Location excellent, staff were lovely and very helpful, pool area great, beach beds shaded under coconut palms. Sea had a lot of weed but still fine for swimming. Food was good and they set up the dinner dining area in different locations including twice on the beach which was magical.

Beautiful place. Very comfortable Staff is so friendly and saw to our every need. Only problem is it is far to drive to other parts of the island from-which we knew but it does make it difficult to explore. Also would be nice if they had some type of opportunity for food other than the set hours for breakfast lunch and dinner. Other than that it’s a beautiful place and would highly recommend

We enjoyed a wonderful week at Sunset Bay as a family following a safari.

The resort is superbly designed, full of palm trees and greenery and is also the only one in the area to have a seamless transition to the white beach. There are always plenty of sun loungers and due to the relatively small number of rooms, there is always a very relaxed atmosphere.

Really unique makes the resort the entire team. All the staff, without exception, are very friendly and professional. The manager Shirley is fantastic. Always approachable, helpful with literally every question and inquiry and as a guest you feel very quickly like at home.

The food was excellent. A very wide range of dishes from all over the world, served every evening in a different place (On the beach,at the pool or in the restaurant).

The kitchen staff is great and for us it was especially helpful, that our daughter that suffers from the celiac disease, has prepared for breakfast, lunch and dinner excellent gluten free dishes for her.

And unlike other places that claim to cook gluten-free, at Sunset Bay there was a real understanding of the requirements that gluten-free dishes entail. That all four of us were then able to enjoy for a week the great food with lots of variety was a great relief.

If you are looking for a lot of \"action\", you will probably find it more in big hotels and resorts. However, we can't think of a better place to relax and enjoy the sun, sea and local cuisine and hospitality.

The property is just basic. However, very relaxing! I witnessed some very unsanitary things happening with food and utensils. That turned me off and honestly, I was counting down till my departure within 2 hours of being on the property. They do not do anything to protect the food and they stick a wild cat in the cabinets that they store the silverware. This particular cat had all sorts of cuts around his neck and head, The thought of a cat let alone a wild cat in his condition being mixed closed into a cabinet where they were storing silverware for the guest is appalling! There was a limited terrible breakfast offered. However, after seeing the cat being stored with the utensils, eating was the farthest thing from my mind! The plus the owner/manager was really sweet. The rest of the staff was just okay.

Good boutique hotel

It a small hotel and staff all friendly. It may not be for everyone it depends what you like. The pool was clean. The rooms ok, nothing to write home about. Bathroom dirty tiles and in the corners of floor. All in all we had a great time. Food varied but you need to choose what you want for the evening meal at breakfast in the morning. There is a choice of 3 starters, main and dessert. Sometimes there was nothing I liked but they can tweak it if you ask. The beach has a lot of rubbish and seaweed and is tidal so cannot always swim. When tide is in the sea is like a bath, so warm. We would recommend this if you are not setting your standards too high. Also good idea to book half board as only the rock restaurant as alternative and you will either need to walk or get a cab.

Michamwi, s place to relax.

A great small little hotel, if looking for a place where to relax you found your place, not much to do more than doing nothing. Pictures on Hotels.com are genuine, great management as well as staff. The only thing that travelers must be aware of it that the tide is clearly not to be neglected, bring reef shoes. If looking for more action it’s just a seven minutes walk and you find a hip beach bar where you also can rent jet skis for example.

We had a wonderful 4 night/5 day stay at this property. With only 20 rooms, you got very personalized service and all the staff were very friendly and helpful, and compliments to the chef as the food was great! If you are looking for a nice quiet place to relax and appreciate the sunset this is the place. Although the beaches are public, we felt like we had the place entirely to ourselves, never had to fight or rush for beach chairs/loungers.

Staff and management were very friendly and accommodating. We were a family of 4 with two small boys who are picky eaters. The staff accommodated special kids meal request anytime during our stay.

Beach is beautiful and the water is very warm. The pool is a nice break, very clean and warm as well.

I communicated with the hotel prior to our arrival and always received a quick response. We didn't venture far from the hotel beach however other guests took advantage of various off-site activities.

Keep in mind there is only hotel laundry services so pack accordingly and no market or store that is within walking distance to get snacks etc if you are travelling with children.

The hotel arranged transit to and from the airport with no issues.

Just what we were looking for

Beautiful place, though a little bit hard to find. As we arrived I thought we had gone the wrong place, but as soon as the gate opened I understood that our stay would be as wonderful as I had hoped.
The resort is perfectly sized. It offers tours, a spa (did not visit), pool, two places to eat, a bar, and some water equipment (SUP, kayaks, ...), while it is not so large that you feel invisible to the resort management. The beach works well both for swimming and splashing around. Rooms are very comfortable. We will definitely recommend the place to our friends.

A perfect place to stay

We stayed 3 nights at Michamvi and found it to be exceptional.
The level of service is excellent, the food and accommodation just what we expected and the facilities were great.
Particularly liked the fact that they have canoes and snorkeling gear, together with a beach volleyball court - kept us more than occupied.
The setting is also excellent as whilst its on the quiet side, the beach is much better, there are beach bars in both directions, together with a few alternative places to each should you feel the need to wander.
Just for the purpose of suggesting some form of small improvement, I would organise some form of post dinner activity (say 3 or 4 times a week). Guests are not looking for anything too touristy - perhaps wine tasting - perhaps someone just playing the guitar at the bar. Something low key.
The only other thing I can suggest is that perhaps give guests a 1 page list of places that they can walk or canoe to - the mangroves, the hidden beach bars, the great walk around the peninsular - it would allow people to cherry pick what they wanted to do up front - good for the adventurous types.
Overall however - excellent - would definitely go back!!

Excellent location. Amazing staff and owners that couldn’t do enough for us. Right on an amazing quiet beach. Only 20 rooms and although we had a large family group with very active kids they were not too intrusive. The facilities are very adequate and although the bedrooms were basic they were large and comfortable. The breakfasts were great and other meals quite OK. Nothing to rave about but good tare.

If you want to really get away from it all and spend time relaxing at the beach I can only but recommend Michamvi Sunset Bay.

Rooms could use some soft furnishings

Great location on a nice quiet beach. Not a whole lot to do in the are, but hotel has nice lounge chairs right on the beach as well as a restaurant and bar right on the beach.

The hotel seemed to be popular with middle aged Germans. They change the location of dinner every evening (in one of the 2 restaurants, by the pool, or on the beach), which is nice, but the food was nothing special (typical hotel food trying to cater to everyone). We were happier with the grilled seafood from the nearby beach bar.

My one negative comment would be on the rooms. The rooms are big and everything was clean, but the lighting and decor were quite stark. Compared to other hotels we stayed at on the island in a similar price range the room didn’t have a cozy or local feel. Other hotels also had a complementary fruit basket and a fridge. Given the hot weather a fridge for water would have been nice.

One nice thing - on check in I gave instant feedback on hotels.com and mentioned that the rooms lacked amenities. The manager approached us at dinner asking if there was anything she could do. One thing I mentioned was that there was no body lotion in the rooms. She said they didn’t have any but offered some oil from the spa. I said no thanks and wrote it off, but later on a big bottle of Dove lotion was delivered to our room. She had the other manager pick it up on his way. Really nice gesture and totally unexpected!

Excellent resort with a personalised experience as they only have about 20 rooms. Staff go the extra mile, great beach, excellent food and very relaxing. Even when full, doesn't feel crowded. Highly recommended.

Great little hotel right on the beach, very friendly staff, nice clean rooms facing out to their tropical gardens and blue sea. Breakfast and dinner is nice. The atmosphere is amazing which probably reflect a very good management team. The only thing to be aware of is that the tide in Michamvi Bay means that the sea is not accessible parts of the day and it can be a bit \"untidy\" as lots of debris wash up in the otherwise white sand. The WiFi cover was my biggest problem though, it's very patchy and due to their setup (other places on the island was ok).

So glad I booked this hotel!

I'm usually not the one to write reviews but couldn't not write one for Michamvi! We were two couples that booked the resort for a few days after our Safari trip and couldn't have asked for a better place to unwind at and celebrate the New Year. The resort is tucked away at one end of the island because of which it's not super convenient to visit a lot of places by foot but it's super easy to arrange for a car to take you wherever you want to go. The resort is impeccably well-maintained, the views are amazing, the breakfast is amazing (LOVE the homemade nutella), rooms are super comfy, but above all, the staff is OUTSTANDING. From servers and waiters to the managers, everyone is just amazing. They were super helpful and helped us with all our bookings to visit other parts of the town, snorkelling, dives, etc as well.

Amazing job and I really really hope to come back one day!

First impressions last, our home in Paradise

We arrived just as the sun was setting and was greeted by the Guest Relations Manager, Simone, with a refreshing, white face towel and a glass of freshly squeezed juice. A welcome like this immediately made us feel special. The Managing Director, Brad, made us feel so at home, spending time with us whenever he saw us and even provided us with snorkeling gear to take along on our safari blue tour. The staff were super friendly and tended to all our needs, even providing us with some insect repellent to ward off the pesky mosquitoes. The themed dinners were a nice touch and the food was really good. The staff pride themselves in getting to know each guest was more than we could have asked for. The resort location is nothing short of breathtaking and makes for beautiful pictures (you don't need to be a photographer to capture such beauty). Housekeeping made sure our room was always clean and tidy and the turn down service was a nice touch. Thank you Michamvi team for your hospitality!

After reading the reviews for Michamvi Sunset Bay I decided to chose them being that it's a smaller resort and I wanted that as a solo traveler. Upon arrival I was greeted at the airport by my driver holding a sign with my name on Michamvi's signature...very impressive. Despite the long drive my driver was great and got me there safely. I was greeted by Simone by name and given a welcome drink. The staff were great always smiling and greeting you with Jambo. The food was delicious and filling. Never had enough room to eat everything! The beach was clean and once the tide came in I was swimming in the ocean...beautiful scenery. Brad was awesome...he would check on you daily and see if there was any excursion you would like to go on because they would arrange it for you. Did I mention dinner on the beach...absolutely breathtaking!!! It was an amazing experience and I will definitely be back! Michamvi Sunset Bay is the best resort I have been to...service, food, staff, managers, owners....excellent! Thank you for treating me like family!

Absolutely stunning little hotel . After summiting kili we wanted to take a few days to relax and we never had to walk more than 50m from reception to your room , dinner , pool , beach or the bar . Staff are all great and food is excellent . They vary the locations of dinner too. An absolute must if you are travelling to Zanzibar

The service at Michamvi made an amazing vacation even better. Brad, Simone, and others(Shija!!) helped make our week one to remember. The hotel was super clean, the food was super fresh and delicious, the views were breathtaking, and the ambiance was perfect for relaxing. Each day, Brad would talk to us about what we wanted to do(snorkeling, hiking, eating out, mini-trips, dolphins,...), with nothing being a perfectly acceptable response; he took care of us in every sense of the word!! Bottom line: I would HIGHLY recommend coming here!!! You will not be disappointed :) Thanks for everything, Michamvi staff!

The hotel private beach is beautiful and food was good, not amazing, but completely acceptable. The room and hotel are very clean, all bottled water is included. I did get bunch of mosquito bites at night and the internet was strong at the bar but not in the rooms. The best part of the hotel was the service, I didn't do any research before arriving at the hotel and relied on the hotel to plan my weekend for me. They were very attentive and I had a great time. The hotel is a few detail away from being perfect like better coffee and tea, having its own spa service, but it still delivers a 5 star experience. I would definitely come back again.

Wunderschöne Anlage mit sehr netten Personal.
Unser Zimmer roch etwas muffig und feucht, aber ansonsten war alles top sauber.
Das Essen war gerade zum Abendessen sehr gut, zum Frühstück hätten wir uns etwas mehr Abwechslung gewünscht. Ebenso etwas längere Zeiten zum Frühstücken. Bisher von 7-9Uhr.
Kajaks und SUPs kostenfrei zur Verfügung mit denen man z.B. bis in die Mangroven fahren kann. Einsam, verwunschen. Wunderschön. Weniger schön ist, dass rechts und links vom Hotel wahnsinnig viel gebaut wird. Der bisher so einsame Ort wird bald überlaufen sein. Schön, dass wir ihn noch so einigermaßen unberührt erleben durften.

The moment we arrived at michamvi sunset bay resort we knew that we would have great and relaxing time there. It is a beautiful place and the staff was very friendly and helpful throughout the trip and made us feel at home.
The room was very clean and comfortable and offered a nice view of the garden/pool area and the bay. The beach in front of the hotel was cleaned every morning (like the rest of the hotel).
Due to a celiacs disease my wife needs a strictly glutenfree diet, and the kitchen crew at the hotel went all-in in providing safe and delicious options. They cooked the glutenfree food seperately from the rest, tried new recipies for bread, and the carrot-cake was perfect as well.

We definetely recommend michamvi sunset bay resort and will come back the next time we come to zansibar.

This hotel is magnificent with a location right on the beach, which is clean and has calm waters where you can swim without encountering sea urgents.

Nice place-Nice Staff, Beautiful beach and sundown

We had our christmas holiday at Michamvi this year, and we are so happy that we did. With only 20 rooms this place is just so chill and nice. The location overviewing Zanzibar island, but also the beautiful sundown over both the Island and ocean. Thank you to all the staff, but a special thanks to Shirley who went that extra step to make us even more appreciated as guests... :o)

Gemytlig resort

En gemytlig, vacker resort med härlig atomosfär och personligt bemötande. Michamvi på den östra sidan av Zanzibar är mycket lugnare än de exploaterade delarna i nordväst. Stränderna i Michamvi är vackra, men tidvattnet är påtagligt - så poolen fyller en viktig funktion mitt på dagen. Vi trivdes väldigt bra här, hela familjen.

Sur la belle plage de Michamvi

Hotel confortable, au calme, sur la belle plage de Michamvi. Nous ne sommes restés qu'une seule journée et nuit. Les restaurants et bars de plage sont sympa pour boire de très bons jus de fruits et cocktails. Nous avons moins apprécié la formule dîner du soir qui donne peu de chois de plats. Personnel et management très attentionnés.

We spent 9 wonderful nights at Michanvi sunset bay,a very quiet place,perfect for relax,beautiful grounds,stunning sunsets.Romantic candle dinners in different settings everyday,delicious food,good wine.Taking the full board option is advisable.
Very good staff service and management.
Perfect beach when high tide,a magical sandbar nearby during low tide.
Room is basic but well appointed.

Vi havde en fantastisk ferie på dette resort. Der var en rolig og behagelig stemning, da hotellet ikke er for stort og dermed et fint antal gæster. Sødt personale som er meget hjælpsomme, dejlig mad og virkelig smukke omgivelser. Hver dag så vi solnedgangen fra stranden eller hotellets Sunset bar, dermed ligger hotellet perfekt. Stranden er virkelig skøn (sand så blødt som mel), trods meget lavvande nogle timer hver dag hvor vi ikke kunne bade i havet, men så hoppede vi bare i poolen. De varmeste anbefalinger herfra hvis du ønsker afslapning, ro, sol, badning og at koble helt fra.
Vær dog opmærksom på at der ikke er meget at lave (ture kan bestilles via hotellet) og at der ikke findes indkøbsmuligheder tæt på hotellet.
