great stay with a great host

our stay was good Paul was a great host and very helpful the hostel is in a good location for the subway and places to go eat its a quiet area around the hostel but a 5 min walk from a busy area with lots to do and eat .
only downside from the stay was the mattress was a bit too hard so was a bit hard to sleep on for us.

It was our first big trip overseas and Richard made our accommodations easy and painless! We stayed just over two weeks, and though the room was small it was great for our budget. Richard treated us like family, always made sure we had eaten good food, and gave us lots of recommendations. We could always rely on him to help us in a pinch, and he was ready to offer accommodations for items that didn’t come with the room (such as ordering us large towels). The location was excellent; very quiet and close to tons of shops, restaurants, bus routes and the subway. Thank you so much for your kindness and friendship, we’ll be sure to stay again next time!

OPPA Hostel Rated High for Good Reason

If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel, I recommend OPPA Hostel. Richard is a wonderful host and he goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable as much as possible. The room was clean and I had enough space to reorganize my luggage before I checked out. The washroom is a shower, toilet and sink combined, not ideal but you get used to it. The location is convenient and pretty quiet at night (4 min walk to Sinchon station). Would definitely return when I come back to Seoul.

Very convenient location to Hongdae and subway line 2/4/5, lots of restaurants on the street below, but be aware there are slopes and the hostel has stairs. Could be hard for large luggage. The owner Richard is really friendly and responsible. Basic communication in English/Chinese are both fine. Room itself is small but clean. Bathroom is separated from where you sleep but shower head is just above the toilet. Also only saw some small towels. Overall had a nice stay there.

It's not a luxury hotel, it's a hostel. Our stay was like crashing at a welcoming friend's house. The location is convenient to the subway, and also has a lot of shopping and places to eat in the area. Very walkable. Room was a good size (we had a bunk bed and a large bed), bed was comfy (we slept on the large bed, spread our luggage contents out on the bunk beds), and the blankets were great; my teen wanted to buy a set. It might be snug if 4 people were staying and had a lot of luggage. The bathroom was also a generous size and fully stocked. It's an Asian style bathroom, a wetroom, there is no shower curtain or shower stall so things get wet. Good water pressure and large bathtub. Room had a small bar fridge, and there is a larger fridge in the common area that could be used as well, as well as dishes and cutlery - like staying at a friend's house. He checked in on us via text when we were out and about to make sure we were ok, offered suggestions and assistance to make our visit easy. And he speaks English. Yes, when traveling to foreign countries, we should make an effort to learn the language, but sometimes we don't have time, sometimes we try and still suck at it, so having a host who speaks English was reassuring and made the trip less intimidating and more relaxing when we were \"home.\" Save the stressful attempts to communicate in Korean and bad sign language for when you're navigating the subway and your t-card won't work. 他也会说中文。

Richard, the owner was an excellent host during my first hostel stay. He went over and beyond to be accommodating and make sure I got what I needed. I got sick so had to spend more days in the hostel than expected and it was quiet where I was able to rest and recover. Very grateful for that!

Great location for a good price

Great location with a subway station less than a block away and a 24-hour dumpling restaurant about 2 blocks away. The place was affordable and clean with great service. Wifi was strong in the lobby but it was spotty in our room. Sometimes it worked and other times it didn't.

If you aren't looking for much, it's fine.

The stay was not ideal, we were not first time visitors to South Korea, and we know what to expect in terms of hospitality. Perhaps the host is accustomed to inexperienced backpackers, who don't mind all of the conventions of the hostel experience. However, we booked a private room, and the Hotels.com page listed a number of amenities that simply were not provided. Our host was helpful arranging airport transport and tours, however would schedule things without confirmation or consent, and then that was the plan we were stuck with. The hotel's space and rooms were clean and quiet. Not a terrible stay, just not up to the expectation set by the listing.

Fantastic hostel that’s in a great area with plenty of food options. Right next to the Sinchon subway stop. The room I stayed in felt like a hotel room since it was so well maintained, and had everything I needed to enjoy a comfortable stay. Richard, the host, was extremely friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for hotel quality but at a hostel price. Amazing place.

Boarding school - BEWARE !!!

Room did not have a table and chair. The wall papers were torn out and tv sound was not working. The fridge was not plugged in. Towels are not provided and when I requested a small face towel was given. There is no kitchen in the place and breakfast consists of a toast and jam and butter only. The room felt cold since the owner tries to save money by switching off the heating when you are not in the room. You cannot carry your room key either and are forced to leave at reception.

The owner does not allow any food, drinks in the room and threatens of fines if you do so. You are also not allowed to invite any friend /s in the room and if you do so then there will be a fine. The place is run like a boarding school and there is too much of heavy handedness as mentioned above. Avoid !!!

Keep in mind that this is hostel and not hotel, do not expect too much. The building is clean and nice and comes with lift and weighing scale.
The hostel was on a slight up hill, and walk distance about 10min to Sinchon Station Line 2.
The hostel supply light breakfast - bread, jam, milk, water, corn flakes etc..
The host was good, overall was ok except that the room was pretty small. But then the bathroom was huge ratio to the room.

Short stay but it's worth it

We only stayed there over night before going to my bf home town but location, price and amenities are all good. It's very accessible with subway and bus station nearby. Just a little walk you can also find a lot of place to eat. Richard who welcome us is very hospitable and friendly. I was surprised he can also speak a lot of language. Will make sure this place will be on my list again next time when I visit Seoul.

Very value for money

I stayed at Oppa Hostel for 12Ns with a friend. The hostel owner, Richard, was kind enough to upgrade our room from the twin room to deluxe double room, which actually comes with a bathtub in the toilet. Richard can speak many languages, so communication definitely isn't a problem. He helped us with ordering food in, and also recommended places of interest to visit. Wifi speed in the room is fast and steady, and there is a fridge, hairdryer, aircon, and TV. Washing of clothes can be done from 12pm-8pm, and hung in the room to dry (not a problem for short-term travellers). Although the Hostel is located in an area with many motels (plus a temple), it feels very safe since we hardly ever see anybody. There is a slight hill up, which is only problematic for the old, young, or people with very heavy luggages.
The hostel has a lift, and I cannot stress how important this is, since I had to drag my 30KG luggage down a long flight of stairs during my previous stay elsewhere. Location is good, Sinchon itself has many eating options, and Hongdae and Ewha are within walking distance - so shopping and drinks/food are all available in excess. I have definitely stayed at better hostels before with nicer room deco/common area, but Oppa Hostel is excellent if you are on a tight budget, but still want private facilities (i.e. toilet).

Nice hostel for short stay

As a foreigner, it was very difficult to find the place after we got off the airport shuttle in Sinchon station, so make sure to do your homework before going! The owner, Richard, was friendly to my friend and I when we arrived and helped us call a cab when we were leaving. We got one of the bigger rooms (a room with 2 bunk beds) but space was still a bit cramped but it was doable and what we expected. There is AC, hairdryer and TV. I was surprised that there was no shampoo and body wash but we have our own so it was no problem. Overall, experience was good. We stayed for one night.

This is my first stay in guest house. There are private rooms, and my room had also shower and toilet. It is convenient to access to Hongde, with 15 minutes walk. Breakfast service helped too.
The owner was kind for me, he can Japanese, Chinese and Englise. I'll use here again when I come to Seoul next time.

Comfortable small room which able for both of us with big luggage. Clean room, clean en suite bathroom with shower, air conditioner works fine. Free flow clean hot/cold water at the lounge area , great wifi access. Nice motel near the beautiful Ehwa University

Oppa Hostel is located above a motel and karaoke. May hear karaoke noise in room. Room is small ( though same can be said for most rooms in Seoul), deco is slightly out-dated, but sufficient, with big HD TV and PC. Breakfast is free but limited to toast and coffee/tea in the reception office. Location is super good -- 5min away from Edae staton, 10min away from airport stop (5min if you dun carry heavy luggage). Overall, Oppa Hostel is a good choice for budget travellers.

The OPPA hostel experience was wonderful! Richard was so helpful with everything and whenever I had a question, He had the exact answer I was looking for. The location is great, with it being very close to Ewha University and close to many boutiques for both men and women. The shopping area made it very easy to shop for everyone in my family :) I would definitely recommend this hostel for those looking for a budget-friendly hostel within Seoul. It is close to nightlife, as well as near many historic sites. Overall, an amazing stay!

1人での滞在ということもあったのか、オーナーの方が色々と気にかけてくださって、ありがたかったです。

一度水道系のトラブルがあったのですが、夜にもかかわらず直ぐに駆けつけてくださり、助かりました。

また、立地の割にリーズナブルで、駅近ですが周辺は静かで外の音は気になりませんでした。

とても親切で気さくなオーナーさんのお陰で、毎回安心して宿泊しています。
今まで私が泊まった部屋は毎回清潔で、テレビ、ドライヤー、冷蔵庫、シャワー、トイレ、全部問題なく使えてとても快適でした。

The stay is valuable, Hotel is located exit 4 in Sinchon station, where are lots places to go. Price is very good in downtown Seoul. Staff is friendly, willing to satisfy your need and provide help.

Comfortable and good location with private bathroom and good accessibility to a lot of things such as hairdryer, washing machine and microwave. staff can speak lots of languages so we didn't have any communication problems
