Pros- Speedy check in and easy check out, room was clean and tidy, free parking on site, fan in room, amenities given, commitment as per booking

Cons- (not the fault of the inn but caused us no sleep on the first night) Druggies who kept trying to poach us and our car. Our bathroom door was broken (we did not inform anyone during our stay).

The safety aspect kept me on tenterhooks during the stay but I cannot fault the room, cleaning or service.

Good location close to the centre of New Plymouth, the museum and Coastal walk. Facilities are rather dated. Basic but adequate kitchen. Shower was way too strong and the water pressure couldn't be controlled.

You get what you pay for. Advertise laundry services but you had to leave your laundry outside the door and they would do it. Wasn’t sure if this was an extra cost as the person at the desk was new and wasn’t sure. I done my own at the local.

The only thing we liked was it had sky, even though the colour on it was dreadful. The bed was passable and okay comfort. As for the pillows they were like dead weights and so heavy and uncomfortable. One part of the curtain was torn, the other part was dirty, the shower curtain was disgusting and stained at the bottom and when you had the shower going the water did not drain so you were standing in a pool of water. On the front door is a curtain, that was so grubby! I thought Braemar Motor Lodge had standards, but not this one. It kind of looked like they might have clients that are in emergency housing. Everything needed a big overhaul. There was an odd smell as well when we walked in. The cooking facilities look dangerous, one of the elements was up in the air and it looked like it wouldnt be safe to use. It also needs more than 1 single power point in the kitchen, as you cant have the toaster and jug plugged in at same time. Run down vehicles and shopping carts were not good welcoming mat. We couldn't wait to get out of there.

Dont judge a book by its cover.

We had a very peaceful stay and our opinions of the exterior were quickly humbled.
The interior had been updated, and it catered for all our absolute essentials.

The longterm neighbour's were friendly and considerate of our spaces and helpful with advice.

We had absolutely no complaints about anything.

Pros - Cheap and close to the city.
Cons - Its rough. A lot of WINZ housing tenants staying there. Noisy plumbing means you hear everything. Wasnt given WIFI password. Flies in the room, and i slept on top of sheets cos i felt i would get bitten.

We just needed a one night stay in a motel & we have stayed at Braemar Motor Inn a few years ago and were happy with it so booked in for the one night. The owner was very friendly. Our room was very clean and tidy, a comfy bed with clean sheets. No noise to keep us awake. We were very happy with our stay there and would recommend it.
The building is old but everything works fine.

Would recommend that Expedia makes clear that this is a motel for the homeless. This made us slightly nervous with patched people around. However having said this our room was clean & the facilities were good and we had a good stay without any issues like some other reviewers had. The office lady was pleasant and helpful..

Disgusting out of date & shabby, only one heat point in the kitchen for microwave, toaster & jug some lights not working, had to empty own rubbish cotainer, no heating, no extacter fan in bathroon, shower doesn't drain leaving 20mls water on tray. Too expensive for condition, couldnt recomend it to anyone. Shouldn't be allowed to operate a motel in that condition. I'm very surprised than you maket a motel in that condition.

I was too scared to stay after arriving there - I had booked in and paid without reading the reviews. The place was full of Emergency Housing and I did not feel safe there. The person who ran the place was lovely and I understand why she allows them there but I ended up sleeping on a friend's floor rather than stay.

We stayed 10 minutes in the room and went to another hotel. It was disgusting. It smelt, the front door only had a chain. The lady at reception said they locked once the door was closed. You had no way of checking once inside. It appeared to be a winz hotel which we werent told about.

The property is very tired, way overdue for upgrading. More annoying was the fact that having stated clearly on the advertising that wi-fi was available, the unit we were allocated could not get any Internet at all. We had to request to be moved to another unit once we found we couldn't get any connectivity, and even there, the receptionist said we would have to leave the front door open as the concrete walls on all the units shut out Internet connectivity.

The person at reception did not have a friendly or helpful manner at all. We had to request the wifi password. We then found we couldn’t access the internet. When I went to the office to explain the situation the same person suggested I sit outside so the reception would be better. If you use an iPad or laptop it’s really not helpful at all.

Nothing unique about property. It is a bit run down, dated and badly maintained. The condition of our bed was terrible with no extra pillows. The inside shower panel was held toegether by nails. Soap and shampoo cannisters empty. However pets were allowed and that was a positive, which we appreciated.

What makes this place work is the quality of the staff and the dedication they have to keep it clean. Visitors should expect older facilities and some of the rooms showing a lot of love and use, but for cheap motel accommodation this place is clean and friendly and the rooms have space. The motel was very central to the town. The noise from the plumbing was terrible espsecially at 5.30am when the people above us were having a shower. We could also hear the toilet flushing every time it was used.The shower control in our unit was very loose and the water was either very hot or very cold. There was mould on the shower curtain. The bathroom really needs updating. I don't think I would stay there again.

Very tired rooms. Not enough space for clothes. Bathroom door was broken. No rail in kitchen for tea towel. Felt sorry for the one lady running the whole place doing reception and laundry etc. A good spruce up and some extra staff would certainly help.

Pleasantly surprised!

When you pull in to this motel it does look a little tired & the gardens could do with some serious weeding & some actual plants would be nice - however I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the door to my room. Although the interior is rather dated the room was spacious & had everything I needed & to be honest I've never experienced a place that was as clean as this one.. & I even had a wee peep of the sea! Plenty of off street parking too. It was very reasonably priced & I shall be staying again... very close to the center of town too - 5-10 min walk ..
