Clean rooms, friendly staff and a beautiful setting made our stay very pleasant. The food was good but lacked the local influence - propbably because the hotel caters mostly to German tourists. Despite being on the beach we opted to spend time at other baches as the ocean water directly at the hotel was not clean.

I arrived at the Lanka Princess Hotel to find no one able to resolve my booking issue. I spent over 4–5 hours trying to contact both the hotel and Expedia live chat, which eventually froze with “Got it, let’s help with your request.” No solution was offered, and I was left stranded after a full day wasted. I had to move to The Palms Resort nearby and pay extra for an all-inclusive stay just to have accommodation that night. I’m requesting a full refund for the Lanka Princess booking and reimbursement for the additional cost I incurred. I can provide receipts and screenshots as evidence.

Not what we were hoping for...

We recently stayed at the Lanka Princess Hotel and found the staff lovely and attentive throughout our stay. However, the overall experience didn’t quite match what we expected from the description on Hotels.com. The hotel feels dated and functional rather than showcasing Sri Lanka's beauty and vibrancy.

It wasn’t made clear at the time of booking that this is primarily an Ayurvedic retreat, which heavily influences the food, activities, and overall style of the hotel. The food selection was quite limited, and the toiletries provided were functional rather than luxurious: no conditioner or hair dryer in the room and the bed was too hard for my liking. You can ask for another pillow or two though.

We also had a room next to a pump, it was unbelievably noisy at night!

The evening entertainment was limited and there is no lively communal area to relax in, which made the atmosphere very quiet.

The pool was amazing and so was the wildlife!

The beach was heavily littered after the rain, and walking along it was difficult without being approached by locals, which is tricky on day 1 but after a while is fine.

Although the service from staff was great, the experience didn’t feel truly “ALL inclusive.” Alcohol is not included in the \"ALL inclusive\" menu!

Overall, this hotel may suit guests specifically seeking a peaceful Ayurvedic wellness retreat, but it may not be the best choice for those wanting a more traditional, vibrant Sri Lankan holiday experience.

Highly recommended!!

The location is great, my room was spacious and well equipped, the food is plentiful and delicious and all the staff are happy, friendly and totally adorable!!

If you're staying over Christmas/New Year, the extra effort with decorations and evening schedules is really lovely - the best I've experienced.

Thank you very much Lanka Princess, I had a brilliant stay. Without hesitation, I would stay here again :-) xxx

Lanka experience

Our short stay at Lanka Princess was good but not worth the money we paid, service was goodbut front desk guy was very unhelpful and not really nice to us in both occasions we had chance to deal with him. We ordered some drinks and it didn't came right .Rooms are specious and clean so the
bathroom but need bit of renovation. Lovely natural pond with plenty of life in it. German orientated hotel. Overall good quiet hotel with evening entertainment. Easy access to town by tok tok, lovely restaurants in walking distance.

Boutique hotel with class.

we stayed there for 3 nights and had a great stay.
Breakfast was well laid and the al fresco dining is superb.
The circular pool is lovely and access to the beach is just great.
People found of ayurveda treatment would love this hotel but since I did not try it no idea of the effectiveness of the treatments.

Great place to rejuvenate!

Very good hotel if your looking for Ayurveda treatment. Facilities were excellent and the staff were very informative and helpful. Every evening there is a lecture on different aspects of Ayurveda and they also have a daily timetable of free yoga,tai chi and meditation sessions.

If you're not German forget about it!

Loved the location, amazing facilities, incredible buffet meals! A very warm welcome by staff and the wait staff were extremely helpful!
What we didn't like was that this hotel is German orientated and we are obviously not German. Because of this we found it had a totally different vibe about the place amongst guests. Nobody told us you weren't allowed to smile or talk!! Very strange indeed... it's like nobody smiled or greeted other guests, ever! Enjoyed facilities and meals but wouldn't recommend it unless you were German!

The best thing about this hotel is the chill factor round the pool. It mainly has German guests and most things are in German but they do have english available. The food is nothing special though with the buffet being very expensive for Sri Lanka but they have some cheaper meal option altough not many. Also I had a room over the outside dining area and they had different music playing everynight until about 10pm
My balcony and view of the pool area was amazing and i did love my room.

Brush up on your German before you go !

Lovely pool and gardens / right on beach however no hotel sun beds / umbrellas on beach. The service excellent / however rooms could do with a major refurb / food generally buffet and only so so. Ayurveda medicine / treatments seemed to be a major focus and many guests appeared to be there for that reason. Also 99% of guests are German. For me this was a last minute booking - got a budget rate however so for a bit more money Sri Lanka offers much better hotels however if you just want to flop at pool and have some treatments its fine

All inclusive on the beach

I stayed here for 4 nights after 3 days travelling around central Sri Lanka. The hotel is in between Aluthgama and Beruwela. Both are a short tuk-tuk ride away. It's a German managed hotel and this is reflected in the efficiency and reliability of the service given. German is the most common language heard spoken by both guests and staff, it is very much marketed towards guests from Germany, Austria, Switzerland. I must stress however that I I was treated with great courtesy and friendliness by all the staff I came into contact with and all spoke at least some English. Reception was handled very professionally with two staff showing me around the hotel, its facilities and my room. The room itself was of a decent size, no bath but a good shower. Lovely room balcony overlooking the pool and gardens. There was a minibar with soft drinks, all of which were included in the booking price, the internet worked great in my room but less well in the lobby! Mosquito net was also provided. My only real gripe is that the bed was actually 2 single beds put together which did not actually work as a double bed. A very quite hotel, no children under 13 allowed. Food was of a very high quality, good selection rotation, pleasingly it is almost entirely local in nature.Terrific waiter service. As an Ayurvedic resort there are plenty of facilities and dining options to support that if you are interested. Access to the beach is via a gate with a security guard at the bottom of the pool gardens.

Lanka Princess Happy Christmas holiday!

Stayed for 10 days for a family Christmas. German run hotel of a very high standard...from rooms to pool to customer service. The food is included and is outstanding.. So much choice and and good mix of Sri Lankan and international cuisine! Soft drinks included and alcohol very desk ably priced. We had to pay an extra amount at the hotel or the 3 days covering Christmas, which was well worth it. Service was excellent from all departments.. we will definitely go back!

A hotel just for German Speakers!

The hotel was clean, the rooms were spacious and staff were outstanding. The beach wasn't clean and because of the location of the hotel we couldn't swim in the sea as it was extremely dangerous - we were informed by the locals that the part of the beach was full of rip tides and currents which we could see for ourselves - very scary!

Everything was in German, all the tourist information, the guides, even when we were checking out the feedback forms were in German. We asked the staff about this as English is an international language which is widely spoken throughout the world, we were informed that the owner and GM were German therefore everything was in German. This is fine but there should information provided in English and other languages too! When we arrived the GM was there, he went to all the German speakers tables to chat with them but did not greet us or the other British and Australian guests who were there also. This isn't acceptable by any standards but specifically when you are advertising your hotel with a company such as Expedia, they might want to reconsider this or perhaps extend their vision to encompass guests from all over the world!

The food wasn't great again it was 90% German food which we didn't like. When advertising this hotel it should specify \"preferable German guests only\". I should say though we were fortunate enough to meet some lovely German guests too. Overall I wouldn't recommend this hotel, but the staff were amazing!

Hospitality is excellent. The Hotel staff are very helpfull and friendly. The property is a bit on the old side but nonetheless, is clean and run efficiently. The hotel caters mainly for German clientel with most information sheets in German only. If your not a German speaker, would help to brush up on your German reading skills. Overall though, very nice.

Das Hotel ist einmalig, Zimmer sind groß und sehr sauber, die Speisen hervorragend, das Personal freundlich. Alles in allem ein absolutes Highlight.
Leider ist die Lage nicht wirklich toll. Es liegt an der Mündung des Bentotaflusses, welcher Berge von Müll heranspült. Baden im Meer nicht wirklich schön, auch wegen den gefährlichen Strömungen. Man badet also ausschließlich im Pool. Das ist sehr traurig!

Отель прекрасен для тех, кто хочет отдохнуть от суеты, расслабиться, полежать и ничего не делать. В новогодние праздники 2019 года было не очень много людей, практически пустые лежаки (они кстати персональные, закреплены за каждым номером, и находятся в тени пальм), свежие соки и очень вкусный травяной чай приносят прямо к лежакам. К еде нет нареканий: два отделения ресторана - местная кухня и европейская, постоянно работал гриль-бар, где еду готовили прямо на глазах; фрукты всегда в доступе. У отеля есть своя аюрведа, но мы не ходили. Номер обычный, достаточно просторный, тесно не было. Вид из всех номеров на внутренний двор с прудом, бассейном и рестораном, кроме тех, которые расположены с торцов отеля, у них частичный вид на океан. Персонал предельно вежлив и услужлив, сервис просто на высоте. Единственным минусом может быть то, что подавляющее большинство отдыхающих немцы, и все ориентировано на них, даже некоторые информационные листы есть только на немецком; однако весь персонал хорошо говорит на английском, проблем у нас не возникло. Территория отеля огорожена, ухоженная и очень зелёная, а к морю ведёт отдельная дорожка, у которой сидят охранники и не пропускают лишних на территорию отеля. Отель расположен рядом с устьем реки, поэтому для того, чтобы искупаться действительно в морской воде, приходилось проходить метров 200 по пляжу.

Hübsches Hotel, sehr freundliches Personal, Ayurveda Kur ..ausgezeichnet. Einzig die Entfernung vom Flughafen beträgt fast zwei Stunden.. aber sonst alles sehr gut.
Würde wieder dorthin reisen. Echt zu empfehlen!

Tolle Küche, super Service. Sind Wiederholungstäter! Direkt am Hotel kommt der Fluss ins Meer, daher gibt es eine gefährliche Strömung und die Wasserqualität ist nicht die Beste. Der Hotelpool ist groß und schön, ansonsten kann man auch mit dem Boot zur Halbinsel übersetzen und hat dort einen schönen Strand und sauberes Wasser.

Das Hotel an sich war schön, jedoch hat man in den Zimmern schon gesehen das es in die Jahre gekommen ist. Es war vieles abgemackt. Der Service ist sehr gut, alle Mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich. Das Essen ist gut und der Pool ist schön. Das einzige was uns gestört hat war, das es keine Liegen gab von wo man den Strand gesehen hat, da dieser durch eine Hecke abgetrennt ist. Vor dem Hotel direkt zum Strandzugang lauern Männer, die einem eine Bootsfahrt andrehen wollen. Man muss schon ziemlich deutlich werden damit sie einen in Ruhe lassen. Das empfanden wir als ziemlich störend. Der Strand an sich ist ganz nett, aber es gibt schönere.
Wenn man in die Stadt fährt sollte man aufpassen. Es ist wirklich schrecklich, man wird von allen Seiten angesprochen und teilweise wurden wir regelrecht durch die Läden verfolgt! Entspanntes Shoppen ist da nicht. Sowas haben wir auf unserer ganzen Rundreise nicht erlebt. Aber dafür kann das Hotel nichts.

Ein wunderbares Hotel, gepflegte Anlage, ausgesprochen serviceorientierte Mitarbeiter, gutes Essen (dunkles Körnerbrot!!). Habe nur Positives zu berichten. Ich hatte ein Superior Zimmer, das würde ich jedem empfehlen - sehr groß, super Bett/Matratze und ein wunderschönes Badezimmer. Alkohol ist im AI nicht enthalten, ist aber preiswert. Ein Glas Wein oder 1 Flasche Bier kosten LKR 600 (aktuell ca EUR 3,30). Der Strand vor dem Hotel ist sicherlich nicht der allerschönste auf Sri Lanka aber man kann weit laufen. Die Überfahrt mit einem Boot zu der kleinen vorgelagerten Insel kostet aktuell LKR 300.
Würde dieses Hotel jederzeit wieder buchen!

Rundum wohlfühlen im Lanka Princess!

Das Lanka Princess ist ein Hotel, das unsere Erwartungen an ein angenehmes Urlaubsdomizil auf Sri Lanka in jeder Hinsicht mehr als erfüllt hat: Sehr schöne und gepflegte Anlage, großzügige und gut ausgestattete Zimmer und ein überaus zuvorkommender und freundlicher Service in allen Bereichen des Hotels. Die Zufahrt zum Hotel ist eher unscheinbar, dafür erwartet einen nach dem Betreten der Anlage eine Atmosphäre, die beim Gast sofort den Erholungsmodus aktiviert. Für Gäste, die vor allem Ruhe, Entspannung und ein gepflegtes Ambiente suchen und sich gerne an erlesenem Essen erfreuen, ist das Haus perfekt. Familien mit Kindern oder junge Leute, die eher auf Parties, ein gesellige Unterhaltungsprogramm oder ein buntes Sport- und Animationsangebot Wert legen, sollten sich dagegen nach anderen Lokationen umsehen.
Wir hatten nach einer knappen Urlaubswoche eine fünftägige Rundreise unternommen und uns nach der Rückkehr in das Hotel so gefühlt, als wären wir wieder nach Hause zurückgekehrt.
Wir waren das erste Mal auf Sri Lanka und schließen weitere Reisen in dieses sehr interessante Land definitiv nicht aus. Dann aber steht fest: Auf jeden Fall wieder in das Lanka Princess!

Very quiet hotel efficiently managed

This hotel is owned and run by Germans so the quality and efficiency is assured. It's mainly focused towards Ayurvedic treatments for German speaking clients. If you take the all inclusive package you will enjoy their wide selection of food.
Unfortunately we took B&B as we wanted to dine a la carte, disappointing! There's very little selection in their a la carte menu. The breakfast, though, was ample and and with variety.
If you want a quiet stay and tranquility, then this is an excellent choice. If you want to see young people and a bit of noise and fun, this is not the place for you.

A very relaxing stay

We would love to go back to this high quality resort due to its great service and fantastic food. The rooms and pool area are really suberb and the gym has a pole and free weights which is a must for any respectable gym. We even had the pleasure to run into the host/owner of the resort there who was a very friendly and helpful man. During one of our dinners we also chatted with a fellow national who traveled around reviewing hotels who could agree on that it was a resort of high standards. Many more nice things to say about this place but better that you experience it for yourself.
