Facility is clean and staff is attentive and professional, yet personable. As is with many small hotels in Europe, the rooms are small and showing their age but clean. The location is amazing, walking distance to most of the major attractions in Lucerne, and the train/boat stations are literally just around the corner (so getting anywhere outside the city is super easy)…I can see why Hotel Alpina is highly rated, and I would recommend it also.

Terrible service, unsafe furniture, un attentive staff and expedia did nothing about it. Bed was faked as a king; with a double twin beds separated in the middle and stuffed with pillows mattress pad on top and wallah it's a king. Ridiculous. one side of the bed was sticking out of the cot, the middle was too squishy with pillows hence, leaving us only about 2 feet of the twin bed to sleep on. there was no AC so a huge air cooler was kept in the bed side making it impossible to get in and out of bed. The cooler had a big pipe running out the window for drainage so we could not close the curtains. Overall expedia is loosing standards.

The location is perfect, being next to the train station, boat quay (for trips across Lake Lucerne), concert hall (for the Lucerne Music Festival), and steps from the downtown and famous old bridges. Since Lucerne is so expensive, having the train station underground mall nearby is handy since it has relatively affordable groceries (the Coop store is awesome). Also, the train station has an amazing Tourist Info office that’s a great resource, and its entrance is right across the street from the street Alpina sits on. So convenient! Also, the pizza restaurant next door to Alpina is fabulous, and the rooftop bar at neighboring Monopole Hotel is the perfect place to go after you check in, for the views and ambience. We loved the fresh fruit left for guests at the front desk each morning; it made for good snacks later when we were on the train back from the mountains. Alpina was perfect for our family of four; we appreciated the quad room that allowed us to have separate beds for the teens and two rooms. I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else.

If you want to sleep do not stay here!

Hotel Alpina is in a fantastic location—just steps from the train station, which made getting around incredibly convenient. The hotel itself is clean, charming, and the staff were welcoming and friendly throughout our stay.

However, there is one major issue that would keep me from staying here again: the noise. There is a bar called Franky’s located directly beneath the hotel, and unfortunately, the noise from its patrons at night is overwhelming. When we entered the room and saw both earplugs and headphones laid out on the bedside table, we had a feeling it might be a problem—and it definitely was. The noise was so obnoxiously loud we couldn’t sleep at all.

To make matters worse, the rooms have no air conditioning. While a small fan and what appeared to be a portable A/C unit were provided, the portable unit did not work, and the fan offered little relief. With no way to close the windows without overheating, the full brunt of the street noise came right in.

It’s really unfortunate because the location is excellent and the staff are lovely. If you’re staying on a Sunday night (when Franky’s is closed), you might have a different experience. But personally, I would not stay here again due to the lack of sleep caused by the extreme noise.

The hotel is older and does not have great air conditioning, but they do have floor fans in the room that were on when we arrived. We were on the 5th floor, so it's helpful that they have a lift/elevator. It is small but does the trick with luggage.

If a top priority is distance to the train station, this one is a good option.

Hotel Alpina is in a great location very close to Lucerne Main train station. Located in the heritage district, this hotel has character. We stayed for 3 nights. Evenings were a little noisy but that didn't worry us too much. The Las, I'm sorry I cannot remember your name, who was on the front desk was an absolute delight. She was always happy to see us on our return each day from adventuring into the alps. Hotel Alpina became our home away from home. On our second day we requested another fan for our room, and it was replaced immediately. I recommend Hotel Alpina and would certainly stay again.

Great location

This is an amazing central location in old Luzerne, perfect for Lake, trains, buses, central to restaurants and walks and with a view of Pilatus. Supermarket near by aswell. However, it can be noisy at night and no air conditioning due to historic building. Good value for money overall. The hotel's location outweighed the negatives.

NO AC!!! Be aware that this hotel has no AC. Typically the town of Lucerne has mild weather but we ended there when it was 90* and without AC it was hard to breathe and sleep. Besides that the hotel is near everything and very convenient to walk around.

Avoid at All Costs – Deceptive Staff, Miserable Stay
Hotel Alpina was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The front desk staff outright lies to your face — claiming someone is “inspecting the room” just to avoid letting you in before the 3 PM check-in, even when the room is clearly ready. Zero flexibility, zero hospitality.

The room itself? Tiny, claustrophobic, and stifling — there’s no air conditioning, and the space is barely livable. The bathroom is so cramped that two people can’t even brush their teeth at the same time. It’s like staying in a closet.

The elevator fits one person with a bag (barely), and the hotel is located on an incredibly noisy street where people yell and fight well into the night. It feels like a total ghetto.

Do not be fooled by any photos or reviews — stay far away from this place. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone, not even for one night.

The hotel is a beautiful old hotel, the rooms were updated with new windows and balcony door....which we needed because the street noise was loud and it was loud very late. There is no air-conditioning so leaving the window and balcony door open for the cool breeze was a must. Bed and pillows were comfy and the location is great for the train and overall sightseeing.We had a good stay.

City hotel, i expect the drunks, the inconsiderate drivers revving engines and the refuse trucks, but…In a quiet side road, unfortunately taxi drivers and food delivery bikes park outside for their next job and loudly talk across the road to each other. Fixed using earplugs. But what cannot be fixed is the club/pub on ground floor, noisy barstools constantly scraping across a hard floor, then at 3:30am the place is cleared, cleaned and tidied for 30 minutes and impossible to sleep.

Only concern is there are bars down below and people hung out on the street and got so loud until 2AM on the weekdays and 4AM on a Saturday we were there, hence there was earplugs provided in the room.

You have to walk to the Monopol sister property reception depending on the time of arrival/to resolve some issue. No AC in some rooms ; they told me they are not required to provide it because it’s a 3 star. I booked thru Expedia, who said there was AC. I was charged extra for an additional bed, which was more like a stretcher.

We reserved and paid for our room months in advance. When we arrived on a rainy night after traveling the receptionist informed us that they were over booked and they “upgraded” us to a hotel across town and all we had to do is go back out in the rain with our luggage and wait for a bus. Our”upgraded” hotel was near nothing at we spent hundreds of dollars over the course of 3 days on cabs and walked miles to get our group back to the area where we were originally booked, for restaurants a sight seeing. Another family was trying to check in at the same time and were also sent across town in the rain. Terrible experience. Do not book here and expect to have a room. They did nothing in they way of compensation, they just expected us to accept their incompetence and lack of professionalism. Zero Stars. Less if possible.

The hotel is next to a night club and a pizzeria. You can hear the night club all night long. The smell of the pizzeria filled the hallway and stayed in the room. I found an empty water bottle under the bed from the previous resident. The breakfast was very good though. I would not recommend this hotel especially for the price.

The room was ok but did not have air conditioning. There were two oscillating fans, which was nice, but we needed some cooler air so we had to sleep with open windows. There are several bars in the area and a restaurant next door. People were smoking cigarettes and the smoke came up into our room. It was Saturday night and the bars were open until 4 am. I was awakened many times, even with the provided ear plugs, and after 3 am, I could not fall asleep due to the constant yelling and screaming of the men and women at the bars. They continued to yell until 6:30 in the morning. It was awful!!!! The shower tiles were covered with epoxy at some point but that was bubbling up and rust and mold were behind the peeling epoxy paint. I like a clean shower. It was a very noisy location so I do not recommend it unless you like to drink all night. It was very close to the historic bridge and that was why I chose it.

I have stayed at Alpina many, many times. Now the reception staff is gone and I miss that. Also, could not get wifi to work in my room #33. Also, book in room had outdated info for wifi and no info on calling reception from my room. So I had to walk down the street again. 3 times went to reception, never did get wifi.... until overnight. It did attach sometime in the early morning hours. Very inconvenient since I was traveling the next day and needed to be able to reach the airline. Also, I like a washcloth in my room.

Mattress not comfortable. Only one pillow provided per person. Noise from pizza joint. Entry to hotel one has to pass through pizza eating customers who were curious about people entering hotel. Saturday and Sunday nights were rowdy drinking customers. One can see on Monday morning whole street full of garbage and plastic bottles. Though near station and famous bridge, deserves 2 stars.
Convenient to catch our buses. Very inconvenient for elder people to go for breakfast in another hotel Monopol.

Room was large and relatively comfortable however there was no air conditioning in the room meaning you had to open windows which allowed the traffic noise in. Shower curtain was annoying and it was difficult to set the correct shower temperature on the mixer tap. No I’m site parking and as we were travelling with motorcycles, the local car parks would not allow us to park so on street parking was the only option which was disappointing. Roof top bar good but could be better. Overall, an expensive hotel for the quality.

Never again in Summer. Swiss don't understand HEAT

chose this hotel for convenience, close to the Geneva rail station. But that's its only virtue. The room was HOT HOT and with the windows open NOISY NOI SY . The windows were double glazed to keep the noise out but this trapped the heat in. With windows open there was barely any relief from the stuffiness in the room. With windows open in came the nose from passing traffic. No air-con nor even a fan.

The room had been redecorated recently. & might even win a design competition for aesthetics but not fit for habitation by human beings. The wooden bed frame had perfectly formed square corners sticking out beyond the mattress.... taking the skin off my shins walking around the space between the bed and the wall.
Flat screen TV with dozens of “international ” channels EXCEPT that not one single English language channel was obtainable

Next the electrics.... Switzerland depends substantially on tourism.... especially hotels . You would think that by now the managers would realize that nobody from overseas has an electric plug or adapter which fits the the Swiss electric sockets which just have to be different to the rest of Europe. They could at least provide one socket of common EU standard or the two flat pins ype used in USA and Asia …. but no!

A fridge in the hotel room......... Forget it. get used to drinking water at 30 degrees C.

I changed hotel after the first night losing the next day's pre-paid hotel charges. Be warned.

HOTEL ALPINA IS IN AN EXCELLENT LOCATION FOR WALKING TO THE MAJOR SITES OF LUCERNE. WE WERE SHOCKED BY THE POOR CONDITION OF LOBBY, ELEVATOR AND ESPECIALLY ROOM CONSIDERING THE VERY HIGH RATE WE WERE CHARGED.
