The Spa was shut when we attended, the hot tub was broken and the hotel was slightly worn down in places.
A very beautiful hotel from the outside, but the paint was damanged inside, the room was dark and empty and it felt more like a normal hotel than a spa.
It is very child friendly, to a fault, as there are kids constantly running around doing treasure hunts and playing in the corridors. The food was subpar and fairly pub food like.
This would be a fine place to stay for a family having fun for a few days, its not a couples retreat.

I stayed for 4 nights for work. I booked a small room as I only get a small work allowance. I was upgraded to a larger room on arrival, which I appreciated! The room was very clean, tidy and I had a lovely view. The bed was very comfortable and I slept well. All members of staff I spoke to were very friendly.

The receptionist offered to make up a continental breakfast for me to takeaway, as I had to leave relatively soon after breakfast started for work. This was a lovely gesture and there was plenty of items included!

I had time for breakfast on my last day and it was absolutely delicious. I wish I could have had that every morning, but work unfortunately comes first. A very good selection of hot and cold food to choose from.

The gym had an excellent range of equipment. The gym, pool area and changing facilities were very clean. The pool was very warm. I only used the sauna, even though there is a jacuzzi and steam room, and it was excellent.

The parking area in front of the hotel was a little congested at times, but there is a small car park to the right hand side of the building (if looking at the building).

A small room for improvement, would be to signpost the lift to the left side of the entrance. Unless I have missed it. No problem for me, just for anyone with mobility issues, even though the main staircase was amazing. Or perhaps advise location on a email, if not already done.

I would definitely recommend, it was great value for money and I would stay again.

The lady at reception was wonderfully accommodating and friendly. Unfortunately I don’t recall her name but she had a Polish accent.

The “feature” rooms are higher priced fit the view, but unless you intend on spending a lot of time in the room I’d recommend taking one of the other more spacious rooms.

The pool area is a nice place to relax, but the bar area beside where the snacks are laid out was a disappointment as it closed at 5pm which is exactly when you want a cocktail! I was also disappointed that the small snacks weren’t complimentary….for a hotel of this standard it seemed rather tacky.

The hotel overall is in need of some redecoration, but it is in a great location just a 10 minute walk from Peebles High street.

Re breakfast - definately lacking….the cold cut/cheese area was very unappetizing. Only one clicked cheese that looked very tired and the other cheeses were all single serves wrapped in plastic - yeuk. The yogurts we’re also disappointing - the only ones on offer had artificial sweeteners…..Given our disappointment with the breakfasts we didn’t eat dinner in the hotel.

The hotel grounds are lovely even in winter.

I’m a business traveler. Rooms were ok for the price, we ate in the bar, rather than the restaurant. We had to order at the bar, collect drinks at the bar, the waiter service mostly hadn’t got a clue what table they were delivering too and often they were offering main courses to tables who already had main courses already being eaten?
The big issue for us, was that they put a service charge of 10% on the bill. If you have to go to the bar, to order? And they have no idea where they are taking the food to? What exactly is the service?
McDonald’s don’t have service charge? To be perfectly honest the food isn’t much better and I prefer to avoid those as well

Excellent Break – Just a Couple of Suggestions

We had an excellent two-day stay at Peebles Hydro. Everything from the staff to the setting was first-class, and a lovely touch from the manager to give me a birthday card and chocolates – much appreciated.

Only two small suggestions: it would be handy to have a bar on the ground floor, and as we’re getting older, a handrail in the shower would make things easier. Other than that, a wonderful visit and we’ll happily return.

Unbelievably hot, the room was unbearable would have been helped if all the windows had not been closed prior to arrival. Fan on night 2 helped, but compared to the corridors the rooms were so hot.
Hotel would benefit from some TLC, nothing seems to have changed in 2.5 years. Staff are lovely welcoming, and try but the main bar would benefit from being open during the day to save long queues at the small lounge bar, and table service would be nice when paying as much as do.

We drove to the hotel from Oxfordshire and arrived late afternoon. After settling in, bathing and getting ready for dinner, we went down to the Miller Lounge for supper. We were advised that we were 5 minutes too late (8.35pm) and the kitchen wasn't taking any more orders. This included room service. Reception did not provide any advice on where we could get some food (this information came from a random staff member). The offer of a sandwich for late arrivals would have been reasonable - and appreciated. Didn't really expect this from a 4 star hotel.

Very pleasant old style large hotel. Needs some updating, but room still comfortable enough though bath took a long time to fill. Good breakfast selection, no queues during week but on Saturday very busy - a popular wedding venue which also filled up the car parking. Lovely grounds with various activities for families and children, nice pool and leisure facilities. Dinner one evening was good but restaurant a bit bright and lacking ambience. Bar area with log fire lovely though music is not in line with the average clientele and put some people off. Some old classic piano bar stuff would be better.
Great location for walking into the town and lovely walks along the Tweed and trips to other towns. We stayed 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our time.

I was Very disappointed. We went with friends that had been there several years ago. They couldn't praise it enough. They were disappointed too, and kept apologising for the let down. Most of the staff was not customer orientated. The reception staff were great. Although the rooms were clean we had to ask for coffee and tea at reception as it wasn't topped up, and the main areas didn't feel clean. It was fairly busy and the staff could hardly keep up.
We enjoyed the stay as the surrounding area. And town was Great. This was a special occasion and the hotel let it down.
We expected a bit of luxury but didn't get it.

The staff really make this property, nothing was too much trouble for them. Our room was very comfortable. The food was great. The swimming pool was generally quiet and the steam room was a wonderful temperature. We had a fabulous couple of nights here but it was so relaxing it felt like longer. Don’t forget to check out the Gin School too.
The town of Peebles is within easy walking distance and there are lots of interesting places to visit in the surrounding area if you have a car

What you see is what you get. It’s an old building and is a bit dated even despite recent refurbishment. They have plenty of activities and we used the Pure Spa which was lovely. Overall, the hotel was pretty expensive for what we got, though will probably go again in future as I love Peebles.

Wish we could have stayed longer. Great for families. Had large room for 5. Our view was amazing. Bagpipes and drums in the evening was a bonus! Kids had plenty to do in and around the hotel. Pool area was clean. Check in staff was excellent and helpful. The gentlemen seemingly in charge of dining was on top of everything and lovely. It was great seeing younger folk learning for the summer. Gin was great. Would recommend for a mini getaway. Scotland is amazing.

A once grand hotel in desperate need of investment and renovation. Staff have not been trained to what most people would deem acceptable standards but a) this is not their fault b) they were so pleasant, polite and charming that you just had to let things slide. Lift was broken but again, staff were more than happy to help with bags and the luggage lift. Abysmal value for money considering what you could get in same area for less but “ok” stay.

Overall a good hotel. Its worst aspect was breakfast. Whilst the variety and quantities of the staples like fruit, juices cakes etc, was very good. The actual self revive breakfasts had many failings. The plates from the dispenser were far too hot to handle comfortably, the actual foo was poorly presented, .e.g bacon slices stuck together and very difficult to separate fried eggs often quite cool unless you were in the queue at the right time, generall not a nice experience. Evening meals served at the table were excellent.

We enjoyed a nights stay after a busy day at the highland show, the pool, sauna and hot tub were an excellent way to relax after a busy day. An excellent well run hotel with attentive and helpful staff, breakfast was a well stocked and tasty buffet. Room was comfortable and tidy, perfect for a family stay. The only thing about the room was there was a lot of dog hairs in our family room, which induced my daughters allergies and also No Hooks for coats dressing gowns or towels in the bedroom or bathroom.
Lots to do for familys and would totally recommend a stay with children. The staff were very attentive and helpfull and all in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Had a discount on the room and I think I’d have been disappointed if I’d paid full price but a lot of services I didn’t use because I was just there to sleep and continue my onward journey the next day. An “old school” hotel concept kept relevant and welcoming. Quiet bedrooms with excellent blackout curtains! Very relaxed atmosphere and lovely staff. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Great surroundings in Peeblesshire.

Only surprise was coin-operated lights for the billiard tables. Reminded me of our old squash club 😆

This 20s rebuild of a Victorian hydro therapy hotel has truly stunning views. All rooms seemed ‘front’ facing to capitalise on those views. Honestly wonderful.

Our room was bright, painted a fresh and modern sage green and, once again, with glorious views. Bed was on the stiffer side which is my preference for comfort and shower and bath warm and strong. Pretty standard for these older hotels as part of a smaller chain.

Gym was very quiet on a Saturday evening but with plenty there and truly astonishing aircon for a hotel gym! Accessed through the pool so it was trainers off to get there. Pool seemed very kid friendly and a good size.

Definitely an ‘end of maintenance/decoration’ cycle feel to much of the hotel (especially some damp peeling ceilings) but the social areas are charming enough and the main dining room was a lovely space clearly kept fresh for weddings.

Hotel was spotlessly clean with great staff - and plenty of them! Post Brexit many hotels seemed to be suffering staff crises, not here.

LOTS to do in the nearby area, even if it’s just coffee or cake in Peebles itself.

The cocktails were (ahem) made with gusto and plenty of booze, though definitely not to traditional recipes! The ‘cocktail bar’ was more of a feel of a pub snug than a ‘modern’ cocktail bar (if that’s what you are expecting) but it’s welcoming with an open fire.

Lovely hotel but with a slightly dated feel that may take the shine off if you’re expecting ‘luxury’

I spent a lovely relaxing night at the peebles hydro. I was in a single room which was a perfect size. Had a lovely view from my window too. Especially enjoyed the swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam room.
I felt there wasn't a lot of gluten free options on the menu though. The helpful staff member offered to tweak the dishes by removing food containing gluten but it's not the same if there's no actual alternative. I didn't really enjoy the salad but the mock tail and starter was lovely.

We enjoyed the hotel social areas and the dog friendly atmosphere. We liked the pool but it is small for the size of hotel. Our room was fine but it was disappointing to have a large stain on the carpet, a huge chip on the sink and badly damaged bath end panel. Breakfast was great! I would bring grandchildren here though as it would be good for them + dogs.

Stay was alright. Found the service in the Grill Room to be lacking - they either forgot about you or were rushing you. Several times my son was mid bite when they asked us if we were finished. The blade of beef dish that I had been looking forward to wasn't great. The beef was too dry, there was no spring onion in the spring onion mash and the seasonal veg was underdone, which was disappointing. One server was overly familiar with my 6yo son and actually kissed him on the head which was uncomfortable, it happened so fast and I was so shocked that I didn't get a chance to speak to her about it so I would just be wary of that. I'm sure she meant no harm but it wasn't appropriate. The Millar Lounge food was good so I would recommend eating there during your stay. The Mini Landrover experience was good as well.

I have stayed in the other hotel in Peebles owned by the same company and paid extra to try the hydro. So I am rating this against that and the extra cost. It was very busy on arrival with parking near to the hotel at a premium. But we were checked in (check is staff very polite and professional). The room we had was at the back of the hotel in trees with only one window was small and dark. However functional and clean. All the staff were very polite, but like other hotels at the busy times there weren't enough. An example was ordering a drink at the not the cocktail lounge only one young lad making cocktails in a busy bar. He told us politely he wouldn't be able to serve us for 15 minutes. Where was the manager helping him out or organising staff?
All in all if you want a hotel and intend to use the spa and multitude of activities this slightly tired hotel is worth every penny. But if like me spas are not your thing and walking and cycling outdoors is, it wasn't worth the extra money compared with the excellent sister hotel in town.

Pleasant stay

We had a standard double room which was spacious with a large bathroom. Everything was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast provided a wide choice of food and was well presented. Staff were friendly and helpful.

The staff is amazing! So helpful and knowledgeable. Friendly. Bartender was excellent!
Hosts in The Grill are on top of everything. Wait staff was very young and very into their jobs. Excellent! Loved how the pool maintenance was checking the water constantly.
Front desk people are the best I have ever encountered.
We had a corner room, bright and sunny with a spectacular view.
I couldn’t recommend this hotel more! Go there!!!

Anniversary weekend fantastic location and plenty to in the hotel and surrounding area. Breakfast 10 out of 10, drinks amd meals not expensive. And when checking out we where give a lovely gift.
We will return.

One night stay. Enjoyed pool and spa facilities. Pleasant food and atmosphere in the bar. Very disappointing breakfast - cold meat and cheese buffet consisted of salami and vacuum packed red leicester cheese, basic supermarket sliced bread and no option of freshly prepared hot food. Don't understand why shower/bath gel is not provided. Comfortable seating in the conservatory would be welcome. I would like to see a return to more formal dining in the restaurant. I understand you are now catering for a different audience (families) however I do think you could have achieved this without sacrificing the atmosphere of the dining experience. Average value for money.

Hotel was very cold, including room, bar and restaurant.. I’m not a cold person and am usually quite comfortable in shorts and t even when my wife is all wrapped up so for me to feel it chilly it was cold..

Lovely staff - would stay again

2 night stay with other adult family members. The hotel staff (at all levels) were lovely and worthy of mention from contact with them pre stay and during. Nothing was too much trouble.
The hotel itself is dated in parts but it is a big old building that will no doubt take a lot to maintain.
