Housekeeping was excellent and spotless. The food was really tasty and we never had a bad meal here, the spread was very good. Service in general was very spot on especially Chaminda, who took really good care of us. The kids club ran by Shashini was very well received by our daughter and overall we had a really good time hear. We would love to visit again!

Before arrive. Asked for a room on a high floor because of noise. Got the room on top of the nightclub!!! Had 2 horrible nights before we asked for another room bcuz of no sleep. Asked 2 times, middle of night and in mornibg of safari. Told we were leaving for the day. Come back and went to the reception. The maneger were very rude. Told us it was too late to change room. Said we should skipped the safari. I was very sad and had no sleep for 2 night. After a LOT of discussion they gave us another room but downgraded us too a room without seaview. We accepted bcuz there was nothing else and we had to sleep!! They did not even say they were sorry or gave us anything for the room.. they could have us an massage or whatever bcuz of all the problem but they were just rude. Not a service from a 5 star hotell.

RIU was excellent in service and being an all inclusive, we didn't need to leave the property! Many choices on the menu to keep you there both for food and drinks. Lots of entertainment and activities throughout the day so never a dull moment. Would definitely recommend going with a group to make full use of the unlimited cocktails and beers. Has a kids club and kids pool too which keeps them occupied.

I booked 3 rooms for 2 nights.

Positive:
* Staff was very professional and very attentive.
* Place was big with lots of activities
* Food was good. Buffets have a lot of choice.
* service was excellent
* clean rooms

Negative:
* resort was way overcrowded.
*Adult pool was overcrowded and dirty.
* Pool had 80% men staring at us the whole time
* People swimming in pool with regular cloths on.
* drinks and cocktails selection are limited with them being watered down.
* no bathroom or bed room amenities.
* beach access no life guard and when you step on to the beach you get harrased by locals.

Overall it will be a great place if they only allow people who stay overnight and not allow anyone on day pass.
Cost of everything is a bit too high for resorts in Sri lanka.

Fantastic beach. This hotel is the worst riu I’ve been at. We didn’t sleep at all due to the barking dogs in the street. Absolutely relaxing from the moment of arrival until departure. We arrived an hour before checking and we’re graciously quickly checked in. Rooms are modern, clean and efficient. The food is very good quality and there is regular variety. The pools are pristine, and the pool bar is great. The beach itself is touch and go, so many stick to the pools.

Really nothing bad to say about this hotel and their staff - it is an absolutely marvelous experience.

Disappointing Stay

Some of the facilities are closed by using COVID-19 as an excuse. For instance, after hour meal service would have been open pretty easily. Also, no snacks provided in bars. In general, the Rooms are pretty basic. No electric kettle or coffee making facilities. I doubt that rooms are in 5 start rating. The food is also average. Spread is quite poor and taste is also questionable. Pool is good also the pool bar is amazing.

The property is only 3 years old so all is working well, the staff are GREAT. I was at first a little worried about the quality of the food being all inclusive but is was great. Overall a great experience. Friendly and welcoming staff. They have 3 or 4 swimming pools, with a kids pool with slides and stuff as well. The buffet had lots and lots of items and was really amazing, (befitting the rate they charge). Although they don't keep any fresh juices even in breakfast. (They should be there for the amount they charge in my opinion). They do serve beers and basic wines inclusive. The pool and beach bars make cocktails and other drinks which tasted like concentrated syrup. We tried a lot of different drinks and all of them were probably the worst drinks I've ever tasted.
Rooms and facilities are great. No sauna or steambath and all that I think. Service by staff is very good. Pool is open till 8pm which was great for swimming after sunset. They have shades and umbrellas by the poolside beds, we needed them because it was raining but unfortunately they're perforated and only for sunshine, rain just falls through them. Overall I think it could be better for the price they charge.

Very poor food options for vegans or jains. Don't have indian chef or skills. Very poor floor lobbies. Average ambience. Overall we felt being robbed for the steep prices charged. All Inclusive food n drinks had pathetic choices. Moctails served were also premixed. Which happens nowhere in any restaurants. The restaurants n liquors served are below hotel standard of 3 star. Overall I would grade 3 out of 10. I request a 50% refund for my money. Hopeless.kitechen n bar counter

The hotel in itself was nice, however the food was very dissapointing. Terrible buffets, no variety, and chicken was undercooked several times. The bars were ok, but drinks were all made from syrup and served in plastic water cups- even prosecco!! Very dissapointing as we had come to relax and enjoy the food and deinks. The ”speciality” restaurants were good, however fully booked two weeks in advance- leaving us to only try them for two nights out of 7 (even though we requested them upon arrival).

We had an amazing stay in Riu, my young children enjoyed splashing in the pools and walking down the beach. Room is in perfect size and nicely decorated. Food is great and staff all over the hotel is absolutely amazing. Good show every night, few games in the lobby. We were upgraded to full sea view at no extra cost and we really appreciated the relaxing sound of the ocean and beautiful view. We had an amazing stay. Thank you 😊

This is a very good hotel. Staff are absolutely brilliant. Rooms were spotless and comfortable. Food was very good. 3 al a carte restaurants were all very good but only open 1 night per week each.
There are no bars/restaurants to go to outside the hotel. So the only bar is in the lobby or when a show is on they open that bar.
The pools are large enough and clean. An over 18s section would be nice as there is no quiet child free area.
Hotel trip prices were expensive. Just walk to the front gate and speak with the tuk tuk drivers. Can get very cheap transport.

Food was good (not great), staff were nice and friendly but the hotel was totally overrun over the weekend by a hundreds of locals which descended in a group that completely changed the relaxed dynamic of the hotel: groups of men playing volleyball in every swimming pool so unable to swim with small kids as they would get bashed upon, people spitting and clearing their noses into the pool, showering and washing fully clothed in the rinse off showers. Overall not very pleasant at all and we took to hiding out in the room instead.

We only had a 2 night stay for a little relax after 9 days travelling around Sri Lanka. It was exactly what we needed! Hotel was quiet as not main season, weather was still nice and easy to get a sunbed which makes a change. Hotel is gorgeous and excellent value for money. Food on the al a carte menu is worthy of a Michelin star in my opinion, and the staff were very attentive. Would definitely go back!

Overall we had a nice visit. The resort was in very nice condition and the accommodations plentiful. Good choices at the buffet were fantastic! I recommend this over the “sit down” restaurants since the sit-down restaurants are really only specialized buffets...not really sit down. Plus, we weee only there a week. When we called the first day, we could not get reservations to any of the restaurants until the following week? My wife complained so they found a “cancellation” in the Asian restaurant. It was only 1/2 full. Food was still very good, but still buffet and limited to Chinese. We had a small snack and went to the regular buffet. All good. Bartenders were great and we never had to wait for a drink. Only minor issue was housekeeping coming early each day. We would ask (more loudly than we wanted) for them to return later, but unless we actually go dressed and went to the door, they would stay and keep knocking. We could hear them, so I’m sure they could hear us. A great trip overall.

We enjoyed our stay, the staff was lovely, friendly and always willing to help. But the quality of food and drinks was a big disappointment. Food: 90% of items stay the same every day, 60% of those have \"flat\" taste, no seasoning is made. We we dreaming about good fruits before coming to Sri Lanka..there were fruits in the hotel, but if you go outside and walk 300m you can find a local market with much bigger choice and better quality. Why not give the clients this quality? Drinks: the milk is made of powder (the restaurant manager was very surprised when I asked to have the \"real\" milk..he actually said \"Don't you like the powder one?\" Show me the one who does), water is added in all juices and smoothies, all alcohol is of very bad quality and the choice of drinks is very limited.
We had a problem with shower in the room, the temperature was changing cold/hot all the time. We reported to the reception 3 times, the staff promised to fix the problem or switch the room. Neither the first, nor the second was done.
We agree that concidering the fact that you can eat all day and in unlimited quantities, the price we pay is fair..but since you call yourself a 5 star hotel, please think more about the quality.
The country is lovely and will definitely stay in our memory, but not the hotel.

Just got back from our visit to Riu Sri Lanka. The amenities are good. One thing that was a little upsetting - the hotel was full and the speciality restaurants were not operating at full capacity. Therefore we were there for 6 nights and could not get a reservation. The main restaurant buffet food gets tiring very quickly.

It was really a great stay at RIU. The staff were very welcoming and nice, the food and variety was excellent and the facilities and rooms were really clean. The shows were really great as well. We loved being there. The only downer is that the beach is a bit too rough to swim in, and there is no watersports - ie. snorkling or jet ski, you have to go to near bye bentota to rent those. Its also quite far from attractions like elephants or tea plantations- 3 hours ride. The hotel though does keep you busy with its pools, and activities through out the day.

If you like more of A quiet stay ask for full sea veiw room on the right side of the hotel, away from bar and pool.

A bit too crowded during the week-end due to company event.
Good for family. Good animations but noisy when you room is nearby. after animations people make a lot of noise when they go back to their rooms (around 10:15pm). Can be an issue if you or your kids need to sleep earlier.
The food at buffet is good. I just regret there was no good cheese unlike other hotels of this category.
The beach is nice and clean but impossible to swim.

Lovely place with good service and lots of amenities. 3 pools plus a children's play area mean that it is never too crowded. Right next to a beach (public). Great variety in the buffet. Didn't get to try the other restaurants as they were not open. Not much immediately locally, but not far from Galle and less than 2 hours from Colombo. Overall we had a great time and would definitely recommend it for those wanting a resort based holiday!

Avoid it like the plague!

Avoid this place. My wife and I were expecting a delightful 2nd honeymoon. Instead it was a nightmare. We had a late flight, so showed up after 10 pm. Restaurants were closed and the excuse for a manager took us to a filthy fridge with days old fruit and hot dogs as the only option. We asked for other options inside and outside the hotel, and we were basically told there were none. We were fuming. We left the hotel, found a Taj property about 20 mins away. It was less expensive and much more delightful. On Hotels.com, the property showed 24 hr room service, which was completely false. Do not stay here.

Over the years stayed in a few Riu hotels, this complex is no different.

From the name alone you are guaranteed friendly, courteous professional staff no matter what the position they hold is.

The food is tasty, with plenty of local spicey dishes to sample, the desert section is similar worldwide just missed local deserts.

The room I was in was great spacious, bed comfy with a fantastic ocean view of the crashing waves

Definitely recommend this hotel and chain in general, in fact I do regularly

Excellent place!

Everything about the Hotel Riu Sri Lanka was great. The staff, the food, the facility--you couldn't ask for a better experience.

Huge New Resort

Food was very good, many choices.
Pools were great-salt water. Children welcome at swim up bar. The splash pool area was nice for my son-toddler was scared of the huge dumping bucket of water. Small playground next to it.
We had a \"suite\" but I am not sure what made it a suite. It had two double beds with a small sofa and chair. Seemed like a regular room to me. Sparse but adequate furnishings. Bathroom was spacious.
The hotel is a huge place in the middle of a poor village so there are many people trying to sell you clothes etc when you lean over the side of the infinity pool to view the beach.

Hotel is at nice location .

Hotel is located in nice area not over crowded. Hotel has 3 pools very clean, the beach is good.
Rooms were cleaned everyday, we stayed for 4 nights, entertainment in the evening was excellent, food choice was excellent lots of verities for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We didn't
Get to book alcart restaurant as they were fully booked.
Overall the hotel standard is excellent.

Good hotel in Ahungalla

Arrived couple of hours early of check-in time, however, we were allowed to our room. Food was good and was variety. Three big pools, and one additional small pool for small kids. One of the pools is next to the bar and has permanent tables inside it, this was really cool. The beach was also nice.
