We absolutely loved our stay at Rockwood Manor. When traveling, we look for out of the ordinary places to stay, places with character, history, beauty... This wonderful place has it all. Our room was spacious, clean, charming, and had a beautiful view. Our bathroom was just around the corner in the hall, but was just ours so it really wasn't a problem. Robes were provided, too, which was thoughtful. In the evening we played games in the beautiful sitting room downstairs and just imagined the people and conversations those walls have witnessed. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and meeting the hosts a bonus.
By all means, don't pass this up. We'd come back in a heartbeat given the chance!

Beautiful property! Gorgeous room and bathroom was substantial for the age of the home.
Morning view was so pretty with the mist over the area. There is a substantial front yard with grass and trees. Gives a plantation feel. Front porch is a great place to relax in the evenings with plenty of seating and rockers.
Breakfast was really good, well prepared, and plenty. The manager was in contact via text before we arrived with easy to follow instructions. Only con is a drive to get food for lunch and/or dinner but for the beauty of the property, it isn’t a bother. Our room was upstairs so we did lug our luggage but after sitting all day with travel, this wasn’t a problem. I believe they have some ground floor rooms if you’d rather avoid stairs.
Bed was comfortable. Room clean and tastefully decorated. Room had a key for entry. Easy after hours arrival instructions, including getting the key to our room. Felt safe and secure the whole time.
Would definitely stay again!

Rockwood Manor is a beautiful bed-and-breakfast chocked full of history and family memorabilia. our room was spacious, well appointed and comfortable. The public areas were replete with antiques, maps and books all charting the rich family history. Our hosts were friendly and more than happy to share the history of the house and family.

We stayed for the Purdue vs. Va Tech football game. Blacksburg was an easy 30 minute drive. A perfect location if you want to get away from the game-weekend crowds.

We loved our stay. The house is beautiful and the owners thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. Chrissy made us an excellent breakfast! It is out in the country side and so peaceful. We saw a deer walk right by the house as we enjoyed our wine on the front porch rocking chairs. It was the highlight of our vacation. My husband especially enjoyed the architecture of this historic house.

Overall a great experience. The room was large and beautifully furnished with antiques. The owner Frank was a fixture at breakfast and offered tips on local sites as well as the history of the manor. We’ll definitely return for a visit when we head back to Va Tech to visit our daughter.

This property is gorgeous! Frank met us at the door and we were checked in in no time. Our room was huge and had everything we needed. Unfortunately we had to leave before breakfast was served at 9 a.m., but if we're ever back in this area we would definitely stay here again. Lots of common areas and a beautiful wraparound porch from which to enjoy a pretty sunset or an early morning cup of coffee.

Staying at Rockwood Manor is a wonderful experience. We have been there twice and have fully enjoyed the stay. The rooms are clean, the food is great and the company is terrific. Christie cooks a wonderful breakfast and Frank adds to the ambiance with the pleasure of his company! Not to mention you are in a civil war historical plantation! Beautiful home with incredible architecture and a warm and welcome country vibe. You can tell the hosts love this home and property and want to share it with all guests and visitors. Could not rate everything excellent as we missed breakfast because we were on a tight schedule, but I would assume it would be wonderful. Only dislike was the bed pillows, seemed at the end of their usefulness, not too fluffy, our room was very elegant and comfortable.

Rockwood Manor was a pleasant surprise to find on Hotels.com. The room was perfect. The bathroom was spacious. Loved the fireplace. Extra points for providing five pillows on the bed (rather than the standard 2). There were a couple of parlors to explore. The crown molding was original. The host prepared everyone breakfast and even sat down with us to talk while we ate. No complaints. If you're fond of 19th-century architecture and history, then you'll want to check it out.

Our room was in the basement. The hallway floor was painted like a garage. The room is huge but it was cold and dingy. There was a tiny handheld heater. No internet. It was out of no where. we texted the contact person multiple times for different information, no one responded. bed sheets and blankets were shabby and looked dirty. we ended up using our own blanket. they don't serve breakfast until 9 am. we couldn't wait that long, so ended up leaving.

We had a pleasant one-night stay at Rockwood Manor. The inn is conveniently located in a beautiful setting. The innkeeper, Frank, sent us an email with directions the day before our stay and were warmly welcomed upon our arrival.

Our room was large, with big windows facing the garden, an ensuite bathroom, and comfortable bed. We slept well, woke up early enough to be able to enjoy a short stroll on the grounds and the rocking chairs on the porch, before sitting down for Sunday breakfast with the other guests.

We would happily recommend Rockwood Manor to anyone wanting to explore this part of Virginia.

Frank and Rochelle are wonderful, taking care of every need. Sitting around and talking with them reveals a lot about the area. They make some nice wine too!. The manor house retains the historic period feel, and the library is a treasure. This area was important in both the Revolutionary and Civil wars, with the library showcasing the local influences. The grounds are peaceful and beautiful, so easy to sit on the porch and rock an early evening away.

Frank and Rochelle are terrific innkeepers and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The house is a historic treasure and the grounds are beautiful. It was very chilly the day we were there, so we weren't able to take advantage of the outdoors. We were on our way to Washington, DC and it was a fun stopover. Breakfast was delicious, too.

Rustic elegance & great hosts - a hidden gem

We found this gem searching the surrounding area of Virginia Tech. Wish I had found this earlier, as our son is a senior at VT and will be graduating in the Spring. Our hosts Rochelle and Frank were extremely accommodating. We immediately felt at home the minute we pulled up the long winding driveway. Frank met us outside and escorted to our room. The manor with its high ceiling decorative woodwork and wooden floors transported you back to the post Civil war era. The home possesses an elegant charm and the property was chock full of history. The grounds were massive and contained a small vineyard and barn where they host weddings and other events. Breakfast was served at 9am sharp and was delicious. The dining area was opulent and the conversation with our hosts and guests was enjoyable and cozy. I cannot say enough about the stay Rochelle and Frank are down to earth and treat you like family. If you are in need of a quiet, elegant, clean and enjoyable accommodation do not overlook this place.

A great place for a respite

My wife and I were looking for a nice, comfortable, clean, and quiet place to spend the night on our way to see our son in Northern Virginia. We chose BedandBreakfast.com for our search. Rockwood Manor was the perfect stop after having driven for about 10 1/2 hours. I must say that our stay exceeded our expectations in every way. Frank and his wife greeted us as we drove up and offered assistance with our luggage. We chose the Magill room for our stay. It was clean, comfortable, and spacious. I would highly recommend Rockwood Manor for a short or long stay. We plan to be theirs guests on our next trip thru.

Rockwood Manor is a beautiful historic home in the Southern tradition of elegance and hospitality. Our room was large and beautifully decorated. The hosts are wonderful people who are descendants of the original owners and take pride in the home and it's history. The grounds are beautiful and are suitable for outdoor events. We enjoyed our visit there to the utmost. The breakfast was lovely and served in the beautiful dining room, over looking the grounds.

Kudos to the Drummond family for running such a lovely B&B. I thoroughly enjoyed my overnight stay, and especially the kindness of the patrons. I felt like I was staying with family. And learning about the home's history was the icing on the cake! Breakfast was delicious, and my only wish is that I'd had time for a longer stay.
