Pros: The recently renovated bathroom was clean, and the beds and bedding were comfortable.

Cons: Barbecue facilities were advertised, but none were available. When we enquired, we were told that it had broken that week and he hadn’t had time to fix it. We had steak and sausages to cook and had to rely on the electric stove. There was no knife for cutting meat or bread (only a tiny kitchen knife). In addition, the only frying pan was something you wouldn’t donate to a charity shop – it was old and filthy. The kitchen comprises a kitchen sink unit that contains all the crockery with a drawer for utensils. We had to wash everything before use due to smears. Considering this room is intended for four people, it is small with only one sofa, and the dining chairs are metal with no padding, which were extremely uncomfortable. The TV also did not receive Freeview only TV on Demand, which kept breaking up, buffering and finally stopped, as did the very weak internet. This would be okay if you only wanted a bed for one night, but we wouldn’t stay again.

Bed was very hard, bathroom was dirty, bed sheets and duvet cover had stains on them, James the owner or Manager was not helpful at all! Double booked on my first night which I had to go find another accommodation out of my own pocket! Office always closed, only talked through messages and phone calls! Worse experience ever, will never recommend to anyone!

Old but quiet

Motel is in the middle of a residential area away from main roads or the centre of town. It is very old with a tiny kitchen area and old bathroom (door had been removed from toilet to try and make more room in a pokey space). I would guess that the motel was built early 1960’s and they have splashed some paint around to try and modernise. The motel is not manned - the company sent a code to access a locked box outside the unit to obtain the key.

Arrived and the person was pleasant. However the key was not where they said it was which led to a longer wait time. The pool is stated online as open year round but it was closed. The playground is a hazard, the slide is rusty, the swing and seesaw were as well. There were no other options for kids. Shower is very slippery with no hand rail or extraction fan. A tv is definitely needing in the rooms with the queen bed in. There are locks on the bedrooms that should not be there. Bathroom doesnt lock and for the amount of money spent for 1 night i have to say it was seriously not worth it.

Quiet (mid-winter). An older property (1960s?) but redecorated. Spacious. Well-appointed, with kitchenette, bathroom and easy chairs. No table. Mattress was a bit lumpy. Short walk to Rennall St Railway Station. 1.5 km walk to town. Stayed 4 nights to visit family and overall it was a pleasant stay.

Convenient for what we needed, I would suggest to hotel staff to put in a large mirror in the main room, there is only one in the bathroom and due to no extractors just windows it gets steamed up quite quickly. A hall table with a mirror would be perfect as the bathrooms don’t offer much space for us ladies doing our make up etc no bench space to put anything on, so this could be easily rectified. Pleasant stay.

~2 weeks prior to booking, I asked to cancel booking but Expedia could not obtain any sort of refund. Motel said that I should have booked a different rate. However, I saw no obvious option for this on Expedia.

So I did not use the booking. I decided not to cancel because then the motel could have let the room again an profited further.

I also heard, so cannot verify, that motels are also used for emergency accommodation. This is not advertised. that means you could be in the same place as people not interested in having a quite time to rest/sleep.

I can say that I will not book this motel in future, and that I will be wary of Expedia... I should have got a refund, or at least a partial refund.

The room was nice, comfortable bed, well presented, kitchen and bathroom dated but tidy.

The main problem i had staying here is the customer service. Check in was fine, received txt with instructions on how to access room. Had to ask for breakfast as this was pre paid arrived after promoting. No room servicing provided even though was staying 2 nights. No breakfast provided for the second day even after promoting. When i brought this up to management they said the first breakfast was to cover both mornings. This basket consisted of 2 pieces of bread with condiments, a small box of cereal, 1 orange, 1 yoghurt and a pack of breakfast biscuits. This is not enough for 2 days worth of breakfast especially for the price paid.

A few things were disappointing for us. We arrived at 6pm to find room windows open and was very cold inside. The fixed heater on the wall was faulty and would not turn on. There was a stand alone heater but very few plugs to use at ground level. The TV would not receive any signal and therefore not working.
When trying to decide whether to leave heater on while we went out for dinner i checked the smoke alarm, which unbelievably had no battery in it!
The rooms were clean but very dated, and therefore extremely over priced. Location was quiet but a considerable distance from town.

Our 2 Brm unit was roomy and quiet for sleeping. Beds were okay. Cleanliness was just okay. Reception was lovely, friendly and helpful. Location for us, excellent.

Very disappointed in room decor and maintenance - peeling paint on the ceilings, the wall heater didn’t work and hanging off the wall. A small free standing heater was badly dented and no plug for it obvious in the living space. No electric blankets for cold Masterton nights. Bedding was warm.

Almost everything is old and dated. The photos look better than it is. It was not good value for what it was.
