Great comfort for a diving trip

We really enjoyed our stay at the Tarna. Decent breakfast spread without being overly fancy. The free shuttle to and from town (and to and from the ferry) was greatly appreciated. The onsite dive school was excellent and we had great dives with them. The fact that their equipment is in great condition and they have their own traning pool at the hotel were big pluses. We had a room with its own pool, which we really enjoyed - But be aware that these rooms are all facing onto the construction site next door. I estimate that it will be ongoing for at least another year (we stayed in April 2025). To be fair it wasn't that intrusive, but I think potential guests should know about it.

Lovely view but poor pool & bathroom issue

PROS: Staying in the villa was a very cool experience and the views were amazing. The bed was also very comfortable and the duvet was great. In addition, the staff were attentive and they would pick us up from our villa to reception in a golf cart for free (steep hill but could easily be walked).

CONS: Although we liked the villa, one significant downside was that there wasn’t a proper door on the bathroom (or a roof) meaning that you could hear everything going on in the bathroom in the bedroom. For that reason, it would put me off staying again. We booked a sea view villa so curious to see whether this issue affects the other property types. We had also expected the pool to be much bigger but it’s really quite small. Although there are two public pools, one is used exclusively for diving and there isn’t much space to lounge around the swimming pool. Finally, it is also worth noting that the shuttles to town only run 4 times a day (8:00 / 10:00 / 16:00 / 18:00) and back 5 times day (10:00 / 11:00 / 16:00 / 18:00 / 21:00). Out of hours service is 50 baht per person per journey.

We booked another 4 days at this resort because we liked it so much. The staff were so thoughtful and helpful. They went out of their way to make every guest a beautiful Kratong for us to take to the pier to release into the waves. So beautiful and so thoughtful! Loi Kratong Day
On the full moon of the twelfth lunar month, in November, this festival celebrates the release of misfortune. ‘Loi Kratong’ means to float a ‘Kratong’, an object decorated like a lotus bloom which is laid on the water to be carried away, thereby symbolically taking away any bad luck. Respect is also paid to the spirit of the waters. The festival, with live stage performances, is held in the evening at the main pier in Mae Haad.
Jonathon, the Divemaster was so personable and friendly. We were not diving this trip but he took the time to carefully explain about different spots to snorkel and how to access them. I believe he would be an excellent Divemaster as he is so encouraging and positive. You will like him. The pool at the resort is specially designed to teach diving. Try it!!
I would give the staff full marks! The location is ideal as they offer free shuttle service. We enjoyed the walk up and down !

We stayed here for a couple nights to experience all Koh Tao had to offer. The steep inclines throughout the hotel's walkways were tough for my gf to navigate and the hotel is far away from the walking streets. However, the shuttle services, consieege and private pools more than made up for it. Our room was huge as well.

Loved this hotel! It's a little off the main street so it's nice and quiet at night. The hotel also offers rides up and down the hill to get to the main walking street. Everything at the hotel was wonderful. Room was amazing, view was breathtaking, couldn't have asked for anything more! One tip if you're looking to do a diving course, it's significantly cheaper elsewhere on the island through other diving schools.

The hotel is fabulous, the breakfast is very good. But they should improve the accessibility, there are a lot os stairs and no lift for elderly or people with disabilities. It’s also far from the Sairee beach, they should offer more shuttle times, specially at night.

I stayed in the sea view villa, If you book one of these be aware it is at the top of the hill the resort is built on but they do have a golf cart that can be called any tine and is at the villas within a few minutes.
The villa itself was really great, it felt really homely and the decor was modern.
One slightly strange thing is the toilet is in a shower cubicle, the bathroom has no door and there is a clear glass panel to see into the bedroom, bit awkward if with a partner.
The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was a good selection and the sushi restaurant nice.
It was really quiet whilst I was here and its a long way down the hill to town and the beach, again a golf cart does runs every hour but I'd advise hiring moped if you want to get out and about more, they're cheap enough.
Would I stay here again ? Yes, I probably would

What can I say... Our stay at this resort was amazing. The resort is located inland at the top of a hill; hence I’d recommend you look out for the hotel shuttle from the port, or get a taxi. The staff here were so friendly and attentive, and the variety at the breakfast buffet was abundant and delicious. They also have a cool rooftop bar, which plays great music and overlooks the sea (great for sunsets). We initially booked 2 nights here and fell in love with our pool access room. These rooms are conveniently situated a short walk from reception. Our room was huge and clean, and the ambiance at the pool was so relaxing, peaceful and beautiful (pool access rooms share one pool between two/three rooms). We were enjoying our stay so much we requested to stay an extra night, but due to unavailability of our room, we were moved to a sea view room. Another beautiful room, much smaller but sits at the top of the resort overlooking everything with beautiful views from the balcony. It is a bit of a walk uphill, but the staff are happy to give you a lift any time in one of their buggies. It was so nice, I actually decided to propose to my partner here. The staff were amazing in helping me organise everything; they went above and beyond my expectations. I am so happy with how everything went, and my fiancé agrees it was perfect!!! The Tarna Align Resort will always have a special place in our hearts, and we would not hesitate to recommend anyone stay here. Thank you again :)

We enjoyed our stay at The Tarna. The original plan was to take a scuba course but it takes 3 full days and we didn’t have enough time. However the hotel helped us book snorkeling trips and recommended an excursion to Freedom Beach which was amazing. We loved our room and the pool was beautiful. It’s about an 8 minute walk to Sairee beach but it’s nice to be a bit removed from the noisy road. We rented a Scooter and had a great time. Highly recommend this resort if you are looking for a bit of luxury on the down to earth island of Koh Tao

Stayed at the Villa with Seaview for 4nights, and the view was absolutely stunning! Staff was super helpful and also great to have on-site PADI dive centre if you wish to opt for small group diving sessions. One down side is the location of the villa to main reception which you can only rely on in-house golf car; and property is bit remoted to the main Sairee Beach area which often took 15 min walk from Sairee Beach to resort uphill unless you have a taxi car booked in advance.

Generally a really nice hotel. The design is good and the view over the bay is stunning. A really nice cocktail bar too with a great happy hour. The diving team are great too as is the equipment. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. A few niggles - it doesn’t quite feel finished, the toilets in the villas give little chance of privacy which means kicking your partner out when you need a number higher than one. Also you really need to hire a scooter to get to and from the action. And lastly if you don’t have a private pool and there is a scuba lesson going on in the main pool you’re stuck for options.

This is a beautiful hotel, set up in the hills overlooking Koh Tao.
View is lovely and the rooms are stunning. Pool is also lovely and they have a nice roof top bar. Would recommend!
Only comment is that it is about 15+ minute walk uphill to the hotel. They do run a shuttle but it is at actually pretty inconvenient times. They charge you 50baht per person to go outside these hours. If I were the hotel I’d simply remove this charge, and make it more welcoming to people of all ages and abilities.

10min walk down hill to Sairee to great restaurants and beach, lovely pools and great roof top bar, we stayed end of August 2018 and wasn’t very busy.
Dined at Blue chair and art gallery restauarant also just dosn the street. Very nice roomss with comfortable beds. Great breakfast variety. We got a great deal in expedia and was worth the price. Also have free pickup/dropoff to pier for feery and Have daily shuttle service if you need down to Sairee. Nice but hot walk ip the hill and down again to a snorkelling and swimming beach and abandoned hotel through the jungel was great

Very Nice Hotel!!

We had a lovely stay at the Tarna Align. It is high up so the hotel was steep to get up and down on but that didn’t bother us at all. They do offer to come and get you from your room to the bottom of the hotel if needed. But we found it good for walking off all the food we ate at breakfast. We struggled to get our wifi working for the first couple of hours and after speaking with the very helpful staff, we had our wifi working in no time! The breakfast was beautiful, and such a good variety of foods and very delicious coffee. The pool was also lovely! Our room was gorgeous - it was right at the top so we had beautiful views, our room was cleaned everyday and the bed was very comfy. I would highly recommend this hotel. It is also close by to some restaurants, we found it good hiring a scooter, you can see so much more or the hotel does provide a shuttle as well. If my husband and I ever go back to Koh Tao we will definitely stay here again.

Clean and fancy villas! Chic Diving is awesome!!

We stayed for 4 nights at Tarna. The hotel has a free transfer service from the pier to the hotel. The hotel is 10-15 min walking distance from the main street next to Sairee beach with lots of restaurants and bars. There are couple of grocery stores, several laundry and bike rental options very near to the hotel. The hotel is located on an uphill road, so be prepared for a tough walk (esp. in a hot and humid tropical weather). We stayed in a villa with an ocean view that was very cool! It's fancy but not very convenient to have glass walls that take restrict your privacy. The staff at the reception and in the restaurant was very kind and helpful. The restaurant appears under-staff as the service was quite slow. The breakfast options were very good for both western and local likes. The greatest highlight of the hotel is Chic Diving. We had amazing 3 days of snorkeling with Terry. They operate in a small group upto 10 person and has a big boat (almost personalized). Highly recommended! The pools are small but great to simply cool off. The walkways next to the pool going to the rooms/villas are super slippery. This is something hotel management must improve. All in all a great stay.

Beautiful hotel and excellent facilities. The swimming pools and sun loungers are top quality. All of the staff were very helpful and nothing was a problem. The room was very clean and spacious with the comfiest bed and bedding, I have used anywhere in the world. The breakfast choice was vast and also the roof deck with the bar was a brilliant way to watch the sunset over the bay. You do have a little walk to get to the night life, but it’s only 5-10 minutes. The hotel will drop you off if you ask and they have regular times for pick ups as well. This is the only hotel I would stay in when I come back to Koh Tao.

Comfortable and convenient stay in Koh Tao

We had a good 4 night stay at the Tarna Align. The main reason you’d stay is the location; near enough to Sairee Village to enjoy the beach and restaurants, but far enough away that you have a bit of privacy away from the backpackers! As the hotel is quite new, the rooms are well-appointed and clean, although an idiosyncracy of design was the lack of wall between bed and bathroom. Luckily we’ve had 8 years of living together to be comfortable enough with this!
We didn’t have a private pool but I would recommend getting one if you can afford it. Not that the public pools are bad, but they can be busy, especially if there are divers practicing in the deeper one. The hotel bar on the roof is nice, if expensive, but offers good views.
One downside is the breakfast, which is very limited. We’re not all that keen on breakfast, so didn’t make much of a difference to us.
The hotel is at the top of a hill, but its not as bad as some other reviewers have made out; not too steep, only ten minutes away from village and beach. We would advise all guests to hire a bike from one of the many family-run guesthouses along the road; 200bhat per day is a bargain and gives you access to the entire island. But in the evenings you can easily walk to and from the town. We’d highly recommend Su Chilli, a restaurant at the bottom of the road.
The hotel offers free pick up and drop off to the ferry pier, definitely go for this as local taxis are expensive.

On thing is there is a bit of a hike up to the hotel from the town and then the hike to your room but worth the views.

Tarna Align review

We had a lovely 2 night stay at Tarna Align resort. The resort is kept in a great state, very clean, excellent view. And above all very helpful and kind staff! We received complimentary pick up from the ferry pier, as well as complimentary drop off at our next koh toa hotel. They have daily transfers down and up to sairee beach, the times of day are quite limited, however it is sufficient. The included breakfast is excellent, and includes a buffet as well as a fresh juice bar, and omelette maker. Again staff very nice and helpful. This resort is slightly further away from sairee beach, however price quality is excellent! Would recommend this hotel (if at least for a few days!)

Amazing hotel! Rooms smelt of a spa after every clean, and it was so clean! Bit of a hike to the hotel but well worth it! Staff are super friendly, a storm was coming in and our boat out cancelled the hotel gave us a lift to the pier to sort out another boat and rang the following day for us to check our boat had not been cancelled. Breakfast is amazing, pool is great! Would definitely recommend, it’s about a 5-8 min walk into the centre the incline is no to bad but at night it’s not well lit so recommend hiring a moped for the stay it’s a definite must to get around. And only 150bht for 24hrs from the hostel on your way down from the hotel on the right.

This is a beautiful hotel and we were delighted with our upgrade (after a brutal ferry crossing I think they felt sorry for us) - thank you. The staff are lovely and we are a same s.x couple - felt no judgement or unease. The breakfast juice maker guy was awesome as was the afternoon reception guy.! It does take about 10 minutes walk up the hill but we hired a motorcycle just down the road for 200tb so it was no issue. The only surprise was being charged for the water with seals on the bottles. Maybe a little placard in front of the bottles would stop future confusion. Also it seemed the heat had left the breakfast bei-marries by 9.30. Other than that I would highly recommend

very unpleasent experience at the beginning:
1. missed the pick up from the hotel staff.
There are two exit in the pier, I must went to the other one where they were not there.
2. hotel phone can not be reached.
They explained that it never happened before, and lucky for me.
3. road to the hotel is under building, with mud and dust
4. they tried to charge my son(3 years and 11 months) for the breakfast, after my angry they gave up.

Actually I regretted after below experience, however, the hotel staffs are full of responsiblity and service attitude, they are doing their best to compensate the negative point from their service, which I think is very important for your stay in a good hotel.
Hope the hotel staff can keep or imporve their service quality and I am looking forward to stay here again.

Beautiful hotel, very clean and well kept. We did have a minor issue with the lights flickering in our room which we complained about but not much was done. Lovely pools, and the breakfast was exceptional. The hotel itself is situated at the top of quite a steep hill and there is a long (dark) walk into the town, they do offer shuttle buses but they aren't very frequent. Staff were all very friendly, and eager to help - we were getting the later boat and as we booked it through them, they offered us a late check out.

We had a 6 night stay at the Tarna Align.The hotel is modern,clean with good size rooms.The prices around the pool and in the mini bar are very reasonable.The breakfast was a good start to each day,with excellent coffee.The pools are spotless.The only downside is the stairs and the walk back from Sairee Beach.

Great getaway with a few caveats

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a couple days as a splurge accommodation during our vacation. We loved staying in our pool access room - highly recommend it - and overall enjoyed our visit, but had a few concerns worth noting:

The scenery around the hotel is absolutely beautiful. Our pool did look out on what seemed to be a shoddily built housing area (which is not a problem in itself). However, we think this might have been for construction workers since it is right alongside where there is work being done to expand the resort. If this is indeed the case, it's heartbreaking to think the hotel doesn't pay construction workers enough to afford safer, better housing.

Finally, when we checked out, the hotel staff (who otherwise were very polite and helpful) said they needed some sort of receipt from us in order to return our 1000 baht (~$33) security deposit - this despite me showing my passport as proof of my identity. They never said anything about the significance of this sheet of paper when we checked in, and in our extensive travels across Asia, this has never been common practice. After a few minutes of arguing, they relented and returned the 1000 baht to me, however this seemed to me like a petty and dishonest attempt by hotel ownership (not the staff simply enforcing the rules) to con guests out of 1000 baht. Not a huge amount of money, but not chump change either.

Comfy new hotel

Tho a little removed from the waterfront action, the Tarna has super comfortable rooms with great tubs, private horizon pools and views to the ocean. Reception staff very helpful, with good English.

Only issue is 40 minute walk to pier and limited free shuttles to/from hotel.

Blissful beds & attentive staff

A steep walk up from Sairee Beach this hotel is a little out of the way. Despite this our stay was fabulous and we enjoyed getting away from the nightly parties. Most comfortable beds we've ever slept in. Staff attentive & keen to assist.

Amazing service and great rooms

We are super pleased with this hotel. The service was amazing. For instance before we arrived they contacted us and arranged a pick-up outside of the regular hours. Then they upgraded our room for free. The room was super fresh with lots of space and a super bed (probably the best I've ever had).

Everything is super clean and feels new. The price for food and drinks are low given that its a high class hotel. The breakfast was good as well.

The only think I can complain about is the location which is far from the beach. but with a 250 bath/day moped you can get everywhere on the island in 15 minutes.

Luxury Hotel 5 mins away from the madness

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here at the Tarne Align resort. I was traveling alone and upgraded myself to the Grand sea view room and it didn't disappoint. It's quite big with its own balcony and sun loungers. The only disappointment I had was they are extending the hotel and the construction work was happening right beside my bedroom and balcony and no one advised me of this. Other than that I loved it

Perfect hotel, great staff

Great hotel only 10 mins walk to the center / 2 min chargeable shuttle.

Hotel is located at the top of a hill providing great views looking out to sea. The bedrooms are sizeable, clean and upgraded rooms have private pools attached to the back door.

Breakfast is tasty & filling with \"eggs any style\" and a choice of buffet options.

Two large communal swimming pools, one has some chilled beats in the afternoon which go great with some of the signature cocktails.

Diving course and training is available here however I never chose this.

Overall a little bit more $ but worth every penny.

most enjoyable hotel of our entire trip

this hotel was amazing from the start. they picked us up at the pier they gave us a welcome drink and tried to had the room ready as fast as possible even if we were way earlier than checkin time. The hotel is wonderful. rooms are clean and beds are the comfiest in all of thailand. all guest have access to 2 pools which are wonderful! there is a lot of stairs in the resort but i think it was worth it. its about 15 minutes walk from the sairee beach but we rented a motorbike and it made our stay way more enjoyable as we had the freedom of going everywhere! the breakfast were amazing. a ton of options. staff was always really polite amd helpful. the only downside is they always play the same song at breakfast. its always that song called faded by allen walker that plays or remixes of it. its nice the first morning but the second day you start noticing the trend. its wasn't a huge issue it was just funny. anyway i recommend the tarna to anyone!

A lovely 3 days. Not sure you could spend much longer here as a couple unless you were diving or visiting people. Perfect for a few days though. Entrance to hotel is fairly steep but no issue if you're relatively young & fit.

Perfect stay! The rooms were clean and the staff was very helpful and super friendly. Pick up at the pier was a bonus. The hotel is at the top of a steep hill but it is worth the view. We left and went to another hotel only to return after one night gone! Breakfast is decent! We walked down the hill to a restaurant called 995 Duck and I would highly recommend it!!! We went 4 times in 3 days!!! Overall, I would recommend this location!!

Great Stay but don't use the dive shop.

The Tarna Align hotel and staff are fabulous! Our room was amazing, clean, spacious and gorgeous views! The location is up in the hills so you are not close to town but we took the shuttle from the hotel and it was fine, then a tuk-tuk back from town. It is worth it for the seclusion and incredible views. The two pools are beautiful.
The food was good (but they could use more vegetarian options). The service was absolutely incredible! We stayed at the resort with friends and we were all just constantly amazed at how perfect everything at the hotel was.
The dive shop is another story. The communication as we booked the trip was excellent, as it was when we arrived. The equipment is in really bad to dangerous condition, some of it broken, or breaking on our dives. The boat is fantastic, roomy and really nice. Unfortunately the dive masters didn't seem to be organized, or diligent. It all seemed pretty chaotic, they even let one guy dive who was clearly drunk. It made everyone else very uncomfortable, and we warned the dive masters that we had seen him drinking before the dive after he had been up all night getting drunk. They knew that we were frustrated with the equipment etc and made no attempts to make it right. I would not dive with the dive operation at all!

Disappointing stay!!!

We got married in Thailand and have chosen The Tarna Align Resort for our honeymoon. We were very disappointed with the service, or rather the lack of it. During our honeymoon in Thailand every single hotel has acknowledged the fact that it was our honeymoon by giving us a complimentary room upgrade, bottle of wine, dinner voucher etc, however The Tarna Align Resort staff simply didnt care. We have asked for a room upgrade and they told us we can get that for the extra cost (while they upgraded my friend to a beautiful room with a balcony and water views, who was with us at the time, just because they had a baby). While our room had the view of a corridor with another door. In my opinion the honeymoon is normally happening once in a lifetime and its a really nice and well appreciated gesture when hotels/airlines take extra care of making it even more special for you. And sadly we did not get any special treatment by the staff of this resort.
Besides that, the hotel had a lot of stairs and sharp edges, and not enough lights in the evening. The concrete stairs were so slippery and dark, that my cousin (who was also staying with us), felt and sprained her ankle, so she had to be taken to the hospital. And my friend (the same one who got a room upgrade) had to change the hotel because it was to dangerous for her baby.
Besides comfy beds and new modern rooms this hotel has nothing else to offer. Would not be back!

Nice hotel on a hill

Tarna Align was pretty great. There are two pools, plus some private pools linked to certain rooms. There is a main pool and one for diving students as well. Chic diving is located at this hotel. I didn't go with them for my diving but they are apparently one of the best schools. And they have a really kickass boat. The staff here were always friendly and helpful. There is a minibar for your convenience and price prices aren't too bad either. About a 5 minute walk away there is a big supermarket called smile mart. The room was really clean and the shower water pressure is fantastic. There is a tv as well but no good channels really. I stayed for two weeks and I loved it, the only bad thing about it was the 20 minute uphill walk from sairee beach/7-11. It was easy on the way down though. Being further away it was nice and quiet at night time. Definitely would recommend if you need some quiet time and a little luxury.

Do not rent scooters with the hotel compant they will as to keep passports agains the rental and will try to scam you with crazy amounts of money that the scooter got scratched and if you won't pay you'll not gonna get your passport. Worse hotel staff I've have seen

After backpacking Thailand for 3 weeks and staying in budget hotels and hostels, it was such a nice change to stay in a beautiful resort. The staff was very friendly, the breakfast buffet was great, the pools were clean and nice, the room was so nice and spacious. The whole place was very clean. It is a new resort so everything is in great shape. The bed was very comfortable, which we needed. Absolutely great stay.

This hotel was amazing . It is so beautiful, i could just sit In the room or the balcon and admire Nature while i listen to birds and people going on about their everyday. Infact this hotel is the only thing i loved about koh Tao. The breakfast area still needs some design love But WHO Cares after skeeping In that bed!!!If you Are going toKoh Tao, i highly recommend this hotel.

Where to begin, everything top notch! The staff can not do enough for you, they are amazing! The food is outstanding (presentation, quality and taste)even speciality made coffee at breakfast and bacon like we get at home in Canada, which Canada is famous for. Massive rooms, I did not have pool room and was fine with that as there are 2 other pools that were not busy. We were hestitate at first to book hotel as it is not on/near beach, no worries as a free shuttle goes to the beach at schedule times, 5 minute shuttle or you can walk down about 20 minutes. Walking back is a bit of a workout, I am 57 and not to fit so I chose to pay the 100 baht to get up the hill, others may welcome it as a wee workout. This is a 5 star resort without the cost!

Chic Diving charged me extra 1000baht without letting me know before hand. I only asked for 1 dive = 2000 baht and my understanding the 2nd dive was free because my companions had to abort their dive due to instructor's safety call.

When I got invoice it was for 3000 baht. I got surprised.

WORST Service we had in Thai Hotels

The only good thing i can say about the hotel is that the bed is very comfortable. Besides that, this has been THE WORST customer service we have recieved in 3 weeks in Thailand. There is nothing worse than paying a 3 digit figure nightly price and having the hotel be cheap with you. Few examples
1) All mid-up scale hotels in Thailand give complimentary bottled water. If you need more they send to your room. Tarna gave us only 2 small bottles and when we asked for more they declined.
2) We almost missed our Catamaran boat off the island because the ride to the pier at 5.15am was waiting for another guest to get ready. The hotel DiD NOT want to send the driver with us who had to be at the pier at 5.30 and come back for the other guests who had to be at 6am at the pier. we are talking about a 8 minutes drive. The hotel just looks to cut back on petty stuff trying to save a buck. For trying to save maximum $8 during our 5 night stay they managed to give us the worst service imaginable and turn me into someone who is going to go out of my way to make sure that anyone i know who comes to Ko Tao NOT stay at this hotel..Wanted to mention that Hotels.com was fabulous about this when i called to complain. They truly understand the value of customer service.
