at the club house!!! Then the maid service was literally waiting outside our villas to get us out of there. We didn't even have all our belongings out before they pushed passed us. Snobbish, rude and especially don't appreciate lying.

We were a group of 3 women on a golf stay away...the lodges were perfect as we each had our own bedroom. Self catering was just the thing as we had our cereals in the lodge and then headed to the golf clubhouse for the most delicious scones and coffee. the ferry was marvellous..every 15 mins so we were able to travel around a bit. Golf course needs a little bit more care but overall good value for money. We chose not to eat in the castle as the choice was limited and had too many courses and quite expensive and the Fitzerald Bar closed for eating too early.Overall: we would definitely return. A Spa would would be the icing on the cake!!

Great customer service, staff was very friendly. Great dinner & great bar. Gorgeous property & grounds. I had work & WiFi issues one day; front desk staff went above & beyond to help me resolve this. Only suggestions, we were staying in the lodges and felt a bit removed, neglected - more effort to make you feel part of the castle would help. Also, we went for a walk one day & on our return our “path” was closed for clay shooting; would have been helpful to put a sign up first before we were diverted & inconvenienced on the way back over the clay shooters. Overall though a fantastic stay!

We stayed at the lodge, not the castle, which was a nice surprise. You are basically staying in a 2-story townhouse adjacent to the golf course. Large kitchen with appliances, family room, 3 bedrooms with baths, washer/dryer, etc.. Very nice if you’re staying for a long weekend or with a big group. Golf course was fun and open until after 10:00 PM, which was a nice surprise. Overall, really liked the property.

There definitely seemed to be a separation from the castle and lodge services from the staff. Restaurant and bar were a little stuffy. Whenever we spoke to staff at the castle, they always said “oh, you’re at the lodge” and seemed to treat you as a second class citizen.

Such a cool place, can't recommend this enough. We stayed in one of the places not in the castle and I'd recommend staying in the castle instead. However the ambiance of the main check in area is amazing. The bar and restaurant are fabulous also. We did not have time to do so but the rates on golf were amazing if you are staying on the property.

Highlight of our Trip

This place put everyone else to shame. We stayed in one of the cottages. There was deer on the greens when we arrived. The apt was wonderful for our family of 5. 3 large double beds and 3 bathrooms plus a kitchen for the family. Honestly wish we would have stayed here longer. If you are on the fence about booking this place, go ahead, you won't regret it.

Unique Island Hotel

The Waterford Castle Hotel complex is quite unique. Most accommodations are down the road from the \"Castle,\" in stand-alone units. Our accommodation was a three bedroom unit with fire-place, w/d, and full kitchen. After a few weeks in hotels, it was great having a kitchen again. It was extraordinarily comfortable for our family of three. The Castle has a restaurant and bar, but we didn't patronize either (one night it was closed due to a wedding). I believe there is also a clubhouse associated with the golf course, and spa. The entire complex is located on an island with around the club ferry service (takes about 15 minutes to cross including waiting time). This hotel is about 15 minutes (drive) from downtown Waterford.
