The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were highly professional. The reception team, especially Rashav and his female colleague, were extremely attentive and helped make our stay very pleasant.

Breakfast had limited options but was ok, while dinner was absolutely brilliant! compliments to the chef! The pool and sauna facilities were also very relaxing.

The hotel building itself is around 500 years old, yet remarkably well maintained. Its rich history was one of the main reasons we chose to stay here. The location is beautiful too, situated next to the Polish Map of Scotland and a lovely yew tree walk with an altar at the end.

In checking, we were given a room which unfortunately was above the pool and you could hear a loud buzzing from fans and water jets. Contacted reception and we were given a quieter room straight away. No problem at all. The rooms themselves were looking tired and in need of refurbishments. We went for a swim in the evening and the lady’s changing room had a strong smell of urine which put me off. An okay stay overall. Good value for money.

Great hotel with lovely room. Bathroom was down a narrow corridor’ within the room which had a super squeaky floor, so woken several times during the night by my husband going to the toilet. Only one hand towel and no slip mat for the shower which was disappointing. Dinner was lovely and well down for a separate vegan menu.

Beautiful place - courteous staff!

This was a beautiful hotel! It is a historic building so it has it’s quirks but it was neat to stay here! The staff was friendly and this one included the free breakfast. The only thing I would caution is the room was a long way through a maze of stairs and corridors so if you brought múltiple suitcases and have a car then plan ahead and only take what you will need and be wearing the next day in your smaller case otherwise this place was fantastic! I think they may have offered to help with the bags - if you have all your bags, take them up on that! This one is also the only one we stayed at on our two week trip where parking wasn’t a challenge - they have a large lot!

A night in Peebles at the Barony Castle Hotel

Just a lovely place. Facility was beyond my expectations and we loved the quirky half a rugby field sized topographical map of Britain celebrating the Polish army presence during WW2. The setting was beautiful; convenient base for local exploring. Staff was very friendly and attentive. It was very clean and the four of us felt very comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and found excellent value.

Really lovely staff, particularly the waiters: waitresses in the restaurant. Very tasty food, nice breakfast.
Hotel itself is quite run down.
The room was very dusty- mould in the bathroom around baths etc. had a fan which blew dust all over the room and unfortunately the bed was uncomfortable- springs poking me in the back.
Pool and sauna was nice - but again. Everything worn/ old.
I’d go here for a meal- but I personally wouldn’t stay here again.

Little things would make a difference . I chose pay later , the full amount was taken with in days not months as exprected. 1 hand towel ! 2 people 3 days !! When requested it was supplied , shouldn’t have had to ask. 3 coffee sachets per day , 2 people ? Beautiful property Scottish castle style , above average accommodations, breakfast buffet. Great. Dinner menu. Burgers !!! Very disappointing . American tourists catered for . We therefore didn’t stay for dinner. 3 nights elsewhere . Poolfacility very good, disappointed at no costume rumbellor to part dry our costumes. Staff lovely.

Not much to say, very disappointed

Room was old, dirty and matesses probably 20 years old. Didn't sleep all night, worst stay I've had in 15 years. Staff was very friendly and welcoming, breakfast was good.. but was spoiled by the night before in that terrible room.

My two complaints were the bed is a very stiff uncomfortable matress and (yes im American) the room was very warm. The window opened but it was still too warm for me to sleep even with the tiny fan provided. Not worth the $$

Staying there was a pretty good experience in general. Staff was pretty good as was the food and the bar. The grounds had some trails to walk and and interesting relief map of Scotland.

My only concern was with how my African brother in law was treated as compared to myself. When he asked for certain things from the staff he was told, this couldn't be done and that couldn't be done yet when i asked it wasn't a problem. They were eager to get it done.

I'm not making accusations rather wondering outloud....

Friendly staff, great breakfast, beautiful grounds, comfortable bed, personal preference- I didn’t like the pillows, worn carpet, creaky floors. I suppose they add to the ambiance of the historical hotel.
We were too hot during the night so propped the window open to get fresh air. Didn’t have any other way to regulate the temperature of the room

The women on reception was so friendly and helpful and interested in our stay, she's a credit to herself and to the hotel.
The staff in the dining room were all friendly and efficient too.
The room we were in was a hint on the tired side, decor wise and could've been a little cleaner.
Food both at breakfast and dinner was excellent.
Pool and sauna appeared very clean, though I only made a short visit.

I absolutely love this hotel. The staff are fantastic, meals are lovely. The only things i found lacking were the bed and the bathroom. The bed and i will say its a personal opinion was so uncomfortable, the mattress was really thin and the pillows very hard. I have metal rods in my back and found it really quite painful. I ended up sleeping in the single bed which was in our room as it had a thicker mattress. My husband however was fine with it. The bathroom is quite dated, the bath chipped and the heated towel rail didnt seem to work. Saying that, it wouldn't stop us from staying here again. Id just request a room with a thicker mattress.

Staff were very nice, especially the woman seating and tending to people in the dining room. Food was nicely prepared. The grounds were lush for a nice walk around the place. Some appointments were dated, but it was clean. The mattress could use an upgrade, but was passable. My stay was only overnight and, overall, satisfactory.

Enjoyed our stay. Staff members very friendly and helpful especially receptionist who greeted us. Very good breakfast
We are happy to return to Barony Castle
Our only issue was due to the fire alarms going off and needing to evacuate the building at 1am. We now understand that this is a common occurrence which might explain the indifference of the staff dealing with the situation. It is a frightening situation for guests who are not familiar with the building or understanding of what is happening when woken by the alarms. Staff ran past all guests to deal with what was happening. Despite asking for guidance we were ignored and left to make our own decisions about leaving the building and which way to go. No explanations were offered and on return to the building it was still unclear whether it was safe. We were unable to return to sleep. Still no explanation on the following morning.
Please ask staff to ensure that they communicate effectively with guests and offer reassurance
We thought we were ‘preparing to meet our God’ as per greeting over front door!

Room was clean and recently redecorated but not to a high standard.

The evening menu was over rated, trying to make it better than it actually was.

Breakfast was ok, there was lots of variety but was cold and not of a high quality.

Great for a rest.

Lovely place. Everything we needed for our break. Pool maybe a little small. After about 4 people it seemed a bit crowded.
Breakfast good, wide selection traditional buffet.
Downside:
Evening meal.Chose the’bar menu’ in first night with the intention of the full menu in second night. Sadly one of the poorest and overpriced meals I have ever had. £17 Burger- meat almost non-existent, £8 sticky toffee pudding totally dry. We did not eat in hotel on second night.

Great place for a break but I would eat out.

This is a slightly run down 3 star property in my view. It’s nice that it has a pool. The large loud wedding didn’t work for us with young kids. Staff are nice. We stayed at 6 hotels on a tour of Scotland and were only disappointed here.

Most of staff were friendly, but service was poor. eg. bottle of wine ordered and delivered to table at start of meal was still unopened when main course was served. Special offer of cake and coffee at £3_75 before 12 noon was not on offer at eight minutes to noon because it was too late, but I could have it for £5, but it will be a bit sponge, nothing like the picture advertised all over the hotel.

The first room I had was absolutely filthy, moved to a room which must have been above the swimming pool and it was so unbearably hot. You could literally feel the heat radiating through the floor. Food is substandard and not what you would expect from a 4* hotel. Really disappointing and would not stay again.

Lovely break away, simply could not fault the hospitality team - The table-side waiting team were absolutely outstanding and all worked with haste and focus while maintaining a smile behind the masks... Great Job guys. The hotel itself was very clean and well laid out. My only minor issue was the size of rooms - a little on the small side for a larger guy like myself. Otherwise 5 stars all round... The team more than made up for a smaller room.

Very average hotel. I booked bed and breakfast. When I checked in I was informed that they could only offer breakfast at 10-15 which was too late for me as I was playing golf early. The receptionist was quite rude and advised that she could only offer a bacon sandwich at 7-45 and there was no other option. I paid £170 for a “feature bedroom” It turned out to be a small, dark, basic room which was completely overpriced. I wouldn’t stay here again

Booked delux room through hotels.com and when we showed up at the hotel to book in at 3pm we were told they had no note of booking and we had to stand aside to let everyone else book in. Hotel apologised and said they would give us a room and to make up for confusion we would get a suite but not ready yet. After sitting in the bar for 2 hours we were given the key to a room which was certainly not the suite we were promised or for that matter the delux room we had booked. As this was a special anniversary weekend away for my husband and myself we found it very embarrassing at reception finding we weren’t booked in and then extremely disappointed to just have a normal room.
