This hurts me to write as I grew up in Masterton and Solway Park was always such an icon - NZ's most complete hotel, etc... When we came back to town recently to visit family, I was excited for my kids to stay there. Unfortunately, what we found was tired and in dire need of a refresh. I went to iron a shirt - the iron splattered red gunk (from the previous tenant no doubt) across my shirt. I went to call reception to ask for a new iron - the phone didn't work... I had a shower - the water ran cold after about a minute... Hopeless. And, as a local, embarrassing Oh, and I have to buy a new shirt now too.

Modern inside, clean and spacious rooms. The rooms are not appealing from the outside so i was pleasantly suprised. Unfortunately it was school holidays and some kids had their own rooms. Found it very noisey as the door was not soft closing so all we coukd hear till 10pm ware doors banging. Good facilities with a trampoline, in door and outdoor pool and lots of room kids can play.

The stuff in the breakfast bar if only they would smile, and because the coffee machine was broken, I had to pay for my coffee otherwise nice property to stay with and close each other town and breakfast was OK. Just need to tell guests that they need to park in front of their own unit as we have people parking in front of ours and head to park two or three doors up. This was a bit of an issue as my husband had mobility issues.

A Nice Country Hotel with all the Ammenties

This Hotel/Motel had all the comforts of a larger Hotel. What was amazing was the bathroom floor was heated, not needed in the summer but would be nice in the winter.
The room had a fridge, ironing board & iron, also a heat pump, but never used. If you get a room like we had parking was right outside the door, a nice touch. Check in Staff were pleasant & gave us all he instructions as how to access the room, we had rang asked if we could get into the room before the designated arrival time & they accommodated us as we were going to a wedding 50km's away, Thank You.

Loved our stay. The only 2 things need improving is restaurant service and breakfast. We had to wait 10 min or more to just get seated, nobody had time to notice us standing at the entrance. Plus we waited 20 min to get served. I could not wait any longer, I just went to the bar and ordered myself. Definitely needs improving. Breakfast food was not very freshly cooked, some things over cooked etc.

The room was spotless when we arrived and had a nice pleasant smell. We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel, as we didn’t have high expectations. The room is spacious, with queen-sized beds, and we appreciated the small dining table and ample storage. My daughter also enjoyed the heated indoor spa pool. Not a terrible experience, but the only playground had a dead bird in it, and wasn’t cleaned up when we checked out 3 days after reporting it - also the trampolines safety mats weren’t covering the springs. this meant we mainly stayed in our room with our toddler as there weren’t really sufficient areas for him to play safely or hygeinically

The rooms are tired and in need of an update. The facilities are good, but you are not close to any dining options and no shuttles are available. I think they may get away with the higher pricing due to the summer rush for weddings etc

Staff were friendly and attentive, parking is ample and free.

We stayed at the Copthorne Oriental Bay Wellington the nights previous which was 30% cheaper, more spacious, a sea view and with wonderful facility’s so this felt expensive by comparison.

Reliable and comfortable

Always a safe bet for a weekend in the Wairarapa. Easy parking and a good little indoor pool for exercise. My only criticism is that the one vegan mains dish has been taken off the restaurant menu. Being able to be catered for at a nice restaurant was part of the attraction of the Copthorne for me. Otherwise all good.

Property is quite dated, would be good to improve the soundproofing, could hear the neighbouring rooms and guests in the hall way at all hours. Tint the windows for privacy. Didnt have the league channel sky 4 so that was disappointing. The staff were very nice tho and the lady at the front desk was brillient very helpful giving us extra towels for the pool.

The location was great. Our room appeared to have been updated. It was immaculate and well appointed. We had parking just outside the room which I really appreciated. The facilities were quite extensive. We didn't get around to trying the restaurant. The staff were all friendly and helpful. When our kettle stopped working it was replaced immediately. I will definitely use them again.
