The hotel is really nice and the room very spacious, the beds mattress is really really hard which makes it very uncomfortable, breakfast was good but could have more options, the area around the hotel for 3 blocks is very very dirty and with lots of homeless people not nice at all to walk. Amazing hotel. Very beautifully laid out, attention to detail is exceptionnal in the design. Staff is professional, helpful and polite. Pools and spas feel nice, lots of spots outside the room to just rest and enjoy. Plants everywhere make for a great natural ambiance. The walk from the most busy area can feel a bit sketchy at night but we did it (2 women) without any problem. If you were uncomfortable, it's a quick and cheap cab ride. Apart from that, it's a good five stars from me!

I love the facilities. I was not so crazy about the surrounding area. You have to walk about 10 min to get to the plaza and the area that is more active. This city has a great deal of vacant commercial properties and folks hanging out. During the evening I suggest you take a cab to enhance your safety.

A fantastic 3 night stay here, October 24.

A beautifully renovated hotel.

Check-in was great. Fast and easy. The staff speak Spanish and English.

We had a suite which was spacious for a family of 4. The main bedroom is separated from the area where the kids slept. Comfy beds, balcony over the pool, and a huge bathroom. TV in both rooms kept the kids happy!

The pools are lovely with 3 options of pool!

The bar and restaurantares great. Service is impeccable, and the food and drink were lovely.

Included in the price was a free breakfast, which was very good.

And there's very good free Wi-Fi.
The locationn is great and very central. 5 minute walk to the seafront and beach. Be careful at night at the area can be a bit sketchy.

Overall, it was a fantastic stay, and I'd come back here for sure.

Beautiful inside the hotel. However, if you’re traveling alone the couple of blocks from the square to the hotel are very sketchy at night and it didn’t feel safe walking alone. The dehumidifier in my room also became full at 4:45 in the morning and beeped incessantly until I turned it off, making for a terrible night sleep.

We were approached in a slightly threatening manner by individuals in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, who then began fighting amongst themselves. The staff were amazing and super accommodating. Food was fantastic! Rooms were quiet and comfortable. The facilities were great, with just a few minor issues: 1) our bathroom door didn't close completely -- not a deal breaker for us, but for some it may be. 2) our room was missing a smoke detector. 3) the water from the taps isn't drinkable .There is always water (and coffee!) available in the lobby, so not a major issue, but something that needs to be planned for overnight.

Easy walking distance to the Malecon and other places to visit in the city center The neighborhood is relatively safe but can be a littly sketchy at night. This is a gorgeous little hotel. The staff were very welcoming and helped me with my bags to my room (there is no lift so be aware of that but many rooms only 1-2 floors up). The room was spacious and quiet. The hotel is a block or two away from the main streets which means it’s is away from the traffic noise which was ideal. It is easy to walk to the water front and the main streets for restaurants and bars. The hotel has strict covid regulations which made me feel safe. Breakfast was included and was really nice.
There are a few small pools in the centre of the hotel and one roof top one too. There are also sun beds on the roof if you like to sunbathe.

Lovely hotel. Santa Marta is getting more dangerous with the migrant situation from Venzuela. This property is on the edge of the \"tourist\" zone. They told us not to go out after 7 pm. Just around the corner, you are in the tourist/market area. I had to get the car from the garage a block away at 5 am to drive back to Cartagena and the hotel worker ran after me to protect me. The hotel is worth staying at. Beautiful. clean, great value.

My son and i went to Santa Marta to celebrate my 60th birthday, Casa Carolina located in a very dangerous area, even it's 5 min walking to the club district but after 6pm it's full of robbers, prostitution, gangs and drug dealers, you must take a taxi after 6pm in and out of the hotel, showers was leaking toward the toilet area, very noisy in the early morning because of maintenance, restaurant is ok, receptionist all ok except Stephanie (the Manager), she didn't say the truth and lied that i'm fighting with my son while we were joking, trust me i'm saying the truth and i hate to leave a negative feedback but i'm helping others to be aware, btw, in the club district some organized criminal group inserted (anesthesia) drugs in our drinks without us realizing and we went unconscious for hours, they robbed us of our iphones, apple iwatch, and sneakers, i did file a complaint with the prosecutor's office, stay away from Santa Marta in General!

The hotel was very nice, food was good and the service very helpful and accommodating. Everything was clean. Would definitely recommend a massage. Beds were quite firm. No elevator. The first two nights we would have described it as a quiet hotel, which it is. The third night the party noise from around the area could be heard clearly which made it a little hard to get to sleep. The front desk thankfully warned us not to walk in the direction of the port/beach at night which was good advice as when we did go that way in the morning, you could smell urine in the street. Other than that, the location is very convenient to shops, street vendors, restaurants and a beach.

No HOT water , I called front desk they said lie to saying it’s normally working they will fix it. First time this has happened they said .We will fix it tomorrow. When your looking at 4 star hotel, hot or even warm water should be very least they can provide.

Casa Carolina describes itself as a safe boutique hotel in the colonial Santa Marta. Far from the truth. The hotel is in a street that is dangerous to walk even as early as 6:30pm. We were assaulted with a knife for our money. After we informed the hotel personnel , we were told of another couple guest at the hotel that were also assaulted the night before. When the police arrived they told us how that street was not safe because drug dealings. Please share this with posible future clients for this property. We have used Expedia as a secure site to go for information and reservations . Never disappointed, don’t let us down now .

While the staff did everything they could to make our stay pleasant nobody told us that the hotel was a building site. According to the hotel they were undergoing “preventative maintanance”. However having about 12 to 15 workmen painting, plastering, re-varnishing floors etc, having areas of the hotel closed off and having to ask workmen to move ladders to get to our room was not what we expected. Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in the old part of town but check first that the builders have moved out. Stayed 8th to 10th nov 2019

Our experience started with the hotel setting up our transport at the airport by a very welcoming couple. They provided some history of the city on our way to the hotel. We felt at ease with them. The front desk staff was exceptional providing detailed tourist information for our budget and short stay in Santa Marta. The hotel was well maintained and we felt safe. Location of the hotel is in walking distance to the beach where locals go and a short taxi ride to catch the boats to other beaches. And the pool is divine to relax after a day of sightseeing. We were 4 and we loved our room. The bathroom had this beautiful wall with plants, had a stove and small fridge.

1 of 3 part Review: Upon arriving on Monday night at around 10:30pm, I was not impressed with the entrance. The 1st thing I saw was a huge roach which led me to feel then area the hotel is in, is not clean. The hotel lobby was dark and gloomy but our greeter Carlos was bright and cheerful. He quickly checked us in and carried our luggage up 3 flights into our room. To save energy they keep the ACs off and the room felt muggy. Before the lights were lit, we noticed the stains on the couches. There were stains on the bedsheets and the pillow covers were torn. There was paint coming off the walls and the room was poorly proportioned. We called Carlos and advise him of our concerns, he showed us several rooms, 4 additional rooms, all felt muggy, all with stained couches and all with stained sheets. We decided to stay in a room but asked for new clean sheets. As we were changing the bedsheets, on our own, a tiny roach crawled out and we immediately left this room. We ended up staying in a room in the 1st floor which felt that it was cleaned more recently. We still changed the sheets, because by this point we didn’t trust the sheets the bed had. Carlos, the only employee in the premise at that time, was very helpful. He was able to juggle our inconveniences and also attend other guests with their requests. Due to this experience we couldn’t rest well throughout our 3 night stay because we felt that a bug might crawl into our bed at any moment of the night.

I love everything about Hotel Boutique Casa Carolina!
It's too bad that I had to transfer from Casa to the Hotel Estelar where the conference was taking place.
First, I loved my room on the 3rd floor and its amenities. I loved the location and its exquisite decor. The breakfast was delicious, excellent cappucino and Santa Marta dishes.
Most of all, the personnel was courteous, attentive and efficient.
I intend to return to Santa Marta for a longer visit and wouldn't consider staying at any other hotel.
Hotel Boutique Casa Carolina is a jewel!

One of the favourite hotels I've ever stayed at! The common areas are great, the staff very friendly, the restaurant serves good food, room is spacious and clean. I felt so comfortable and at home as a solo traveller. The location isn't as sketchy as it has been described in some reviews. I will definitely be recommending this property to friends and family.

I will book again next time I'm in Santa Marta.

The service was outstanding. The staff really went out of the way to help us, even after we had checked out!

Also, the rooms quite large and unique.
