I stayed four nights over Christmas at The St. Regis Jing’an, having booked a Junior Suite but was “upgraded” without being told that the new room was in the serviced apartments, not the main hotel. This lack of transparency shaped a disappointing experience. The apartment lacked standard five‑star amenities like a coffee machine and did not receive daily housekeeping or turndown service until repeatedly requested.

Staff communication was inconsistent, with limited English proficiency, and the much‑promoted “butler service” was just an anonymous hotline—no personal contact or follow‑up. Operationally, the hotel seemed poorly managed, as shown by long queues at checkout despite idle staff elsewhere.

The room was spacious but worn, showing stains and cracks, and I even found a cockroach in the hallway that remained until I reported it. Food and beverage service were below par—lukewarm coffee, untoasted bread, and uninspired bar drinks. Facilities like the pool were fine but poorly communicated; required swimming caps were not mentioned until arrival.

Overall, the stay revealed systemic service and management failures. Staff appeared defensive rather than empathetic, and the brand’s signature touches—personalized service, elegance, anticipatory care—were absent. Having stayed at many St. Regis properties, this location fell far below expectations.

The St. Regis Jing’an lacks the polish, warmth, and attention to detail befitting the brand.

Location is good, very close to everywhere. Our suite had strange smell, and we changed room on the last night which also had different strange smell. There is no personal butler service which I thought is a standard service for St Regis's suite guest. No personal introduction and telling us about the hotel and service etc where other St Regis has.

Nice, clean rooms. Tons of renovations right now so loud and noisy. Air conditioning was HORRIBLE. Switched to different rooms… could never get AC to go below 24C which was unbearably hot and uncomfortable.

Oh yes. They offer you a 'promotion' for lounge access which includes transportation within 3 kms. When you do need that option they tell you you needed to give them 24 hours prior notice (and this is after checking you in for a one night stay...)
I would rather go to another property next time. The club lounge was empty and felt desolate to be honest. There was a bar and when we asked for some drinks they needed to fetch someone to prepare some basic drinks which did take a while. I'm not sure they were really prepare to handle international visitors to be honest (or people to consume at their bar for that matter...)
Do try and avoid the club lounge access; it is irreparably expensive and not really worth the cost.

The worst 5 Star hotel in Asia and probably ly one of the worst globally. The hotel management lacks complete awareness of customer service standards. The staff is completely ignorant and unreliable in their attitude to service.

Upon checking in at the hotel, I unfortunately encountered an error made by the staff. While the situation was eventually resolved and clarified, I faced difficulties when picking up my invoice at the front desk. The male staff member gave me a hard time regarding the previously quoted price and questioned why they should not charge me more. This experience was highly unpleasant and unexpected from a reputed five-star establishment.

I have been staying at the hotel many times when I am in Shanghai. It is in the city center and convenient. It was relatively newer hotel few years ago. However the service was not good to a five star St. Regis standard. No room was available when I was there at 1. Front desk said they will inform me when the room was ready. I waited 1 hour plus but no message. I have to check with the front desk again and they found a ready room for me. That was 15 pass 2 so passed hotel checkin time. No welcome or thank you said when checkin and out. Room temperature was not right and electronic window shade had a loud squeaking sound.

Great hotel worth staying

Overall it's great. The hotel is new and luxurious. It's nice of them to offer my family and I an upgrade to the Executive Deluxe Room at a good discount and we pleasantly accepted. The room was one of the best I've stayed in given its design, decor, amenities, comfort and cleanliness. Although the air-conditioning in the 1st one which we were given was not functioning properly even after repair, the front desk quickly arranged for us the room next door which had no such problem. The Club was also elegantly decorated, spacious and clean. Most of the staff were courteous, polite and helpful.

The most significant disappointment was the breakfast. Although it did offer a range of choices, the quality and taste were not good. It is definitely not what one expects of a 5 star hotel, let alone St. Regis; those of 4 stars hotels are even better. We were so let down after the 1st breakfast that we didn't even have our 2nd there despite the fact that we had paid for it, as we didn't want to waste time and stomach space on mediocre food when we were in a city like Shanghai.

So if the breakfast is improved, St. Regis SH will certainly be one of the best 5 stars hotel

The hotel is overpriced at its current condition and service level. Not up to the expected St Regis level yet. A water faucet did not work. I deliberately did not report it to see if the hotel follows the inconsiderate approach of \"No complaint, no fix\". They did not fix it. I requested a refill of my coffee at the lobby cafe. The waitress took my coffee cup and refilled it with coffee instead of giving me a new coffee cup with coffee. The above incidents should not happen at a hotel charging over US$300 a night. I shared the bad experience with the front desk when I checked out. They agreed that the room service colleagues should have checked all faucets while cleaning the room and the refill of coffee should be served with a new set of coffee cup. This is a new hotel under ten months old. This should not be an excuse for St Regis as the hotel group has tens of years in running hotels. I shall not stay in this hotel perhaps for another year, giving them time to improve and rectify the sub-standard services. Overall, the room rate is overcharged.

This may be my new favorite hotel in Shanghai. It has all the hallmarks that you expect from the St. Regis line: luxurious bedding, stellar butler service, first rate athletic facilities, and excellent dining. Centrally located in Jing'an, it's only steps away from People's Square and a rich array of dining and shopping options.

I chose the Superior King room. It comes with a lavish bathroom, including Japanese toilet, double vanity sinks, and a glorious soaking tub more than large enough for two with beautiful views of the Shanghai skyline. There was a nice array of coffee and tea. Kudos to the concierge/butler service who attended to a number of special requests for me, including a late night run to a pharmacy to pick up some contact lens solution.

The Social buffet is a good option for dinner. A great value with a wide array of well prepared dishes. I was also quite pleased with Yan Ting, and with the extraordinary selection of single malt scotch at the St. Regis Bar

There were only a couple, small defects in the experience. There was no complimentary fruit basket. A minor detail, but it is normally part of the St. Regis experience elsewhere in China. Also, there were no spoons or stirrers of any sort provided for the coffee service, which required me to use my toothbrush handle to stir my coffee.

A really great experience. I plan to stay there again soon.

步行至2號線地鐵站非常方便。夜間街上不會太熱鬧，但是治安也是好的，不用擔心。特別一提這個位置打車也比較容易，不會像在外灘酒店要加錢才有人接單。下次去上海會再入住。

酒店職員態度親切，附近有不少餐廳，但隔離南京西路站需十分鐘步程。早餐種類還好，但味道一般。
另外，我於下午3點check in 時，酒店指房間未清潔好，因此未有房間提供，雖然酒店指可upgrade 我的房間，但只能提供一張大床。我需要兩張床，因此upgrade 都沒有用。結果，酒店要我等待了45分鐘才提供房間，此事令我有感失望。

Housekeeping is very good very proactive and when I am always putting down the curtain they open it one day to let me see the good view as I have thought my room has no good view initially. The restaurant staff are very busy but one early morning when I need to pack up to go the expatriate chef come out to ask me whether I need to pack coffee to go too and he uses Chinese. I was thinking as they are so busy I better not ask for coffee to go but the staff are very proactive
