This was a charming little place very close to the river, restaurants and shopping and just a short walk to the subway. Check-in was easy, staff was nice and the rooms were well-designed, cozy and clean. The price was very reasonable and we would definitely return.

Our family of 5 loved the Gozan Hotel! We were on the 6th floor and our room was so spacious and with all the traditional touches. The beds were comfy and the kitchen are had all the amenities needed for our amazing stay for 1 week.
We cannot express how very pleasant the manger and staff were. They were all so kind and made our stay wonderful in Kyoto! Highly recommend for families and the location was perfect with a walk to Gion, shopping, and restaurants. We can’t wait to come back to Kyoto and will stay at Gozan Hotel again!

Gozan Hotel was a delightful place to stay during our spring visit to Kyoto. The management was very helpful to us during some travel difficulties we experienced before our arrival. I was put at great ease by their continuous communications with us, as they promptly responded to all our messages. Once we arrived, our stress disappeared. The facility is charming, and run very efficiently. We were greeted with some beverages to enjoy in our room. In Ryokan style, this Japanese beauty's accommodations were very comfortable. Amenities were superior quality. The kitchenette, restroom and bathroom in our suite were all top notch. In the morning, we were able to partake of the hotel's most delicious coffee in the lobby before heading over next door for a small breakfast sandwich and juice. We loved that Gozan was within walking distance to several places of interest, as well as the subway and the buses. The Gyon district is also nearby, approximately 10-15 minute walk. We look forward to visiting Kyoto again, and the Gozan Hotel will be a must-stay for us.

We (family of four) stayed in the deluxe suite and loved the space and amenities it offered. Two bathrooms, two washer/dryers, two kitchen/dining spaces and a large outdoor area were absolute luxury after the small hotel rooms we had been staying in. The location is great. It was an easy walk to Pontocho alley, Nishiki market and the Gion district and vey close to the subway to jump on trains to other locations we wanted to visit.

The location was great, easy 5 min walk to subway and bus. Only 15 mins to market and shopping.
The room was comfortable and a good size for Japanese standards.
It is nice to have a kitchenette and there was free water.
We only received 1 towel each and had to ask for extra towels which was not a problem. I asked for an extra pillow and they did not have any, that is a first and very unfortunate since it made my sleeping less comfortable.

Although we only stayed for one night, our experience was very comfortable. The room was a bit cozy with our luggage, but everything was clean and well-organized. The reception staff spoke excellent English, and the location was convenient for visiting the shrines, temples, and the traditional areas of Kyoto.

We loved our visit to this property. The hotel is just outside a nightlife area as well as close to the local Keihan train line and the subway. The room had a great comfortable feel to it and the hotel staff gave us lots of suggestions for what to do around the city. This was a great find!

I would give 5 if not for the breakfast that they provided, they will only provide a choice of 3 different grilled sandwich with coffee with Japanese breakfast standard they could’ve done better.

But I will comeback again if I had to stay in the area. The receptionists are very helpful, they gave us an early check in once our room is ready, we were 5 so we had the biggest rooms with an open air bath, 2 kitchenette’s, and 2
washer and dryer inside our room. It’s walking distance to Gion, Kamo river, Pontocho alley, Kawaramachi and Nishikujoimmachi market, the location is just so perfect!!!! This is our 2nd time in Kyoto I just wanted to soak into its beauty of this city! We would definitely stay and recommend this place.

Great place to stay

We were at the hotel for six days. It is the north end of the Gion district a few minutes from the subway, the river and walking distance from restaurants and shopping. Staff are friendly, helpful and speak English well. We had a room with a kitchenette which came in useful. The only negative, and a slight one, is the advertised breakfast is one of six sandwiches and a drink. Would definitely stay there again.

This was hands down the best hotel we have ever stayed at. We got the Japanese-style suite with tatami room and loved it the instant we walked in. Being able to sleep with the futon on the tatami was both a fun new experience but also super comfortable. The garden outside the room just added to the ambience. I don't know if all the rooms had their own washer/dryer combo but ours did and it was honestly a game changer for us. It made the rest of our trip so much easier not having to carry around dirty clothes for the next few days. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful and recognized us every time we walked in. If I remember correctly there's a subway station maybe 1 or 2 blocks away making it super easy to get to wherever you needed to go. There's so much I could say about this place but I'll let you experience it for yourself. If you're are staying in Kyoto stay here. It will be one of the highlights of your trip.

Not bad for price and location, and staff was very nice and helpful, however, I would probably not choose this hotel again if I come back to Japan. It looks not bad on first impression, but once I'm actually in the room and using the bathrooms and sleeping in the bed, it just has a \"ick\" feeling. The duvet comforter was rough/scratchy feeling. Walls are thin and easily can hear neighbors and noise coming from street outside, but luckily this is Japan, any loud sounds we heard were not persistant. But I felt like I can't even talk in a normal voice level without the next door hearing. There was also not enough laundry machines and wait times are long as it takes 3 hrs to wash and wait for the clothes to dry.

Very large room for just two people. Amazing quality bedding, yukata, and bath fixtures. No issues with the hotel itself, just the location justifies the price. It is a good 8-10 min walk to get to the busy streets with shops and restaurants, so be wary of you cannot walk too much. It is also on a major street, so there is quite a bit of traffic outside the window.

The hotel is in a great location - close to sights and the subway. Our room was very nice and comfortable. We appreciated having breakfast but know that the options are very limited. Also be aware that the hotel entrance is closed from 2-5 so plan around that.

Really nice place to stay. The room did give us a feeling of coming back home. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. Such a lovely place to stay. Transportation around the hotel was very convenient, 5 min walk to a subway station or bus stop. There were some very authentic local restaurants around the hotel if you are brave enough to step in; as a trade-off of the authenticness, the owners may not speak perfect English so get your Japanese belt up. I highly recommend this hotel if you have the budget, it worthes every penny.

This proved to be my favorite accommodation during my most recent trip to Japan.

Walking distance from Kyoto's Gion district and Yasaka Shrine, with easy access to trains leading to Kyoto's plethora of historic shrines, and walking distance from the Pontocho restaurant district overlooking the Kamo river.

Staff went above and beyond with quality service. As a result of recent cancellations, they upgraded my booking to a larger premium room. Our floor had free laundry service, which was incredibly useful. The room itself was spacy and retro-modern, with by far the most comfortable I slept in during my recent trip.

The staff is very knowledgable about the Kyoto area and will happily give you recommendations about areas of interest, good restaurants, or whatever interests you.

Would gladly stay here again, I absolutely recommend Gozan.

The Gozan Hotel was very clean and tidy. The staff were excellent and nothing was to much trouble. The rooms are a little on the small side but with its great position and walking distance to station, shops and restaurants, this is a minor detail as most rooms in Japan are small.

We've traveled around the world and this was probably our favorite hotel all around. Excellent and staff providing great care and recommendations. The hotel was clean and the design of the room was beautiful and relaxing. Bed was super comfy (med-firm). Shower was my favorite. Convenient walking location to Gion, pochonko restaurants, historic architectural area, easy bus transportation to the temples in the mountains and 4 min walk from sanjo station (limosine bus drip off directly from KIX airport).
