Booked the room day of arriving at 8pm after a long travel day. The AC in the room was broken being 82 degrees in the room and 3 people come in and out to try to fix it allowing moths and several bugs inside from leaving door open. It finally got fixed 1.5 hours later however based on it being so late in the night I canceled the stay and went elsewhere

We enjoyed our week stay at the Salida Monarch! It’s not the fanciest place, but as an older motel it’s in good repair. There has been remodeling, upgrades and cosmetic repairs, overall it’s a lovely little place to stay. The location is good, the rooms are clean, comfortable, and spacious, the linens and towels are better than a lot we’ve experienced. There are regular rooms and then a few little cottages providing more space if needed. It was quiet without noise from other rooms affecting your sleep. The owners also manage and run it themselves and provide friendly and helpful service above and beyond most places we’ve traveled. They are what makes this little gem a great place to stay, and I’ve already recommended it to friends.

We stayed at this hotel over the 4th of July weekend. We are so grateful to have found this place! It was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. Our 2 dogs were welcomed with a low nightly pet fee! The hot tub was amazing. We will definitely be back!

Had a 3 night stay and for the most part it was great. The property is a little dated, but it’s clean and was very quiet. The WiFi was hit or miss at least in our room. Speedtest showed 2mbps one minute, then 40 or more the next. Very inconsistent. We didn’t use it in our phones, but we hook up a Appletv when we’re on trips. Water took a while to get warm in the shower and faucet. The box springs had some stains on them.

Our room (two queen suite with pull-out couch) was clean and comfortable overall. It had a microwave, coffee maker, and refrigerator. The location was great for the area, and the staff was very friendly and went over and above to try to be accommodating. The provided breakfast in the lobby was simple (coffee, juice, milk, yogurt, and an assortment of breads). Good if you're in a rush, but you might want to grab something more substantial from one of the coffee shops or eateries nearby.

We had a such a great time at the Salida Inn & Monarch Suites. The staff were very friendly & welcoming, in fact they went above & beyond to ensure we were satisfied with our stay. There's a free breakfast in the morning with a nice assortment of snacks & beverages. The property looks slightly rough on the outside, but the suite we enjoyed was one of the most spacious rooms I've experienced and was remodeled/updates. There's sufficient free parking and the hot tub in the rear was a highlight of an amenity. The location was right on the main thoroughfare Hwy 50/Rainbow Blvd. and a short 10 min. or less drive to the downtown Salida restaurants. Overall, for the value and location, highly recommended. We would visit again.

Loved this place! We stayed in a king bed cabin and it was a great room. They didn’t have anything super exciting for breakfast, looked like just cereals, pastries and bagels.

Salida is a very small town and everything closes extremely early. If that’s okay with you, or if you have to stay in Salida for something, this is a good option.

The only other con for me is they offer free early check in/late check out to those who book on their personal website, but you have to pay $15/hr if you book through a 3rd party site. I wish I had known this and I’m not sure what else I paid for because I booked on a 3rd party site. Compare their website with others and make sure all the fine print is okay with you before booking is my suggestion!

Several of them spoke under their breath after talking with me. Most staff were stand offish... The gardening staff was very nice. It felt mostly unfriendly.

We booked this property mainly because of a pool - we were on a driving tour in 90 degree weather so we needed to work-out in a pool. The pool was apparently newly under required renovation (not evident when we booked). Our initial room was visually crowded by stairs and the carpet was dirty. But the hotel moved us to an upper with a cleaner room. I would say the staff did their best within their means.

The room was clean, very large with a patio. It was the perfect room for our last night on the road from a 3 week trip across the U.S. and back. The bed was sooo comfortable and my bath in that huge tub was amazing!

Our puppy had so much room to run and get her energy out in the room, we woke up the next morning to, two beautiful deer right outside our patio. What a treat that was!!!
The staff at check in had a new computer system they were training on they were so friendly and helpful. We look forward to staying again!! Thank you!

The best looking part of this Motel( drive up) is the sign. Arrived to police cars looking for suspicious activity. The motel desk clerk was trying to be very helpful when I asked to cancel due to safety reason the manager has denied my refund. Horrible experience needless to say, I did not stay.

The whole reason my wife and I wanted to stay at this hotel was they have a beautiful pool area. So we booked the room anticipating some quality pool time after checking drove our car around back and the pool is locked up not in use. This website should have told me the the pool was inoperable so I could have made reservations somewhere else disappointed all the way around.

We had a very disappointing stay. The hotel had changed ownership/management the week before we stayed (Memorial Day 2026), and the new owners were clearly not ready to rent out or help guests. We stayed in one of the cottages and found mouse droppings all over the pots and pans under the sink. There was no hot water in the cottage. We discovered this after the office closed, so I just cleaned up as much of the mouse droppings as I could using water I boiled on the stove. On our second day, the sink plumbing gave out and flooded the kitchen area, at which point we told the owners about all the issues in our unit. Later that day, we came back to the hotel to discover the room to our unit wide open and nobody in the unit - fortunately we had taken valuable items with us. The hot water and sink were fixed, but there were still mouse droppings under the sink. Third, when the owners came to talk to me, rather than apologize for the unclean unit, they lectured me for not raising the issues with them earlier, and told me that none of it was their fault because they just took over the hotel and couldn’t possibly know any of the problems with the unit. I didn’t even bother raising with them the closed pool and the non-functional hot tub, or the other minor issues with the unit (like no forks in the kitchen) as I did not want to be lectured at even more. It’s too bad, because the location is great, but I would not stay here again with these owners.

Wow. Give the photographer a raise! I guess I had high expectations based on the photos. Either it was enhanced or those were OLD pics. We pulled up and the exterior was more worn than images showed. Even then, I was thinking the interior has to be freshly done then. No. It wasnt at the level I am expecting from my usual stays that have HIGH ratings like this one. There was dust everywhere. The couch was so stained. The curtain wouldnt close all the way and parts of the fabric wasnt attached. The ac didnt get as cold as we set it and we had it at 62 degrees and had night sweats. Even if the place was a bit outdated and aged, it should still be clean. The level of care from whoever cleans is way below an acceptable bar. Only good thing was the guy at the front. He was friendly. And that's the only reason I am even rating it 3 stars. And the bed was comfortable enough.

We had high hopes for our stay at the Salida Inn and Monarch Suites, but unfortunately the experience fell short in several areas.
Breakfast: Described as complimentary breakfast, but “breakfast” is a generous term. The spread consisted of prepackaged muffins, toast, bagels, cold cereal, and the only fruit available was apples. Don’t expect anything fresh, hot, or varied. If a real morning meal matters to you, plan to eat elsewhere.
Hot Tub: This was a significant disappointment. The hot tub was out of order during our entire stay — something that was never mentioned anywhere on the website or in our booking details. We specifically looked forward to this amenity. Guests deserve to know about this before booking, not after arriving.
Room Condition: The bathroom tub had visible stains and was dirty in spots, which is simply unacceptable at any price point. The carpet throughout the room was noticeably worn and dingy — not the kind of tired that comes from heavy use alone, but the kind that suggests it’s well overdue for replacement.
Bottom Line: The property may be conveniently located, but the condition of the rooms and the lack of transparency about out-of-service amenities make it hard to recommend. For the rate charged, guests should reasonably expect a clean bathroom and honest disclosure about what’s actually available. We won’t be returning until there are meaningful improvements made.

Room was clean and comfortable. Staffing was absolutely horrible. Five minutes after checking in desk person was gone - waited about 10 minutes and never showed back up. Had explained we made two separate consecutive reservations because of weather and wanted to stay in same room and supposedly was taken care of but the next day we were locked out of our room. Called the phone number on door two times and spoke with a reservation agent who stated she would leave a message (apparently it went to the front desk nobody was manning). After approximately 1/2 hour the maintenance man showed up and contacted someone to help us. So after about 45 minutes we finally made it to our room. The next morning I received another charge on my card for the room we’d already paid for. They stated it was because they hadn’t been paid by Hotels.com and when they got paid the charge would disappear. I have used Hotels.com for many years and have never experienced this before. It’s been three days since we’ve checked out and the charge is still pending on my card. We will definitely stay somewhere else next time we visit Salida.

There always has to be one and I’m it this time. Booked 1 night for basketball tournament and a few days later booked another night because the weather was turning bad. Notified hotel at check-in and via message on website of 2 separate bookings but 2 nights together so we could stay in same room. Chose pay at hotel for first booking and was charged on card full amount 2 days after booking and before our travel. Directly after check-in we went back to the office needing something, waited around for about 10 minutes and nobody showed up, they were gone. After 1st night went out to eat and keys didn’t work on door when we returned. Nobody was in the office or anywhere else. Called their phone number twice and received answering service that stated they’d send a message to the computer nobody was manning. Finally the maintenance guy showed up and he phoned someone to let us in our room after about 30-45 minutes of trying to contact someone. Leaving today and see they’ve double charged us which is pretty irritating after everything else and a night of loose sheets that came off the bed. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable but we can hear all the traffic on Hwy 50. I understand things happen and off season but all events combined has become too much. Staying here again is a definite no.

Property needs attention frankly - outside carpeted areas are dirty, needing sweeping and vacuuming regularly. The sink and tub drains were very slow to drain. The shower head is caked with calcification and didn't spray well. Room needs hooks near bathroom for towels. Beds are comfortable. Breakfast is very 70s, and you could easily add some whole grain breads, cereals and greek yogurts for little additional cost.

Staff was nice. Easy check in. Lodge could definitely use some upgrades. Old carpets would be first thing I’d remove. They’re a little smelly and have seen better years. Furniture is beat up. Hot tub is in a weird spot (my opinion) so didn’t take advantage of it.
Bed was comfy (firm which is what I like).You can easily drive to Downtown Salida from here so good location. Would recommend if you’re not looking to stay in room much and just need a bed to crash. I’ve stayed in other spots in Salida and to be honest, they are not that much different so you’ll be fine staying here.

The staff was kind and friendly however we didn’t have water for a period of time. The hot tub was warm at best and when we came back to the room to warm up on our jetted tub, that water was cold. The beds were uncomfortable and the pillows were uncomfortable. We stayed for two days and woke up with neck and back pain. The back deck had broken planks so we were afraid to walk in them. I wish I could give a better review but I must be honest.
