Not to be missed!

We were initially uncertain about booking here due to some negative online comments; however, very happy we did! it would be difficult to pristinely maintain the property as it is historic and quite large, so if you’re looking for something with every modern amenity, this is not the stay for you. However, the property is a gorgeous setting and the buildings are quaint and charming. Our room was very spacious - a bit of noise transfer through the bathroom. Pool area is beautiful! Great breakfast with tons of selection. Friendly and helpful staff. Good location to easily access Cortona.

Hotel was ideal for a relaxed stay when visiting for a friends wedding. The pool area was lovely and the hotel very pretty. Main area for feedback was that the air con was not the most powerful so room was warm but not uncomfortable.

We were led to believe Cortona was walkable, it definitely was not.
Reception staff poor welcome and uninterested.
Disappointing restaurant was closed, so had to travel each evening for dinner.

We’ve stayed there before, but had a car. This time, it said they had rental cars and could assist with taxis. Not true at all! Most of our group had to walk from the train station with luggage and then we walked back into town after we were told there were no rentals or taxis that day or the next. We got lucky at a fiat dealer and we’re able to rent a car. Also, the air conditioning was not reliable in two of the rooms and my son was told it was June and he could open a window (no screens). I always confirm there is air conditioning before booking hotels. I’m not sure if they have new management, but I was disappointed

It was empty. They acted like they had no room for us but we were the only ones there. I felt unsafe and unwelcome. We left before we even got there because we could not get around the area and they did not help us try and get a taxi.

Definitely recommend a car for visiting the surrounding area and reaching the hotel. The restaurant food was good, although a little pricey for what was served. Pool was wonderful. My comfort double room was very clean, comfortable bed, and very large and clean bathroom. The property was lovely and has many fruit trees! The breakfast was quite good with excellent coffee!

A Nightmare - Decadent and low level

team from the beginning did not pay the slightest attention to us, being strangely grumpy and unprepared. Breakfast awful…waitress complaining and going out to smoke all the time… one star is better… room was smelling very bad. we called to the reception asking for the manager, who never came to our room….

Great Hotel for starting a Tuscan Tour

We loved this hotel, and were only sorry we had just one night there. The grounds are superb and make you feel as if you are living in a very nice estate just outside town, in a self-contained park that was very relaxing, and in a room that was antique yet modern, and super comfortable. The town of Cortona is a short drive (or a LONG uphill hike) and a perfect introduction to Tuscany. We arrived on a warm sunny afternoon and had enough time to use the lovely pool to relax after a long drive from Napoli, and before heading to Cortona to explore the town for some touring and an alfesco drink before returning for a very memorable dinner on the hotel's terrace. My one son who had to return to Hong Kong the day before saw our pictures and was terribly disappointed to have missed this stay.

This may be a bit far afield for a base to visit all of Tuscany, but it is a perfect venue for that area of Italy, and a great place to start our Tuscan tour. Would return in a minute!

The hotel and amenities were lovely. It did seem strange that there was nowere to buy a drink or a snack during the day, except at lunchtime when a full restaurant service is available. Also it seemed strange to have to queue in receotion, sometimes behind several guests checking out and going through their bills, just to ask for pool towels. Apart from those minor items our stay was a joy.

A budget hotel in a nice setting

This hotel is in such a splendid setting, but it’s a bit deceiving. We had a friendly greeting on arrival, but never saw a soul for the next three days, except at breakfast. Breakfast was quite adequate, although no hot food available except for scrambled egg. We never tried the restaurant for lunch or dinner. Parking was quite easy and accessible, and the location was good for Cortona and Camucia. Our room was very basic with a small fridge, and a safe, but no mirror except over the bathroom sink, no drinking water except pay-for bottles in the fridge, no tissues around the place, no English-speaking TV channels on the 20” telly. However, the biggest let-down was the double-bed. Sleeping on the floor would have been as good! The mattress and the pillows were like bags of cement. Very uncomfortable.
The wc/bathroom was passable, and the shower within was pretty good.
All in all a quite basic hotel with no frills or redeeming features that would draw us back there. However, you get what you pay for, and the cost of our stay was reasonable. So, if you want a basic hotel for a fair price then this should fit the bill. If you expect more comfort, more ambience, and more facilities look elsewhere, but be prepared to pay the higher price.

We had ants in the bathroom but the room otherwise was nice. We were told we had to have reservations for the restaurant but when we looked in there was lots of empty seats. So we went to pick up something down the road. When we got back we were told we couldn’t eat it on the patio that we had to take it back to our room. That was disappointing. Young lady at the front desk was very nice. Older lady was not as friendly

Tower room -10 awful do not stay in this room. It is 2 story! bed upstairs bathroom downstairs. Air conditioning was not strong enough for bed 3' under the roof! Hit my head on ceiling. hit my leg on stairs. Very claustrophobic feeling with roof only 3' above your head when in bed. very small TV set downstairs. No place for clothes upstairs everything was downstairs. Don't get this room!!

Great place to stay 5 Mins from Cortona, loads of free parking, beautiful pool really big with lots of loungers,room was immaculate, 2 bedrooms with a huge sitting area and the bathroom was all tiled and really clean. Only quibble was that there could have been a better juice option at breakfast. The juice offered seemed to be some sort of re-constituted vitamin drink that I have seen in Italy before, otherwise the breakfast was plentiful with lovely fresh baked cakes on offer with the usual continental offerings of Croissants, meats, cheeses, fruits, yoghurts etc.

Very nice hotel but why book a better room?

In most ways this is a great hotel. The desk staff in particular couldn’t be more helpful. The breakfast was very good and the pool was lovely with lots of space.
We booked a deluxe room which was nice but not luxurious so not really sure what real benefit comes by booking a more expensive room apart from the size?
We had two dogs which in Italy are normally free but were charged here at 10€ per dog per night. There are areas of rough ground in the hotel area where we could give them a bit of exercise.
Note that the onsite restaurant is an independent business so must be booked separately

We wanted to stay outside of the center of Cortona and this hotel was in a great location. It was beautiful and expansive. Staff was friendly and helpful. We were able to order drinks from the front desk which were delivered to our room. The restaurant on site was convenient. The antipasti was very good, other than that the menu did not have much of a variety. For a deluxe room the bed was pretty hard with a thick ridge around the perimeter that was not very comfortable. Bathtub/shower was big but water pressure in bathroom was not very strong. Nice little patio outside our ground floor doors.

Lovely Tuscan Hotel

Lovely hotel in a super part of Italy. Room were comfortable and very clean. Hotel pool was gorgeous - warm with plenty of loungers and a pool meal/drink service at lunchtime. The restaurant for the evening is separately run with a small but varied menu - plus an extensive wine list! - and is priced around the same as the local restaurants in Cortona (about 5 mins drive away). Hotel staff spoke excellent English and could not have been more helpful. Not the largest of hotels, but if you like to go out and about in the evenings, it's perfect. Note that some of the rooms are in different buildings, so if you go in a group and want rooms together, state this at the time of booking. It's perfectly situated for exploring Florence, Siena, even Pisa, with Arezzo (20 mins) providing excellent shopping. The whole area is filled with fabulous sights, history, and lovely Tuscan countryside.

Convenient and Lovely Grounds near Cortona

THe location was very convenient to all we wanted to explore in the area---if you have a car. Easy access to Old Town Cortona for dinner each night, but near the roads leading to Montalcino for Brunello tasting (about a 65 minute drive) and Montepulciano (about a 45 minute drive).
There are a variety of rooms so choose carefully. We were too near the front desk and could hear most transactions---especially during siesta time in the late afternoon. Our room was very small, but efficient and clean.

Pleasant and efficient reception, spotless room, and excellent value restaurant. Easy free parking. Excellent breakfast. Pleasant gardens. Wonderful nightingales singing throughout the night. A little disappointed that in early May the pool was not available. At the foot of Cortona, so not really walkable to the town centre.
Certainly very happy to return there.

Disappointing 2nd. visit

We spent a delightful 5 days here in 2015 in a deluxe room with terrace and decided to upgrade to a Junior Suite on this visit. Although larger with a separate sitting room, it felt dark and gloomy due to small windows and poor lighting. Only 1 mirror in the apartment which is above the sink in the bathroom. The shower had no force of water and would have made it very difficult to wash one's hair.
WiFi in the room was very slow.
Altogether, the room was a big disappointment.
The breakfast did not have the selection of cold meats and cheeses that we had previously enjoyed.
The front office staff are very friendly and efficient but unfortunately on this occasion were unable to help sort out a different room due to the hotel being full.

Beautiful old hotel in the heart of Tuscany

We decided to book this hotel as we wanted to schedule in a \"relaxation\" day during our two week holiday in Italy and it was near Cortona which we planned to visit. Old brick buildings located in Beautiful landscaped gardens. The pool was great but our afternoon was not very relaxing as 2-3 screaming children had taken over the pool. Needless to say our afternoon of peace and quiet and tranquility was interrupted. The rest of the clientele were elderly/mature couples and while this can happen anywhere, we this would be an adult escape when paying $200/night. Just not something the average family travelling in Italy with little kids would not choose to stay at. We decided to have dinner at the restaurant which looked like it had potential and the waiters did there best but they looked totally disorganized that evening...almost like they weren't expecting that many people. Dinner was a little disappointing in my opinion but I'm a little bit of a foodie so others may think differently. Breakfast was good with decent to good selection to get your day started. Overall, a great stay for what we wanted/expected. Service at hotel was really good.

Our Experience at Borgo Il Melone was great!
The staff send us an email with specific directions how to get there in case the GPS failure. Grounds are excellent and really pretty. Breakfast was great with fresh bakes and espresso drinks. Swimming pool was a great add on to chill after a great walk in Cortona which is a 3 minutes drive. Overall a great stay and we will definitely go back again and again.

Nice B&B but needs a restaurant and bar

They have a building for a very cute restaurant and tavern but they are not in service. The hotel owner is apparently looking for someone to run them while he runs the hotel portion. This would make is so much nicer because it is a very nice property. The pool is huge and very nice.

This property was the finest of the 6-7 we stayed in in Tuscany. Lovely stay!

Had a great 3 days here! Close enough to get to Cortona & Montepulciano. The staff was awesome and the estate was beautiful! Only issue we had were the beds- too hard. Would also prefer a better breakfast. Besides that, I would come back again. LOVE the place!

Borgo Il Melone

This is an estate residence with absolutely gorgeous gardens, a wonderful pool, restaurant, tavern, and both rooms and apartments. It has its own church and performance space where we heard the Oberlin Opera performace student group give opera vignettes. The food is world-class and the service excellent. That being said, it sits at the foot of the mountain on which Cortona commands the valley and at the edge of Camuchia, which is the arrival town for trains. We rented a car for two of our five day stay which gave us flexibility without having to shell out euros for taxis every time we wanted to do something. The wine tours are worth it and Cortona is a wonderful destination place and is convenient to Assisi, Perugia, Montepulchiano, and several other small, charming, hill towns. The wine and cheese is to die for including what you get at the local market. Be prepared to spend if you want to see the country-side, but it was worth it. The Borgo arranged everything for us and it was all good. If you want a country estate experience, you cannot do better.

Our Honeymoon stay was wonderful in every way. The location, Staff, and the view from our large Tuscan room. II Melone set up a special Dinner for us the frist night we arrived. The staff was great in helping us get to the different towns. The staff set up appointmets with the Wineries. We had a very special vist at one Winery that was out of this world...They sent us to a great Restaurant and a wonderful town called \"Peniza\"...We wish we were back there and vist all the towns and stay at Borgo II Melone...

My wife and I, ages 31, had a wonderful experience at Il Melone and would have no problems going back if only we didn't want to experience other parts of Tuscany, but it's location makes it very convenient for daily trips around the countryside. Other than taking a 5 min detour to find the actual address, we had no complaints from Alexandro who welcomed us, to the daily breakfast, our rooms we're always spot clean (usually while at breakfast), the pool was perfect & the location to Montepulciano, Pienza and of course Cortona made it the perfect spot. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to get away in Tuscany for a couple days, it's vicinity to the local vineyards, Siena and Florence are not too far off for the art connoisseurs & the food and hospitality in the region are unbeatable.

Garden Paradise

This hotel had all of the romance of visiting the villa of wealthy Italian friends. The rooms are large by european standards and the bathrooms are immaculate and well appointed. The staff was very helpful and a delight to talk to (Hi, Gloria!). The breakfast was meats, cheeses, fresh breads, cereals, yogarts, fruits, and made to order coffees or tea served in a small tavern setting. The restaurant is for special nights and is a dress up affair if you get my meaning. We stayed for a week and used the hotel as a base to visit Florence, Assisi, Montepulciano, Pienza, the Greve in Chianti wine festival, and Voltera. All the day trips were adventurous 1-2 hrs road races Italian style each way through beautiful countrysides.The hotel was a welcome home to return to and Cortona (a 5 minute drive) would be our usual dinner destination (Dolce Maria and Fulfans are wonderful). Cortona was by itself a joy, as well.

Außen hui, innen pfui

Sehr schönes Anwesen, aber leider nur von außen. Unser Zimmer war total alt und abgewohnt und hatte nichts mit den auf der Internetseite gezeigten Bildern zu tun. Wir hatten das Deluxe Zimmer gebucht, welches jedoch weder von der Größe noch von der Einrichtung den Bildern entsprochen hat. Im Bad war Schimmel an der Wand.
Die Dame an der Rezeption zuckte nur mit den Schultern, dazu könne sie nichts sagen.
Zum Glück hatten wir nur eine Nacht auf der Durchreise gebucht.
Das Frühstück war okay, typisch italienisch mit viel Süßkram und wenig gesunden frischen Sachen (es gab immerhin frisches Obst). Dafür gab es frisch gebrühten italienischen Kaffee. Das Servicepersonal beim Frühstück war sehr nett.
Den Pool können wir nicht beurteilen, da dieser geschlossen war.

Charmant petit établissement! Je recommande pour sa tranquillité et sa proximité avec la magnifique petite ville de Cortone.

Les points positifs;
1- Joli domaine: architecture de pierre, fleurs, boiserie, etc.
2- Son emplacement : à seulement 5 minutes en voiture de Cortone et à quelques minutes d'épicerie et de restaurants.
3- Tranquillité : wow! Aucun son, quelle tranquillité ! Comme les chambres sont réparties dans plusieurs bâtiments, les soirées et les nuits sont calmes.
4- Les chambres; Chambres qui sont plus spacieuses que ce à quoi je m'y attendais. Salle de bain un peu petite comparativement par contre.
5- Personnel sympathique.
6- Le déjeuner était bien: fruits, croissants, petits gâteaux, yogourt, oeufs et viandes froides.

Les points \"négatifs\":
1- Propreté de la chambre n'était pas parfaite et l'air conditionné ne fonctionnait pas.

La salle de bain était vetuste exiguë la douche difficile à utiliser. La chambre insonorisée on entend marcher et le bruit de ceux du dessus. Pas d'éclairage au parking.

The staff made our stay extraordinary, helping with a pickup by FedEx and stayed late to let us check in when our flight was diverted to Pisa and we arrived after midnight. The other hotel guests, a couple of German ladies, were not that nice and complained when the night manager helped us with our luggage up all the stairs.

A bit disappointed that the restaurant is closed, we hoped to enjoy a meal there but there is no lunch or dinner available.

But the pool area is lovely and we loved staying at this place.

Helpful staff.

Easy to communicate with. Staff that was really easygoing and helpful. Clean and with a huge bathroom. We stayed a couple of hour by the pool after checking out, which was a good relief for us that arrived late the day before. Big pool and a quiet area. Overall a top place for us that was driving a cross Italy.

Fint område, likte Cortona veldig bra. Dårlige rom med dårlig aircondition. Kjøleskapet på rommet var ikke spesialt kaldt. Frokosten var dårrlig, men fluer omkring på maten. Basenget var greit, men de kunne ha kostet litt mer rundt bassenget, så man slipper å gå på stein. Solswngene var bra. Det ble byttet håndduker og rengjøringhver dag som er et pluss, og at det var godt med parkering da vi hadde leiebil. Rommet vårt lå rett over noen parasoller som om kvelden ble brukt til å sitte å røyke under, og prating på kvelden. Ellers var personale ok, men ikke veldig smilende og gjestfrie. Kommer ikke til å bo her igjen.

A propriedade é linda, especialmente o jardim. O quarto é excelente, comuma vista lunda para o jardim.
O atendimento no café da manhã deixou a desejar. Ao chegarmos, faltava 30 minutos para o final do horário precisto. Mas os iitens quentes já tinham acabado e quando perguntamos avisaram que nao seriam repostos. Com isso sobrou apenas pão e frios, além dos itens doces.

Disappointed

I depends on what you want, but for us it was a disappointment. Spider web all over the ceiling. Trashed covers on the bed. The breakfast had no options, you basically had to eat sweet croissants. The juice was from grocery store. And the pool was closed, which was one of the main reasons we chose the place in the first place.
