Very clean. Room cold until night. Doors and furniture a bit tired. Bathroom and shower were good.
I cant believe the bar or restaurant had no cream to make liquor coffees!
Breakfast good - one boiled egg like hard boiled..very hard boiled. Staff very young but corteous. Did very well. Overall a good stay

Unfortunate visit

We had a bit of a disasterous stay. We couldn’t close the French windows as the frames were swollen and didn’t fit. When we got back from our meal and walk the room had quite a few flying insects on the wall and this number just increased and increased. We called facilities who came and said we needed to be moved to a different hotel. They offered to take us there if we’d had a drink, but we were fine so moved to a hotel in aldburgh.

A good option for Thorpeness

Good value, but rooms really need some attention. Clean though, and the superking bed was massive. Nice view over the putting green. Breakfast was excellent in a lovely room, and the service from the woman at breakfast was faultless.

Gem of a hotel in a gem of a place

My sister in law and I really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were all extremely friendly especially Keeley who went above and beyond to ensure that we were provided with all we needed as my sister in law was recovering from knee surgery.
The hotel is very quiet and relaxing with lovely views and plenty of spaces to sit outside. The rooms were rather tired but very clean and comfortable. Although the standard rooms are stated as being on the ground floor, they are not accessible as the building is built into a hill so in theory you enter on the 1st floor and go downstairs to the ground floor
The breakfast was nice with a good cook to order selection. Service was rather on the slow side possibly because golfers were often being served in the bar at the same time.
Other thing to note Expedia state checkout is 11am when in fact it is 10am.
All in all my sister in law and I had a lovely relaxing time here and would definitely return again. We highly recommend this lovely gem of a place.

It was a great way to start the weekend. We were joined by 14 others the next day for a weekend of golf. Although didn’t help the golf. This is the best course to play in winter months. Guaranteed to be firm underfoot.

The rooms were spacious, clean and extremely comfortable. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful - on reception, in the dining room and the bar. When they realised one of us had mobility issues, they went out of their way to make sure that things were made as easy as possible.
The breakfasts are superb.
Overall, a marvellous hotel with staff to be proud of.

All quite good but just not quite hitting the mark . Seems to be nearer a golf club rather than a hotel and not quite making either. Needs to attend to detail in every area. Began to feel a bit expensive for what it was. Service and food good.

The rooms were very comfortable & clean. There was more than enough storage space. When life is busy it’s great to be somewhere almost serene. The hotel has an ambiance of bygone times, so don’t expect a corporate experience, which is its charm. Staying at the Golf Club in Thorpeness almost takes you back to a bygone time, the 30s. But it’s the restaurant & the food that are the stars. The restaurant reflects the era & the spirit of Thorpeness. It has an exceptional menu & it’s a real pleasure to eat there. It is a golf club, so expect golfing parties to be part of the clientele, not a problem as they are always well behaved and add to the atmosphere. We had 2 evening meals, both excellent & we wish our plans had allowed us to eat there more. Breakfast was very good too. It’s table service because of Covid. Local produce features, but it is the avocados (there must have been 2) on toast with a soft poached egg that stay with me. Everyone at the hotel that we met was pleasant, courteous & efficient. Special mention goes to Lynne, the restaurant manager. She’d been on duty for over 12 hours & was fit to drop, but found time & energy to chat to all the diners, make them welcome & special, & make sure that everything was running smoothly. The mark of a well-run establishment is how issues are dealt with. We had a small problem; it was dealt with quickly, with follow ups. The hotel is busy enough not to have to go that extra mile but they did. Well done to all. We will be back.

An excellent short break in every way

Contact before arrival was prompt and efficient and upon arrival all staff continued to provide the highest of service with a smile and a can do attitude which was excellent. The location beside the very large boating lake in the heart of Thorpeness was fantastic and the golf added to the beauty of the environment. The furniture in our room was showing its age but not in a way that affected the overall standard . Large airy room with a very comfortable king bed and balcony over looking the putting green.
A very well maintained 9 hole crazy golf course was great fun. Food from the bar or in the restaurant was very good and the lounge and outside seating areas were ideal for just relaxing.
The location gives access to a lovely part of the country with Aldeburgh a must and just 10 minutes away.
Full marks to the staff for making our stay fuss free and we will certainly return.
