My family ( 2 Adults , 1 infant , 1 kid ) loved the 5 night / 6 day stay at Taj Bentota for many reasons :

- Quality of service was excellent . Sam , Nuwan , Ravindra at the Palms restaurant made sure we felt at home. Room Boy Gagan treated the kids with his artistic work every time he cleaned the room.

- Exceptional food at the Palms restaurant. Chefs Paramesh and Dalip Singh prepared great Indian vegetarian food for us. They took extra efforts to make sure baby food for my infant was absolutely home like, every single day! Sri Lankan food suggested by Chef Dalip was top notch .

- Fun activities kept us engaged . Aqua aerobics coach Janaka made sure we lost some calories gained at the Palms . Face painting & other kids activities kept them happy .

- Clean water at the pool & easy beach access .

- The tease bar had live music during the evenings while we sipped our drinks to pleasure.

This place comes highly recommended from my family ! Happy vacationing !

Hospitality at its best in a world class resort

The property is in an incredible location with breathtaking views. Even though it’s on a public beach, it still felt super exclusive and private. The staff were absolutely amazing at making us feel welcome and taking care of us. The hospitality was top-notch fromthe duty manager, to every single staff member, including the restaurant staff who went above and beyond to pamper us. One of the chefs, was incredible. They made dishes that weren’t even on the menu, and they tasted way better than anything I’ve ever had before. In the end, they were the friendliest and most hospitable staff we’ve ever had, and they made our stay absolutely incredible.

The Taj Bentota is a very big hotel right in the beach. The pool area is spectacular with plenty of space and sunbeds.
The breakfast is excellent with something for everyone. We didn’t have supper in any of the restaurants but did have some very good pool bar snacks and drinks.
There are lots of excellent seafood restaurants just outside the hotel entrance gates, across the railway track.
Overall I would definitely recommend the Taj Bentota and ALL the staff but especially the Duty Manager Mahinda.

Beautiful property with exceptional staff

A beautiful hotel with stunning views but what makes this hotel so exceptional is the staff. They are extremely attentive and friendly and go out of their way to ensure your stay is perfect. It was my birthday and I had my room decorated for me and two cakes delivered! I’m also pregnant and Sam, a waiter, ensured there was decaf coffee available for me. Gayan, our room attendant was brilliant and also made the best towel animals! Food was good, rooms are spacious, beds are comfy and swimming is big! Only thing id say, is that the gym could do with some aircon!

Below average, not sure how is this a 5 star hotel. Very limited dining options, one restaurant serving only Indian food. Also avoid paying extra for the sea view room as you cannot see the sea at all, will attach a photo of the view.

In the morning breakfast there was big rush and surprisingly I saw him laying and cleaning the table. This Is quality of real CAPTAIN of the team 👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️

All’s well that ends well !

After our initial disappointment at being assigned one of the old rooms ( Level 1) which was tired, damp and musty with a rusty bath/ shower …we let management know we were not impressed and to please find an alternative. What a difference! Exactly same category and rate but moved to a New spacious room, modern bathroom and different experience which had great and positive impact on our stay .

Good location, right on the beach, the hotel feels old, the rooms are dated, not to a modern 5 star standard, but all made up due to the kitchen staff, especially Piyush the executive chef and Dalip, who took very extra care of us and made our stay special . Would definitely recommend it for the service. They made special vegan food for us, 5 stars to them.

We got to the hotel late and we were given a room with a broken balcony door. The person who took us to the room had to struggle to open the balcony door for us therefore I asked was it broken and he said no it’s not and left the door open. I went to have a shower and my husband went to the balcony and the door got shut by the wind and he could not open the balcony door from outside to get back to the room even though it was not locked!!! He was knocking the door from the outside until I came out from the shower because I did not hear the knocking noise… It was round midnight that time therefore we went to bed because we were very tired from the travel that day and when we were leaving, made a complaint and asked the manager to fix the door lock as well as knowingly providing a room that was marked for repair was NOT GOOD and he agreed to investigate but not sure what he’s done up to now because we had no contact from the hotel up to now… I would have been worse if my husband was alone because he has stay until next morning for someone to notice he’s stuck in the balcony…
Food and location were OK but nothing special. We weren’t treated VIP and in truth we were treated worse than a normal customer.
Compared to Taj Samudra in Colombo, Sri Lanka I don't think I would give 2 out of 10 for this hotel

Our stay was perfect. The check in was smooth. The welcome drink was refreshing. The Property was beautiful. We checked in late evening, didn't like the room that was allocated to us, informed the Reception and were helped with a change of room immediately. Their sensitivity to our request and quick action set the tone for the rest of the stay. Food at the Shack as well as The Palm was great. The Property is connected to the Beach wherefrom the Son could book his water sports while we lounged. Overall a great stay.

Large hotel.The floors are a little confusing .The wonderful beach is quite a walk from the hotel pool, which is on the 4th floor of the hotel ( overlooking the beach and gardens.The curved pool was busy with families during our stay.
Main restaurant serves buffet style breakfast/lunch/dinner with plenty of choice for most tastes.The little publicised Seaview Restaurant
serves fantastic and very reasonably priced a la carte food.As always in Sri Lanka,be very cautious with the wine- it is expensive and generally not well-kept and therefore often past its best.
Not much to see in Bentota itself.
This hotel is probably best for families who wish to stay put,but it is not cheap.

Taj Bentota is a beautiful resort . Our room with a large balcony overlooking the sea was very comfortable and we were well looked after by our room attendant Janaka. He was always helpful and courteous . Food at all the restaurants was good . We enjoyed going to the Oriental Pavilion Chinese restaurant and Sea View restaurant where food and service by waiters was excellent. Daily buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner at The Palms was of high quality too with a huge choice of delicious regional and international cuisine. Sam, waiter at The Palms was particularly efficient , providing excellent service. At reception Dumith Nonis was very pleasant and helpful .
Overall the entire hotel ambience is pleasing though some areas could do with a bit of renovation , like the ensuite bathroom in our room 424 and some of the toilets and changing rooms in public areas of the hotel.

Its not Taj !!

We could not convince chef of best known Indian 5 star hotel to have atleast one Indian dessert in the buffet especially when Indians are one of major occupants at the hotel. Food scores zero if dessert is missing.
Dirty closets, old bathroom fittings. I can’t believe there is no hand-shower in bathroom. Just not good enough. Staff also of mixed quality, some of them can’t speak one English sentence properly. Im wondering if Taj India has outsourced facilities at Bentota to some contractor to manage to their behalf ?

The Taj is coasting based on the Prestigious name. A complete disappointment and no where near a 5 star. Multiple issues one after another and we were approached by two managers one at dinner and the other upon checkout.

This hotel is not an indicator of the general Sri Lankan hospitality. More of an embarrassment for me as a native Sri Lankan that came to Sri Lanka to propose to my girl friend and then did a mini tour with her and my best friend, both of whom are first time travelers to Sri Lanka.

We had an amazing time at Taj in Bentota, our little one in particular was spoilt by the staff who all went out of their way to ensure he had the best time. We enjoyed all the facilities especially the pool and the spa. Food choices at the Taj are great, there is plenty of choice and the quality is exceptional, who doesnt love a dosa for breakfast?! The main Palms restaurant caters for all and has a great range of options, we also tried the Chinese restaurant one of the evenings and again the choices and food were great.

The beach is clean and just perfect for sunset views and for kids to play and build sandcastles. My husband and myself enjoyed some spa time too, the treatments were nice and again the staff were great.

Definitely come back to the Taj and back to Bentota, we had a great little family holiday and it was made perfect by the Taj and its amazing team!

I liked that it was clean, nice location, good breakfast.
Dinner was disappointing, very short on staff at the restaurant, a tad rude, no waiters to fill water, clean tables.
Room was good but right above stairs facing the pool so no privacy if you stand in the balcony. Bathroom needs a major update. Mold, flush not work, old style toilet and bathtub, sink was very low. Only one charging plug in the room. Iron and hair dryer needs to be changed.

Very bad reflection on the Taj name

Very disappointed by this Taj hotel. The condition of the hotel is quite bad and our room had some kind of roach infestation. Two days were completely ruined by the terrible service we received by the staff about the infestation, even after emailing the hotel and Taj Inner circle. We were quite happy about leaving the hotel and shocked by the state of the hotel, being a Taj property. The location on the beach is stunning though. The spa is fantastic but had a bad experience while billing about our spa charges as well. The manager/head chef came over and apologized twice but there is no point of apologies if nothing is done to rectify the issues.

It didn’t quite feel like a 5 star hotel. The rooms were quite small (deluxe) and very small balcony. They didn’t feel luxurious enough to warrant a 5 star rating. The area is nice with a few restaurants in easy walking distance. The pool area is nice with good views of the beach and ocean.

Lovely hotel with great facilities and very friendly staff. Food at the Palms restaurant was very good with great choices of local food (Dhal to die for!!) and western dishes. Pool beautifully situated with supurb views over beach and ocean. Excellent beach walking and good local restaurants near hotel are an added bonus. Only negative was our bathroom in 411 which needs an upgrade. Overall a great holiday.

Great place but pity about the room.

The place itself is magnificent but very expensive to eat and drink there. Breakfast is great. Problem we had was we booked a sea view room and only got a garden view.. When I mentioned it to the person showing us our room, she opened the door, took us onto the balcony then onto the grass (we were on ground level) then pointed to a gate which led to the beach 70 metres away and you could just see some surf. The other staff were great and the service excellent.

Lovely hotel on the beach

We had a fantastic honeymoon at Taj Bentota. The pool/beach view area was very relaxing, and the food was excellent at the hotel. The staff were so attentive throughout the hotel and we loved coming back to our room to find it clean, tidy and with a cute towel-animal made by Chamil! Thank you for a great stay.

Sam at the restaurant was the differentiator

I can simply say our stay was memorable with the excellent service given by Sam at the restaurant. His level of empathy and active listening skills was remarkable. He will be a good value driver as he recommends good upscale techniques for the hotel. He made the difference to us of the service offered by taj. Overall staff friendliness and staff motivation was noteworthy. Never seen such motivated staff in all departments. Loved the pool, the view from the pool, rooms looked beautiful and the views from the rooms was excellent for a beach hotel in the southern coast.

I was upgraded on arrival to a beautiful sea view room. Property is on incredible grounds surrounded by sea on 3 sides. They have an amazing and reasonably priced spa - I tried 4 different services - each was great. Breakfast buffet was a generous mix of eastern and western options. While all the above is great - the true heart of the property is the staff - each person I came in contact with went above and beyond to meet my smallest needs. The property is a gem in a great area!

Taj.... The ultimate destination to get yourself pampered. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one at Taj who helped me plan out a surprise birthday celebration for my husband's 30th. From upgrading us for free to the ocean view rooms, to arranging a special eggless dark chocolate and grated Cocunut cake and playing the birthday song on saxophone and giving us a complimentary drink. Thankyou for pampering us with all royalty and making us feel so special.

Overrated!!!

Other than the property, there is nothing good about this hotel.
They provide only 2 free bottles of drinking water each day & charge extra for additional water.... \"thats ridiculous\". - After paying INR 17000 per night... you charge for drinking water...SHAME ON YOU !
I had asked for squeezed lime juice, the hotel says... if we cut & give u the lemon its free but if you want the lemon squeezed its chargeable... I COUND'NT BELIEVE MY EARS...
Service is bad, no consideration at all.. they upfront say NO.
Its an over-rated hotel. Shall never again consider a stay here !.

in the heart of Bentota area

We had a nice experience, exactly on the beach, you can do all kind of water sports, it is the perfect place to learn surfing.
the food was average, they can put some effort to become great.
Rooms a little bit old, and small bathroom, but the ocean view will make you forget about it.
Big Balcony including 2 sun beds.
On the other hand, if you want to have a dinner outside the hotel, there is a nice sea food restaurant near to the main gate of the hotel. they have delicious super fresh sea food. (ask the chef to make a \"harra\" sauce.
Overall we enjoyed our stay.

NOT AS GOOD AS LAST TIME !!!!!

All was good and nothing to really complain about but things were not as good as our first visit in June, the pool staff are just good as last time, the restaurant staff are either very good, a bit too attentive or their understanding of English needs improving, Reception Staff are very helpful and the Cashier was good but could try and smile instead of looking serious.

The Buffett for Breakfast and Lunch was as good as last time, but the Evening Buffet was not as varied as last time and very few choices of Dessert, very good service around the pool, but on the outer grassed locations the service was lacking.

Local house wine ( INDABA ) and Lion Beer was very well price, all other wines especially the Proseco, which was around 15 English pounds for Two Flute Glasses, more expensive than Dubai.

We both enjoyed our stay and will look at coming back next year.

I believe staying in this hotel is a great option if you want to visit Galle.
The hotel has good amenities, good service, and good food.
Galle is 45 minutes away and the town is very small. Is worth visiting but not to stay more than one night.

Restaurant Mngr service @Taj Bentota was a shame!

Beautiful property!Stay was great. The staff at the reception , poolside,spa services ,housekeeping were all extremely helpful and courteous.
The restaurant manager though needs a thorough training on managing guest relations and treating them.The guy was super rude with most guests.Even if it was him just having a bad day it's probably worth mentioning for feedback.unfortunately cannot remember his name.you could look it up by our stay dates perhaps .it was the morning breakfast shifts that he was working.

The hotel is OK. Some minor issues, nothing major

The stay at the hotel started badly, With reception staff not giving us a room after check-in time. When I started heating up, they quickly ushered us into a room that was not what I had booked (two beds instead of a king). Everything was off to a bad start. However, things got better over the days. The staff is helpful and friendly. The food is good. And service is overall OK. So, all in all, it's a good hotel.

Out dated and very expensive for its location ...

The Hotel was in general \"OK\" but it was some how out dated and over priced for its condition. The view is amazing from the room and the room was Ok. The food was also good but diner is over priced and the juice was something like 8-9$ where ever where ales it was 2-3$.

The hotel services are very expensive to its location, the same prices could be compared to a 5 star hotel in US or ERU countries.

Over all I give it 3 stars.
