The idea of turning an old Riad to a hotel is a nice one. Beautiful architecture but the beds, the bath room, the doors into the rooms, the furniture they all need upgrades. You can have the charm but not provide comfort. As nice as the ceiling or the entrance door, etc were, the door to the room was so hard to open and close. The bathroom door wouldn't lock l, the hotel lobby had an old crooked table in the middle of the room, dix these things. It's just unsettling.

Gorgeous, safe and comfortable stay!

We stayed in Tunis for three nights and absolutely loved this beautiful, historic hotel. It was clean, comfortable, and felt very safe. I was specifically looking for a traditional dar experience, and this place was perfect! The hotel staff was friendly and easy to communicate with.

Our room was spacious, clean, and beautifully decorated. The bed was very comfortable, and the room stayed quiet at night, which made for a great sleep. Breakfast was included and was quite good with a variety of pastries, cheeses, eggs yogurt and dried fruit and granola. I also booked a hammam spa experience on our last day—it was very enjoyable and something I’d recommend. You need to book 24 hours in advance. Leave plenty of time for the experience which includes a 30 or 45 min massage, plus hammam and gommage.

We also dined at the hotel restaurant one night, which served a delicious and generous meal. The price was a little higher but it was very convenient for our dinner after a long day of touring.

The hotel is located in the old Medina, so you’ll be dropped off by taxi at a nearby square, and from there it’s just a short walk (less than five minutes) to the entrance. It’s also within walking distance of a lively area where it’s easy to catch a taxi and explore the city’s sights. We booked a day tour through Viator and the guide met us at the hotel.

An impressive place to stay

Positives:
- The location is central, you are straight into the hustle and bustle of the Medina.
- The room I had was clean, comfortable and spacious. The decor is impressive and there is an attention to detail.
- There was wifi in the room and effective temperature control.
- Staff were helpful.
- Breakfast was fresh and plentiful. There was a good selrction. The breakfast room was light and airy and the waitress helpful.

Negatives:
- It was tricky to find initially. Due to travel delays I arrived as it was dark and trying to find my way through the labyrinthine alleyways alone when there were locked gates where I wanted to be was a little intimidating. Not the fault of the hotel, just something to be aware of.
- The design of the hotel means there is little soundproofing. There was loud music until late one night which felt as though it was playing in my room.

Overall the positive outweighed the negatives by a long way and I wouldnt hesitate to stay here again.

Lovely historic former palace in the Medina. Very convenient to walk to the sites in the Medina. Helpful staff. Note, short walk from where a taxi can drop you or where you can park. Decent breakfast.

Lovely former palace in the old medina of Tunis with beautiful spacious rooms. Hotel is not by the road so it's a bit of a walk, slightly difficult to find as well if you do not have a GPS.

Overall, great hotel and room with a great location walking distance to the medina and grand mosque in Tunis.

Beautiful historic building with very elegant and aesthetic decorations. The hammam is gorgeous- quiet, private, clean and so luxurious. One of the best experiences of my vacation.

The staff were very kind, welcoming and accommodating. As a solo female traveller this was one of the hotels where I felt most comfortable.

A very beautiful historic hotel with a perfect location in an old Medina. Very easy to walk to all areas. The restaurant is beautiful and the food is delicious. All employees were very helpful and courteous. The room was very spacious and decorated in French colonial style. The bathroom had a lovely clawed footed tub with hand held shower.

I was not impressed by the condition of rooms, bed was not comfy..mosquitos inside, smelly toilet .noisy air refresher.
When i arrived the receptionist asked for cigaret! When dinning the waiter kept asking personal questions! It was not a pleasant stay at all. With a 110$ i could have had an amazing hotel somewhere else.
Anyway, they need to invest more in educating their staff how to behave (the males mainly).
Food was good btw in their resto.

Attention to cultural authenticity with modern amenities such as washroom. Right in the Medina. Excellent restaurant on premises serving authentic Tunisian food. Dining room is spectacular cave like ambiance. Staff were very hospitable and helpful.

I travel a lot, for work and for fun. But this was one of the worst experiences!
So, lets start with location. Yes, it is in the middle of Medina of Tunis, but I wasn't expecting it to be so dirty. To say dirty is to say nothing!
Room. Blue room, not really cheap, nice colour, nice size. No more remarks with adjective \"nice\". Big bathroom, but so useless. No shower, no space to place your towel, no any shelves for your toilet bag of so. First thing I did in the room - tried to open the second window. It was my mistake - behind the window I found 2.5-3m high mountain of stinky rubbish!
Empty restaurant with an average food. SPA - another dirty place. I didn't dare to enter the pool - water was grey and greasy. I don't want even talk about massage, etc...

I didn’t like my first room. It was dark, not very nice, it seemed very dreary. The water pressure wasn’t good ether. After two nights there they moved me to another room which was much nicer. However the one thing that I found to be very unfortunate is that they charged me for a breakfast daily. I couldn’t pull up my reservation when I arrived so I asked the front desk person if breakfast was included in my rate as I didn’t remember (I always ask just to confirm) and he said it was. He even told me the times. However when I went to check out there was a charge for breakfast there for my entire stay which was very wrong - I try to explain to the woman in the front that he gave me false information but they did not want to help or accommodate in anyway. I didn’t even eat a full breakfast every day, the first day I only had a coffee and a croissant because I didn’t have time to eat. had I known that this was going to be the case I would’ve gotten a much better breakfast in the Medina and paid half the price. I have no problem paying for services rendered but when the hotel gives you false information I find this to be very misleading. And then does not accommodate when you try to explain. As a gold VIP member, I expected more.

The hotel is nice and the tiling of the walls is excellent. It is in the Medina so parking is your own scramble and a few blocks away. The setting for dinner is architecturally spectacular with good live music, but the food was not so great.

A car or taxi cannot get there! Need to carry lugg

Although my time here was short, I have a few things I think would benefit the future traveler.
1. U cannot get to that place by car, the streets are very narrow as it is inside an ancient Medina and the streets are cobble stone. The hotel did not have a dolly or luggage transport and we hadn’t to haul our many bags in.
2. Our room we booked with the one with the golden beds, 2 queen beds, and they tried to pull a fast one saying no we booked the regular room. So after going into the regular room which smelled of mildew to the point you were choking we showed them our email of the confirmation of our upgraded rooms. We also had to haul our luggage up the stairs no elevators and few staff.
3. Food is EXPENSIVE and not tastey or fresh. We came in the morning and they had dishes sitting out all night.
4. Our upgraded room was dirty there was a bath robe belt on a chair which led me to believe that the room was not properly cleaned. We arrived late and we just wanted to rest.
5. Staff is helpful and speaks English although I have stayed at other resorts in Tunis I would suggest four seasons as the price is similar but quality is completely different . I guess 5 stars I. A third world country is suspect
6. Great lighting for photographs etc but those photos posted on website are misleading as the rooms are not as spacious or comfortable as they seem

A beautiful period property, with Italian touches, and marble bathroom fittings. I had the grand suite, with every intricate detail catered for - barber rugs, opulent bedding and restored fixtures and fittings. A most delightful stay.

The rooms were amazing. Huge and very high ceilings. Very traditional and in a beautiful palace. The service was good and breakfast plenty. The location is right in the centre of the Medina. However struggled to find restaurants open at night it is very quite there.

This hotel was beautiful, clean, quiet, atmospheric. Really lovely. Service was nice.
The only SMALL complaint would be the breakfast, which was huge and varied and,way too much food,and for $15 a little pricey.

Beautifully restored palace in the medina

Really enjoyed staying in the heart of the old town. The staff was helpful with transportation, the rooms were clean and full of character. Would recommend it in a heartbeat, with one side note, if you want to be near all the tourist attractions and the beach, this is not the place. That said, taxis are cheap and plenty.

A back alley hotel

Very disappointing and pretentious little hotel trying to be class; and failing. The hotel is in the Medina and thus customers are more or less obliged to stay put, especially in the evenings. The Medina itself offers limited and basic eating facilities unless you are prepared to brave taxis and travel out. The hotel restaurant serves only a few dishes, so after a long stay, the food becomes monotonous. The lack of any alcohol, even a can of beer seemed odd in a tourist hotel (when in Rome?).

The hotel is rambling and cold. The lack of adequate space heaters makes this a difficult stay, especially for the young and elderly.

Watch out when you pay your bill. I was double charges on a coupe of breakfasts and overcharged on the others. How a croissant and coffee equates to $14, I fail to understand.

Good luck all who enter here .... I will not be back.

Lots of charm, but little else.

The hotel is a converted pasha's palace, retaining a considerable amount of charm, pleasing decor, and ambiance. However, it is uncomfortable and erratically furnished. The public spaces are extremely cold, and where there are heating units, the staff does not turn them on. Rooms are also cold. Given its drawbacks, the hotel is far too expensive.

- my experience in this hotel was in overall excellent - you feel like home

- the hotel is old style (furniture and atmosphere) as 18th century but all you need is there.

Hidden Palace in Medina

We didnt had warm water in room. So they moved us to a 1 pers room with very small bed which was very uncomfortable. The day after we moved again to a normal 2 pers. bedroom. The area is scary at evening because no one is around. Ontop the Medina(where the hotel is located) is a maze and not easy to find. (no direct access with taxi's)

Beautifully restored traditional property

Palais Bayram is a beautifully restored traditional property in the heart of the medina. The staff is very responsive and friendly and we used both their driver and guide for excursions outside the city. The on-site hammam is a great bonus, one of the best we've ever experienced in the Arab world in beautiful facilities with privacy. It was a pleasure to stay here from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We felt safe walking around the medina during the day and evening.

Best hotel I've stayed in a long time

What a wonderful hotel. It is the place to stay in Tunis! Staff were excellent and went out of there way to help. Lady at check in gave me a tour. I even had breakfast with one of the owners his name Jean Pierre. I couldn't be happier

Unique Boutique!

Palais Bayram is a unique boutique hotel located in the older part of Tunis in a palace that is being renovated and filled with period antique pieces. The rooms are spacious. The hotel staff is very polite, well-trained and attentive. I found my stay to be an extraordinarily good value, particularly given the historical venue.

Très compliqué pour arriver à cet hôtel quand on ne connaît pas Tunis. Rues très sales, insécurisantes et très difficiles d’accès avec les valises. Nous arrivons et avant même d’avoir vu la chambre, on nous demande de payer en cash. Nous refusons et demandons de payer le lendemain en carte. La réceptionniste nous dit qu’elle est nouvelle, elle ne sait même pas où se trouve notre chambre et découvre le numéro des chambres en même temps que nous en nous faisant attendre. Chambre spacieuse et authentique certes mais qui mériterait d’être un minimum rénovée. On ne peut même pas allumer correctement les lumières. L’eau met environ 5mn à chauffer pour se doucher. Les volets ne ferment pas, une porte (simple vitrage) verrouillée mène directement à la chambre d’à côté où nous entendons tout ce que font les autres voyageurs. Le petit déjeuné, une plaisanterie, très peu de choix, même pas de fruits frais. Nous revenions du Four season et le Palais Bayram est à des années lumières de la qualité d’un 5 étoiles, je ne dirais même pas un 3! Et nous avons payé plus de 200 euros (à peine 100€ de moins que le four season) ! Une honte. Extrêmement déçus!
